Mezcalita & Rosa No Morado (mocktail)
    Kristin G.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Clavel. The customer service was awesome, and the food and cocktails were really good. I especially loved the ambiance. I went on a Thursday evening, and they were swamped. The bar area was full, and there was about a 45-minute wait for a table and finding parking in the Remington area is difficult. Despite how busy it was, the service was still very quick and attentive. I highly recommend the fish tacos--some of my favorites in the city. The queso was yummy, and while the street corn could use a bit more flavor, the lime helped. I also really enjoyed the Rosa No Morado mocktail. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu!

Clavel is gorgeous and unassuming. Their cocktail menu looked like it slaps. I got a spicy marg since it was HH ($4 off) and I was happy with it. The vegan taco options (there's two) were solid, though I felt the avocado one could've used a little spice/punch (it just tasted like fried avocado and not much else). I loved how substantial their guacamole serving was for chips and guacamole. It was enough for three people. And their chips are made in house and are excellent!

Three of us stopped by on a spring evening and had a very good dinner at Clavel. We had chunky guacamole which could've used more avocado, delicious, warm, red, salsa, and amazing chips, the star of the menu. We also had delicious corn topped with cheese. We had an excellent shrimp taco, a pretty good fish taco. We also had a nice vegetarian tacos, including avocado, poblano, and a really good mushroom taco. The dessert bunuelos was very nice. Service was excellent !

My partner & I came for a Mezcal tasting session. Whoa! It was way more than I expected! Dre is so passionate about this topic. You can tell. His enthusiasm seeps through his pores. He gave us a great informational session and we learned so many things we didn't even think of. I have a whole new level of respect for Mezcal! Now I'm searching for some of the versions I tasted to add to my bar!! After the tasting session we sat for some tacos! Yay! AND, it was Tuesday, go figure! During the tasting we had a sampling of ceviche, so we both ordered aguachile! It's so fresh. Oh, let's talk about the chips and salsa! We had to bring so home. They were so fresh! You can tell they're home made with just enough salt. Can you say CRISP! and the salsa is unmatched! It's not the salsa you have in mind. It's like a fresh mix of roasted green chiles. I don't even know if it's green chile, but it was DELICIOUS! Now, back to the tacos. I ordered El Luchador, Barbacoa de Borrego, Barbacoa, and Tinga de Pollo. They're all served on corn tortillas. My partner loves tacos and we both agreed they were yummy. We'll be back.

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and WOW, the customer service is top notch! I really appreciated the level of attention and care the staff gave us and how sweet they were. I also appreciated how clean and well put together the establishment was. The tables were spotless and everything was organized. The bar looked stunning . I wasn't a huge fan of the tacos, as I felt they needed a bit more seasoning, but that was just my personal preference. I definitely plan to come back and try other menu items.

I think the food was really flavorful and yummy, but the hype I've heard about is not all that. The ambiance is quite nice, I liked the low lighting, and the overall atmosphere. However, our table was for two and it was really small, hard to fit everything on there and we didn't get much. At some point I had to ask for something to be removed because of the lack of space. Service was honestly not the best, granted I was there an hour before close. Our server came by 2 or maybe 3 times? But when I was looking for him for certain things he wasn't anywhere to be found. Wish I could have given this a 3.5.

We went to this place several times. I think the food is good The price is definitely on the very high end for tacos.

OMG -- I feel like this place is just a shell of what it used to be. I ate here years ago and raved about it to everyone I knew. I couldn't wait for the opportunity to come back. Fast forward to Halloween date night this past Friday -- and let's just say, boy, was this a real-life nightmare. We arrived around 5:10 PM and there was already a line outside. No big deal -- crowds never scare me away. In fact, they usually make me more excited to eat somewhere. The hostess quoted us about an hour wait, and since my last visit was so great, I figured it would be worth it. While waiting, a couple of seats opened up at the bar, so we grabbed them, enjoyed some drinks, and had a great time chatting. About an hour later, I checked with the hostess, who said there were about five parties ahead of us. No problem. Another 15-20 minutes go by, and when I checked again, she said, "You should be next." Perfect. But then -- out of nowhere -- another hostess chimes in and says, "You can't have a spot at the bar and be on the waitlist." If only you could've seen the shock on my face! I said, "We can close out here and go to our table right now." The bar is first come, first served -- so that policy made no sense, especially since both hostesses had watched us sitting there the whole time. Still, we were determined to make the best of it. Once seated, our server warned us the kitchen was backed up and food would take about an hour. Again, no big deal. We ordered the esquites, queso fundido, and some tacos. When the corn arrived, it was bland. My wife said, "This is missing something." It literally tasted like mayo and lime juice -- nothing else. I looked at Yelp photos from my last visit and realized it was missing the seasoning it used to have. I politely mentioned it to our server, who insisted, "No, we always serve it like this." I showed him pictures proving otherwise. They took it back and brought it out again -- but now it was so heavily seasoned it was practically inedible. When I mentioned this to the manager, she offered to fix it, but never acknowledged that the server had lied to my face. At that point, the night was a bust. The food wasn't what it used to be, the service was inconsistent, and the hospitality that once made this place special seems to be gone. I truly hope this isn't a sign of things to come for Clavel -- because I used to love this place.

