I have driven by this place a million times but never thought to stop in. It wasn't until I was talking to a friend of a friend who has since moved to New York, but came back on a visit and told me he picked up four burrito at Cinco de Mayo to take back with him so I had to try this place. This is a restaurant inside of a massive grocery store. There's decent signage, but it's basically a labyrinth and the restaurant sits on the backside. The staff was really friendly. I got an Al pastor burrito and esquires to go. The food is pretty good. It's not super authentic more of a fusion, but it hits the spot. The Alpa store taco had avocados in it, which really gave me a baja mexican food vibes. The salsa was great - I will definitely be asking for more next time. I was really impressed with how much grocery they had inside this market because it looks quite small from the outside, but it's quite large. It looks really well maintained, and the shelves were being stocked. I will definitely be stopping by for Hispanic grocery items and for a quick fusion bite - it's good to know I don't have to drive to Highland town. read more

Their menu is pretty decent, some of the Mexican dishes are pretty authentic, some other ones I'm not sure if I wanna order again; specifically potato chorizo taquitos that were soggy, not crispy at all for tacos dorados. Salsas are delish and pitcher drinks are generous and flavorful. Service is prompt and kind. Ambiance is always chill and in a very quiet part of the building. The food here is awesome! I would say I'm a regular I've eaten from here more than 4 times and it's Pretty authentic. This place reminds me of California, even the little market. BTW this restaurant is INSIDE the Mexican food market. You can find great Mexican and International Latin spices and items here, which is amazing as a Latina. I usually get the 4 Tacos De Birria Y Consome and an extra taco like Al Pastor or Carnitas. I tried the Taco De Lengua (beef tongue) once since the food is good. The meat was very tender but it was lacking seasoning and flavor especially compared to the Birria Tacos. The food is usually good and I always forget to take Pictures! The hours on Google/Trip Advisor/Yelp says they open at 6. I walked in at 6:45 am and was informed that the restaurant opens at 9. However, they offered to make my breakfast anyway. I had the Huevos Divorciados and it was absolutely delicious. Per my request of over easy, the eggs were cooked perfectly. The salsa roja and verde were nice and although the rice a beans were not particularly special, they were good too. The dining room might turn some folks off as it is worn and grungy. The service was prompt and friendly. If you don't want to wait an hour or more for a table just to get an overpriced (albeit good) breakfast at Miss. This is the no frills, best authentic Mexican restaurant I've been to! The food here is right on point and I would've never found this place if it wasn't for my fiancé. When I walk in I think, why are we wearing in a grocery store? Then I realized the secret is all the way in the back of the store. I've eaten here numerous times and we stopped in on a Sunday for tacos. First of all, this is the worst kept secret spot for tacos in Baltimore, everyone knows about it, but it still has that Baltimore charm and reasonable prices. My husband and I split the pitcher of horchata (literally the best horchata you can get in a taco spot) to begin with. We also ordered the birria sin queso (4 tacos/$15), carne asada, barbacoa, and tripa. I don't know if it's because we've been on a two year quest to find the best tacos in Baltimore, but the tacos just didn't hit the same way this time. Don't get me wrong, they were good, but not amazing. They definitely needed hits of salt and acid, and they were generous with the limes and salsas on the side. But the salsa roja was just spicy and a bit one note and the salsa verde was just tomatillo forward and didn't bring much more to the table. My husband pointed out that it's still in the top 3 or 4 taco joints in Baltimore, but after recently having been to Poncho's (across from Cross Street Market), Cinco de Mayo Dos has been shuffled to the bottom of the top, whereas it used to reign supreme in my heart. Yes, we'll be back, and I probably will be getting the lengua and pollo to see if I just ordered wrong. I got that suddenly Cinco feeling as I was drinking the wonderful Horchata from this tiny back-room hole-in-wall real Mexican restaurant, as I realized it's 7 hours away from where I live, and I won't be able to drink it all too often. But then you could say the same thing about my one girlfriend in Cincinnati, so that's life, I suppose. What to get: Horchata, Tacos, Everything. What else: Check out the grocery store while you're waiting. Anything else: Don't expect amazing service, just amazing food and drinks. If they sold protective sports equipment, they'd be Shinguard-De-Mayo, but they don't. You have to literally wander through the grocery store, making a right turn, a left turn, and then going up a ramp, just to find this tiny cavernous back room restaurant. That in itself, makes it worth the experience. But it just so happens that the tacos here are thoroughly authentic delicious Mexican street food. So authentic, even, that many of the staff do not speak English well, or at all. Baltimore is not exactly a haven