This is a nice spot to stop for coffee and breakfast. Their coffee drinks can lean a bit too sweet at times, but they do offer a good variety of flavors to choose from. I've tried a few of their breakfast options--the croissant egg and cheese was good and flavorful, while the potatoes on the side were just okay, nothing particularly memorable. I didn't love the French toast, though--it was a bit too dense and made with standard sandwich bread rather than something richer like challah or brioche. On top of that, it was pretty heavily drenched in syrup, which made it a bit overwhelming. read more

They had a chicken pot pie with ingredients I like in it and nothing I don't. That never happens. I also enjoyed a nice beverage here and the clients I was assisting who took my suggestion of this place based on the Yelp reviews I'd read also enjoyed this place. Definitely a funky, indie coffee shop with a great vibe, great menu and worthy of their many 5 star reviews. I don't remotely live here and would be afraid of trying to locate street parking but it's nice to know about another dining option if I find myself doing court appearance work in Riverhead again. read more

I wish I took a photo of my drinks...that's right drinks. The coffee was so good, I came back for more. You will never find me in Riverhead, however Jury Duty found me. Since I love food and coffee, naturally I researched the area and found this gem. It's a bar, a restaurant, and a coffee joint, and they do it so well. It's decorated perfectly with a nice dim-lit ambiance with tables and couches that make it comfortable. The first time I ordered, I got a hot churro latte (I forgot the name). The next day, I came back and got an iced mocha latte and a blueberry muffin. Both were delicious and excellent. Staff are also friendly and helpful. Great coffee and food! I got a salted caramel iced latte and a lunch sandwich, both of which were really good. I honestly don't remember what kind of sandwich it was exactly, but it had turkey and bacon. It also came with a side of chips that tasted homemade and were amazing. The girl that took my order was super nice and everything came out quick. I also love that they have a lot of seating inside (and some outside). They also have a bar if you wanted to get an espresso martini instead... might have to come back to try one! read more

The vibes are immaculate and service could not be sweeter but, overall my drink left me unimpressed. There is a plethora of drinks to choose from and a serviceable menu for food and pastries. I ended up keeping it simple with a croissant and a seasonal Ube, marshmallow and maple latte. The croissant was alright but the drink ended up being generically sweet, no discernible ube flavor which left me disappointed. I think maybe picking up a drink that has a simpler flavor profile might be the right move. But...if you're not here for coffee, they do also offer light bites and cocktails in a gorgeous space on Main Street. There's plenty to choose from, maybe you'll luck out! read more

I'm not trying to solely write five star reviews these days. Honestly I'm just trying to write reviews in general (life is busy). But five star write-ups tend to flow more easily because everything is just awesome, and so is the case with the words I'm spewing about Mugs on Main. Now sometimes I'm weary to construct a five star review after one visit, but on a recent week I was able to find myself in Riverhead two times for some morning coffee and both MoM trips were fantastic. Fusing the two experiences together going forward, let's start with the ambiance. Mugs on Main feels like a snazzy cocktail bar at first glance when walking in from East Main Street, though swing around to the back entrance and you get a comfy, couch-y coffee vibe. Meet in the middle and you'll understand that Mugs isn't huge in size, but has just what you want aesthetically and spatially from a coffee spot. Beyond the interior, the employees fall into that same "just-what-you-want" realm as they were friendly, helpful, and even a little generous (I asked for a sticker and the guy said "Yeah I'm not gonna charge you for it; here take two"). The attention to detail within each coffee cup that's concocted is also evident by the end results (check the portrait-pics). Most importantly, the coffee is quality. Well, I do have to say that my wife and I dabbled in the realm of exotic lattes and so it wasn't as much about the coffee flavor as it was about the sweetness, but the options here at Mugs on Main are quite elaborate. Whether it's a latte with lavender or one with chili (you heard that right) or even the butterscotch butter beer/Harry Potter themed latte, you'll definitely find something unique. On my first trip, I went down the chocolate orange route with the "Choco-latte" that had dark chocolate amaretto, chocolate whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and orange zest. Surprisingly it wasn't overly chocolatey and you could really taste that amaretto (and orange) kick. Yum. Second time I got the Salted-Caramel-o-yeah which was just as decadent and delicious. So was my wife's Over the Rainbow (rainbow cookie) latte. She got my chocolate orange one the second trip and it just rounded out plenty of wonderful coffee for us both. Overall, Mugs On Main is a marvelous storefront of coffee and then some (the food menu is extremely enticing as well so look for that in a future review). With a great setup, friendly staff, and some delectable latte options, you can't go wrong here. Hopefully you also see the ease of writing my five star sonnet whenever you visit so that you can understand the love I have for MoM. read more

