I've had this place on my list of places to go for quite some time now and Mama Koko's was everything I thought it would be. I was there for the later night crowd that consist of dancing and good ole carrying own, but I has an amazing time. I had a shrimp bowl that had of course shrimps, black beans, collard greens and rice and omg... it was so delicious. The drinks were amazing as well. Now the voices, it feels like going to your Aunties house, relaxing in the living room while she cooks dinner, while thee best food aroma comes from the kitchen. The arrangement of furniture and the hospitality makes u feel at home .
What a great experience. Definitely a hidden gem. Unfortunately, I did not try their food. But the vibes were great. They were playing R&B music which I loved. Its hard to describe what type of establishment this was. It was kind of like a cafe but also a restaurant and bar. When we walked in we first noticed the beautiful artwork on the walls and the old infrastructure. I think the building was an old house. The artwork was African American inspired. The service was impeccable. The barista/ bar tender was very nice and easy going. He gave us some time to look at the menu. We ordered the old fashioned which was delicious. They had so many cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. Overall, it was a great experience. If you are in the area please check out Mama KoKo's you will not be disappointed! Cheers!
Was dilly-dallying around Baltimore and heard music coming from the windows, which immediately caught my attention. Intrigued, I decided to stop into Mama Koko. There were many studios within the establishment, and it just so happened that there was a pop-up event happening that day. I learned these events take place every second Saturday, and this one was extra special since it landed on Mother's Day weekend. My favorite studio was the perfume studio. The scents literally lured me through the door. While I was there, more and more people started arriving for the brunch rush, which showed just how popular this spot is. The strawberry iced matcha was delicious! I loved the setup, the atmosphere, and the overall experience. I'll definitely be returning.
I'd heard good things about Mama Koko's, so decided to visit. I wasn't expecting the venue to be part of a larger building, but was still charmed by the open space with antique moldings and finishes. Mama Koko's itself is a large, open space with open seating. You order up front then seat yourself. This concept wasn't immediately clear to me, so I asked an employee for help. I went with a bowl, it was delicious. And I sat and ate in some really cool ambiance. I was solo, but find Mama Koko's seems better for groups.
Cannot say enough good things about this spot! When my group of *15* decided we wanted to head to late night drinks, the staff at Mama Koko's could not have been more inviting (despite their initial look of trepidation, they were great sports about us inundating them and offered us spots at the bar!) The on tap cocktails made service super quick, and the bartender was so kind. The Chula Vista is one of my new fav drinks in the city! Thanks for the hospitality and amazing drinks, Mama Koko's!
I love Mama Koko's! Settled on the first floor of the historic Hooper house, Mama Koko's just has a particular charm that makes you feel right at home. There is an art gallery, AYE gallery and altar studio, right above the cafe that always has an amazing exhibit on display as well as several other businesses in the building including tailors, candle/perfumery shop and so much more. The food is delicious and I recommend the salmon crogel or smashburger but you cannot go wrong with one of their signs cocktails. High traffic on Friday and Saturday nights and some special events on the occasional Saturday Morning
Such a big beautiful space! Friendly service at the coffee bar and the caramel macchiato was made perfectly. Will definitely return again to check out the businesses on the 2nd floor!!
Well Well Welll !! My niece loves this place!! I finally tried and I absolutely understand why my niece loves it!! It's super easy to locate this establishment, plenty of street parking, a huge vibe!! The décor was so chill, relaxing, and comfy. I met a friend there before a show nearby. We sat at the back bar. We were greeted and assisted by Cierra. She was GREAT! She answered all of my questions regarding food and beverages. Watching her make beverages was so cool!! Poetry in motion. I swear we watched her make at least 10-15 beverages in 30 minutes. Well, it sure felt like it. They were all so pretty. Collectively, we ordered the following. Smoked Collard Greens - Good Roasted Sweet Potatoes- Great. Well seasoned. Wings: Rum Buttered Buffalo - Flavorful, tender. Liberian Meatballs - Yum! Saucy, Spicy. Lionheart (Mocktail) - VERY refreshing. Delish. Fashion Killa - Interesting beverage. Great beverage!! Koko's Ginger Beer - A popular menu item !! My friend loved it. Loved it a lot. Everything came out pretty quickly. I can't wait to visit again to try more food and beverage items.
I stopped by Mama Koko's on a Thursday afternoon around 5pm for a quick cocktail. I found street parking easily, but there was also available parking in their lot on Saint Paul street. I was told to seat myself and there was a good amount of open seating available between the bar, two person tables around the bar, and the couches + tables on the first floor. I chose a seat at the bar and ordered at boozy Madvillain cocktail. It was delightful and not too sweet, but strong. I was told you can't use laptops at the bar, so be mindful of that if you are intending to get caught up on work like I was. I'm not sure why laptops are not allowed but it definitely encouraged me to be more present and social which is always a good thing.
I like this Black owned place, but I had to remove a star due to over priced food items and portion size plus the service. 3 sides $31.50, no meat, no drink, nothing else. Btw service is just okay, same as my previous visit. This time I ate outdoor. Although they bring the food to your table after you order at the bar, they do not return. I had to move our plates to an empty table just to clear it. Late night menu: I ordered the vegan bowl. The yams and greens were really good. The rest of the bowl items were okay. I also ordered fried plantains, which were basic, but decent nothing special... The beans were seasoned well and shockingly good, the rice was just plain white rice... Vibe 5 stars... indoor and outdoor seating It appears to be an every age group type of environment. No tvs, forcing everyone to socialize which was cool... the only down side is the music is too loud to actually hold conversations inside when there is a DJ. Street parking is available.
I went for a quick bite before going into the office. The aura of this place is so bright. I want to explore more Mama Koko's and hooper house. My mango matcha was so goos and my blueberry muffin being warmed up made my day. I was able to enjoy breakfast and read.
Mama Koko's is definitely still a vibe! Just be mindful of the different timings of their various menus. There is a breakfast/lunch menu, a separate happy hour menu, and then a late night evening menu. There is some cross over, but you could very well go thinking you can get a certain thing and it will not be available. Table service is available after 5pm, order at the counter before then.
Came here at the recommendation of a friend who is a native Baltimorean. I'm so glad I did. Loved the vibe here. It was pretty packed when I went midday, but I was able to find a seat near an outlet (!) at the bar area. I pulled out my laptop and made myself comfy while I waited for the food I ordered. I ordered a cherry soda (house made) and a burger and fries. My food came out quickly and it was delicious, especially the house made sauce. This spot is like a coffee bar and cafe in one. I loved that it was on the lower level of an art gallery, and that there was art and culture on display all around. Hopefully I can come back here the next time I'm in town! read more

