Somehow, I got lucky and managed to find this friendly, cute, rough-around-the-edges kind of small town diner known for their great breakfasts, in the middle of nowhere. The only reason it caught my eye was because our tax preparer was just down the street. It was obviously well loved by the locals after reading their great reviews and seeing a full parking lot. And this was on a Wednesday. We only had time for a quick bite, ordering nothing out of the ordinary. A quickie breakfast of sausage, scrambled eggs, and pancake, were all we had, but everything was nicely done. The pancake was big, light and airy, served with a carafe of warm syrup and a huge scoop of butter. The scrambled eggs were moist and fluffy, the sausage was basically a Farmer John sausage patty that was properly warmed but not overcooked, and very good tasting. My only criticism was the coffee being too thin for my liking, but keeping our coffee mugs filled was something they definitely did well! The service was wonderful. They knew we were in a rush, and handled us with TLC the entire 35 minutes we had. What I do know is, I will be looking forward to our next tax appointment, hah, knowing our morning will start off right here. Found out about this place from people comparing Clarkie's to Carolyn's Cafe. Not going to lie, coffee cake was really really good here. Honestly can't go wrong at either spot. I had the country fried steak and I have to give it a strong 9/10. Perfectly cooked and gravy was also just as tasty. Potatoes were a little bland and needed some seasoning. Love Clarkies! Decided to come here after camping at the regional park and they did not disappoint. There were 19 of us in our group but we didn't have to wait long to get seated. It's so tasty it doesn't need it. I loved the Breakfast Sandwich. The over medium eggs had a perfect cook, the bacon is thick and the roll is soft. Sooo tasty and not too big. I want it again! My hubby had the Bacon & Egg combo. He said it was all good except the potatoes were flavorless and needed salt and seasoning. Mom had the biscuits & gravy with two eggs. They have good gravy. This small home style diner was extremely busy when we arrived, and parking was very limited but the food made it completely worth it. My favorite item was the cinnamon streusel muffin, served warm with butter melting on top. It honestly tasted like heaven. Despite how packed the place was, the service was outstanding. While our server was nice, she wasn't very attentive and all the other servers seemed to avoid me and my family outright. Clarkies used to be a treat not anymore. The last time we went in there at breakfast we were shocked that more than half the tables were empty. Opening the menu kinda gave us a clue. Prices had been jacked up quite a bit. The prices were about the same as the ridiculous tourist prices in Waikiki Hawaii for simple dishes like eggs, bacon and potatoes. When the food arrived we were even more shocked that the portions were significantly reduced. The pancake no longer covered the plate, the cinnamon roll was much smaller than it had always been. The serving size of the potatoes was noticeably smaller. It now became rather obvious why the place was empty when before it was literally jammed packed. I mean, really, who wants to spend hard earned money on simple breakfast when the prices are overpriced and the portion size reduced? You can literally stay home at half the cost. It's almost as if Clarkies is entering the death spiral. No customers results in less money leading to a failed business. Oh, well. They brought this on themselves. I was in Yucaipa on business and was looking for a diner to have breakfast. I was referred to this place by the hotel receptionist. This place was Amazing! It doesn't look like much from the outside but once you enter, it has that country style home feel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was excellent! I recommend the avocado toast with eggs over easy and a side of country potatoes. The portions are huge and the pricing is reasonable. I usually get the same thing here. Occasionally I will order something French toast or an omelette or scramble. All of their food here has been really good in my experience. Typically speaking, you are seated quickly (except at their busiest times of course). I haven't noticed a whole lot of turnover in staff which is a good sign. You usually get your food quickly. The orange juice doesn't taste like it comes from concentrate, it's very fresh. The portions are very large (in the picture I posted, there is the smallest biscuits and gravy they serve).
