Perfect breakfast spot before a trip to the Grand Canyon! We arrived at 8:00 AM and had a great experience. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious, especially the country fried steak and potatoes. My son also gave the Nutella crepes two thumbs up! A little pricey, but definitely worth a stop.

Walking up to Sammy's feels like stepping back in time. Greeted at the front door by a life-sized Big Boy statue (see my pic), you immediately get the sense that this place is a true throwback to old-school Americana. Inside, the vibe is that of a traditional, straight-up diner--no frills, just comfort. Sammy's delivers exactly what you'd expect: honest, unpretentious food in a casual, welcoming setting. The menu is impressively large--there's something for everyone, whether you're in the mood for breakfast, burgers, or classic sandwiches. I've included a few pics of the menu pages, but there's a lot more where that came from. I went with breakfast: three eggs, hash browns, and sausage patties (see my pic). The food came out quickly, and everything was hot and well-prepared. The eggs were cooked just right, the hash browns had that golden crisp, and the sausage was hearty and flavorful--nothing fancy, just good, solid diner food. My wife opted for lunch and ordered a half Cobb salad, which you can also see in my pic. The ingredients were crisp, and the salad was exactly what she wanted--simple, tasty, and satisfying. Service was efficient and friendly, matching the easygoing feel of the place.

What a great find along the way to and from Palm Springs off I-10. I love old style American diners, and this new restaurant captures the fun with bright decor and lots of booths. We sat by the windows in the atrium section. The menu is huge as are the servings so we had a hard time choosing with so many favorites offered. My husband I congratulated ourselves for our choices. My egg sandwich with cheese was perfectly grilled and served with perfect hash browns. His turkey sandwich was made with real roasted turkey and nicely grilled on the same delicious bread as mine. Service was prompt and friendly. We have added this place to our must-stop list.

Sammy's Cafe is a family run and family oriented restaurant that occupies an old "Bob's Bigboy" off the 10 fwy. The staff are friendly and helpful. Very attentive. The menu is huge! Lots of selection. Everything we had was well prepared and presented as well as delicious. The prices were very reasonable as well.

Definitely recommend this place! We've been here a couple of times and the customer service is always on point. The restaurant is super clean, which I really appreciate. I'm usually a little skeptical about spots that use the same setup from back in the day, but here you can tell they keep everything fresh and well-maintained. The food is good, and I really like that they offer a buffet on the weekends. This place definitely deserves 5 stars! You can see the owner is putting in the effort to earn business, and I respect that.

Today's is Mother's Day and my husband took me here to eat. Sorry to say the food was not edible I order crepes and they were the worst i have ever seen to be serve. The waiter thought is was funny when I brought it to his attention, he did not bring syrup or butter poor service. The place was clean and spacious family place.

Friendly service, good breakfasts and the turkey melt was tasty. Clean and nostalgic spot on the road.

Great service, food was good. I got the breakfast burrito which was a good size and my wife got French toast that she enjoyed as well. Will definitely be coming back

Chile relleno and tamal. Tamal was so much masa! It was also dry. Chile relleno was tasty.

A few weeks ago, I drove by and saw a sign that heralded a return of a restaurant to the space formerly housing a Bob's Big Boy. I was surprised to see the Big Boy statue still in the parking. (I was even more surprised that it was unscathed, not tagged up or vandalized!) I stopped today for a late lunch. I had read about people complaining about service. I did not encounter that at all. I was greeted right away and led to a booth. She came back shortly to ask if I would be more comfortable at a different table. I very much appreciated that offer. She checked on me frequently, but not obtrusively. There were maybe 10 tables, when I came in, which is a good sign for a late afternoon lunch. The menu is enormous. There is a mix of typical American diner food, like meatloaf, sandwiches, salads, but there are also multiple Mexican offerings. I asked for an iced tea. I got my tea, plus a basket of freshly-made tortilla chips and a small bowl of a watery salsa. The salsa wasn't as chunky as I like, but it had a good savory flavor, not hot. I opted for a combination with a tamal and a chile relleno. I was brought an enormous plate with an enormous tamal. Sadly, the tamal was mostly masa, with a little bit of dry shredded pork. I liked the sauce that was served over the tamal, but it didn't add much moisture, so I used the leftover table salsa. The chile relleno was much better. It had a large amount of Monterey jack cheese and a fluffy egg exterior. A ranchero sauce covered it. The rice was super moist, but didn't have much flavor. I liked the refried beans, but they could have used just a touch more salt and a little more fat, preferably lard or bacon grease. I left satisfied. I want to try some of the diner food. Much of the interior decorations and seating is original to the Bob's franchise.

