Great Food, Great Service, and a Relaxed Atmosphere I had a really enjoyable experience here. The pretzel with cheese was delicious, and Sammy recommended the salmon, which was excellent. Sammy was especially great--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Her customer service really stood out. It's refreshing to have someone who takes pride in making sure customers have a good experience. More restaurants could take a page from Sammy's book because good customer service can make just as much of a difference as good food. Sammy made the visit feel personal and comfortable without being overbearing. The restaurant wasn't too busy when I visited, which made for a nice, chill atmosphere. I have been here before but finally took my husband and he loved it. Very comfortable, modern ambiance the perfect place for a close to home,impromptu date night. First, They should not advertise as an establishment that's "good for kids". It's not. Second, they downright discriminate against children with special needs that cannot use highchairs with asinine policies that REQUIRE guests to stay seated. My child was in no way disturbing other patrons or behaving in anyway that should've warranted the way we were treated. If simply standing next to the table vs sitting is "against policy" you're not "family friendly" you're a joke! Lastly, for $20 per entree you should get more than 12 fries/ tots (for $1 up charge) w/ a meal. read more

We ate an early dinner here on a Friday afternoon. The ambiance is cute and calm but it was quite hot in the restaurant. The server was nice and informative when talking to us about the menu. For the food, The Mac n cheese balls were okay, chicken Parmesan was a huge serving but had wayyyy too much sauce and I was disappointed in my Wise Guy sandwich as it had no flavor. We had such a great experience at Haus Bistro! The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and the service was fantastic. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It's so nice to find a place with great German food and a relaxed Bier Garten atmosphere. I hate the fact that I even have to write this review. My wife and I came to this restaurant about an hour ago with our 3 year old autistic son. He has several sensory and transitional issues and one of the things he struggles with in particular is sitting in a chair of any kind. However, he does extremely well with standing next to the table and playing with his toy cars so we didn't think there would be an issue. We were greeted right away and taken to a table in the back of the restaurant. Our server immediately asked if we wanted a high chair or if he'd be sitting in a normal chair, and we declined the high chair (as he abosolutely will start screaming and losing his mind if he's put into a high chair). She left to get us a couple glasses of water. While she was gone, my son alternated between sitting in my lap or standing next to me, quietly playing with his car. He then walked over to my wife (who was sitting across from me at the same table) and did the same. Around this time, the server comes back and tells me that the store owner has a policy that says my son MUST sit in a chair and is not allowed to stand. I'm sorry...what? We were pretty stunned and just said ok, and tried to put him in the chair at our table. Queue the IMMEDIATE meltdown/screaming, flailing fit that my AUTISTIC son had because he has a disability. My wife had to take him out of the restaurant and we had to switch our order to-go, and the whole time I felt like the staff was just staring at us, or at me once my wife and son left. Mind you, it wasn't like our son was running around the restaurant or causing a ruckus. He was standing next to us at our table, quietly regulating himself by playing with a toy. Unfortunately this restaurant chose to be discriminative against our son's disability. To the owner of The Haus Bistro, you and your staff should be ashamed of yourselves. I'm no lawyer but what happened tonight seems like it might be illegal and I fully intend on following up with legal counsel to determine whether or not our rights have been violated. I have never heard of a restaurant forcing its patrons to leave if they don't sit in a chair. We are locals and will be sharing this story with others. We won't be back and will be encouraging others to go elsewhere. read more

