Where do I start?! Everyone was soooo nice, welcoming and warm. The drinks were tasty and the bar bites went off! That salmon dip? Don't question it... just do it! It's very spacious. They have high tops in the bar area, a more formal dining area and outdoor seating. Fun fact: you can bring you laptop but you have to close it after a certain time. 5 p.m from what I recall. I love it! It helps with balance and it allows you and others to enjoy the transition to the evening vibes. My new favorite place in Baltimore.
Had a late night dinner at Mama Koko's with my friend to celebrate my bday. We were promptly seated. I loved the aesthetic of the place. They took an old mansion and turned it in to a restaurant. They kept the integrity of the building so it had that old school vibe. Art hanging everywhere, high top tables, low tables and banquette seating too. The bartender Ari was our server. He made some recommendations and gave us time to review the menu. I took his recommendation for my drink. He made me the Sound System which was actually his first featured drink on the menu. I would describe it as a sophisticated rum punch. Ari knows what he is doing behind the bar. It was very tasty. For my entree I wanted the red snapper but they only had branzino. So I got the fried branzino topped with peppered slaw, coconut rice and red beans and an order of fried sweet plantains. The fish and rice with the peppered slaw was amazing. I didn't love the beans and the plantain was a bit on the burned side. Overall good experience. Ari even gave us a complimentary shot to toast my bday which I thought was a nice touch. You should definitely check Mama Kokos out.
I've had this place on my list of places to go for quite some time now and Mama Koko's was everything I thought it would be. I was there for the later night crowd that consist of dancing and good ole carrying own, but I has an amazing time. I had a shrimp bowl that had of course shrimps, black beans, collard greens and rice and omg... it was so delicious. The drinks were amazing as well. Now the voices, it feels like going to your Aunties house, relaxing in the living room while she cooks dinner, while thee best food aroma comes from the kitchen. The arrangement of furniture and the hospitality makes u feel at home .
What a great experience. Definitely a hidden gem. Unfortunately, I did not try their food. But the vibes were great. They were playing R&B music which I loved. Its hard to describe what type of establishment this was. It was kind of like a cafe but also a restaurant and bar. When we walked in we first noticed the beautiful artwork on the walls and the old infrastructure. I think the building was an old house. The artwork was African American inspired. The service was impeccable. The barista/ bar tender was very nice and easy going. He gave us some time to look at the menu. We ordered the old fashioned which was delicious. They had so many cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. Overall, it was a great experience. If you are in the area please check out Mama KoKo's you will not be disappointed! Cheers!
Was dilly-dallying around Baltimore and heard music coming from the windows, which immediately caught my attention. Intrigued, I decided to stop into Mama Koko. There were many studios within the establishment, and it just so happened that there was a pop-up event happening that day. I learned these events take place every second Saturday, and this one was extra special since it landed on Mother's Day weekend. My favorite studio was the perfume studio. The scents literally lured me through the door. While I was there, more and more people started arriving for the brunch rush, which showed just how popular this spot is. The strawberry iced matcha was delicious! I loved the setup, the atmosphere, and the overall experience. I'll definitely be returning.
I'd heard good things about Mama Koko's, so decided to visit. I wasn't expecting the venue to be part of a larger building, but was still charmed by the open space with antique moldings and finishes. Mama Koko's itself is a large, open space with open seating. You order up front then seat yourself. This concept wasn't immediately clear to me, so I asked an employee for help. I went with a bowl, it was delicious. And I sat and ate in some really cool ambiance. I was solo, but find Mama Koko's seems better for groups.
I love Mama Koko's! Settled on the first floor of the historic Hooper house, Mama Koko's just has a particular charm that makes you feel right at home. There is an art gallery, AYE gallery and altar studio, right above the cafe that always has an amazing exhibit on display as well as several other businesses in the building including tailors, candle/perfumery shop and so much more. The food is delicious and I recommend the salmon crogel or smashburger but you cannot go wrong with one of their signs cocktails. High traffic on Friday and Saturday nights and some special events on the occasional Saturday Morning
Cannot say enough good things about this spot! When my group of *15* decided we wanted to head to late night drinks, the staff at Mama Koko's could not have been more inviting (despite their initial look of trepidation, they were great sports about us inundating them and offered us spots at the bar!) The on tap cocktails made service super quick, and the bartender was so kind. The Chula Vista is one of my new fav drinks in the city! Thanks for the hospitality and amazing drinks, Mama Koko's!
