I'm obsessed with the duck entree, served with a delicious risotto, roasted carrots and goat cheese balls...it's one of my favorite duck dishes in the city, but everything I've tried, both app and entrees, are delicious. There's a server who's been a little surly since I dummy love that but overall, service is fine, cocktails are curated well (and they're happy to suggest something you'd like or make something up, which I love) and it's cozy and a good visit. The 1920s decor and intimate lighting is so romantic. We were celebrating our 4 month hot and heavy anniversary. Not sure if we will make it to Christmas but tonight we CELEBRATE . The prices were "pricing" . $17 for veggies as a side is meh but I guess it comes with the view . The menu is beautiful but we just settled for crab dip and the freshest pretzel bites I ever had. It came out fast and super hot Pretzels were hot too . I noticed everyone else enjoying their meals and kissing at the table. No complaints. Clean silverware Clean bathroom But I miss those BYGONE paper towels . I had an espresso martini with grey goose and it was better than the ELK ROOM espresso martini I had with polish vodka. Bygone puts more effort into presentation with food and drinks . Which makes the prices understandable. Kitchen closes at 12 midnight . The yogurt parfait was light and fresh and had a great mix of fruit, honey, and granola, while the breakfast sandwich was executed perfectly, with super sagey, almost gamey sausage. What went well: Though there was only one waiter who also was serving as the bartender, the service was quite good. She checked on us a few times and kept us informed. What missed the mark: Food: Though there was only a few people in the establishment, it took over 45mins for us to get out appetizers which were shrimp cocktail and spinach artichoke dip. While they tasted good seems like a long time to wait for these ideas. When our 2nd course came out, they were both cold. We both ordered the beef short rib with mash potatoes and carrots. The mash potatoes and carrots were literally cold with the beef short rib being lukewarm. At this point we asked if they could just wrap it up for us to take home as we had been there 1.5hrs at this time. I will say when I got it home and warmed it up it was quite good. Lastly for food they missed the mark as they kept running out due to delivery/pickup options we were told. Seems crazy to me to keep filling takeout orders if you already offered it to those sitting in the restaurant but hey. Not sure we will be back but we may give it another try since the food at least did have a good taste.

We had such an amazing time eating and talking the with staff, that we took very few photos. The bartender/server/comedian/all around cool human, Symphony, was AMAZING!!! The Owner, Monica, came over and talked to us. We told her that we drove in from DC, just to be there that evening. I had a smoky Bourbon Bloom, the truffle frites and cognac wings-delish! My two sisters had the restaurant week specials that came with a meat, two sides and dessert; they both cleaned their plates. This never happens! There was nothing left on the plates or in the glasses! 50/10!!! The whole situation was just a really cool vibe! We will CERTAINLY return! 3 entrees, 3 drinks, 1 soda around 188$ with 18% gratuity included. Let me just double say, these wings alone are worth a return trip! I have NEVER had wings that tasted like those. But that team, the team is TOP TIER! Sooooo good!

The Hype Is Absolutely Deserved!…read more Clavel is a highly acclaimed, family-run mezcaleria and taqueria in Baltimore -- and after finally visiting, I completely understand the hype! First things first: they don't take reservations, so plan accordingly! We arrived around 5:45 p.m. and were quoted a 45-minute wait. Apparently, if you arrive after 5:45, you should be prepared to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Thankfully, around 6 p.m., a few people got up from their seats at the bar and we QUICKLY grabbed them. Crisis averted! We started with the Mezcalita with cilantro honey, which came highly recommended by the bartender. It was SO delicious -- the perfect balance of sweet and spice without either overpowering the other. For my second drink, I switched to the Suero, made with El Buho Mezcal Espadin, green mango, lemon, agua mineral, and Himalayan pink salt. It was completely different from the Mezcalita -- super refreshing, crisp, and not sweet at all. Both were excellent! Then came the food. We started with the Queso Fundido -- bubbling hot queso Chihuahua with guacamole and frijoles y totopos. I mean...you really can't go wrong with bubbling cheese. For our tacos, my friend went all in on the mushroom tacos while I decided variety was the move. I ordered: Barbacoa de Borrego -- house-butchered lamb and beef shank cooked with Mexican coffee, Negra Modelo, and spices. El Luchador -- lightly battered cod with house-pickled cabbage slaw, habanero crema, and cilantro. Al Gobernador -- wild-caught Pacific shrimp in salsa Anaheim with melted queso Chihuahua and pico de gallo. All three were delicious, but I loved being able to try such different flavors and textures in one meal. The ingredients tasted fresh, everything was flavorful, and you can tell there's real thought and care behind the menu. The restaurant itself is also deceiving! From the outside, Clavel looks fairly small, but once you're inside, it's anything but. There are so many little twists, turns, rooms, and tucked-away spaces -- and somehow every single one of them was packed. I also loved the rustic, traditional Mexican-inspired décor. It feels warm, lively, and authentic without trying too hard. And the service matched the food! Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful, and our bartender's cocktail recommendation was spot-on. From the drinks to the tacos to the atmosphere and service, everything was superb. Clavel absolutely lived up to its reputation, and I already can't wait to go back -- I'll just be getting there BEFORE 5:45 next time.
