Cinco de Mayo Dos - Steak sope! - Meat Shops Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

A great local restaurant giving an authentic feel. Located in the rear of a Mexican grocery store, which sells fresh, meat heavy pork rinds by the pound, it smells, feels, and tastes like a families expanded kitchen. The ox tongue burrito, priced at $7.99, is unique, tasty, and evidence to support your culinary courage. Contains flavored Mexican rice, onions, tomatoes, avocados, and heavy slices of ox tongue meat. Surprisingly, the tongue prepared is a tender meat, much more tender than the other beef options. The chips that are given as appetizers are a crap shoot. Sometimes, the chips are warm, crisp, and fresh. Others, soggy, and dated. The chips come with a green sauce that has some taste of guacamole. Ask for their spicy red sauce. It is a flavorful chili salsa with a galloping kick! The wait staff, despite the language barrier and lack of training, are pleasant and will cater to gringos practicing what was once learned during college level conversational Spanish. At times, service is delayed. Usually, there are 1 and at most 2 waitresses. Suggestions - The burrito is presented in halves wrapped with a thin wax/aluminum sheet. Due to the freshness, the burrito is hot, so while you begin to eat the first half, unwrap the second half- this way the second half will be warm and not hot, allowing you to enjoy the flavors without compromising your tongue. El fin - Great food. Great environment; I enjoy the lack of sterility, so burdensome at time in high class dining. Not the cleanest, so may not impress certain clientele. read more

A burrito the size of my head for less than $10.... YES PLEASE! This place is in the back of the latin supermarket that you can browse while you wait for your food. Now... it is NOT fancy, nor like a restaurant. I went, ordered, and got my food and ate it by the Harbor. Service was friendly, a bit slow... but not enough that is annoying. A very authentic place to eat some homemade latin food. If you are nearby... go check it out. Also... OMG their avocados are CHEAP there.! read more

Tucked deep inside a Hispanic grocery store is the best Mexican cuisine I've found thus far in Bmore. Cinco de Mayo makes, hands down, the best tacos al pastor I have eaten outside of Mexico or LA. They're juicy, savory, with a noticeable chili kick and just a hint of pineapple sweetness. The tacos de lengua and my fiancée's carne asada burrito were pretty amazing as well. I recommend this place unreservedly. read more

Definitely one of my favorite place to have Mexican food in the city. It's a hidden gem that locate in the back of a Mexican market/grocery store. I would have never found this place if it wasn't for my boyfriend. The food are very on-point with reasonable price, always fresh and delicious. I have tried most of their menu and I was never disappointed. Service is also nice and fast. I would recommend this place. read more

Quick dinner in the back of the grocery store. It's larger than I expected it to be. I've seen places like this with just a counter to order food and a few seats. I ordered the Sopes with al pastor. The bits of pineapple really brought it together for me. The blend of all of that with the gently flowing waterfall made it all worth it. The service is great and the prices are right. Will go back and try some of the other stuff once my stomach returns to normal size. read more

I just got the huevos rancheros via door dash and it is THE BEST I've ever had. Such a hidden gem!!

The restaurant is located in the back of the supermarket. The building is in decrepit shape, but everything inside seems to be organized. I think the food here is pretty authentic - I typically order the cow tongue (lengua) burrito, or tacos and they're all tasty. I sometimes find the burrito has too much rice - but the taste makes up for it. The hot sauces that come on the side in the mini cups (you have to ask for these) are HOT. Other than the food, the service is pretty standard - just don't expect attentive service. Just a typical - order your food, wait for the food to come out and ask for the check. read more

I have only been here once, but my meal was extremely salty. Not sure if the chef was just heavy handed with the salt that day, but from what I could tell, the food was okay enough for me to come give it another try. read more

Amazing... seriously legit tacos. I was shocked to find tacos this good in Baltimore. Their mole is pretty dang good too. As I am a Texan, you can trust my judgement. read more