Well Well Welll !! My niece loves this place!! I finally tried and I absolutely understand why my niece loves it!! It's super easy to locate this establishment, plenty of street parking, a huge vibe!! The décor was so chill, relaxing, and comfy. I met a friend there before a show nearby. We sat at the back bar. We were greeted and assisted by Cierra. She was GREAT! She answered all of my questions regarding food and beverages. Watching her make beverages was so cool!! Poetry in motion. I swear we watched her make at least 10-15 beverages in 30 minutes. Well, it sure felt like it. They were all so pretty. Collectively, we ordered the following. Smoked Collard Greens - Good Roasted Sweet Potatoes- Great. Well seasoned. Wings: Rum Buttered Buffalo - Flavorful, tender. Liberian Meatballs - Yum! Saucy, Spicy. Lionheart (Mocktail) - VERY refreshing. Delish. Fashion Killa - Interesting beverage. Great beverage!! Koko's Ginger Beer - A popular menu item !! My friend loved it. Loved it a lot. Everything came out pretty quickly. I can't wait to visit again to try more food and beverage items.
Such a big beautiful space! Friendly service at the coffee bar and the caramel macchiato was made perfectly. Will definitely return again to check out the businesses on the 2nd floor!!
I stopped by Mama Koko's on a Thursday afternoon around 5pm for a quick cocktail. I found street parking easily, but there was also available parking in their lot on Saint Paul street. I was told to seat myself and there was a good amount of open seating available between the bar, two person tables around the bar, and the couches + tables on the first floor. I chose a seat at the bar and ordered at boozy Madvillain cocktail. It was delightful and not too sweet, but strong. I was told you can't use laptops at the bar, so be mindful of that if you are intending to get caught up on work like I was. I'm not sure why laptops are not allowed but it definitely encouraged me to be more present and social which is always a good thing.
I like this Black owned place, but I had to remove a star due to over priced food items and portion size plus the service. 3 sides $31.50, no meat, no drink, nothing else. Btw service is just okay, same as my previous visit. This time I ate outdoor. Although they bring the food to your table after you order at the bar, they do not return. I had to move our plates to an empty table just to clear it. Late night menu: I ordered the vegan bowl. The yams and greens were really good. The rest of the bowl items were okay. I also ordered fried plantains, which were basic, but decent nothing special... The beans were seasoned well and shockingly good, the rice was just plain white rice... Vibe 5 stars... indoor and outdoor seating It appears to be an every age group type of environment. No tvs, forcing everyone to socialize which was cool... the only down side is the music is too loud to actually hold conversations inside when there is a DJ. Street parking is available.
Mama Koko's is definitely still a vibe! Just be mindful of the different timings of their various menus. There is a breakfast/lunch menu, a separate happy hour menu, and then a late night evening menu. There is some cross over, but you could very well go thinking you can get a certain thing and it will not be available. Table service is available after 5pm, order at the counter before then.

Had such a nice time here ! The ambiance is a vibe and it gives speakeasy. Everything tasted so yummy but it seemed a bit pricey, the bill came up to $200. But it was so yummy and the art was so nice. They also have galleries upstairs. Ariel was great, he deserves all the vacations to europe :) the service was great. The owner will also walk around and join the crowd. It was also crowded. read more
Our first stop on a night of revelry. We only got 1 each because we didn't want to get drunk too soon. Very beautiful space with lots of windows, natural light and plants. Mama Koko came and said hi to everyone and gosh is she enigmatic. Loved her sense of style! Beautiful cocktails, would love to visit again soon. read more

I popped into Mama Koko's for a to-go drink, and really wished I was able to stay for more. The space is absolutely lovely! I decided to go for a matcha, and they had several options that sounded delicious including peach, coconut cloud, and lemonade. The batista was super nice and helped me decide on the peach. It was 10/10! I got a small and instantly regretted not going for the larger size. While I waited I walked around and took in the beautifully curated space. Very chill, spot to check out on a Saturday afternoon when you just want a cocktail or coffee. Before 5 PM you order at the bar and the kitchen brings your order to your table. The ginger beer is phenomenal, perfectly blended amounts of everything. The lemon pound cake was fresh and moist. The mango iced tea was perfection. When I first walked in here in July of '24, I almost cried. I don't know how to fully explain it but the energy, the aesthetic, the vibes and the space just spoke to me on a deeper level than I can fully elaborate on. The menu is crafted where there is something for everyone. The smoothies, food and cocktails are made freshly in-house with real and unique ingredients . It's feels so right to be in this space. I even visited during the night time to get a feel of what it felt like and it felt so good! Music was on point, customer service was immaculate. Tassia served me and she was so warm and nice! The cafe is beyond cute for a quiet remote work day or a simple dinner date. It was quiet enough to have a conversation but perfect temp of music where you don't feel like people can hear your conversation. The service was great everyone made sure to check in it's not a one server show love the team work. The star of the show is the food the collard greens were THEE bets collard greens I've had outside of my grannies! I will definitely make this my regular spot. read more

