The diner is cute (old school) and my food was good, but I'm giving it 3 stars because I didn't appreciate the owner dismissing my complaint that my BLT came to $8.35(!). Even when I pulled up their menu and showed him half a dozen comparable sandwiches with more ingredients for several dollars less (eg turkey bacon egg and cheese for $5.25), he just argued with me and kept telling me to have a good day. Ugh. Annoying. All I wanted was for him to consider that maybe there was an error in price listing somewhere. Smh. I wasn't even asking for money back, although, that would have also been the better course of action from his side. "Customer is king" seems to be a lost concept here. The sandwich (a BLT on a roll) was good but I am never coming back. Who the hell pays $8+ for a roll with mostly lettuce and tomatoes?! Been living here a while, always see this place looking busy. Now that we've eaten there we can't fathom why. It's essentially tired diner fare, which isn't all that bad, but when you're sourcing cheap ingredients it's not good. I took a look around at the other tables and the food on those tables of mostly older local regulars, looked uninspiring. I thought the safest way to go would be burgers. Having enjoyed very good burgers at Raceway Diner up the block a couple of times, these were a waste of time & money. Either the meat was freezer burned or just low grade patties, but the burgers weren't even good- and in the diner business, that's not good. We had an extraordinary server. A lovely woman with short hair who can excel at any restaurant comfortably. I'd say head to Raceway Diner if you're doing diner. Leave this joint to the local ancients who've been eating this stuff long past the time their tastebuds could register how mediocre it is. read more

You know, the Clairmont is one of those places that just is what it is. You can get better diner food at different places around Yonkers, but the Clairmont isn't bad either. They are great if you are in the area and looking to grab a quick meal. I've never had much of a wait, even during the weekend mornings and the food arrives hot and quickly. The waitstaff is just "okay". There breakfast is good, but the coffee isn't great. Lunch is fine for a quick meal. This is just one of those places that you can go to in a pinch and be assured the food will be decent, but if you are looking to be blown out of the water by diner food this is not the place. New patrons should also be aware that this place is "Cash Only" and there isn't a bank too close to the establishment, so bring your cash. It's a true drawback, in my opinion. read more

There are 3 diners on the East end of Yonkers Avenue - all within 1 mile - this is the one in the middle in both geographic location and rank to me. I've come in here quite a few times over the years and would also order take out. The eat in food is good and at times, can be very good - even for a diner. The take out used to be ok, but then slipped to the point where I won't even bother anymore. I'm not sure what they do in here that they don't do in other places, but if you order a burger and fries for take out, expect the bottom bun and at least some fries to be soggy. It's happened more than enough times to me and I won't ever order take out from here anymore. Inside is small and can get crowded depending on the time. The wait staff have always been friendly. One of my main problems in this place is the fact that it's the year 2015 and they don't accept credit or debit cards - cash only (They might accept a check, but I'm not sure). This could be a problem at times if I'm not prepared with the cash on me and before I order, I usually have to see if I do have the cash ahead of time. If I wanted to eat inside spur of the moment, I better make sure I have cash on me or else no food for me. In 2015, why they can't accept cards is beyond me - even if they're trying to avoid that fee the card companies charge monthly, it's kind of strange a place like this wouldn't take the plastic. They do have a 3rd party ATM machine in the back, but dealing with those machines is a mistake I've made before and I won't ever do it again. And really, why should I pay the extra ATM fee when it's not an emergency - and why would I use a 3rd party machine, when I don't normally just because they don't accept cards. I can easily go down the block to the Argonaut where it's not a problem....and I do. The parking lot is small and the average driver can't seem to manage it. There is street parking, but before 7pm you need to feed the meters. Anyway, good food and a decent place to go overall. Just make sure you don't order take out and have cash with you. read more

