Another side quest with the Bestie! We've been here a few times but last night was just phenomenal. Our energy was a lil heavy so we went straight for a prickly pear margarita and a blackberry margarita (both with a sugared rim). Baby, let me tell you, GOD was guiding the hands of the bartender last night, our drinks were so good. We pretty much stuck to apps last night (but I will tell you about food I've had here recently). We did house guac, queso fundido with gringo meat, esquites (elote off the cob) and the honey tajin wings once a couple more folk joined us. I've had street tacos here, ribeye tacos and the short rib torta - it's all absolutely delicious. Our waitress was on point (I didn't get her name) and she appreciated that we looked much happier when we left than when we arrived - she even brought out the bartender so we could give that gorgeous Amazon her props in person. I had a second drink - it was a peach sangria and it was delicious. Very light and refreshing, totally recommend. I've also been there when they have trivia night - it's crowded and tight but it's a great vibe and that's what makes Papi's Hampden an easy choice. read more

I recently placed an order for pick up from Papi's. It's been a few years since I've dined here but was nearby and wanting tacos. The order was ready in 15 minutes. I got the esquites, crunchy beef tacos, and carnitas on soft corn tortillas. Once I got home, I was really disappointed with how carelessly the tacos were packed up. The beef tacos were a huge mess. I feel like packing the toppings separately might have helped. The carnitas were lacking a lot of flavor and very dry. I remember loving the esquites but these didn't blow me away like before. The tortilla chips were the best thing about the meal. Maybe this is the kind of spot you dine-in instead of takeout? I'll also mention that the online menu states that you get 2 tacos per order but I was actually given 3 each. I probably would've just got one order had I known. read more

It's always a great experience no matter which location you dine at! The service is always quick and the food is always fresh and delicious. We like to start with the trio. It is a basket of tortilla chips with guacamole, queso, and your choice of salsa. We enjoy the ranch style salsa. It's very different and has a great kick. We each ordered our own tacos. You get to choose the style of toppings you want as well as the meat or vegetarian options. It was a little noisy as we were in right after happy hour, and I believe people have been there for a while, enjoying themselves. Welllllll...... I wanted to really like this place but I couldn't get past the feeling that it was dirty and if what I could see as a customer what the kitchen must look like. The hostess couldn't have been nicer. The waiter we had looked like he may not have taken a shower or washed his clothing in a week or more. The meal I had was ummm greasy, salty and unappealing. To humor my companion I ate a bit of each item. The best item was the chips and very garlicky salsa which comes complimentary. The pineapple salsa was pretty tasty as well. My companion had Huevos Rancheros which he said were good but he eats daddy long legs and bees so take that as you will. Not interested in ever going back. 3 stars for the hostess. read more

I played tourist this past week in Baltimore for the first time ever - what a lovely city. Which means it was our first time trying Papi's Hampden restaurant. I was with two other people and between the 3 of us we ordered the Grande Guacamole which was excellent, the Birria Tacos, also excellent and the New Ribeye Tacos, which were very good (I probably would have liked them better if they were served on corn tortillas but I was out-voted). Even the chips and salsa tasted great. Unfortunately there are no pictures because i didn't think to take any until after most of the food was already gone. I highly recommend this Mexican Restaurant and will be sure to eat there every time we visit Baltimore. read more

we absolutely love papis! food, vibes, drinks, and most importantly, my kid eats his entire meal here. the fajita mixto is a go to bc it comes with chicken, shrimp, and steak. all sautéed with peppers and onions, more flavor than youd expect from fajitas. also, the crema and queso chihuahua on the side is just the cherry on top. if i want tacos, al pastor all the way. my fav app is the Yuca frita. Great place for Taco Tuesday Parking was pretty easy since I went on a slightly off hour, but I could see it was completely full on my way out. Got 6 total tacos for the price of 2 since it was taco Tuesday - for a pretty fair price I think. The carne asada was tender and delicious - at other places it can be so tough and dry. Also got the picosa salsa and it was not as spicy as I thought. Looking forward to trying some other salsas on the menu. The lady who served my table was also very kind and helpful. I went here today for lunch. I arrived just after 11:00am. They were not ready when arrived but, the hostess did allow me to be seated. She made me aware that they would be ready in a few minutes. The restaurant was empty only because they had just opened. Once I was seated Megan did make sure I had water, complimentary salsa and chips and a menu to look over as I waited. I was ready to place my order when she returned to my table. I ordered the catfish tacos minus the avocado, jalapeno cornbread fritters and a frozen prickly pear margarita. I munched on a few chips with salsa as I waited. The prickly pear margarita came out first, followed by the jalapeno cornbread fritters which came with a jam that paired perfectly with the fritters. When my tacos came out they did have avocado on them. I made them aware that I asked not to have avocado. They were kind enough to take the tacos back to correct them. What I appreciated most was them confirming if I had a avocado allergy? It's the small things that could mean a lot that can be a very big deal. I myself am not allergic to avocado. My dining experience was pleasurable. The food and drink were delicious. I would like to return and try some of the other menu items. I love this place, even though it is kind of inconsistent. The chips and salsa are very good, the build your own tacos are usually very good, and the mushroom tostadas were excellent. The nachos and margaritas are a bit hit or miss. But the vibe is excellent, especially in the bar and in the outdoor patio/shed area. Worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