Loved Mama Koko's! We decided to celebrate a friend's late birthday here and boy did we have a time! The music was on point. The customer service top notch and the drinks were nice and strong. This was our first time here and we will be sure to revisit for another girls night out! read more
My family and I visited Mama Koko's for brunch to celebrate my daughter's graduation. I've been here before for dinner, but this was my first brunch experience...and it was definitely a bit different. There's no table service during brunch, so you place your order at the counter and seat yourself. Seating inside was limited, so we ended up enjoying our meal in the courtyard, which turned out to be a nice, relaxed setting. The staff, as always, were super friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Breaki, which was delicious. My aunt tried the shrimp and grits...she said it was just okay. The rest of our group (my mom, daughter, and niece) had the burger, and everyone really enjoyed it. My niece added an egg to hers and loved it! The only real miss was the Strawberry Matcha. Unfortunately, I couldn't taste any matcha, just oat milk. I love Matcha so that was disappointing. Overall, though, we had a great time celebrating my baby girl and enjoying some good food. You wanna talk about a place with good vibes, great food and amazing service? This is the place for all 3, hands down. I spent hours in the location working on some personal projects, reading and connecting after I ate. The salad was a hit & the matcha was delicious with 2 shots of espresso. I've had Mama Koko's on my radar for a while now. I used to drive past this building all the time and admire it and I'm so excited that something like Mama Koko's is finally in the space. They really kept a lot of the historic integrity of the building. The inside is absolutely stunning with original hardwood floors, banister, and light fixtures. They did a great job blending the old with the new. The menu is a good size with a few different options like yogurt and granola bowls, sandwiches, and other breakfast items. I asked about whether the granola was gluten free and the person at the counter gave me a bit of a flippant response saying, "I don't know anything about it other than it's granola". It was odd and made be feel sort of embarrassed for asking the question. They then offered to ask the chef but it seemed like I was inconveniencing them with this extra step. It turns out the granola is not gluten free so I went with the breakfast stack and the caramel macchiato with oat milk. The macchiato was delicious! If you like sweet specialty coffees, this is the cup for you. The breakfast stack was also pretty good and consisted of two hash browns, a fried egg, avocado and turkey bacon with a honey mustard type sauce drizzled on top. It was filling and tasty but nothing to write home about. The wifi was free and strong the entire time I worked from here. The place is surprisingly large with couches, cafe tables, and even a back bar. I also loved the playlist they had going. It was a vibe! I trust that as Mama Koko's becomes more seasoned, the staff will learn more about the menu including allergens - it would be nice to add dietary restriction notes to the menu as well. Mama Koko's has the best craft cocktail program in Baltimore! Whether you're a cocktail aficionado or new to the game, the drinks will not disappoint. The service is incredible! The bar team is so kind and looks after their customers well. There is always great music playing and such a community within the space. I mainly come for drinks in the evening but everyone seems to enjoy the morning cafe as well! This black-owned business is definitely a spot worth visiting! read more
It takes a special place to make you feel as though you've been welcomed into someone's home to sit down in their living room and take a deep breath for the first time in a while. Mama Koko's is one such place and I have nothing but admiration and congratulations for the Mama Koko's team in achieving something so rare and genuine! From the second you walk into the door of this historic home turned cozy cafe, you feel immediately at ease. The staff is warm, welcoming and attentive from top to bottom, start to finish. The atmosphere has a palpable energy but not in a loud and bustling way. Rather, you're sucked into a space just as ideal for a casual catch up with friends as it is for work, with just the right noise level so as not to fracture focus. The menu is breakfast-forward until 11:30am when it switches to lunch. You place your order at the counter and are given a number to place at your seat. Drinks and food are delivered to you table side by staff that seems as genuinely happy to work there as you feel being a customer. I ordered an oat milk latte which came in a "straight out of your home cabinet" kind of mug, adding to the intimate setting. The Berry Acai bowl was fantastic! Fresh, amply portioned and the perfect refreshing bite while caffeinating. Mama Koko's feels like the city's best kept secret at the moment, but I'm sure that it won't be for long! I absolutely love this place!!! There's a piece of history and a story in every corner. The customer service was great and the food was AMAZING!!! And the atmosphere...simply stunning!!! When I tell you, you will feel like you are at home at Mama Koko's, there are not to many places that give