I've always loved going to any of the Elbow Room locations. The marinated steak is second to none, and their baked clams are my absolute favorite! Some folks aren't huge on the consistency, but I personally love that they are like a purée. I was however slightly disappointed with our last meal. I got my usual, surf & turf with the marinated filet. Now fair warning, your marinated steak will LOOK burnt...it's not. It's just the beautiful color the marinade gives. Only the service keeps this place from being a five star rating. The filet mignon was absolutely phenomenal!! As were the clams casino. If you love a good fillet mignon as much as I do you can deal with the service. We were seated right away...no water...nothing actually, until we got up and walked over to the servers who were standing together and asked for service. Definitely need to specify with your drinks as well. I asked for a gin and tonic. The server walked away without asking what kind of gin and I got less than Beefeater. So this is a nice restaurant located in downtown Riverhead that accepts credit cards as payment. They offer a full bar and what appears to be two dining area's, with ample seating for small to midsize groups. They even have tables and chairs on the exterior, for outdoor dining. They have an ATM, multiple TV's, separate restrooms for men and women, and they play Quick Draw. About 8 beers on tap and a fairly large and diverse menu to prick from. We just had dinner here tonight and let me tell you this place is fantastic. I don't understand why it isn't 5 starts on everyone's reviews but maybe they don't know good food when it hits them in the face! We got a bunch of apps that included fried pickles, wings and oysters and they were all excellent. The oysters were bangin and so fresh! For dinner I had to get the marinated porterhouse and I was so damn good! The staff was super friendly and inviting. If you want good food this is the place you need to go to. Dinner for two on a Friday around 530. Seated immediately. In the room across from the bar tables are sort of close together. Like the mother ship, Elbow Room. Hostess handed us the menu, took our drink order and returned within a couple minutes Waitress came a couple minutes later and we ordered our appetizers. Bowl of lobster bisque and raw clams. Both were very good. Claims were sand free and chilled. Waitress took our entree orders. Marinated porter house with house salad and baked potato, cheeseburger with fries Steak was prepared exactly as I requested. Hamburger was as well. Overall a good experience. Waitress was pleasant, she got everything right and promptly served. There must be a very relaxed dress code, if any. Saw a guy at a table wearing a tank top. In March, really???? Never again. Was there the other night. Service was horrible. Asked twice within one minute if we were ready to order. We told both we need another couple of minutes. No one comes back for nearly 15 minutes. When the food came, it basically dumped on the table, here, eat it. In between serving our salads a salad wad taken to a second table before the waitress dropped the second salad on our table. When the main course was served it was wrong. My experience today with cliff's rendezvous . Was calling them up to place a to go order - only for the waitress to forget I was on the phone waiting - 20 mins they hung up the phone ! We used to come to this place a LOT PRIOR TO COVID - Today , the baked clams were some where in a dark grey gooey weird consistency, gross! The two porterhouse steaks marinated were tough, sinewy, and not fully marinated - they had no flavor - they were horrible - over $100.00 dollars for this? You need a new waitstaff- you need a new bartender - you need a new meat buyer ! That was the most disgusting meal I've had EVER ! I won't be back - if steak is your feature? It should be the best! We checked into the restaurant and waited for 5 mins to be seated. While everyone else was seated immediately. There were many open tables but we had to wait for the one in the corner to be cleaned. Fifteen mins later our waitress showed up, with no smile and no personality took our orders. Our appetizer and beverage came 25 mins later and main course 1 hr &15 mins later. Duck was a bit on the rank side( we are duck people and this was above rank) clam chowder had more sand than usual chowders. Of the entire 2hrs our waitress came 4 times of which 2 of the four times we asked for her. For the record: we noticed that it was only us who received this treatment. I have to go five stars on this one. Walking in the place didn't look like anything special, but I was brought by people I trust. We were a party of four. Two of us split a bottle of wine and the other two went with margaritas. Nothing about this place, including the menu, looks Mexican, but I'm told by the people I watched drink them that the margaritas are on point. Everyone else went with the steak but I went with duck. It was cooked in a red