12/10 stars. This place has the best cinnamon rolls anywhere ever! Totally worth the drive. We live close in Redlands but pre-order cinnamon rolls for holidays and try to get there early enough to get one when we're in the neighborhood. They do sell out of the cinnamon rolls. They are so delicious!! Love that we can get homemade bread without all of the chemicals and preservatives. Great place lucky to have this business in our local community. I come to Village Bread to get work done whenever I take my car in for service at the shop a half mile away. At 9 am on weekdays they have a full assortment delicious, fresh baked pastries and the staff are hard at work preparing trays for later in the day. The servers are friendly and it's not too busy - lines of maybe 4 or 5 people at the most. There are two businesses sharing the same building: Village Bread on the right and Lucid Coffee on the left. You get in line and pay twice, once for drinks and again for pastries. It's great to support local, independent businesses and hopefully the arrangement is working out well for both of them. There are small tables with stools to sit on around the side of the counter on the way to the gender-neutral restroom at the back of the shop. The tables are a bit small but it leaves a wide aisle and clearly communicates that the building is accessible for folks who use wheelchairs. The hum of the oven fans creates white noise in the background and there is music playing but not distractingly loud. I find it easy to get work done here. Holy mackerel. This is a new go to when I need my pastry fix. Woman at the counter was extremely friendly when I told her it was my first time, she gave me a French baguette on the house. I'm gonna be slightly upset upon returning home and not having this place to come to each morning! The absolute best bread and pastries I've ever had. It's so fresh that when it's gone,it's gone and it's made the good stuff...if you know,you know! The coffee side was ok as well but the bakery is surely the star of the show!! Such fun rediscovering them in their beautiful new facility with the huge bakery operation visible to all. The first time we discovered them was 2 years ago when their "bakery" was in a small storefront, hiding behind a single Dutch door that served as their sales counter. No customers were allowed inside. Indeed, there was a long line outside of desperate, carb craving souls willing to face the consequences regardless. You were at the bakery's mercy, peering through a large picture window, picking out your breads and pastries from whatever was left, and passing the money through the dutch door. It had a hilarious, illicit feeling about it. But impressive it was. The facility has moved and grown exponentially since that time. In full view you can watch the bustling activity and processes needed to make each beautiful loaf, pastry, cookie that emerges from their industrial kitchen. It's fascinating. But better yet, their products are phenominal. This is THE place for choosing a loaf of freshly baked bread. Their shortbread cookies are incredibly tender and buttery. Their Kouign-amann (pronounced "queen a-mahn"), is to die for. The last one I ate was in 1994 in New Orleans. I won't say this one is better but it's on par, no doubt. Out of 5 stars, it gets a 7, I truly fell in love - haha. The crispy outside with soft fluffy inside, finished with the perfect caramelized topping; loved it immensely. Best sourdough in the entire area!!!! We drive almost half an hour for it and it's worth every minute! All their pastries are delicious AND I love how they share their place with the coffee shop. Great coffee as well! The most INCREDIBLE tasting bread and pastries. I have had many pastries in different countries and this place is easily one of the best I've ever had. Be sure to get there when they open to get your preferred pick. I got one loaf of ancient sourdough, two loaves of classic sourdough, a churro croissant, lemon cheese danish, jalapeño cheese pretzel, and a Pain susse. Will need to come back to try more. All 11/10 They also have a coffee/matcha bar where they use ceremonial grade matcha. Unique and fresh syrups to add as well. Matcha was 8.5/10 Staff is always very friendly and there are a few places to set inside but might need to wait. Wow, didn't realize there was such a place in Calimesa. This bakery follows a European style process where they are minimalistic on the ingredient they use and use alot of organic stuff. 10/10, yes, amazing, you need this bread. We LOVE village bread! Everything we have tried here has been delicious, and you can tell it is all made with love. This is our go-to place for sourdough. We have tried the classics, but also enjoy the different flavors they do like the pepper or rosemary. The patties here are also delicious. I would recommend getting there early in the morning if you go on the weekends. They will sell out! Love that they share the space with Lucid Coffee, makes for a great morning. I happened to be in the area and had time for a quick coffee stop. Yelp listed Village Bread with amazing reviews so it was a must to visit and so glad I did. The bakery doesn't open until 8:30a and when I got there fifteen minutes before opening, there were people already waiting. Another sign that I was going to love it here. Parking can be complicated during prime time hours. Restroom is in the far corner and is pretty clean. The line went fairly quickly but I feel like if they had more customer service at the registers, it would be more efficient. Ordering was simple but wasn't exactly pleasant. I had to give the guy a pass because he had a pretty harsh attitude. Everyone has bad mornings so I had to get over it. Note - there's another register who handles coffee orders. No need to get in the bread line if you just want coffee. Overall, the bread and coffee duo was great. I would definitely recommend. read more