I am always on the hunt for good authentic Mexican food, so when I casually passed by this place on my way to Clark Burger I had to stop in. I almost turned around to leave as I thought I had been mistaken. But one of the store employees assured me that there was in fact a restaurant here, just tucked away in the back of the store. There was a slight language barrier, but nothing too drastic. I ordered chicken soft tacos, Americanized as the employee jokingly called them...lol. But they were delicious nonetheless and I would return if ever in the area again. read more

Wow. My wife lived in Baltimore a long time back, in 2008, and back then I was under the impression that there was not very much good ethnic food, and also that the entire stretch of Little Italy/Fells/Canton area was mostly just yuppies. Wrong and wrong, apparently. Back in Baltimore for a conference at the nearby Marriott in waterfront east, I saw this place on Yelp and decided to check it out. At first it looks like a convenience store because the restaurant is way in the back. I got a torta al pastor and a horchata and they were both seriously good. As taco places go this is one of the better east coast operations I've visited. R&R has been in some decline, possibly because they got too famous - I think this place is better, and R&R is still good enough that this is saying something. You should definitely go here. Oh, it should go without saying that the decor is fairly appalling. But the food is awesome. read more

Amazing! Authentic Mexican food. We can't get enough! The quesadilla is bigger than a calzone- amazingly delicious! When you go I to the store just keep walking to the back- and bring a translator :) read more

The tacos here are delicious perfect for a taco Tuesday!! The al pastor was one of the best I've had in awhile. I found that pricing was reasonable. The service in the other hand wasn't so well it took what seem forever to have some one take our order a little longer to get our food which which I must say was worth the wait, but from there on out Our waitress never came around! My friend had to hunt her down to get our check. read more

After an afternoon of loping in sunflower fields, and hiking at a waterfall, my lover, friends and I decided we needed to chow down on some heavy chunks of carbs. And chow we did. This was my first time at Cinco De Mayo and I must say, I love the feel of this grocery and hidden diner. It's a very homey neighborhood and local feel to it. And the surprising bit is how they managed to squeeze a restaurant into what could have been a backroom or hangout area for the workers to eat lunch. This nearly windowless eating area looked like an extended bathroom, with a Jesus/Mother Mary themed waterfall set up at the very epicenter. It might have been a transformed urinal, but really, the mini waterfall was charming and cute - it's just that it seemed very out of place. It's forgivable. The food was fantastic. We got the carne asasda burrito and el pastor quesadillas. I love the weight to price ratio for this meal. They were large and probably the same size if not bigger than Chipotle burritos. The seasoning was perfect and had a great balance of Mexican earthy flavors. Most importantly, it was very very buttery. There was so much butter leaking out, I'm sure it clogged an artery on the way down. I really enjoyed demolishing this sucker. The el pastor quesadilla I had mixed feelings. On one hand, the pork inside was so perfectly delicious. It wasn't overly salty, it was seasoned well and had melty gooey queso fresco holding it together, however, the fried quesadilla shell overwhelmed the wonderful flavors. The shell was floury and so thick that it foiled the fantastic flavors of its stuffing. I enjoyed eating the meat inside and the flour shell separately. Given how much I loved the food, I really wanted to give this place a 4 or 5 rating, however, the service was strongly lacking. The server was probably busy with other roles in the kitchen, however, the turnaround time for our checks and meals was exaggerated. There were also very few people to be serviced so I was surprised the service was taking as long as it did. I did like that this place was not very crowded and that there were few people here. It still reminds me of the bathroom, but I would have forgiven it seeing how amazing the food was. But still...that service wasn't the best...I would still come back here for the food though and would definitely take friends here to get a taste of real Mexican food. read more