Beautiful spot for an afternoon patio hangout and appetizers. Came here around 3:45 on a Thursday and realized they have new hours: closed between 3-5pm! Luckily, there were still staff inside, and they were kind enough to let us relax on the patio while we waited for service to start again. The garden area on the patio is so beautiful, I can't get enough of it. The hanging lights, well kept foliage, flowers, and tiled walkways will keep you there for hours. This time, I finally tried their food! We grabbed a smoked salmon dip recommended to us by the waiter, and it was well worth it. Smokey, creamy dip topped with fresh dill, pickled onion, and capers served with a variety of buttery crackers. YUM. We also grabbed the Libyan meatballs, which were a spicier twist on a classic marinara meatball. My friend and I shared a couple drinks, but I don't recall the names as the craft cocktail menu changes frequently. One was a boozy tropical sipper topped with a lime, another was a beautiful spicy mango drink topped with mint, and finally we tried a pistachio infused sparkling drink with a side of pistachios. Out of the three, the spicy mango one was my favorite, but they were all very unique and delicious. Love this spot as always and I can't wait to come back! read more

I took my best friend out to celebrate her birthday and we had an amazing night! There are so many different ways to experience Mama Koko's; try the lounge area, dining room, bar, or even the patio. They all have a cozy, soulful vibe. We had a reservation in the dining room and it felt like a New York night in a Brooklyn brownstone (very chic). Our server was also our bartender, Ari, and he took excellent care of us. The sound system cocktail is his creation and it was reportedly a 10/10. I'm not a big drinker so he recommended the house made ginger beer--divine! They were out of snapper this night but we were able to substitute the fish in our dishes for branzino. My friend really enjoyed her fish dinner and raved about the slaw. My peri peri sandwich was sooooo good--I do think the snapper would have elevated the flavor but no complaints. I also substituted my fries for collard greens. They were delicious, a little sweet but tasty nonetheless. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding. I really enjoyed it but if you're not a fan of nuts I may recommend another item. It's rare, but it's so special when you find a place that makes you feel like your family is in the kitchen. I highly recommend spending an evening here and I will for sure be back. read more