One of my favorite locations in Hampden, where I have definitely become a regular! I recently visited again with a big group--we were worried about coming in without a reservation (since Papi's doesn't do them), but we called 30 minutes ahead and were seated as soon as we came in. There is an extensive menu along with monthly specials that rotate--some of the standouts for me over the months have been the vegetarian quesadilla, the seared tuna tacos, and the current month's tacos del mar. Outside of the special menu, the fan favorites amongst my friends are definitely the quesadilla (which I get with shrimp or chicken tinga), the burrito, and the tacos which can be ordered in either a traditional or a more American style, with many different meats, sauces, and beans to choose from. The weekend brunch is also great; there are less options that aren't meat based but it is easy to ask for things to not be included or look at the vegan/gluten-free menus. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and the vibes of the whole restaurant are so comforting and warm. Will definitely be there again! read more

First off let me say Papis tacos is a great option for a friend hangout and taco or two. When we arrived, we had about a 30 minute wait. They called around the time they promised and we were escorted to our seat promptly. Our server was nice enough. She kept our glasses and chips full, no complaints there. Our dips were ok but I'll be honest, nothing to write home about. Our entrees were pretty good. My sister and I shared the fajitas which were very tasty, they came out sizzling and smelling delicious. The elote was very different from what I had in Mexico and I wouldn't order it again. I still enjoyed the adventure. It wasn't nasty, it just wasn't for me. Overall, it was a good experience. The bill was cheap and the food was decent. I have visited the Aliceanna location many times but this was my first time at the Hampden location. The quality of food and service are consistent across locations in my opinion. We were able to get a table on the covered deck, which was nice. I typically order tacos at Papi's but I decided to try a quesadilla. I ordered a carne asada quesadilla and it was fine. It comes with pico de gallo and a drizzle of sour cream. I had to ask for more sour cream but the drizzle might be enough for others. My friend had the mission-style burrito with carne asada and he enjoyed it. The burrito was huge and full of carne asada. read more

I want to start off by saying my review is skewed because I had an awful time at the bar but good time in the restaurant. The bartender Amber (with green hair) is incredibly rude. She was rude to my friend who got there first then started talking badly about my friend (right in front of her) to other customers. Then within 0.5 seconds of me sitting down at the bar, the first thing she told me "you can't just sit there, you need to order a drink." It was busy so I was waiting for her to come over to me so I didn't interrupt..... right when she said that I said "oh okay I was just about to order a margarita" but she walked away in the middle of me explaining myself. Then a few minutes later a guy next to me sits down and she says "hi, how are you, how can I help you?" That's how you greet people who sit down at your bar. Not sure why I didn't get that but it was incredibly unprofessional how she treated me and my friend. My friend and I felt uncomfortable in the bar but we were able to get a table in the restaurant part. Service in there was great, the waitress was professional and kind. The food was also great. I got a burrito with queso and birria meat. Strongly recommend the restaurant portion but do not recommend the bar. read more

I've heard about this place a couple times and decided to try it out. I went around 3pm on a Thursday so it was not crowded right away. I decided to sit inside in the AC instead of the deck outside. Although it looked kinda cute on the deck and a good spot to take a picture. I ordered the Birria Tacos and a large side of Guacamole. My waiter brought out chips and salsa and the salsa was definitely fresh and the chips were fried that day. I enjoyed that for a little snack while I waited for my food. The wait was not too long considering it was pretty empty inside. The guacamole was very good. No chunks of avocado and just the right amount of salt. I did squeeze the lime all over my meal so my guac had extra lime which I loved. The meal came with 3 tacos and fresh crema which was delicious and of course the dipping sauce. I don't know why every time I get birria tacos from places I'm expecting a ton of flavor from the meat, which I'm always disappointed. So I look for the toppings to add that flavor. In of itself it was good but once I added the sauce and the crema and a little salsa I was satisfied. Overall, I did enjoy my meal but I think I'm going to try something different next time. As long as I can get the fresh crema with anything I'll be satisfied. I will be back to try other things on the menu. I'm actually looking forward to it and that fresh crema!!! read more

I came here for lunch and I am glad I got to experience the space without the large crowd. Initially I was a bit put off about the lack of welcoming from staff initially. They seemed in their own convo before greeting or acknowledging me and no one was in the area but me. Our outdoor experience redeemed itself as our serving staff was extremely kind and attentive. The outdoor space is cute for a daytime or nighttime date or outing with the family. I wasn't too happy with the signature margarita. It was very sweet considering the price point up from the house margarita. I didn't notice much of a difference. The birria tacos while super popular on the menu and is considered a staple wasn't so great. The meat while tender had little to no flavor. I will definitely be back to try some other menu items. The parking can be a nightmare sometimes and during the warmer months I recommend a reservation because it can get busy pretty early. Papi's is definitely a nice little joint to go to if you have a quick craving for tacos, etc. I think they are bringing one to Towson which is closer to us so I'm sure I'll try that location too. Wait: We went here with a friend who lives in the Hampden are on a Tuesday evening. Service: We ordered it inside but for to-go (sitting outside at picnic tables). I didn't really like the outdoor deck they had so the tables worked for us. Food: I really don't have any complaints. I got an elote, plantains, shrimp tacos, and plant based (Beyond meat I think) meat tacos. The elote was good but not the best I'd ever had. The plantains were PERFECT and that sauce they serve with them? YUM. I'll definitely get more than one order next time. The tacos were good! I love anywhere that offers ample cilantro, Tajín, and radish for me. Hubby enjoyed his tacos as well. Overall it's worth a visit even if just once. I've gotten takeout and dined in, and the drinks I've had when dining in have also been great.
