I wanted to love it. but I didn't. First the good. Luna Oaxaca is located in Village of Cross Keys. It's a cute restaurant with a good vibe. There's a lot of parking in the area.. but right now it's limited because of the snow. The staff is friendly, especially the bartender Juan. For me, it's a nice spot for Happy Hour or a first date. The Queso Fundido was good. They have a few good options in the Mocktail Menu I tried the Fresa Linda There's bad was the food. I wasn't wowed like I wanted to be. My meal wasn't terrible, I just wasn't pleased. I actually needed up going somewhere else to get my son takeout. I order the Aguachile.. my friend makes it and I love it. The one here was t as good and the shrimp didn't marinate in the citrus long enough to fully cook so it was raw. like still grey. I also wanted to try the Rosita Mocktail but they were out of ingredients and couldn't make it :( Maybe they were just having a not so great night when I came. Maybe I'll try again in the future.

When we arrived for lunch, we were greeted nicely. First allow me to say how this was my first experience with Guacamole and it did not disappoint!!! I literally could eat it with chips all by itself! It tasted so fresh and I couldn't stop eating! The quesadilla was wonderful as well as the enchiladas. Presentation was great! To top it off we had the tres leche for dessert!!! It is in the top 3 best I've had ever!!! I would go back here specifically for the guac and tres leche!!!!! Looking forward to going back!!!

I made a reservation easily online. We were promptly seated when we arrived. The drinks were strong and beautifully made. The fundió, chips, and salsa were just ok. I would gladly return to have drinks at the bar.

Carne Asada Tacos

On a recent lunch with one of my friends we decided to try Luna Oaxaca since I had previously seen they were open and serving brunch. We both agreed Luna Oaxaca was a good choice. Luna Oaxaca is one of the newer restaurants in the Cross Keys center, nestled off to the side by itself. The sleek yet minimalistic decor of the interior is nice and open, and they have outside seating for those warmer days and nights. Although we went for brunch, I wasn't really in the mood for their brunchy items since most have eggs and I'm no egg eater. So, I settled on the Carne Asada tacos since tacos are always my go to when trying a new Mexican restaurant. I also ordered a side of chips & salsa to see how well they did those. The chips & salsa were pretty tasty; I could've used a bit more spice in the salsa but that's my personal taste buds. The Carne Asada tacos were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. And actually, filled with meat and pico de gallo. My friend ordered the veggie tacos and said those were quite tasty too. I'm always on the hunt for a good Mexican restaurant and Luna Oaxaca is one I'll definitely make a trip to again to try some of their other menu items. The service was good, and the food was tasty, so that's a win in my book.

Fish tempura tacos

For starters, we did not partake in the happy hour. The dinner menu in my opinion looked more promising. I was very pleased with this decision. The cheese pull on the empanadas was primo. They were a bit greasy but tasty nonetheless. My fish tempura tacos were flavorful with just the right amount of crunch. The tres leches cake was just the perfect amount of sweetness and was not overly moist. I would definitely eat here again.

Hibiscus Mezcal Margarita.

My first visit at Luna Oaxaca with reservations for dinner and we were seated immediately. Our server was Ronnie. Service was prompt with carafe of iced water poured tableside. We started off with drinks and margaritas were delicious. My mezcal margarita with fresh hibiscus was smoky and not too sweet, the sugared rim was nice touch. For appetizer, we shared the empanadas con pollo. I liked the balance of the toasted empanada pastry packed with shredded chicken and ooze of cheese. The chipotle aioli was a nice complement with a touch of subtle heat. I was not a fan of the side house salad though the red onions could've been served as salsa criolla instead. Ours had too many lettuce ribs. On to the entree and I chose the enchilada potocinas con camarones y mole. This dish was delicious and the amount of mole was perfect, except I was disappointed to taste chopped shrimp. I hope they consider changing to whole pieces as each could easily fill 2-3 plump ones per enchilada (the dish came with 3). And para postre, we finished with the in-house made tres leches cake. Generous serving of sponge cake, creamy milk poured over with a dolop of fresh whipped cream and a sprinkling of canela. It was delicious. Located in the Village of Cross Key, it shares parking with other shops. Same center with Cece, Nine Tailed Fox, Blue Mercury, and Always Ice Cream. Note the walk-up has a ramp, however caution there is a marked step at the entrance door. I do agree with others the noise levels are earsplitting.

