We've eaten here several times and have had some good meals and fantastic service. Alps Village lets you experience authentic flavors of Europe, especially the rich and diverse flavors of German and Balkan cuisine. The décor and atmosphere are rustic, cozy, and take me back to the gasthaus experiences when visiting my relatives in Deutschland (Germany). Parking is aplenty in their private lot. NOTE: They do close for the summer months, so check their website (www.alpsvillage.com) for details. SERVICE: On almost all of our visits, Z ("Zarinka") has been our waitress, but the entire staff is friendly and assists as one big team. DRINKS: They have a full bar and some delightful beers on tap, and selections of domestic and foreign beers in bottles. FOOD: I will say that our first experience was only okay (excellent service, but average food). Our return visits were due to my Yelp friend, Dennis W.'s review and insistence that it was worthy of another try. I'm glad we did, as repeated follow up visits provided us a chance to try many different menu items, and we've now found dishes more suited to our palates. We've tried the Jagerschnitzels, pork and veal, each was served with spatzele and literally a fork full of red cabbage (suggest to chefs that a little more be served). We also ordered a side of the cucumber salad, which was prepared a little differently than most German restaurants (and what I grew up with), but tasty, nonetheless. My mother-in-law had an appetizer portion of chicken wings, which were good. Some of the other dishes we've tried are Goulash Soup, Schnitzel a la Holstein, Octopus Schnitzel, Lamb Chops, and Cheeseburger. Everything is well prepared, and most are quite tasty. Desserts are excellent as well, and due to the size of the entrees, they can easily be shared. Consistent excellent service, good food, and reasonable prices bring us back time and time again. Thanks Alps Village!

Stopped by Alps Village in Palm Desert and ordered an Ožujsko beer along with the ćevapčići served with lepinja bread, kajmak, and roasted potatoes. The ćevapčići were juicy and well seasoned, cooked just right and perfect with the soft lepinja bread. The kajmak was rich and creamy and paired really well with both the meat and the roasted potatoes. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside, making the plate feel complete. The Ožujsko beer was cold and refreshing and fit the meal perfectly. The atmosphere felt relaxed and authentic, especially if you enjoy Balkan food and drinks. Service was friendly and welcoming, making it an easy place to settle in and enjoy a proper meal. Zrinka, the owner is the most kindest person and a delight.

Hidden gem. Came here on a whim Monday night. Highly recommend making a reservation, this place gets pretty busy. They have outdoor seating- great for warm evenings. Interior has a rustic feel. Service was great. We ordered beer and appetizer - bratwurst pizza; followed by Veal Medallions (tender), Chicken Paprikash (tasty), and Pork Schnitzel (yum); and of course dessert, German Chocolate Cake - moist and delicious. We were rolling out the restaurant!!

If you've ever wanted to feel like you've accidentally stumbled into a Bavarian block party via an unmarked strip mall, Alps Village is your place. Seriously, this restaurant is tucked so far in the back of the plaza that I felt like I was entering a foodie speakeasy. Password: Bratwurst. Once inside, though? BOOM. The place is absolutely popping. Lively, warm, and bustling like Oktoberfest got lost and decided Palm Desert was close enough. The staff? Amazing. The kind of amazing where you half-expect someone to offer you free refills on life advice. I started with a GIANT PRETZEl and I do mean giant. This thing was so big I considered naming it and giving it its own chair. Then came my bratwurst sandwich, which looked modest until it arrived and turned out to be roughly the size of a small dachshund. And the twice-baked/fried potatoes? I don't know who in that kitchen sold their soul to make potatoes this good, but it was worth it. And the boot of beer...yes, an actual glass boot paired perfectly with everything. I'm convinced drinking out of footwear makes beer taste better. Scientists, get on this. Prices? Perfectly matched with the portions and the stellar service. We basically rolled ourselves out of there and immediately declared this a mandatory stop every time we're in Palm Desert. Make reservations PLEASE !! You won't regret it. My only regret: no room for dessert. I saw the dessert tray go by and it took every ounce of willpower not to chase it like a cartoon character floating after a pie. Bottom line: Go. Eat. Drink. Pretzel. Boot. Happiness.

    Ate the whole thing!