for perfect Mexican food, but these tacos are better than any I've had anywhere in the DMV or Maryland at large. What's even better is some of the best tasting, fresh, creamy, milky, refreshing Horchata I've had anywhere. It's in my "top 5 Horchatas" and yes there is such a thing. Up there with Suadero in Queens NYC and Taco Nazo in Columbus. If it was run by old ladies that never married and like to knit, it'd be Spinster-De-Mayo, but it isn't. As I said, service isn't always great, decor is adorable but run down and gloomy, and you wouldn't bring a fancy date here (well you wouldn't, but I would), but the food and drinks are amazing. And if you want to impress your friends with a "hole-in-wall hard-to-find back-room" gem, this would be the place to take them. If it were covered in glitter and Xmas decorations, it'd be Tinsel-De-Mayo, but usually it's not. By the way, there are a couple of other locations of Cinco De Mayo, nearby (to the East), and they are better for sit-down (more like restaurants), but I always skip them because this place tastes slightly better, the horchata is better, and there's just something about that back-room-of-a-grocery-store experience. Make sure you order tacos, horchata, and the entire kitchen Cinco. And if it had sexy nude performers to entertain you while you eat, it'd be Stripper-De-Mayo, and they'd probably be wearing Tinsel-De-Mayo (especially the boys), but it doesn't, so they're not, and I apologize sincerely for that. read more

But the restaurant I haven't tried until today and I'm very glad I did. Their carnitas taco is the best I have had in town, soft and crispy and definitely cooked in the traditional way with lard. The taco is packed with meat and their salsa roja is the perfect consistency. The torta is literally the size of a football and I could only finish half of it, but it was full of flavor and the bread was airy, buttery and crispy. This is the type of hole in the wall that every yelper just craves to find. You go to the back of the store, through a small hallway to pop out into a little diner. We sat down to look at the menu, and sunk into the booths. This place was basic, unadorned - and I was looking forward to some awesome food. Then we noticed the table was a bit grimy, so we moved to the regular non-booth tables. A cockroach was hanging out on the table, just kind of looking at us from feet away. Here's my thoughts on pests in establishments. I get it - it happens. Even clean places will have some from time to time, and you might unfortunately see one scurry past. When they hang out on the table, fearlessly looking at you - then I start to question what is going on behind the scenes. Al Pastor Tacos (1 for $3) - marinated, perfectly cooked pork goodness with chopped pineapple, course chopped white onion, and lots of cilantro. OMG!!!!!!! Chicken Quesadilla * * * (I think $8) - This one lost stars because instead of a flour tortilla which I think is more American . . . it had this thick tamale/floury batter that surrounded this wonderful delicious chicken mixture in the middle with melted queso fresco. It was topped with crema and more queso fresco. We just ended up cutting the batter off (it was literally that thick - almost like cutting through bone to get to the marrow) HA! I got three tacos from this place over four days ago, and I kid you not, I have only just now recovered from the food poisoning. I didn't even know food poisoning could be so awful. The first day was stomach cramps that had me yelling out in pain and crying for hours (I am a 35-year-old adult), on top of the usual fun symptoms of food poisoning. I was almost hospitalized for dehydration after not being able to keep water down for over a day. Tacos were chorizo, shrimp and carne asada. None tasted "off" but none tasted good either. My friends and I came here after searching on yelp (and it was about the only place open past 7pm) This place is situated in the back of a grocery store, and to my surprise, it's quite big! The restaurant is narrow, but got tables and chairs on both sides. We were attended to immediately. I got 3 tacos, friend got a carnitas tortas, 2 others got the enchiladas. We also got the horchata, originally thought it was pricey but it came in a mini pitcher, enough to share with 4 people! Everything was SO GOOD, and so plentiful! It's fresh, hot, and flavorful. None of us could even have a conversation as we were concentrated on gobbling all that food! It really hits the spot and the server was pretty prompt. Disclaimer- the review is for the grocery story ONLY (I'll be back to review the restaurant) MY son's Spanish class decided they were going to have a Día de Muertos celebration, and I though some Pan Dulce would be a perfect thing for him to bring. I made several phone calls to Cinco de Mayo Dos to get more intel on their Pan Dulce (what time do you make them, when do you put them out, what are your busy times, will they be ok to eat the next day, how big are they, etc?), and every question was answered with patience and kindness, which I can appreciate. I showed up around noon, and of course, quite a few pan dulce was gone (perfect for breakfast with coffee) but I still managed to scoop up several different varieties. Every. One. Was. Amazing. (Yes, I tried them). Service continued to be amazing (despite the lack of Spanish on my part) and as you imagine, the kids