I grew up in Los Angeles and so KNOW mexican spots. I recently moved to Baltimore and have been looking for a legit Mexican restaurant and so i read reviews for this place and honestly, I will never come back here again. The place was pretty empty the entire time I was there during my lunch time. I order a burrito al pastor and honestly I was disappointed. It did not taste authentic at all and the al pastor was not even prepared correctly. Another thing, the guacamole there looked and tasted like it came out of a can, it was really salty. Last thing that really bothered me was that there was no actual salsa, there was bottled hot sauce, but how are you going to claim to be a mexican restaurant and not even serve homemade salsa. The people there were really nice, but i was not happy with my experience. I ended up paying 30 bucks for a burrito and a torta with two drinks, which for a lunch is ridiculous. :( ps. I am mexican so I know what my people's food is supposed to taste like. read more

This restaurant is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall gem. On a relatively barren block, sits a run-down small little grocery store. Then if you go in through a maze of aisles within the grocery store, you stumble upon this little restaurant. It looks kind of unkempt, but in a welcoming kind of way -- when you see the slightly broken chairs and authentic, mis-mash of condiments, you know that the focus is not on appearance, but rather on the food. The meal starts off with a complimentary tray of tortilla chips and guac/salsa. I have been here twice and have ordered the carne enchilada (spicy pork meat) burrito each time, because it is just so delicious. The first time I came, they provided enough food to feed two starving people two meals in a row!! Unfortunately, the most recent time, they seemed to have cut their portions (as my friends also agreed), and it can only feed one starving person now. That being said, the prices are still decent at 7$/burrito. I love the filling of seasoned rice, veggies, pork, and queso fresco --- it is hot and steaming, and the cheese pulls with each bite. It is amazing!! My friends ordered the tacos at 2.75/taco - which were also delicious, and the al pastor quesadilla at 7$/each -- steaming hot, thick flaky crust, and flavorful pork meat. The reason I only gave 4 stores despite the amazing food, is the decrease in portion size compared to before (I had expected what I had the first time), and the service (you have to request water when dining in, otherwise water will not be supplied -- and it is difficult to get a hold of the waitress). Definitely will return. And would recommend to anyone who would like an authentic experience in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. read more

This place is hard to find (the restaurant part) but totally worth it. If you trek through the grocer to the back of the store you'll find the restaurant. You'll find authentic mexican food. Really good Horchatas and licuados. They still serve sodas out of glass bottles. The Sopes are special. I recommend the al pastor. The tortas are great as well. Carnitas is my favorite. The enchilada is good, but really heavy. If you are only slightly hungry, I'd go with the tostadas. Skip the burrito, it is good, but there are better options. read more

I tried this place for dinner on a Tuesday, and it was great in every way. Quick service, good prices, and especially delicious food!! I got a chorizo burrito and it was fresh and flavorful with a little kick. The restaurant is in the back behind the grocery store or you can get carry out. Definitely coming back! read more

This place is so-so. I didn't really think these tacos were all that great. I like love cheap tacos so much but theses didn't hit the spot. Overall they were pretty bland the chorizo was pretty dry. I love my local taco place and this one just doesn't stack up to the rest. Also no chip and salsa...what's up with that read more

This is the place to go for cheap-o random spices. I decided to try my hand at making my own tonic water but I didn't want to have to buy cinchona bark (a natural source of quinine) online in large quantities but I read somewhere that sometimes it's carried in Latin American markets. Cinco de Mayo 2 delivered and for faaaaaar cheaper than anywhere I found online! (Word to anyone who wants to make their own tonic; it's totally worth it and the bark's Spanish name is Quina. You're welcome.) I also managed to locate all of the random spices I needed for homemade bitters as well, all for less than $10, so I left a happy camper. read more