This place is one of three diners in the immediate area and although it was voted as the best in Westchester, it's not my favorite out of the three. The food is pretty good. I got the Irish skillet which is corn beef topped with tomatoes and cheese with your choice of type of egg you want (I picked sunny side). I really thought it was flavorful. My boyfriend got a combination called the Hungry Man which has waffles, sausage, eggs and bacon which was pretty average. This place has a good parking lot, friendly staff but a downside is that they only accept cash. read more

I just want start out by saying I've never had a problem with the food here, the price is right and so are the portions. I do highly recommend they step up with the times and accept credit cards. The downside to this diner is the type of service you receive in the early morning hours 4-5am. The wait staff at this hour appear to care less that you are standing there waiting to place an order to go. On my recent and last visit I stood at the counter for ten minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge the fact that I was standing there wanting to order something. I addressed two waitresses who were working at the time and both ignored me. I addressed someone who was dressed as a waiter and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away (he turned out to be the bus boy). One waitress was so focused on washing out a rag and talking to a patron in a very unprofessional manner she gave me her back the entire time. I stood directly in front of the other waitress who was adding up the check for someone else at the counter and she too ignored the fact I was standing there. I think that this type of service in a service oriented business can cause a business to close. If the staff would have just taken a second to look at me say "Give me a moment and I will be right with you" I would have been happy and waited as long as needed to be taken care of. I manage thirty employees for a customers service related business and if this is the type of service my employees gave to my patrons they the employee would find his or herself out the door looking for another job. Apparently there is no owner or manager present at this hour so the employees do what ever they want. I highly suggest that someone (owner or manager) be present on the overnight shift to keep things in check. In closing, I will now be taking my business to another diner that is just up the road. I pass right by it every morning and it's always busy. Maybe it's because the food? Or maybe it's because of the great customer service? I will soon find out. read more

We have ordered twice from this place and both times the order was missing multiple items. The first time we thought "no big deal, it happens". The second time, today, was terrible. The food came minus a side Salad, butter and sour cream for the baked potato. We called and when we mentioned we were missing the salad the man response was "oh, the girl said she forgot to put it in the bag". Normally, I would say "no worries, just reimburse the card". Being this was the second time I asked to please bring it over. The guy, confused, said "you want us to just bring you a salad?" Yes sir, I do. He said ok and hung up. The locals sure must know something we don't because this place is always full of people, whereas the larger, nicer-looking diner only 1 block away is always empty. This diner is located in what looks like a shack across the street from the Yonkers raceway, and the window is always painted with a cute seasonal mural. The Clairmont offers diner fare for a very decent price. Food's been very clean for me. I tend to special order things and they are very kind and give you what you want. I liked this place because they are very nice, and respectful to old people - they treat them like people. If you're lucky, you can catch the irish waitresses making hilarious comments.. "Don't spill now, that oatmeal will glue your eyes shut if you're not careful." "Have a mighty day !" The food is good [by diner standards], there is a huge selection of menu items as well as some irish fare, the portions are generous and its very inexpensive. While its not much of a looker, it has a down-home welcoming feel to it, which I am sure has something to do with why its so frequented. Good place to stop if you are passing through, or to meet just before the horse races. The service is good, and this establishment seems to be unphased about selling anything and everything to go, from a single small item to a dinner for eight. Try the souvlaki, a seafood combo, any of their roasted meats, tilapia francese over sauteed spinach, a greek salad, fries&burgers, or appetizers. The oatmeal with blueberries is yummy good for breakfast. and the rice pudding is delicious. Very good diner. Food is hot and fresh. I asked for gravy for my club melt. It was incredibly delicious. For those of you who don't know what a club melt is I will tell you, it's fresh turkey, bacon, melted american cheese and tomato on toasted sourdough bread. The gravy adds a nice touch to the sandwich! Their soups are also great as well. Chicken orzo, cream of spinach and french onion all the best soups I ever had. Outrageous! Last time I was there I ordered take out. I ordered the same thing I normally get when I sit in and dine, so I was surprised when the waitress at the register was tallying up my tab and the prices were higher than normal. I asked if the menu prices had changed, she looked at me and SMILED and said, "that's for my tip." She was writing her tip into my bill and had the nerve to look at me and smile and tell me so. I don't know if this I common practice here , but it's certainly BAD BUSINESS. SHADY, BAD BUSINESS. Tipping is a courtesy based on the service you receive, not an obligation, and should be determined by the customer not the staff. Out of the three diners in the area it is the smallest but it is the best. I eat breakfast regularly every Saturday with a co worker and Fiona our waitress is great and did I mention the food was very good too. I also eat dinner with my wife here and the daily specials are pretty cheap and not what I would classify as diner food. Jacobs mixed grill is a plate of a pork chop, lamb chops and steak with a soup or salad, a potato and a veggy for around $16.00. The seafood is always fresh and tasty. The staff here are great and very attentive. If it bothers you to pay cash just remember by not taking credit cards management can keep prices down. They don't have to pay a fee to the banks and pass it along to you. And don't forget to tip the wait staff they are good. read more