The Haus Bistro is one of those spots that stands out because it actually offers something different. The food leans German-style with some upscale, unique options you don't see everywhere. I finally tried it after years of passing by, ended up going in on a slow workday by myself, and I'm glad I did. The artichoke hearts were honestly one of the highlights, really well done. The beer selection is also unique and worth exploring if you're into trying something outside the usual. Service stood out too. I had a newer waitress who was still in training, and she handled everything really well. Attentive, polite, and didn't miss a step, which says a lot. The place itself is clean and has a classy feel without trying too hard. It's not somewhere I'd go all the time, but that's kind of the point. The calimesa location didn't have the selection of German beers and the menu was different, we decided we preferred Oakglen! The calimesa location has great hours, their competitors are closed on sunday and Monday. It's a nice quiet restaurant, and the service was top notch. What a great experience! We drove 50 miles to try out this spot after someone shared a review with me. it was well worth the drive. We were seated quickly by the friendly Staff. Our amazing server Samantha had our beverages out quickly. Her suggestions from the menu were spot on! By the way, the menu was perfect! Just the right amount of variety without being overwhelming. My wife slumped down and melted from how good the chicken marsala was. She said she would come back again just for her dish. Every part was perfect. I have had steak sandwiches all over Southern California and this was right there at the top of my list. It was so good and at almost a foot long it was great value. Now those chips were amazing as well. Great job guys. It's a nice spot that is laid out well. Table size is great and lighting is perfect. Haus Bistro is a very quaint, one of a kind restaurant in the small town of Calimesa. Calimesa, a quiet afterthought hidden at the base of the San Gorgonio foothills is midway between Oak Glen (apple country) and the Palm Springs (desert). Haus Bistro offers a very interesting, unique international menu for a surprising dining experience. Their German cuisine entrees were what motivated me to give them a chance. I had the jaeger schnitzel, a thinly pounded pork tenderloin with a rich, brown mushroom gravy. I was extremely pleased for it's rich authentic flavor and generous size. The red cabbage that came as a side was also delicious albeit sweeter than I expected. I would have loved having some German potato salad instead of spaetzle or potatoes, but I don't recall if they even offered it. Fortunately for me, not too far away is George's Market, a small German mom and pop market/deli, where I can always fulfill that craving. So, the other dish ordered was a classic Monte Cristo sandwich. It looked spectacular, but ended up being a major disappointment for being extremely greasy. Mr. B ended up eating mostly filling and very little of the French toast bread. He would not recommend this. One of the fun items we tried were their house made kettle chips. The plain version of their chips came with the sandwich. Yummy! But there is also an appetizer, called Barrel Room Chips, a taste sensation that takes a crispy kettle chip and pairs it with parmesan cheese and rosemary. The chips come out hot, fresh out of the fryer and are a real treat. The next day they were still sensational. Since we don't live in the area, I can only give our first impressions, but I would be happy to return to try some of the other compelling items on their menu. read more

We arrived at 8:29 and as soon as we were seated we were told the restaurant closes at 9 and we would need to order right away. No problem, we ordered the artichoke dip to start. I asked about our appetizer when they delivered the salad at 9:15! The waitresses explained that they were trying to make another tables order right, and she "didn't know what was going on in the kitchen." We had to request a new appetizer plate for one of our guests who received a dirty plate. Meals came out after 9:30, and the sauces appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp. We were reminded several times that it was near closing time... then please give us our food so we can eat and leave. This was my 3rd time at Haus Bistro. First time visiting The Haus Bistro in Calimesa which was very clean and cozy. Our server, Marikka, was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Portabello Fries and were really surprised by how huge they were! It was a little disappointing that most of them were the very thick breading. My husband had the fish and chips (french fries) and he said most of the fish was also breading but the fish itself was good. I had the Grilled Turkey and Kettle Chips which were both very good. The current Yelp 4.4 Star review is too low! The lunch food and service today were top notch. We arrived a bit before opening, but Georgie, our waitress, let us come in and pick a table. I had the peanut butter cream draft beer, and Georgie offered me a taste just to be sure! I've never had that option so I took it and the beer was a surprise and quite satisfying. For lunch, it was the Bistro Steak sandwich, which featured tri-tip and gorgonzola cheese, accompanied by Haus-made chips. The sandwich was different and perhaps the best tri-tip sandwich I have ever had, and I have had many. The gorgonzola and tri-tip pared really well, and the chips were spot on. Wow. I LOVED this place. My sister took me for the first time and it is just the cutest inside with twinkly lights. The food was absolutely spectacular. I want to give this place a 10! Who knew, a little place in Calimesa would leave such an impression? My oh my, this place is one of the best restaurants I have been to in my adult life. The Hot Honey Salmon with Brussels was prepared exactly the way I like it. My husband ordered the Wiseguy sandwich and to my surprise he was very pleased. He's a difficult one to please.
