Star Confectionery - Breakfast menu - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Riverhead, New York

We love a good mom and pop, and Star Confectionery is just that! Star Confectionery is a charming, family-owned breakfast spot with over 100 years of history--and it's easy to see why it's stood the test of time. The French toast and breakfast potatoes were absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. The eggs, however, were a minor disappointment. They needed to be remade, but instead of preparing a fresh batch, cheese was simply added to fix them. While they still tasted good, a new plate would have been preferred. The staff was warm, attentive, and clearly dedicated to making every guest feel welcome. The cozy, nostalgic atmosphere adds to the experience, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. I'd definitely return if I'm in the area again--it's a spot worth visiting for its history, charm, and solid breakfast offerings. A solid four stars! read more

Been wanting to stop in here since moving to the North Fork - what an awesome time capsule! Popped in for lunch on a sunny Thursday and it did not disappoint. Reuben was delish and I had it with their great potato salad. My partner enjoyed his BLT with avocado and coleslaw. The onion rings were cooked perfectly. The milkshakes were such a treat and love getting the metal cup with the extra! Friendly staff, quick service, and fun atmosphere. Great spot on Main Street and can't wait to come back for breakfast. read more

What a cute little place! We loved the cute decor and the old times vibe. The soda fountain and the grill being out front let us see all the action. The tin ceilings and the tile floors added to the charm. We needed a hearty breakfast and we got what we needed. The blueberry pancakes were huge and fluffy and full of blueberries. The French toast was good. The omelet with bacon and cheddar was well cooked. The potatoes were just ok, a little dry, but it's ok because I was full after the omelet anyways. Coffee was fresh and refilled quickly. Service was friendly. The place was rather full so we did wait a bit but it's ok because we enjoyed relaxing and hanging out. Definitely will come back again when we are int h As a reminder - this place is cash only but there is an ATM inside. read more

There is no finer chocolate shake. One size is sort of medium. Homemade ice cream. Try the chocolate. They must add syrup because it's divine. Will run you $8 plus tip. Open until 2 or so most days call ahead. Stopped in after a trip to the aquarium for a quick bite. Food was incredibly fresh and so tasty. I got the avocado BLT and honestly don't think I've ever had a more fresh and perfectly ripe tomato. Service was friendly and the place had a cool nostalgic feel to it. Very fairly priced, just be advised it's cash only (atm available) read more

Great food with a very friendly vibe. We were wondering why quit a few people taking a picture with the cook. We asked and unfortunately after over 100 years it is closing on Sunday, 8/24. read more

Star confectionery is a great local spot. The owner Anthony I believe does most of the cooking himself, talk about quality control, lol! Some say breakfast is breakfast but I disagree they do it very well here and anyone who's had a doughy bad pancake knows what I'm talking about. I'm a big fan of the little sausages and I asked for a dark toasted English muffin and got it that way. I can't tell you all the times I get a soggy half toasted mess. Any way if you want to step back in time this is your place. Enjoy in good health. read more

This place is great, our meals were delicious. Old fashioned Diner style menu, but everything is fresh and not greasy or over done. Good fries, good rings, good slaw. Service was excellent, treated like you're a regular even when it's your first time. Sweet waitresses. The owner /chef is a good man, we interacted and you can tell he's authentic and actually cares. Bring the kids. Will return! read more

Decent food, slow but friendly service. The restaurant has a nice local vibe and the menu has something for everyone. Avocado BLT, hot dog, & turkey sandwich all were good. I think the kids like the hot cocoa best though. Definitely a solid post-aquarium spot. read more

I came here while on our way to the aquarium on Tuesday morning. We found parking right across the street for free and there is a chase down the street because the place is cash only. This place takes you back in time and it is really cute how it is set up. The prices are very affordable and the food is so good. They give portions and the service is great. Everyone is so friendly and the place has a homey feeling. I ordered the short stack french toast with a side of ham and it was so good. I highly recommend I just wish they took cash but I understand that's how they keep the prices so low. read more

Delicious tuna salad, Reubens, and BLTs. The best chocolate egg cream around. A must-go in Riverhead.

Came here the first time I visited Rivehead and now I make sure I leave time to visit each time I come back! I l always order sandwiches because they have not yet disappointed! I've brought my whole family as well as friends here and every single person has LOVED it. The place is family owned and it looks probably a lot like it did when it first opened. So cute and old fashioned. Also, I love their egg creams and their chocolate shakes! Definitely worth ordering. Everything is reasonably priced and just perfectly made. It's just nice to have some simple foods perfectly made! Highly recommend to anyone in town for the day. (Hours are unpredictable so just give them a call before heading over, but honestly it's part of the charm, it's a family place!) read more

Friendly service, i loved my egg sandwich on fresh kaiser roll, cool vintage building. Cash only

I literally can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The service and kindness were top tier & the food matched! The burger was beyond delicious. The steak and eggs were superb, the bacon eggs and cheese sandwich was delicious and please don't sleep on the pancakes. The place is like an old school diner with the best old school music and the happiest people. I really hope I get to visit this town again. If for no other reason just to stop in at the most amazing diner I've ever been to. read more

Great place the food was excellent, and the service was even better we felt we are part of the locals great experience great people