I ordered today a simple order to share with my toddlers. A small fruit salad, an easy fried chicken salad and a milkshake. I placed my order on uber eats at about 2pm. Since they use their own delivery person i was unable to track it. At 315, i called the restaurant for an update n he says it probably around the corner and didn't see an order when he came in to work. 15 minutes later, i get a call from the driver to go outside to the street in the cold rain while i had to leave my toddlers alone. I go outside and he's at the wrong building so i had to wait for him to walk down. It states meet at door on the app. I get back and open my order to the completely wrong order. A soggy gyro with mostly just yellow iceburg lettuce n practically no meat and soggy onion rings. I call cuz I'm livid and i have to wait for owner tomorrow for refund. This has to be 3x they screwed it up n all were with this driver. A shame because I love their food. Lost me. read more

This is my favorite diner; but keep in mind if I'm eating here it's likely it's late at night; and even more likely that I've been out drinking. But hey, isn't that when diners are at their best?!? I love that they have the Irish items on the menu in addition to your typical diner staples: Full Irish Breakfast, blood puddings, bangers, Irish Bacon, etc. When I goto a diner I'm usually tourn between whether or not to go the route of breakfast (pancakes, French toast, etc) or with a burger usually a Patty Melt. But the one thing I surely going to order as a side is the Corned Beef Hash and the Clairmont's is particularly good. Soif you're not lost and fined yourself "Hungry in Yonkers" and it's late and probably no place else is open... you're probably at the Raceway-Casino. And the Clairmont's is just across the street so go there and get some tasty food. read more

a simple nothing fancy diner on yonkers ave across from empire city casino . the place is old looking with its old fashion decor but the food is ain't bad at all and prices are pretty fair as well . went to grab some breakfast with my brother as the other diner further down was pack . the parking situation is limited but plenty on the street is easy to find . the menu is typical american and greek with a few nations included if you prefer like a tradition Irish breakfast .. i went the simple breakfast route of scrambled egg whites , potatoes and whole wheat toast with coffee . the food is good but coffee is nothing special but i ain't much of a java drinker so it's not a big deal . the service is attentive and quick , place is clean and not loud like the other diners in area . from the outside it's not much to look at from a modern decor angle and inside it's also nothing special but if you are strictly into grabbing some decent eats then this diner will do just dandy . P.s. grab a booth near the window facing Yonkers Ave so you can look at the degenerate gamblers walk around in a daze after losing their monthly mortgage payment . read more

I have dinner there at least twice a month and have been for the past year. The servers are all friendly, the food is very good. I don't usually order seafood from diners but every time it's on the dinner special menu I get it the broiled seafood. Sometimes you have a little wait for a table especially if your going around 4 or 5 but that's ok with me. The prices are very reasonable and they give you a nice sized portion of food. There's enough parking for double what the restaurant holds. The only thing they could change would be accepting debit/credit cards! But they do have an ATM. This is not your average diner. The food is freshly made with the kind of care you would get in a home cooked meal. The service is extremely friendly and everything is spotless. The owner watches over this cozy place like it's his baby. You will not be disappointed.