We decided to try this new Mexican place at Cross Keys. We were able to get a table for 2 without a wait on Sunday at 6. It was very good. The margarita was very good and we had the mole chicken and the salmon which was prepared with toasted tortilla chips, sweet potatoes and beets. Both were quite good though the salmon was a bit overcooked. The entrees were about $30 each which is a bit steep but you can get a taco plate for $16. We'll be back to try more!

The atmosphere is a 10, can't wait to head back once the weather is consistently good and sit on the lovely patio. The guac is delicious and they make a mean margarita. I really enjoyed the Arrachera, although the serving of beans was stingy, particularly in comparison to the other side dish.

Skinny Margarita

This was our first time here. There's not a ton of indoor seating which explains why reservations fill up fast. You could eat at the bar. The outdoor seating is great but most of it is uncovered. There are a handful of tables that are under the building awning. Overall, the restaurant was cool inside. Food was delicious and prepared well. We started with the guacamole. Both of us got the skinny margarita, which we enjoyed as it was less sweet than normal margaritas. Dinner was really delicious. We will be back!

My second time here and a much better experience. The service and cuisine were five stars last time, but I had much better company on this visit. Three of us arrived and were promptly seated on the patio on what was a beautiful Baltimore evening. Marissa was our server and she was prompt, pleasant and professional. We began with an IPA and some margaritas. I enjoy the Skinny Margarita here. It's got a kick to it yet is less sugar and not as sweet as a regular margarita. The guacamole was fantastic with house made tortilla chips. The empanadas were good, not great. Too much cheese and not enough shredded beef. They were tasty but I'll definitely try something different next time. The fajitas were muy rico and enough for leftovers just like the fried chicken tacos. Yummers! The ambiance is nice here. Cross Keys is having a renaissance and it's nice to have some unique restaurants to choose from in this complex again.

Pulpo at Luna Oaxaca Cross Keys
Monet H.

We had lunch at Luna Oaxaca today. I arrived early and was surprised there was no seating for overflow or waiting customers. I chalked that up to this establishment being freshly opened. The guacamole was fresh but on the salty side and not as "medium spicy" as I would have expected. My Pulpo (grilled octopus) was basic. There was no outstanding flavor/spice. The accompanying carrots were flavorless and the chorizo mashed potatoes were lacking chorizo. The guava mezcal margarita was nice. As we were leaving, we were offered a Tshirt with Luna Oaxaca written on the front. It should have said: "My palate went to Luna Oaxaca and all I got was this lousy T shirt"

This was our first time visiting and we loved it! The decor is beautiful, staff was attentive and friendly, drinks were awesome and unique, food was outstanding. We started with the skinny margarita and the Oh My Rio cocktails. Soooo good!! Then we had the chips, salsa and spicy guac. For dinner we ordered the Al Pastor street tacos and the Pollo Acatlan with mushrooms. We sat at the bar so we asked the bartender what his favorite dish was and he said the Pollo Acatlan. We were so happy we tried it. It is one of those dishes you crave! We would highly recommend adding the mushrooms. We can't wait to go back!!

Meh. Caesar salad was terrible. The guac and fried ice cream partially made up for it.

Our server AJ took great care of us- they were funny, attentive and very friendly. For restaurant week the menu honestly was fantastic with many options for every person's palate and dietary preferences. I went with the octopus appetizer, squid ink bucatini with calamari, and a pound cake with lemon curd and mint whipped cream. Every single thing I had was delicious. The octopus was grilled perfectly and tender and the bean puree and potato paired nicely. The pasta was umami and not too tomatoey or acidic. My pound cake was tasty with the tanginess of the curd pairing well with the whipped cream. My boyfriend enjoyed his mushroom soup, his mushroom bolognese rigatoni( i tried this, I would absolutely order this next time)and a decadent chocolate tart. I ordered a variety of tapas including the octopus, cod fritters, crispy chicken wings, beef empanadas, and she ordered the seafood paella and a house salad. My friend absolutely loved the paella. My personal favorites were the chicken wings and the octopus; both were flavorful and well-prepared. Service was friendly, and our server checked in on us frequently, though there were a few hiccups. My chicken wings were initially forgotten, I was given another table's check, and I was accidentally charged twice for the wings. I called the next day, and Wendall, the general manager, promptly handled the refund, which I appreciated. Despite a few minor oversights, we had an enjoyable experience overall. The staff was especially kind. My friend asked a couple of team members to take photos for us, and they were more than happy to help, which added a nice personal touch to the evening.