loved the pan dulce. Sure, service wasn't super friendly (and wasn't unfriendly either), but it's perfectly fine and the food is out of this world. You basically walk through a Mexican grocery store and then sit in the back in an unglamorous room with telenovelas playing. Sit down and the waitress will bring you a menu or grab one on the table under the TV when you walk in. We had a few tacos (al pastor, carnitas and spicy pork) and each one of them was nothing less than fantastic. Best tacos I've had in Baltimore by a decent leap (and I love me some Tortilleria Sinaloa and Tijuana Tacos 3 and most importantly Fiesta Mexicana in Rosedale). I also had an al pastor quesadilla which was basically a fried football filled with possibly the best al pastor I've ever had. Just amazing. I have a mix feeling about their foods... The restaurant is back of grocery store. I could not find it first and wandering around. The guy who spoke English asked if I was looking for a restaurant, and he showed me. It was literary back back of the store. I think everything is pretty cheap compared to other Latino places in this area. The lady working there seemed to speak very minimum English, so be patient. But hey, I speak very limited Spanish (worse than her English) so... I love chorizo and beef tongue general so I needed to try. Chorizo was little dried to me, and tongue was unexpected taste. However, grilled beef was very tasty to me. I would give 5 stars for beef. I would love to try their beef platter. Since they are meat shop, steak would be nice. If you are looking for somewhere very fancy, clean, and nice service eating place, this is not the place you are going. Food is decent, and price is great. Wow wow...I ate here while traveling. Some of the best Mexican food on the planet! I had the El Pastor Hurracha which was a giant corn tortilla covered with El Pastor , beans, lettuce and cotija cheese. Normally i finish everything but it was huge. Great salsas too. Theor tacos are reasonably priced compared to other taco places I've been to in the city. It took about 15mins for my order to be ready. Based on other reviews it seems like this place can be a hit or miss. All 3 of the meats I had were seasoned well. The pork was a little dry but nothing to complain about. The tacos were topped with onins and cilantro and you get radish, lime, and 2 sauces (red and green) on the side. I do not know the difference between the 2 sauces but the red definitely has a kick to it. The only real complaint is I think a some tripe was in my pork taco and for me that taste was off putting. I called the restaurant and not once but TWICE was hung up on because they didn't want to deal with the issue. First time around, I explained what happened and the guy who works the store stated that he would ask the waitress who was in charge of take outs. According to the waitress, the "list" showed 1 taco instead of 3. However I was charged for all of it and my doordash receipt showed the right order. The guy had me on hold but I can hear background noise from the restaurant. Then suddenly, someone hung up. I called back. Same guy responded. Instead of apologizing he said "the waitress doesn't want to take your call. She saw one taco and that's it". This made me furious. What business handles mistakes by hanging up on their customer instead of apologizing and using basic customer service?! So I asked for a manager and he said I would have to come in the morning. I asked for the waitresses name. Instead of providing it, the guy said he didn't know which was a complete lie and I called him out on it. This place has an authentic, grungy feel. It's to the point - get some food, eat some food - without any decoration. Its hidden inside a more general grocery store. The food is great, plentiful and cheap. read more

Good lord, this place is now my favorite neighborhood joint for Mexican food! I feel guilty for ranking it higher than Los Mariachis, which is still my go-to for nachos though. Tortas with carne enchilada and pollo loco quesadilla were delicious. The meat was flavorful, portion large but not obesity-large. Free chips with green homemade salsa was one of the best homemade salsas I've had. Will be back! read more

You KNOW that this place was going to be good when you walk into what seems to be just just a small store with some produce, meat counter and staples and then get led into the very back/hidden place where a tiny restaurant is. Everything looked good on the menu and while you decide what you want, they bring out homemade tortilla chips with a delicious/cilantro/green/spicy sauce. I could drink that stuff! Obvy homemade. I wanted a tamale and a taco and they were out of tamales (sad face). So I opted for 2 tacos. 1 carnitas and 1 al pastor. The tacos are big and comes with a some grilled veggies on the side which I loved AND homemade green and red salsa! Yes! Fiancé got the chorizo taco (wish I got this) and a quesadilla. O man, this quesadilla was huge, fried, cheesy, meaty and delicious. So not good for your health. Were not served water and it was a bit spicy. We got the guava juice in bottle and it was delish, reminded me of the Hawaiian Sun guava juice. Service was not the best. Took a longgg time to pay which felt like an eternity b/c our time on the meter was running out but other than that, it's the most authentic Mexican place I've been to out here.