One of my top Baltimore City recommendations for food. My go to's are the luchador taco, queso fundido, margarita, and tres leches cake. While they have more traditional menu items like steak, carnitas, and chicken tacos I would give a try to one of their specialty items like their lengua tacos. The wait can be a little lengthy during their peak hours so I would recommend going either right at open 5pm and you get happy hour specials min- Thursday, or going for a later dinner around 8pm. The staff is always friendly and hard working making sure you get your food the second it's ready. They have patio seating that's quite lovely when the weather is agreeable. The inside is cozy with soft lighting and depending where you are seated you might see different decorations. If you're able to I would take a look around the restaurant, they have lovely decorations, pretty string lights, greenery, and seasonal decorations depending when you visit.

It had been a while but recently came back again for dinner. We got immediate seating with the last table outside - whoo no wait for a Saturday night! We placed our drinks first. A Tuba Por Favor for me and a Maria Sabina for my friend. We ordered several things to share - Tostada de Jaiba, Aguachile Rojo, Barbacoa de Borrego, Carne de Res, Aguacate Frito, and El Luchador. My faves were the tacos of course - the Barbacoa de Borrego had great flavor and El Luchador with a perfectly fried fish. Everything we had was great. Our server was friendly as well. It's always an enjoyable place to come back to.

Clavel NEVER misses! Came here for a solo birthday treat and my tastebuds were completely overjoyed. If it wasn't for the high volume of patrons that night, everyone would have heard my "Mm mm mms" the entire time. I did do a little dance most of the meal so there's that. Everything I ordered was made to perfection. My absolute fave is the Tamal de Elote Fresco. I mean the sensory memories this dish creates are eternal! Get there on time or definitely be invested in waiting. My only wish (and likely the wish of others) is an online reservation situation. May Clavel live long & prosper!

Love the ambience here. Food is so so good. This is my second time and it hits every time. Their drinks are pretty good and strong. Their esquite is delicious and service is always fast and nice.

How hard is it to get a table for bigger parties? I know there's no reservations but do you just have to show up early for a better chance with a bigger group?

Very size dependent. They have a lot of big tables that seat ~8 relatively comfortably. More than that might be a challenge.

Planning a date night on Saturday... what time is best to arrive so we have a likely wait of less than an hour?

Between 4pm and 5:30pm. Any later and you start to risk a longer wait.

Are dogs allowed for outdoor dining?

    Yes!

I went to order Clavel take out and 99 percent of their menu reads out of stock. All salads. All tacos. All burritos. But their social media says it's up and running so I'm confused...are they still offering take out?

Hi! I ordered from them recently. The website will read out of stock until it opens at noon each day. Then you can order normally, but they do only accept a certain number of orders of each item so after a few hours fewer items are available. It's… Read more

    Is there a Taco Tuesday?

No - they do have a Happy Hour from 5-7, but no specials related to tacos.

Can you order and eat food at the bar?

Yep! The bar is open seating!

Tips for Saturday dining? Is there a list at the door? Can you leave & grab drinks and come back?

They use an iPad system, take your phone number, and text you when a table opens up. If you don't want to wait, get there as close as possible to opening. WC Harlan down the street is owned by them-great cocktails

This is Puerto Rican pitorro, also known as ron cañita, made with care and intention rather than gimmickry. Many local liquor stores now carry the brand, and it is well worth picking up a bottle, but visiting the distillery is an experience in itself. The founder is a fellow Puerto Rican born retired military member, a background I share, and like me, he has put down roots in Maryland. That story is reflected clearly in the brand's own framing, "Puerto Rican born, Maryland made." The space feels grounded and unpretentious, and that sensibility carries through to the hospitality. We arrived late on a Saturday and were still welcomed warmly, never rushed. We were taken care of by the founder's daughter, who was exceptionally kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. She guided us through a flight that included the traditional pitorro, almond, pineapple, coffee, coconut chai, and several seasonal offerings. The flavors were thoughtful and well balanced; even the infused expressions retained a clear rum backbone rather than drifting into novelty. We enjoyed them enough to leave with several bottles. This is artisanal pitorro done right, rooted in Puerto Rican tradition and confidently made in Maryland. Buying it locally is convenient, but going to the distillery is where the people, the story, and the spirit fully come together.
