Why is this place so hyped up???? Some of the worst bbq I ever had in my life. Ribs were rubbery, dry, and super un flavorful, pulled spicy chicken just tasted like straight hot sauce. The pulled pork was just a mess, no flavor and wet(not juicy I mean wet). Beans were undercooked and really missed the spot, the brisket was grey genuinely the worst brisket I ever had. Cornbread reminded me of my middle school cafeteria, and not in a good way. This place is awesome! We are driving by after a retirement party for my mother in law and I had to come try to place out! My wife always raves about this bbq spot and I'm bbq fanatic so it just made sense. Came here and got some smoked wings, brisket, and a pull pork sandwich with some baked beans and French fries! Ohm the food was hitting and amazing. We drove it back from River head to deer park and it was still hitting. That pull pork was juicy and very flavorful and the brisket was also very good. Meat was tender and not tough and just packing Lots of flavor. Baked beans were decent and no complaints but those smoked wings were out of this world. Great stop for all carnivores to make before or after your stop in Riverhead proper. When you get back to your car, take a deep breath, exhale and say "damn, that was good eating." Check the menu and order at the counter. The food really speaks for itself, this is only a hidden gem because I do not live nearby. Everything came out in decent time, the meats were juicy. They have a huge menu of food its very overwhelming but do not worry anything you pick will be good and worth it so work your way through that menu I realized that the inside tables were already full so we chose to sit outside, also a fun pla e to sit tables with umbrellas. Everything from BBQ to sides I tried was average (or below) and was lacking in some ways. Not one single item made me say, "I am definitely coming back for this delicious bite." Smoked New England Clam Chowder (7/10) - One of the best things we ate. Smoky and creamy, but too overly salty for us to have much. Smoked Chicken Wings (3/10) - The crispy skin was a nice, along with the hint of smokiness. However, half our order had super dry meat, while the others were okay, but none were juicy. Fatty Beef Brisket (5/10) - Definitely not as tender or juicy as the good stuff I always get in Texas. It was also quite bland and needed way more seasoning. Maple Tree Pastrami (7/10) - This was a solid cut of meat, though I didn't taste much smoke. Wouldn't mind try the Reuben next time. Smoked Turkey Breast (5/10) - Another item I wish they just tweak a little bit. Could be more tender, but they certainly need to tone down the salt level. Coleslaw (3/10) - Watery mess that reminds me of the stuff from KFC. Skip this item. Herb Crushed Potatoes (7/10) - Best side I tasted. Lightly seasoned with herbs. Pretty good. I recently visited Maple Tree BBQ Smokehouse in Riverhead, NY, and it was an absolute treat for a BBQ lover! Come here to pack in the proteins and enjoy a good meal. Food was delicious. I ordered pastrami and brisket and it was bursting with flavor. Every bite slapped. The burnt tip briskets were also very good if you like a leaner part of the meats. My favorite was the Cubano on rye. It was SO GOOD, tender and juicy! Everything had a delightful mesquite smoky flavor that was a nice touch. My only gripe is that we ordered two brownie ice cream dessert after our meals and it took forever. I'm not sure if they forgot or something but we must have waited over 30 minutes for it. This trip included a few BBQ joint staples; Ribs (note worthy), Pulled Pork (a bit on the greasy side) and Chicken Wings (smoked, then fried). Really good BBQ. Stopped in for lunch after close to 100 miles of motorcycle riding. There is parking across the street from the restaurant but it is not paved, It's gravel. Luckily there is enough space on the street directly in front for about two cars or 7-8 bikes. All good. Service was okay. The guy that brought our food out went to the wrong table, he was corrected by the guest at the table as we also advised him that the food looked like our order. He mentioned twice that we must have switched table numbers. (How, the numbers are issued by the person that takes your order). He seemed rushed, but the place wasn't busy. There were two tables occupied when we arrived. Now on to the food. My wife and I both ordered the Tarheel. Pulled pork sandwich, she had hers with sweet potato fries and I had the potato salad and we shared a portion of burnt ends with sweet bbq sauce. Two sweet teas for the drinks. I have to say, everything was really good. Not one food complaint . Decent sized portions, I feel like I got my monies worth but not stuffed to the gills with glutinous amounts of food. The food wasn't what I was expecting with all the amazing reviews. Chicken was dry although the beef was good! Sides were nothing special. There was a customer with a dog (not a service dog there was no service dog best on him/her) and they