Bonkers delicious! I managed to escape my best girl's relentless prodding to join her for alcohol imbibing and had a mocktail--Gorgeous lavender blueberry drink. Her's was spirited! The collards, shrimp and grits, and corn bread will delight your buds. read more

First time sitting outside and second time visiting the restaurant. We went to an art exhibit on the second floor and the sat outside for drinks. There is a nice, private courtyard in the back that we enjoyed sitting in. The food was great- I like the wings and the sauce that comes with the yuca fries. read more

What a hidden gem! I stopped here on my way to my art class at MICA and I will definitely be back. The place is gorgeous! Several beautiful rooms to choose from and a bar with friendly staff. The peanut butter latte was out of this world! I also got a coffee cake and they heated it for me too! read more
I have been dying to get here! We visited on a Wednesday around midday and it was still a vibe with the perfectly curated music playing in the background. They were still serving breakfast and they also had lunch bites available. We chose a cozy spot by the window while we looked over the menu. We placed our order at the bar. It wasn't too long of a wait before our food was brought over. I enjoyed my breakfast burrito and I tasted my boyfriend's shrimp and grits--delicious. I would have had 7 lavender lemonades if it was free refills!! It was that good! I am looking forward to coming back to try different menu items and even to enjoy the space for various events that are held here. read more
Food, culture and vibes! I arrived at 7:30pm and was able to get a seat for two within five minutes. I took in the decor and vibed a bit to the music while waiting. All the decor is intentional. I felt like I was visiting a relatives well adorned home for a home cooked meal. Seating is cozy and we were seated near the bar. The dinner/bar bites menu is small but we managed to be satiated with a few menu items. 1. Fish balls: 7/10 the flavor was just ok BUT my sister loved them the next day. The coating was nice and crispy. 2. Yucca fries: 10/10 these were amazing and the sauce on the side was a nice. 3. Shrimp Bowl: 8/10 it was different than expected but delicious. The greens and sweet potatoes stole the show. 4. Mocktails: 10/10 both were excellent. The ginger beer option had a kick 5. Apple turn over: 10/10 great flavor w/ a warm and flaky crust. It was so good and topped with vanilla bean ice cream. 6, Chocolate Chip Cookie: warm, oversized with a great texture. This would also be great with ice cream, which you can add for $2. 7. Lemon pepper wings: 10/10 excellent. Crispy,tender and juicy. However, the lemon pepper flavor was understated. They were seasoned well but I did not taste lemon pepper The host shared their event schedule with us and the waiter was kind and attentive. I look forward to going back. $150 for items listed above. I came here thinking it was a posh little cafe, and was delightfully met with a live DJ playing a mix of Baltimore house, Rap, and Afro Funk. Heavy emphasis on the culture here! This place is bumpin'. Felt absolutely silly showing up with a book when patrons were happily dancing around this absolutely gorgeous historical building. Lots of natural lighting with high ceilings, great for grabbing a bite to eat or starting your nightly adventures on the right foot. Both bars are absolutely stunning, decorated with an excellent selection of vinyl records. The staff is extremely kind and well dressed. I had a chicken burrito with collard greens, the abv free mocktail ginger beer, and the Spanish gin & tonic. The burrito was super filling and flavorful, but I think the star of the show was definitely the ginger beer. Served with scotch bonnet bitters, I will be coming back next time I need a drink that truly warms the soul. The Spanish G&T was extremely well made, considering that I am not the biggest fan of fennel. I also appreciate Mama Koko's mindfulness in reducing single use plastics by using metal straws. read more
My friend and I stopped by on Friday since we were close by and checked out the menu but did not order anything but loved the ambiance and music. However on Sunday I went back for breakfast with my girlfriend, I got the Balt' Cro'gel which was amazing & fresh with a iced matcha latte with the flavor toasted marshmallow. My girlfriend got an old fashion which she enjoyed it & smash burger, the burger has sauce that paired well with the burger. I'm really happy that Baltimore has so many chill, upscale, and homestead places like Mamo Kokos. This is where I want to bring my friends when we want to catch up but also enjoy nice bites and drinks. We came in for post lunch drinks and treats. I ordered an affogato and mocktail. The waitress was kind and kept us in the loop when the bar got backed up. We also ordered the warm cookies and it paired well with my affogato!!! Definitely coming back! read more
Don't walk, RUN to this establishment. The food is immaculate the vibes were on 10 every single time. I teleworked from there this week, and the space was so chill, the playlists always have my favorite songs, and the service is so good. I visit Mama Kokos as least once a week! Tried this place for the first time. I had the mango iced tea and it was the perfect amount of refreshing and sweet but not too sweet. I think my only issue was there was too much ice in my drink so I finished my drink faster than I would've wanted to, but I think next time I'll just ask for less ice! I also had an apple turn over and it was so delicious. Service was good and attentive. The ambiance is really chill during the day. My friends and I stopped by after a walk, and we were greeted with amazing energy. The place itself is well decorated and the ambiance in there is so light and fun! We saw some people working on laptops while others sat and talked on the couch. I had a strawberry matcha during happy hour and it was good, I added extra sugar to mine to sweeten it. The staff was helpful and very nice, I would recommend you check this place out. read more