As all have stated, this place is buried in the back of the store. The "dining room" was pretty dirty and the food was okay. I ended up getting 3 tacos... Asada which looked like cheese steak meat, chicken which was basic grilled with little to no seasoning, and carnitas (pork) which was a little dry. I was trying to get the food for takeout but was told that they didn't offer "to go"? The waitress was nice but spoke no English at all... my Spanish is limited so after some pointing to the menu and some back and forth I finally got my order in. A reviewer mentioned homemade corn tortillas but I saw the waitress grab a bag right out of the store after I placed my order... at least I knew they were fresh. All in all it was decent but I don't think I'll be going back which sucks because I really love authentic Mexican. read more

With great reviews come great expectations. Needless to say I was disappointed. I asked for pork tamales and got chicken instead and the tamales were all masa with a tiny bit of meat. 1 star for the tamales. I have heard only good things and have been excited to try it. Tonight I tried to place a To-Go order an hour and a half before they closed. I called and asked "Can I place an order for pick-up" the woman on the line simply said "no" and hung up the phone. I found it very rude that I didn't have a chance to ask a follow up question. I'll try to update this review if I ever give them another try. read more

This place truly is in the back (not basement) of this Mexican store. I was the only dining customer at lunch time during the week but they had plenty of people in and out picking up carry out. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was huge! It to me was not what I was used to as far as quesadilla's back home. It was more like a giant chicken burrito. It was delicious and way more than I could eat. A Spanish drama was playing on the tv and entertained me as I ate. No it's not a place to go for the ambiance but the food was good. The salsas they served (3 choices) were also good and way different (better) than what you get in an Americanized restaurant. Definitely an experience. :-) read more

I never would have known about this place's hidden restaurant if it weren't for yelp. This is an authentic Mexican place where the server didn't speak much English and the clients were all Hispanic. The carnitas burrito was amazing. It would have been even better if it had lettuce and sour cream, but it was still great. The pork was so tender and they give you huge chunks of it. The horchata was refreshing, and because I got it to go, they gave me like a tub of it. I was not a big fan of the flan neopolitano. But overall, the food was very good! read more

Still very good but this time we got delivery since it was cold and rand even though we live like 2 blocks away, they had some trouble finding us. The cheese torta, which I was promised was vegetarian had the most meat on it - luckily our vegetarian person had to leave before the food arrived. But, the tortas were as good as we remembered esp the Al Pastor. Could eat these tortas often! read more

Best tacos around! They are so yummy. Mexican sodas, hot salsa, and delicious tortillas and chips.

So the food here is absolutely delicious! Seriously everything we had was amazing. I had the carne enchilada burrito and thought I was in heaven. The meat was so delicious and seasoned perfectly. My boyfriend had a chicken quesadilla and that was impressive as well. We washed it all down with tasty sweet horchata. The only reason this isn't five stars is because you will wait a long time for your food. There was only one waitress for the whole place so she was running back and forth the whole time. I will definitely be coming back though and will probably try an order for pick up. read more

I absolutely love the food here. I had the steak burritos and tacos; much better than Qdoba or Chipotle. Qdoba has a niche for their queso sauce and cilantro; more options. Chipotle has the basics. I was an hour late picking up carryout, and they were nice to call me for a reminder read more

I stumbled upon this place over the weekend. I was walking on eastern to go to another place when the window sign said Tacos! So I said self, why not get a side of tacos to go with my other meal. I bought 2 Beef Tongue tacos and 1 Buche taco. Best tacos I've had by far. The beef tongue melts in your mouth. Buttery and juicy that no red sauce is really needed. The Buche taco was also so delicious. The red sauce is really spicy so you've been warned. However, the cebollines were so savory. It reminded me of a restaurant in Guate called Los Cebollines. Ask for the grilled green onions. You won't be disappointed. I will def make the 45 minute trip back for some more side of tacos. With that said, if it looks yummy....than eat :) read more

The food is excellent! And this is coming from a taco connoisseur. They give out free chips and guac. And the guacamole is very good and taste like its made to order - that's how fresh it taste. They even serve it with flour tortilla chips! Who else gives out free guac these days? I tried chorizo and beef tacos. They came topped with everything you want in an authentic taco.