So I have been wanting to try this place since it opened last month. I have been to the other Sammy's and they were great places. This place isn't like the others.. The parking lot was full so it must be great.. When you walk in - it's like a pop up restaurant as they just covered the walls quickly to try to give a new identity, but left all the Bobs Big Boy art on the wall.. (Was a former Bobs Big Boy Restaurant) The food looked good on the menu. The wait to order was a bit of a wait. Once we ordered it took almost 45 minutes to the food to arrive.. The food was ok (4 out of 10) being generous.. The server didn't come back except to slide the check on the table.. People were chasing servers to get more coffee.. I rarely ever give low ratings, but this experience... I won't be back.. You were warned.. lol

The bread, the sesame seeds, the sauces they use, the meat -- everything just worked together perfectly. It had everything I didn't even know I wanted in a Muffuletta. Every bite was either taking my breath away or draining all my energy because I had to stop and process how good it was. Either way, I kept staring at my sandwich in disbelief that I traveled all the way to NOLA for Muffulettas only to realize the best one was closer to home this whole time. Boy, am I lucky. Since it was my first visit, they also gave me a slice of their passion fruit pie to try. The flavor was great -- nice and tart, slightly sour, and the crust was baked perfectly. It just wasn't really for me since I'm not much of a pie person to begin with. But I ended up ordering a whole pie to take home because I knew my mom would love it, and I was absolutely right. It was love at first bite for her. Safe to say, we're definitely coming back.

Meat was juicy, sauce is plentiful, and it all conglomerates into a messy sandwich of deliciousness. Sausages are the other star here. The Spicy Hungarian sausage with mustard was absolutely a banger as well. It's a nice light kick and savory flavor with each bite. We finished off with a Cherry strudel which was not too sweet but still had the nice sugary finish of a dessert. I feel like I'm rambling but long story short, great food, great beer, great time. Have a slice of European cuisine out in Calimesa.

The Reuben and potato salad combo was especially hearty and satisfying, with rich, savory flavors that felt very true to a classic deli experience. The Hungarian sausage had a great depth of flavor, savory and well-seasoned without tipping into being overly salty. The cherry strudel was a standout to end the meal, filled generously with cherries and syrup, wrapped in a flaky pastry that balanced sweetness and texture really well. The beer tied everything together nicely, cold and refreshing, and exactly what you'd want with this kind of meal. I still prefer Busy Bees in San Pedro, but this was a nice alternative within the IE area. Price: George's Market falls into a casual, reasonable deli pricing tier. Sandwiches like the Reuben and similar deli items are generally in the mid‑teens range, while sausage plates and hot meals can push closer to around $15-20 depending on what you get. Beer and imported items vary, but overall you can expect to spend about $15-25 per person for a solid, filling meal. Given the quality, portion sizes, and specialty nature of the food, the pricing feels fair. Ambiance: The space is part cozy German market, part deli counter, with a warm, wood-heavy interior that feels inviting and a bit nostalgic. There's both indoor seating and an outdoor area, giving flexibility depending on the weather or how busy it is. Beyond the dining area, the market itself sells a wide range of German groceries and specialty products, which adds to the charm and makes it feel like more of an experience than just a quick meal. Service: Service was good and impressively efficient given how busy it gets. There was a noticeable line when we went (especially on a weekend lunch time), but things moved steadily and the staff kept everything organized without feeling rushed or chaotic. Friendly and straightforward overall. Parking: Parking is one of the easier parts of the visit. It's located in a plaza with a large shared lot, so there's plenty of space and no real hassle finding a spot, even during peak hours.

We ordered two bánh mì sandwiches (shrimp and lemongrass beef) along with an order of four fried egg rolls. Their fired egg roll option are only available in either shrimp or pork. One thing to note: jalapeños are automatically added to the bánh mì, so be sure to request no jalapeños when ordering if you're sensitive to spice. The seasoning and flavors in both bánh mì sandwiches were excellent, and all of the vegetables served with the bánh mì and egg rolls were fresh and crisp. In my opinion, it's often the little details like fresh produce that reveal the quality of a restaurant, and this place definitely delivered. We arrived around 7:30 PM and were a little concerned that we might feel rushed since it was getting close to closing time. Fortunately, that wasn't the case at all. The staffs allowed us to enjoy our meal at a comfortable pace, and we never felt pressured to leave. The dining area had two TVs showing family-friendly programming--one featured a Vietnamese cooking show, while the other was airing FIFA coverage on a news channel.
