Somehow, I got lucky and managed to find this friendly, cute, rough-around-the-edges kind of small town diner known for their great breakfasts, in the middle of nowhere. The only reason it caught my eye was because our tax preparer was just down the street. It was obviously well loved by the locals after reading their great reviews and seeing a full parking lot. And this was on a Wednesday. We only had time for a quick bite, ordering nothing out of the ordinary. A quickie breakfast of sausage, scrambled eggs, and pancake, were all we had, but everything was nicely done. The pancake was big, light and airy, served with a carafe of warm syrup and a huge scoop of butter. The scrambled eggs were moist and fluffy, the sausage was basically a Farmer John sausage patty that was properly warmed but not overcooked, and very good tasting. My only criticism was the coffee being too thin for my liking, but keeping our coffee mugs filled was something they definitely did well! The service was wonderful. They knew we were in a rush, and handled us with TLC the entire 35 minutes we had. What I do know is, I will be looking forward to our next tax appointment, hah, knowing our morning will start off right here. Found out about this place from people comparing Clarkie's to Carolyn's Cafe. Not going to lie, coffee cake was really really good here. Honestly can't go wrong at either spot. I had the country fried steak and I have to give it a strong 9/10. Perfectly cooked and gravy was also just as tasty. Potatoes were a little bland and needed some seasoning. Wow Wow Wow. This place is amazing! A special homey American diner with a big list of breakfast goods. I ordered their scrambled eggs, bacon, and breakfast potatoes, all delicious. I also had to try their infamous cinnamon streusel muffin, and oh my goodness, I transcended into food heaven! It is so fresh and fluffy, baked from scratch, and they also top it off with hot butter which melts perfectly on top for a perfect mixture of sweet and salty. I would not skip on that part as I feel it really lets you get the whole muffin experience. It's so tasty it doesn't need it. I loved the Breakfast Sandwich. The over medium eggs had a perfect cook, the bacon is thick and the roll is soft. Sooo tasty and not too big. I want it again! This small home style diner was extremely busy when we arrived, and parking was very limited but the food made it completely worth it. My favorite item was the cinnamon streusel muffin, served warm with butter melting on top. It honestly tasted like heaven. Despite how packed the place was, the service was outstanding. I came in on a busy Sunday morning after first trying La Mexicana - I sat at the counter for 10 minutes without anyone coming. So I back tracked to Clarkies (my husband has been here with work buddies and said its worth it). I was greeted by a couple friendly faces and was immediately taken to a table. I was a little surprised since it was Sunday a.m. and the place was packed. My waitress Kim was super attentive as was others (I was asked several times if I needed more coffee or water). I ordered the chile Verde breakfast burrito. It was the best I have ever had!! It had chile Verde sauce on top with cheese, the sauce was so good I got some to go. Love Clarkies! Decided to come here after camping at the regional park and they did not disappoint. There were 19 of us in our group but we didn't have to wait long to get seated. Service was top notch and everyone was super friendly. Our food came out quickly and hot. Went to brunch here and enjoyed my food very much. Only downside was the service. While our server was nice, she wasn't very attentive and all the other servers seemed to avoid me and my family outright. They asked my dad over and over again if he wanted more iced tea but ignored my mom, my aunt, and myself. I had my coffee refilled once. I can forgive it though as the food was absolutely delicious and we got our food in a very timely manner. I was in Yucaipa on business and was looking for a diner to have breakfast. I was referred to this place by the hotel receptionist. This place was Amazing! It doesn't look like much from the outside but once you enter, it has that country style home feel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was excellent! I recommend the avocado toast with eggs over easy and a side of country potatoes. The portions are huge and the pricing is reasonable. Clarkies used to be a treat not anymore. The last time we went in there at breakfast we were shocked that more than half the tables were empty. Opening the menu kinda gave us a clue. Prices had been jacked up quite a bit. The prices were about the same as the ridiculous tourist prices in Waikiki Hawaii for simple dishes like eggs, bacon and potatoes. When the food arrived we were even more shocked that the portions were significantly reduced. The pancake no longer covered the plate, the cinnamon roll was much smaller than it had always been. The serving size of the potatoes was noticeably smaller. It now became rather obvious why the place was empty when before it was literally jammed packed. I mean, really, who wants to spend hard earned money on simple breakfast when the prices are overpriced and the portion size reduced? You can literally stay home at half the cost. It's almost as if Clarkies is entering the death spiral. No customers results in less money leading to a failed business. Oh, well. They brought this on themselves. When you notice most of your tables empty you might want to ask yourself what the problem might be. read more
