Points of interest: the Long Island Aquarium is within walking distance. We enjoyed the spinach pie as an appetizer. No additional seasoning was needed for anything! Today was our first time at Tukuaz Grill. I was here many years ago but after seeing it on News 12 East End, that sparked my interest. We ordered the humus and the babaganoush appetizers. I have no pictures but I will say we devoured them quickly! They were both tasty and excellent. We just needed to ask for more pita. For lunch we had the lamb kebab, Doner platter and the Falafel. Here's my take on the food. The portions are all very nice and came out hot. My wife enjoyed her Falafel and m my daughter in law enjoyed her Doner platter. My Kebab was 8 pieces of lamb but I thought that the seasoning was kind of bland. I was expecting that string lamb flavor like when you are biting into a nice Lamb Gyro at the diner! Again, it wasn't bad, I just didn't get that "wow" of flavor that I was expecting from the Lamb. I think the meat was missing a little char to it as well. I also tasted the meat from the Doner platter and felt the same about the seasoning. My daughter in law said it was delicious so maybe it's just me..... who knows, Covid again? I hood not LOL! The ambiance, right on the river was beautiful. While it is more of a fast food Turkish restaurant, the meat is delicious and seasoned perfectly. I would have loved a pickled veggie for more depth of flavor, instead of everything being raw. Also when I asked for Turkish hot sauce... guess what I got. Seriously guys, check the pic. WORST service I have literally EVER experienced from a restaurant staff - coming from someone who lives in New York City. My table and I were literally yelled at... after spending $200+, towards the end of our meal, we noticed that there was a powdery substance in our glass of water that had a peculiar taste to it. We noticed the taste and color of the water almost immediately - I literally spat it out not knowing what I just put into my body. I was so freaked out that we mentioned it to the woman who brought over out check - she literally tried gaslighting me into thinking there was nothing there and that it was "probably backwash." She ended up yelling at our table that she would "never want a customer like us" because of us bringing this to her attention. All I wanted was her to acknowledge that there was in fact something weird in our cup and show any amount of understanding from what seemed to be a manager. He made suggestions spicy beyti and Turkish Cigars both were fantastic , well prepared came out fast. Not fast paced, but I wasn't left wondering where my food was either. It's a tiny restaurant, very tight they have out door eating, so I imagine it's really popular in the spring and early summer months. The meal came out to $25 per person. Thoroughly impressed from start to finish. That was one of the best meals I've had in a long time (not just best Mediterranean or Turkish...but best overall). The two gentlemen who assisted me were wonderful and accommodating, the vibe inside was cozy (a solid reprieve from the chilly weather that has extended into April). Music was fantastic! Two of us shared the mixed cold appetizers and a falafel wrap w tahini. Perfect portions. Takeout isnt often known for its visual appeal but the appetizer platter was beautifully arranged and each item was better than the next. I though the doner platter had a good variety of sides (white rice, bulgar, salad, beets) and generous amounts of doner. I do think the doner was a bit oily and heavy for my liking and could have been seasoned better, but this was definitely a good find in the area, and I would return if I were in Riverhead again! read more

Chose the worst weather to locate and visit Turkuaz after dropping off friends at a wedding venue. However it was the best decision we made. Greeted warmly when stepping into the restaurant we were promptly seated and given time to review the menu ( unlike some restaurants that tend to rush you for your order. The spicy spinach soup was fantastic. Ordered the doner and vegetable and lamb shush kebab and doner and both servings were plentiful. Meats were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. First time trying Turkish beer and was not disappointed. If you're a beer drinker I'd definitely recommend the Efes pilsener. Although the dining area is small but cozy ( approximately 10-12 tables) there is outside dining available weather permitting. The restaurant did a great take out business while we were there just another testament to the delicious food this establishment has to offer. I punched in "ethnic eats" in my trusty Yelp search bar while having a relaxing weekend in the Hamptons and Turkuaz was the first up on the list. Being a lover of Turkish cuisine, we set out for a great meal and we were definitely not disappointed too. Started with their cold appetizer sampler: a medley of all of their dips plus a lentils and a bulgar salad, deliciously prepared and spiced more for the American palette but still delicious. Had a combo platter of lamb kebab and lamb chops: both were simply seasoned and grilled to tender perfection. The spicy beyti kebab had a nice spicy kick to it and was really juicy and flavorful. Of course had to end the night with their insanely delicious house made baklava and Turkish coffee. They've been here since 2010 and doesn't look like they will closing any time soon. We used to be regulars when we had membership to the aquarium. It's been 10 years since our last visit. The food is still great. There are more tables now, but still cozy. This is place I started to eat kebabs again. The meats were tender and flavorful. My favorite is the babaganouch. The eggplant is really there and chunky. It was definitely made in house.