you that warm fuzzy feeling as soon as you walk in. They have turned this historic home into a cozy cafe. The atmosphere has such a chill vibe, you can come and do some work, you can post up for happy hour and unwind with friends. Stopped in for breakfast yesterday and since it was a slight chill in the air, I was hankering for a nice hot latte and warm breakfast sandwich. The peanut butter latte with oat milk was heaven in a mug. And I tried their egg and cheese with turkey bacon on toasted sourdough bread. Best breakfast sandwich I had in a long time. The next time I want to try the Baltimore Cro'gel, I heard good things about that sandwich. Since I live two blocks away, I am definitely posting up for happy hour, they always have a nice crowd in there. Mama Koko's is a wonderful addition to the 23rd street corridor and I am so glad they are in the neighborhood. They have been a best kept secret, but I really do not see that being a secret for long. 3 to be honest, nice space. I sat at the bar. Let me highlight the positives, drinks were excellent definitely going there again . Tania was nice, however the initial interaction with another hostess at the bar area was kinda short and abrupt. It caught my attention and not in a good way. Someone even threw a menu at me lol, not sure who did. I have gone to a bazillion places in my lifetime and that was a first. Food, I just ordered the wings, rum buffalo or somin flavored. They just were not my cup of tea, even one wing was cold how the hell does that even happen. I didn't finish it. Someone asked how they were, expressed that one wing was cold. Was that taking off the menu nah. I will pop in for a quick breakfast to see how that is hitting for. Breakfast the sandwich was good. Meatballs meh came out suspiciously fast, burger didnt even finish it, that also came out suspiciously fast. Go for the drinks and ambiance, personally i am passing on the food. read more
After anxiously waiting to visit Mama Kokos, I had the opportunity during a recent girls' night out to do so. And I'm thankful the owners have shared this beautiful space with us here in Baltimore. When you walk into Mama Kokos, you immediately feel all the creative energy that fills the building. A simple yet modern approach to the decor, with a comforting touch of spending time with your family at your grandparents' house. My party visited Mama Kokos during their evening service, which was nice. The staff was tentative and tended to all our needs. Their menu is more of a tapas style with various sharable plates that are more appetizer geared. We ordered just about everything, since the menu is small, but it was all delicious. The smoked collard greens were seasoned well and tasty. We ordered 2 of the plantain chips and bean dip cause that was an unexpected winner. And the red snapper balls were so good, a definite must try. They just need a sauce for dipping. The cocktails were also point. I'm happy that Baltimore has a space where the energy is positive, the atmosphere is a vibe, the patrons have beautiful spirits, and the food keeps you coming back. read more

I finally made it! Went on my birthday the other day and the ambiance was breathtaking. I got to meet the owner herself which is rare for them to float around amongst their "patrons" so to speak but Mama Koko was IN there and loving on us! The bartenders, knowledgeable. The food, absolutely amazing. We even got complimentary champagne and CAKE You NEED this experience. read more

The staff was so sweet and so kind and it's a very relaxing establishment to sit and work from home at or have a meeting with a coworker and a nice setting. First timer. This place is very quaint and charming. Baltimore charm at its finest. The staff is very friendly and service was great! Drinks were ah-mazing!! Ok so I walked into this big ole house filled to the brim with charm and draftiness. There was plenty of seating when we walked in which of course I appreciated. We ordered a round of drinks from an ever so charismatic bartender. I didn't love my drink but it was creative which I would give an A for effort. The lights are a bit too dim in my opinion. It's giving speak easy but I went on the light night tip. I'll have to revisit during the day to get access to the whole menu. Overall, at night, it's definitely a stop in and have a quick bite/drink type of spot. I'll add it to my list for sure. The food was pretty tasty. I didn't want to secretly lick the bowl when no one was looking but I wasn't mad if that makes sense. The greens were just enough flavor and not too salty. The meatballs were good with the tomato back drop but I'm more of a barbecue sauce meatball unwed baby shower type of chic. Lastly, the beans and rice were not quite New Orleans good but were not bad either. Overall, I would eat the food again, but it's not gonna be in my dreams. The apple turnover had a sweetness to the crust that was little too sweet for me, but the warm apples in the middle and the ice cream were perfection. read more

This seems like a fairly new establishment, so definitely a hidden gem! Staff are consistent, friendly and overall awesome. Food was so good! And the drinks are out of this world!! I came in with a large party in the evening to celebrate my graduation with 8 people originally, but more people came in than I thought! But the staff were accommodating to our 12 person party. My friends loved their meals, especially the greens and Liberian meatballs, along with their drinks. I don't drink alcohol so I had the ginger beer -- so happy that it was fresh ginger used! I also had a dessert. Will be going back with an intimate group and also for breakfast/lunch. read more