weren't questioned about the dog. I find that to be disgusting considering it's a restaurant. There are some great reviews and some mediocre reviews for this BBQ restaurant. I also know that the owner, Dennis, is very proud of his restaurant. But honestly, there are some great and some not so great things here. The restaurant is very cute and the smell hits you with a warm relaxed feeling of smoked meats. But the tables were dirty. Every single one of them required a wipe down- and I came during a quiet time when only me and one other patron were dining. But then the bathrooms were clean. The staff - super friendly and helpful. As far as the meal- We ordered: Half chicken, burnt ends, fatty brisket, smoked turkey and coleslaw. Here's the good: The burnt ends were great and the sauce it was swimming in was fantastic. The problem is that if you want more of that sauce, you have to buy more. The two sauces they provide on the table were bland- and lacking the BBQ experience you'd expect. The smoked turkey was also very good, although the rind around the turkey was stretchy and difficult to chew. The brisket was very good-fatty, tasteful and the stand out of the meal. The chicken was absolutely terrible. I mean really a major disappointment. It was dry and flavorless and the skin was waxy, tough and not edible. The coleslaw was excellent. I think the coleslaw might be better than other BBQ places we've tried. I feel like there are better BBQ options out there which is disappointing because I know that there is love in the restaurant and the owner really wants you to love the food. I think that there needs to be some attention paid to some of the critical reviews here because they aren't wrong. Quick Yelp search led us here after a very unsuccessful DMV trip. The food is incredible, service is friendly, kind and super quick. We came really early on a Friday and by the time we finished eating the crowd had arrived so I imagine it gets very busy. We had the chicken and burnt ends platter, took some slaw and pulled pork to go and bought a bottle of bbq sauce. We regretted not buying more, we live in Queens so its not a quick trip with young kids but we can't wait to go back this summer when we vacay in Hamp Bays. What a surprise to find a great bbq restaurant out east. We took our grandkids apple picking in Riverhead on a gorgeous Fall Saturday. This review is from our visit in the summer. I really wanted to like this place, as the staff was genuinely very nice and attentive. Service-wise, they definitely have a good thing going. Unfortunately, the food itself was just as underwhelming as the staff is great- across the board. The brisket tasted like it had been only boiled, with little to no seasoning coming through. As for the burnt ends, they were overwhelmingly just barbecue sauce--I'd say 95% sauce and maybe 5% actual meat flavor. And DRY! The shredded chicken suffered from the same sauced-heavy issue. Maybe because they know it's dry? When I mentioned to them about the places I've had BBQ, they looked apologetic. Solid laid back BBQ spot for sure. Prices are moderate, the selection of BBQ offerings were a nice variety and even included some combos if you just can't decide what you want to order. I came here with my brother to grab an early lunch on a weekday. We were the first ones in, but by the time we were done eating there was a considerable crowd waiting to order at the counter. Minus one star because the guy behind the counter (though incredibly nice) overcharged me for the burnt ends combo I ordered which was supposed to come with two sides included and didn't ask if I wanted the sweet or hot BBQ sauce (I would've gone with hot but he auto selected sweet). My boyfriend was craving ribs, and I was able to find this place in Riverhead for AYCE ribs for $33 only on Fridays. This place isn't your typical AAA restaurant where you get to pick and choose which ones you want. It's 3 courses plus desserts. But you could substitute certain side dishes. First course BBQ ribs [2],  wings [3]. Their pork ribs were good; they fell off the bone, and they also have homemade gluten-free BBQ sauce on the table, which is also a plus for my boyfriend.  I wasn't to pleased with the wings. But on the other hand, boyfriend wings them. ‍ Second course BBQ chicken and pulled pork sliders without the buns come with baked beans, slaw, and with the buns, mac n cheese, slaw.  Third course beef brisket and pastrami; they were delicious. Sides were mashed potatoes and baked beans.  Desserts: fudge brownie bites You could only continue to order more when you finish the first 3 courses. We only made it a course and a half, and the rest we had to pack them up.  The food is decent, especially if you're or someone other than yourself is craving Ayce BBQ in Long Island. But the parking is a bit tricky. They only have a couple of parking spaces by the restaurant, or you could park across the street from the restaurant. Crossing over is a pain, especially when there's no crosswalk.