This is one of those secret neighborhood gems that no one wants to get the word out. Star Confectionery is a quaint luncheonette that makes homemade ice cream, homemade lemonade, you get my vibe. Norman Rockwell would get inspiration from this luncheonette on Main St Riverhead. All this sounds great! The "Confectionery" of Star Confectionery, is why I'm here. For Years, I always swing by, too close to Easter to pick up a chocolate bunny for my wife. And every year I'm told, nope. your too late. Dang! Well, I stopped in April Fools Day to get a chocolate bunny for Easter 2019. Neighborhood people have been coming here for decades and have fond memories of Star Confectionery chocolate in their Easter Baskets. The proprietor makes these treats for because he knows it brings joy to his customers. And don't think your gonna rush in and bite off the bunny ears. The bunnies made here are SOLID milk chocolate! None of this hollow nonsense, they pour their homemade chocolate into a bunny mold made 50+ years ago. I grabbed two bunnies: One Milk Chocolate and One Dark Chocolate. The dark bunny, man.. I cut that sucka up the second we walked in the door to get chocolate wasted. Just some old school chocolate being made at Star Confectionery. If you want something different, buy a chocolate Bunny at Star Confectionery. They make a limited amount of bunnies, this is old school chocolate at its finest. A true Long Island gem. read more

Stopped by for some breakfast and "real" food before hitting the outlets! So I found this on the map and decided to give it a try since the reviews are good. It's such a cute little place and the menu is simple! What amazes me is that equally tiny "kitchen" churning out the food. There is a bit of a wait, but it's not terrible. We all got the usual diner breakfast foods -- pancakes, omelets, and french toast and they were all good. I'm picky about my jams, and they had like three to choose from! This may very well be the go-to spot whenever we're that far out in LI! read more

I could not be happier that I happened to stumble upon this place while looking for somewhere to stop for breakfast before heading out to Southold/Greenport for the day!! Such an adorable spot that makes you feel like you have just stepped back in time the second you walk in. We were immediately seating and greeted by a pleasant waitress. The menu is simple, yet perfect...I never like when a place gives you way too many options. I also liked that Star Confectionary gave short stack options for both their pancakes and french toast, because obviously, who wouldn't want to try both?! K and I ordered a short stack of pancakes, a regular order of french toast, and a bacon egg and cheese on a roll. Everything came out within a few minutes, and everything looked and smelled amazing. The best part was, was that everything was clearly HOMEMADE. The pancakes were light and fluffy, the french toast had the classic french toast taste with nice hints of cinnamon, and the bacon egg and cheese was perfection. I actually enjoyed the french toast so much I didn't even put syrup on it...liked it better without it! When we were leaving, Anthony, behind the counter, stopped to talk to us. What a classy, humble, and fantastic guy he was...had a nice convo and he then offered us some ice cream to try on the house. I was expecting to get a spoonful, but Anthony gave a whole cone!! The ice cream was amazing as well. Next time I head out this way, we will DEFINITELY be stopping here again!! read more

I absolutely love this place!! The service is amazing and they truly make sure that their customers are happy. I came in (too early for lunch) around 1055 am, heading to work and I wanted the hot open roast beef sandwich with gravy. I was going to come back but they made me what i wanted. I recommend this place to everyone, you will not be disappointed. Thank you guys!! read more

Highly recommend~great food, loved the nostalgia feel and the waitresses were charming. Definitely going back.

We tried to go two days in a row, to find them closed without explanation. Nothing posted on their website, social media, etc. Also, they are CASH ONLY, so beware. I'm really not a fan of this, but thought I would try them anyway since the reviews were good. Drove 10 minutes to an ATM to get cash, only to find Star Confectionery closed both days I was staying in Riverhead. Really disappointing. read more

Cute little luncheonette! Only open until 3pm. Cash only! So don't forget to stop before hand! My table got grill cheese on rye. It was your typical grilled cheese. They give you a choice of white, whole wheat and rye bread. Simple and tasty. They give you a small side of coleslaw with your meal and spear pickle. No other sides came with grilled cheese. I got a bacon cheeseburger, good size burger. Bun was fresh but bottom was little soggy from burger juice . Fries are thin cut, cooked just right! Deluxe came with lettuce and tomatoes. Fresh and delicious on the burger. I liked that the burger didn't come together, prevented the lettuce and tomatoes from getting soggy. Seating area is cute, Ceiling appears to be an old traditional tin ceiling. Looks like an old luncheonette from 40s. Staff was great! Friendly! Not overwhelming or annoying. You can sit at the counter or booths. They probably wouldn't be able to accommodate larger parties sitting together. Best part is of course the ice cream! Dishes didn't disappoint! Yummy toppings to choose from! Decent selection of ice cream with something for everyone. Stop in at this hidden gem! read more

First time eating here and definitely wish I was able to sit down but Covid is prohibiting that for now. Got the 'famous french toast' had a different taste to it wasn't bad but not your average tasting french toast. Did try a bite of an omelette and that was DELICIOUS!! What an incredible find. I stopped in yesterday on a hunch and got the PERFECT grilled cheese on rye with crispy bacon and tomato with a side of shoestring fries! It was so good that I had to go back again today. Today was a chef salad which was made to order and very fresh. The place has a very old feel but is incredibly clean and neat. The service is personable and friendly. I am really enjoying this luncheonette so far and since my new job is located around the corner I am hoping to be able to stop in here for lunch at least a few times a week. I love this place. The old fashioned furnishings reminds me of my favorite Brooklyn place very near my home. Ottostadt's. . So whenever I'm here I'm a teenager again. Love having breakfast. For me: Pancakes especially. Lunchtime it's their egg sandwich. Good coffee. My grandson loves it here too. They close early on Sunday unfortunately. I wish they closed at 1:00 instead of noon so I could get here after Mass. but Anthony the owner works hard. So it's understandable. This place is an institution. Riverhead proud. read more
