I love this place. It's a cafe, party spot, coworking space, third space, and so much more all in one. I've been searching for a "coffee shop" that also serves real food, and landed on Mama Kokos. Btw service is just okay, same as my previous visit. This time I ate outdoor. Although they bring the food to your table after you order at the bar, they do not return. I had to move our plates to an empty table just to clear it. Late night menu: I ordered the vegan bowl. The yams and greens were really good. The rest of the bowl items were okay. I also ordered fried plantains, which were basic, but decent nothing special... The beans were seasoned well and shockingly good, the rice was just plain white rice... Cannot say enough good things about this spot! When my group of *15* decided we wanted to head to late night drinks, the staff at Mama Koko's could not have been more inviting (despite their initial look of trepidation, they were great sports about us inundating them and offered us spots at the bar!) The on tap cocktails made service super quick, and the bartender was so kind. The Chula Vista is one of my new fav drinks in the city! What a great experience. Definitely a hidden gem. Unfortunately, I did not try their food. But the vibes were great. They were playing R&B music which I loved. Its hard to describe what type of establishment this was. It was kind of like a cafe but also a restaurant and bar. When we walked in we first noticed the beautiful artwork on the walls and the old infrastructure. I think the building was an old house. The artwork was African American inspired. The service was impeccable. The barista/ bar tender was very nice and easy going. He gave us some time to look at the menu. We ordered the old fashioned which was delicious. Stopped by for some drinks on the patio while the sun set. Grabbed a pina colada drink, which was SO boozy, but delicious and beautiful. While we were out on the patio, another customer was roaming around and sparking up conversation, and our waitress was kind enough to keep conversation with us so we could avoid him, which was extremely thoughtful. I stopped by Mama Koko's on a Thursday afternoon around 5pm for a quick cocktail. I found street parking easily, but there was also available parking in their lot on Saint Paul street. I was told to seat myself and there was a good amount of open seating available between the bar, two person tables around the bar, and the couches + tables on the first floor. I chose a seat at the bar and ordered at boozy Madvillain cocktail. It was delightful and not too sweet, but strong. I was told you can't use laptops at the bar, so be mindful of that if you are intending to get caught up on work like I was. I'm not sure why laptops are not allowed but it definitely encouraged me to be more present and social which is always a good thing. read more

Was dilly-dallying around Baltimore and heard music coming from the windows, which immediately caught my attention. Intrigued, I decided to stop into Mama Koko. There were many studios within the establishment, and it just so happened that there was a pop-up event happening that day. I learned these events take place every second Saturday, and this one was extra special since it landed on Mother's Day weekend. My favorite studio was the perfume studio. The scents literally lured me through the door. While I was there, more and more people started arriving for the brunch rush, which showed just how popular this spot is. I love Mama Koko's! Settled on the first floor of the historic Hooper house, Mama Koko's just has a particular charm that makes you feel right at home. There is an art gallery, AYE gallery and altar studio, right above the cafe that always has an amazing exhibit on display as well as several other businesses in the building including tailors, candle/perfumery shop and so much more. They were still serving breakfast and they also had lunch bites available. We chose a cozy spot by the window while we looked over the menu. We placed our order at the bar. Tried this place for the first time. I had the mango iced tea and it was the perfect amount of refreshing and sweet but not too sweet. I think my only issue was there was too much ice in my drink so I finished my drink faster than I would've wanted to, but I think next time I'll just ask for less ice! I came here thinking it was a posh little cafe, and was delightfully met with a live DJ playing a mix of Baltimore house, Rap, and Afro Funk. Heavy emphasis on the culture here! This place is bumpin'. Felt absolutely silly showing up with a book when patrons were happily dancing around this absolutely gorgeous historical building. Lots of natural lighting with high ceilings, great for grabbing a bite to eat or starting your nightly adventures on the right foot. Both bars are absolutely stunning, decorated with an excellent selection of vinyl records. The staff is extremely kind and well dressed. I had a chicken burrito with collard greens, the abv free mocktail ginger beer, and the Spanish gin & tonic. The burrito was super filling and flavorful, but I think the star of the show was definitely the ginger beer. Served with scotch bonnet bitters, I will be coming back next time I need a drink that truly warms the soul. I met some friends at Mama Koko's around 1pm on a Saturday. It was buzzing but, with a little patience, we were able to find seating in under 10 minutes. There is stool seating around both bars if you're solo, have a small party, or just need a place to sip your drink while you wait. Every staff member we encountered was proactively helpful and effortlessly pleasant, despite how busy they were. The vibe is immaculate. There is an inviting comfort and familiarity embedded in the venue. As for the food, I'm trying to figure out how to get those greens daily!! Everyone around me bodied their meals. There was an ash, art installation and vendors upstairs. Walked around and discovered that there was a back porch AND an extensive outdoor space that was beautiful and almost meditative. I don't know how to fully explain it but the energy, the aesthetic, the vibes and the space just spoke to me on a deeper level than I can fully elaborate on.