My daughter went to the back and was watching them make bread and they gave her a sourdough roll and a sample of their bread! She was cheesing ear to ear! We felt the love! I don't know why the bad reviews are complaining about the customer service, they were all lovely and even gave me a free baguette on my first visit. I did notice someone in the back leaning on the counter looking at his phone, however, which makes me worry about their sanitary practices. I was more-so shocked at how mediocre everything was based on the reviews. It's fine if you're looking for cheaper artisanal bread and pastries, which frankly I can't even say it's that cheap. I think the Yucaipa fruit stand has fresh bread at a better price. I get the feeling that people love it because it's all we really have around here for a bakery. Also I've noticed a few times that things have tasted off, croissants had a strange taste like the butter was old or left in the air for too long and bread had a few random crunchy pieces in it. Line was so slow we left the coffee line. Don't worry there is a separate bread line where a young girl in a mask hissed at my wife that she ordered an almond croissant. My wife is allergic and assured her she never mentioned almonds in her order. They reluctantly gave us the croissant we ordered but I left the coffee line due to the confrontation with my wife. This bakery puts out a fantastic product. Their bread is nothing short of amazing and delicious. Especially their sour dough. Thank god, because they have a few other issues: ---------------- 1.) Customer service is all over the map. They have had a cast of characters rotate through, but there is a particular guy that seems to be confrontational with everyone. The line is slow. 2.) Website (lack there of): Their website is the most confusing, convoluted thing I've ever seen. Is this for the coffee place, or the bread place??--Who knows. They need a standard, business-friendly website, that has the COMPLETE menu, WITH PRICES. The bizarre collection of photos of their menu board, and someone holding pages of an actual menu DOES NOT WORK. That is completely insane. Why make it more difficult for customers? (I'm referring to this one: https://village-bread.restaurants-world.com) 3.) Ordering: Convoluted and insane. In this day and age, why oh why would they not allow customers (like myself) to easily order bread online? It is so easy, and they wouldn't be missing out on sales. They have a QR code in one of the pictures that eludes to ordering online, but I just tried it and it's a (404) dead link. That is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Some people find it more convenient to order online, and are reluctant to call and can't come into order. 4.) Menu: All I have to say is, huh?? WTF? The menu board and sections need a complete overhaul and simplification. I have no clue what's what. They have the prices for the coffee drinks here, but an incomplete bread menu, with no prices. One look and you are scratching your head. Who thought this was adequate?? Take a look at some other bakery's website to see how they clearly convey information for inspiration. Have someone on fiverr design your site for you, because what they have now is not customer friendly. ------------------- That's about it. I hope they're able to take some constructive criticism and get these minor issues sorted out, and not get disgruntled. As you can see by my outside pic they mean "We are NOT a café - we are a BAKERY...", as quoted from their Yelp page. They don't have any inside or outside seating. On the day we were there, there was a canopied coffee/beverage seller immediately in front of this bakery. They pride themselves on the quality of their ingredients and baking, so check out their website and their FAQ section for an incredible amount of details relative to baking and baked goods. We arrived at 10:30 am on Saturday morning, and they were already out of a few items. There was ample parking. We actually brought our own coffee, and ate in the car under a shade tree. As you can see from my pic we tried 3 items: plain Croissant, Pain Au Chocolate and a Lemon Poppy Seed Cookie. The Croissant was wholesome, probably from the 25% whole grain flour - so it was denser than others. It was relatively stout and the crust had a far tug to it when pulled apart. It had the requisite light flavor, but had ample butter baked into it. The Pain Au Chocolate had ample quality chocolate and was well dispersed throughout. The crust was flaky, yet the flavor was strong enough not to be over powered by the chocolate. The Lemon Poppy Seed cookie was moist and had a nice chew. The lemon flavor was very, very mild and the poppy seeds didn't offer much of a pop of flavor or bite. read more

Ordered the five seed and classic sourdough. Both fresh and phenomenal. Service was great. Lucid roasters had great service as well. Coffee was spectacular. Got the hot vanilla oat latte and espresso tonic. Can't wait to come back. Happy to see small businesses thrive like this. read more
