They're so nice here but the food really falls short. Chicken fried steak was soggy, gravy was bland, and their iced tea tasted a bit weird. Their pancakes weren't good at all either. This place is definitely patroned by the locals. I wish the prices were better for being so far from the freeway but it felt pretty standard at a little under $20 for a chicken fried steak breakfast. Flo's Country Cafe is THE CUTEST mom & pop shop of Cherry Valley. The restaurant is small on the inside but big in heart. They have a lovely outdoor space that makes dining here comfortable. The food is always reliably good. I recommend the biscuits and gravy and country fried steak. They offer great food, have the friendliest waitresses, serve homemade jelly and homemade salsa and whatever we choose to eat - we always leave happy, full and done within an hour. Came here this morning with my partner and wanted to give it a try. We came and were sat quickly. The waitress was really nice, took our order, and checked up on us frequently. I ordered the French toast combo with bacon and added hashbrowns and a cup of gravy on the side. The bacon was crispy, French toast was nice and fluffy, and the hash browns were delicious with gravy on top! I was impressed by the portion size as well. My partner ordered country fried steak combo with his biscuits and grave SOS style. He really enjoyed it and recommends those who love this style of gravy to come try it. FYI this place gets packed! I would give this place zero of the stars if I could just for the service I received. You're friendly neighborhood server name MARIA was so welcoming that she took away all the salt and pepper shakers started cleaning up the tables in an hour before they closed. So we decided to make our order to go to make things easier for her. So they brought us the menus and asked us for drinks. And we asked for water. We waited 10 minutes. She came back to take our order without water. My friend tried to explain to her very nicely. That we decided to take our order to go. And before she even could hear our order, she took away the silverware settings that they had put out with the menus. She said, oh well, I thought you guys were going to eat here so I'll take these then. Nice enough as my friend is he, still made an order. Her attitude about packing everything up, including taking our silverware, left a bad taste in my mouth. So I told her that I didn't want anything. I had planned an ordering the special, which was a broccoli cheese soup. We still hadn't been served water over 15 minutes later. As side note I used the bathroom because I needed to wash my hands and there was no soap. That's just the extra cherry on top of this story. So while we were waiting for my friend's order, he decided he needed to use restroom. Then MARIA came out and tried to have a conversation with me. Asking if we were hikers. I guess if you're not dressed to the nines Then, you're a bum from the streets. i was doing yard work, and on a whim.I asked my friend if he wanted to take a cruise break. We ended up in Cherry Valley. I absolutely assume that I was being profiled even tho I drove there in a souped up offroad jeep...$$ I don't care if I walked up to the restaurant after hoking.... Whoever bought it from the original owners has degraded the quality significantly. We used to love the chicken fried steak breakfast... its not good now. Thin weird meat. BUT, was told I could not get fries (or onion rings) as the cook doesn't turn on the fryer until 9:30 or later. WHY? When I asked 2 different servers, neither knew the answer. Since when should a cook dictate the wants of the customers? How can the manager/owner allow this to be happening? Also, the Monte Cristo should be DEEP FRIED and not slapped on the flat top. And, the hash browns had nasty hard pieces in them. How does that happen? First time here, and the food was very good. Stopped in here after a day in Oak Glen and was seated quickly. Had our menus and coffee in short order. Food came out hot, and there were 2 plates as it was a generous helping. (Must say the coffee was very good and they left a carafe of it so I didn't have to ask for more) I was very pleased with the food, but the lack of a 5th star was due to the lack of service. After the food came out, we got the curtesy "how's the food?" Talk in short order, but after that nothing. We waited to ask for a take home box, but never saw our waitress again. Came to Oak Glenn for a wedding and met up for lunch with a few friends just before Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - we got a country fried steak (hearty meal) and cinnamon roll French toast. The french onion soup that came was amazing in flavor with the sweetness from the onions, richness in the stock, and just a hint of saltiness from the melty cheese. The country fried steak sat on a layer of gravy and was a thin layer of meat with quite a hard crust. Our friends really enjoyed theirs but we weren't the biggest fans. The cinnamon roll french toast was interesting since it was shaped like a rectangular bread but pulls apart like a cinnamon roll. It's very heavy with sugar so didn't need the syrup nor butter. Quite sweet but I really enjoyed it! Ambience: 5/5 - homey decorations on the inside and simple on the outside.