wine reduction and was exactly what I look for in a duck. Deliciousness. Don't judge a book by its cover. Wow! What a juicy burger! I had to find out why so I asked the waitress. She explained that they soak it in there own marinate, it compliments the meat perfectly!! You don't need ketchup or mayo on the burger. All you need is lettuce, tomatoes, and my favorite CHEESE!!! It's great. The atmosphere in the building is the kind of place you take a date. You can talk and really get to know someone without loud music. I recommend taking a first date to the joint, you will score big points. My wife and had dinner at Cliff's Rendezvous in Riverhead on July 12th. We are compelled to alert prospective diners to one of the most disappointing dining experiences we have ever had. We each ordered the restaurant's signature porterhouse steak; one marinated and the other without the marinade. The steaks arrived in two wildly different shapes, one thick with a good filet and the other extremely thin and with a tiny filet. The steaks were inedible, riddled with fat and white impenetrable veins of sinew - two grisly, flavorless and shockingly cheap cuts of meat at premium prices. The steaks were of lesser quality than you would expect to find in a supermarket. We attempted to eat these atrocious steaks, but after a few bites and a pile of inedible gristle on our plates, gave up and took these uneaten steaks home for our neighbor's dog. Compounding the disappointing quality'of the food, the service was a combination of indifferent and clueless. Our server was oblivious to the dramatically different cuts of meat place on our plates, and, after it was clear that there was a problem with our dinners, just stared at the uneaten steaks on our plates, smirked and walked away. Perhaps the sorry, wilted iceberg lettuce in the house salad should have alerted us to the mediocrity of this restaurant (or the centerpiece of lottery tickets for sale bizarrely placed on each table should have raised a red flag), but we held out hope that the steaks would be of reasonable quality. We were wrong. It is difficult to understand how a restaurant which specializes in steak can serve such a mediocre product and do so at premium prices. The dining public is warned. read more

For me, Cliff's is just okay. Maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of steak and always order pasta or a sandwich. I've never had a bad experience, but I've never had a particularly great one, either. I like that Cliff's is casual and feels very North Fork, because it's such an institution out here, and I'll definitely be back, but it's just not my favorite. Went here after a friend who grew up nearby recommended their steak. Tourists be warned, this is a townie restaurant all the way! When you see the exterior you'll understand what I mean, and the interior hasn't been updated since the late 70s or early 80s. But plenty of places that look like this end up having great food, entertaining servers and great people-watching. Well, two out of three ain't bad? Unfortunately, while mingling with the locals (all in their late 40s and up) had a certain charm and the waitress was exceedingly friendly, the food was a disappointment, New England clam chowder was good, although nothing special. The house salad that came with my filet mignon entree was huge, but loaded down with too much cabbage and red onion for my taste. Then came the filet. I had ordered it with their "famous" marinade, which turned out to be some kind of teriyaki glaze. I'm sure it would have been good, if not for the fact that they burned the s--- out of the glaze, making it crusty and charred. If you're thinking that sounds delicious, think again. We're talking scorched earth on the outside of a filet. The inside was only slightly overcooked, but either way , it was hard to notice the flavor because it was so charred and over salted. If you're going to charge $32 for a steak, you can't do that. I mean, that's something that I wouldn't serve my friends if I had them over for dinner. It was very disappointing. If you do go, try it without the marinade. At least you'll have a shot at tasting the meat. read more

There is no better marinated steak! Period! That goes for all Cliff's elbow rooms too! I don't think a lot of people realize Rendevous is part of the elbow room "group"? I always get the porterhouse! Don't waste your time on this over priced dump. First of all, if you're gonna charge $35 for a steak, and it takes you two times and you still don't get it to the correct temperature, you're in the wrong business. We also ordered the duck special of the night that the waitress conviced me to get it because it's not on the menu all that often and it's crispy and delicious. To be quite frank, the duck sucked and there was nothing "special" about it. She obviously doensn't know what the word crispy means. My guess is that when Perabell opens in March in Riverhead Cliff's is going to run out of elbow room. read more