Great spot, good food - terrible music from 80's?! Why have crap music. Service was good. Prices up there. Ambiance visually really nice. But, the music, did I mention? Absolutely terrible! No music would be 110% better

Ran across Tommy's Kitchen online and gave it a try. Tommy was very friendly online and we ordered for 4 a little late but he accommodated. Did not know what to expect as we had never ordered to reheat later. Luckily my camp grill can double as a simple oven. We were AMAZED at the food quality and taste. Days later I still find myself thinking of the food. Every item of this feast was beyond what we expected. The dessert was the finale. Anyone staying up there in a BnB or camping and have access to an oven should seriously consider ordering from them. Check out their website it only adds to the reasons to support them. We've been coming to Idyllwild for 60+ years (100 as a family) and we've seen restaurants great and small come and go. Tommy's right now is one of the top three, ironically as it is takeout dinners with the occasional holiday brunch. This Sunday on Memorial Day weekend we ordered the Roast Lamb special ($24), a robust herbed port wine jus three slices, which came with a dense square of scalloped potatoes au gratin, buttered peas and glazed carrots--with excellent broccoli cheddar soup with croutons--and a white dark chocolate mousse that was the perfect light dessert (I couldn't believe I ate it all). We're having leftovers for lunch or dinner today. What Tommy's gives is way over price value but it's his European culinary technique that elevates the food, even when doing crispy fried chicken with biscuits and gravy. The menu is set, one dish a day, though some occasionally come with vegetarian options. As a bonus, son James bakes excellent French bread--we bought a sun-dried tomato one which was terrific dipped in olive oil. Best of all, for us, Tommy's allows us to not fill the best hours of the evening with cooking and prep. We can sit out on our deck and enjoy the mountains. I'm a food writer among other things (finalist, Best Restaurant Feature, 2015, City & Regional Magazine Association) and author of The French House.

We had originally booked patio seating, but from the moment we walked in, the experience felt thoughtful and genuinely hospitable. We were warmly greeted by the owner, who immediately noticed we had a baby and proactively offered to relocate us to a more protected outdoor area while still preserving the al fresco experience. He set us up in the covered outdoor section to the right of the restaurant--best described as a beautifully styled canopy space rather than a typical patio. It was lush, cozy, and lavishly decorated with greenery, honestly a vibe all on its own. He even turned on the heaters to make sure our baby stayed warm. That level of care alone already set the tone for the night. Now let's talk about the food--because wow. This is classic French comfort done right. We started with the chicken liver pâté, which was easily one of the best I've had to date. Silky, rich, and deeply flavorful. This dish was especially nostalgic for me--my mom is a huge fan of pâté, and growing up we'd often eat it with bread as a snack or light meal. One bite instantly transported me back. Comfort food in the truest sense. For entrées, my wife ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon--tender, slow-braised beef that practically melted, swimming in a deeply savory, wine-forward sauce that felt both rustic and refined. I went with the Steak au Poivre, perfectly cooked and coated in a bold, peppery cream sauce that struck that ideal balance between richness and bite. Both dishes were executed beautifully--classic French flavors, no shortcuts, no gimmicks. Drinks were just as satisfying. I ordered a dirty Grey Goose martini with blue cheese olives, and let me tell you--it's surprisingly hard to find places that actually carry blue cheese olives. This one detail alone earned extra points in my book. The ambiance really tied everything together. French music played throughout both the indoor and outdoor spaces--some tracks were even recognizable, adding to the authenticity without feeling cliché. It felt transportive, warm, and relaxed. And bonus points for location: the restaurant sits right next to Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, making it dangerously easy (and highly recommended) to follow up dinner with dessert. All in all, French Rotisserie Cafe delivered on hospitality, atmosphere, and genuinely excellent French cuisine. Whether you're visiting Palm Desert for the first time or you're a local, this spot is absolutely worth a reservation.

We were seated in the back of the restaurant, closer to the kitchen, which I don't think is nearly as nice as the front. It's not unpleasant, just not as nice. I was annoyed when the next table got their cocktail order in before us because they were seated after us. We got a different server, who took a while. The host had only provided a cocktail and wine list, so we weren't able to use that time to figure out dinner. Eventually the server came by. He knew his stuff, and went through everything we needed to know, but it was also clear that he was flat out. He asked if we wanted water, but then forgot and when we prompted him, one came with ice even though our guest requested no ice. Inital round of cocktails was on point, though no extra olives as requested by one. Not a huge deal. Drinks were excellent. Bread service and the beet salad were also quite good. I got the swordfish special. Swordfish is not my favorite fish, but the prep (pineapple black bean chutney) enticed me and it was very good. Another got the caper-lemon schnitzel. Another got the chicken curry. The curry was not as good as hoped; I think it was a little thin. No complaints on the schnitzel. Dessert and coffee were offered but we were full.