I'm very torn with this review. I heard about this place via Facebook. I was in the area today and had some time to spare so I stopped in. When I walked in I was greeted, but when I mentioned I've never been before, I didn't get any response back. After a quick glance of the menu I decided on Gimmie S'more latte and BEC in a mug. So the drinks and food come out two different locations. The coffee comes out of the coffee bar area and the food from the kitchen of course. While the Gimmie S'more was tasty, it wasn't as described on the menu. The menu described it as toasted marshmallows, chocolate ribbons and graham cracker crumbles. I didn't get any of that in my latte. I got mini marshmallows, chocolate syrup and no graham crackers. The BEC was tasty too. Definitely had good flavor/seasoning. It wasn't cheesy though. At one point throughout my meal I needed napkins. My fault for not grabbing any when I retrieved my drink and food. When I approached the counter where the silverware was I didn't see any napkins. When I attempted to ask one of the workers behind the counter, she was on her phone. I had to say "excuse me" more than once to get her attention. Throughout my meal I witnessed this same employee be on her phone, even as more customers came in. Overall it wasn't a bad meal. I wouldn't come out of my way to return, but I would return if I was in the area again. Total for breakfast was about $16 read more

Owner is very nice and the atmosphere is very pleasant ~ however the coffee was absolutely awful! And for THAT PRICE!! Not sure if it was the barista or the low quality of the milk by the cappuccino looked like a regular coffee with skim milk. I asked for more froth, and was meant with a very nasty attitude that they had to create more, and it was still extremely watery. Too much money for that type of service! read more

In reply to the owner... made from scratch still doesn't justify it by any means. It took 10 minutes to make both beverages. You can buy 1 lb of high quality organic matcha for $15. That was the most expensive ingredient. It's businesses like yours that are setting this new unrealistic standard. Just be honest and ask a fair price, it's not that hard. read more

3.5/5 for me. This is solely for the service, the food was actually very good. The waitstaff while kind, was forgetful. I ordered a croissant and they never brought it as well as a water. My boyfriend paid so idk if they charged him for the water but I hope not cause it is a bit pricy. The lavender latte was lukewarm, very delicious but not hot at all. Within 10 minutes it was cold. My boyfriend enjoyed his burrito. I just found for it being so quiet and having four workers there service and ambiance was lacking. read more

Went here early in the week for lunch. The food and drinks were pricey, and so not worth it. The woman who made my drink got it all wrong. Coffee was burnt too. The flat bread was greasy. A man was yelling at someone very loudly and unprofessionally in the kitchen and we could hear him. It was uncalled for. When I asked to speak to the owner they said she was on vacation again. This was reminiscent of a coffee shop in downtown Patchogue or Port Jefferson. Quaint, with a warm cozy atmosphere. I ordered the spicy breakfast burrito which was very good. Generally I find is difficult to find a good authentic breakfast burrito on Long Island, usually you get a BEC on a wrap so I give Mugs style points for their burrito. I also ordered an Americanco au lait served in a nice wide porcelain mug. My server was educated on the menu & pointed me in the right direction. My only critique is you can't just sit down & order, it's more like deli style, order, pay then they bring it to you. Not to bad, just something I wasn't use to. read more

I am so so glad I drove over an hour to try Mugs on Main. I was greeted kindly by employees and the owner. I explained it was my first time here and the menu and options of food were explained to me. I went all out and got a churro latte, a lobster bisque soup and Mac and cheese with added bacon. Everything was outstanding, really flavorful and presented nicely. The vibe of Mugs on Main I really like. There's some bar type seating, high tops, regular tables and comfy seating in back. Something for everyone to be comfortable while enjoying their coffee and meal. I also like there's a good amount of outlets so if I needed to bring my computer I can charge it. This past Sunday, I had the privilege of meeting with an incredible woman who runs a nonprofit dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence on the East End. One of us unsung heroes, the bootstrappers who are changing lives one person at a time. We were there for a business meeting and it was my first visit. The staff was welcoming understood my order, because I had dietary restrictions they knew and the meal came to me garnished and perfect. Even when I was being served the server came with a smile and gentle hand. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and conversation. Oh did I mention they didn't push us up and out.. The food was seasoned but not too much salt which was primo. My coffee was excellent and they had honey to put in it. I like service with a smile and gentle hand as I believe we are energy and how we feel translates into the food we receive, serve and eat. Thank you MOM you get a hold from me.