Absolutely love this cafe! I've been at breakfast and in the late afternoon and both times were great. As far as coffee goes, I loved the peanut butter latte and the seasonal sweet potato latte. The breakfast sandwich is a must! Plenty of seating if you want to stay to do work but also a great place to stay and socialize later in the day. Staff is always friendly and I can't wait to return. read more

This spot is a must if you're a matcha or coffee lover! I had the Peach Matcha Latte and it was honestly the best one I've ever had--perfect balance of fruity and creamy without being too sweet . Also tried the Eclipse Latte (such a vibe!) and it was just as good--smooth, bold, and super unique. The service was so kind and welcoming--it made the whole experience even better. Looking for a place that's chill and has immaculate vibes? Mama Koko's is the place. From group gatherings to solo work sessions, Mama Koko's has space for everyone. While here I sipped on the Boom Selecta. So deelish. A cocktail consisting of tequila, Campari, lime and cava. Want some bites? By day and by night they have different menus. But in my opinion you can't go wrong with the wings and smoked collard greens. Service was fast and courteous. Definitely coming back to try the lunch menu! SYOY! read more
Went for drinks and appetizers on a Saturday night with a large group - the vibes were very good. We got the wing and plantains which were delishhhh. They were very accommodating with our big group - while we didn't get a table big enough, everyone kind of stood around the bar and hung out. Warning - Their house dirty martini definitely tastes like salad dressing because they add so much onion juice. So tread lightly with that one. The vibez here are amazing . Visited on a Saturday for brunch and didn't know there was an event. The food and drinks were very interesting and very very good. Nicely presented. There was an ash, art installation and vendors upstairs. Walked around and discovered that there was a back porch AND an extensive outdoor space that was beautiful and almost meditative. Tiny one stall bathroom that was super cute. Can't wait to return. There are eye delights on nearly every wall and nook and cranny and then Mama Koko even breezed through. Loved it. read more
I really can't overstate how incredible the cocktails are here. I recently had the Palm Trees and Coastin' and was soo impressed. My friend got the Mai Thai which is a clarified Mai Thai and it was amazing! Do not sleep on this place! read more
Had such a nice time here ! The ambiance is a vibe and it gives speakeasy. Everything tasted so yummy but it seemed a bit pricey, the bill came up to $200. But it was so yummy and the art was so nice. They also have galleries upstairs. Ariel was great, he deserves all the vacations to europe :) the service was great. The owner will also walk around and join the crowd. It was also crowded. read more
Our first stop on a night of revelry. We only got 1 each because we didn't want to get drunk too soon. Very beautiful space with lots of windows, natural light and plants. Mama Koko came and said hi to everyone and gosh is she enigmatic. Loved her sense of style! Beautiful cocktails, would love to visit again soon. read more
