Palabok was good. Beef soup was good too. We enjoyed the food. We ordered takeout and it was easy. They were nice enough that they let us pickup the order before they closed. We were driving over when we called in since we wanted to try it since we were in the area.

The service was great. It was fast and they did not take a long time to bring the food out. They were very attentive and checked in periodically. The food was okay. For my first time, I enjoyed it. The shrimp and rice noodles were a bit tangy but with the mix of the chili sauce and lemon it gave good flavor. Very quiet when we first walked in but started to buzz with people after 5. Seems like a great place to sit and have a nice small dinner with friends.

Lumpia pork, 18 pieces ($17) - solid and good

I'd been wanting to check out this place for years! My partner and I got takeout. It was sadly fairly empty on an early weekend evening. It was hard to find a menu online, but Yelp helped a bunch there! And Google, frankly, to get some descriptions. We liked everything we got, though we felt it was a little pricey for what it was. We really liked the Sisig. I've never had anything like it, and it was flavorful without being heavy. The lumpia were a great addition. I would order anything we got again, though there was much on the menu we wanted to try, that we'd need to try more dishes!

I have had my eye on this restaurant for some time now but having picky friends has caused my delay but we finally made it!! I have my knowledge about Filipino cuisine so I was super excited to indulge! We started off with of course the delicious Lumpia!! 18 pieces to be exact! While we first initially thought that would be too much we polished it off! They are perfectly crispy and flavorful. I love the burnt ends adds for a more depth in flavor. For our entree we got the Chicken Adobo (classic) and the Lechon. Both came with white rice. The chicken adobo was fantastic! The flavors were amazing and the chicken just fell right off the bone. I just wish it was a bit saucier. As for the lechon it was perfectly crispy. Wish it came with some dipping sauce component though. To wash everything down we got calamansi juice which tasted like lemonade but wayyyyy better. But what I was most excited for was dessert!!! I have always wanted to try Halo Halo and was even more excited to see that they had an Ube flavor! What a crazy texture experience it was! The shaved ice, the ube puree, the ice cream, the jellies and then BEANS!!! Yes you heard that right there was white beans in my dessert! I definitely did not like that though because the skin on the bean gets hard when it sits in the shaved ice so I was sure to whisk those away. But that ube flavor is just sooo good I was so full but could not stop sneaking my "last bite". We also got the Turon and as a Latina I always love my maduros (ripened plantain) so having them fried was pure perfection.

The place has short hours which is unfortunate maybe it's the area they're located in. When you walk in you're welcomed warmly and the staff is very friendly. They do charge more if you use a credit card instead of paying cash. The ambiance is inviting and warm, they have tables and also a community table next to the cashier. I ordered the lumpia pork which were amazing but tiny. The sweet sauce was ok, tasted more like duck sauce than sweet chili. I may have been unlucky there with the pour. But the lumpia were very authentic and full of flavor. The pancit was a let down, the noodles were still a bit raw and not much in terms of seasoning or flavor. It was a huge let down as it's usually one of my favorite Filipino dishes to order. The place had a good crowd inside and lots of to go orders being picked up. Will definitely try again as the food was decent despite the let down with the pancit. I did cook the noodles a little longer at home and added more seasoning and it became amazing. So taking it as a tiny error on their part otherwise it would have been a 5 star review. Since some reviews mention they only cater to Filipinos that is not true at all from my experience. I'm not Filipino and they were warm and friendly. (Not even sure why I have to put this, but seems to be necessary as the 1-3 star reviews all claimed they got poor food and service cause they were not Filipino)

I came across on yelp when I was looking for a place by Yonkers. To my surprise that there was a Filipino restaurant I just had to try it. I brought a friend and we met here for lunch. The place was a very modest low-key setting. It feels like a mom's dining room. We picked a table and sat down. Immediately the waiter brought menus and ask us if we would like drinks. We quickly placed our order and patiently waited. The food came out piping hot and everything was delicious. I had ordered the vegetable fritter but we got vegetable lumpia. Not sure where the error lies, but decided to keep it and eat it. We also asked for a side of stir fried vegetables since everything was saucy or fried. The chef accommodated. Overall the food were authentic and full of flavor. We end the meal skating halo halo which was ube galore and a must. Without a doubt definitely coming back to try other dishes. You will enjoy it!

Lechon

The food was amazing! The service was a bit slow, but it was understandable as it was busy. I love how they decorated the restaurant. The Lechon and the Lumpia were our favorites!

Finally came back to this place on our way back to CT from JFK. Parking was plenty.. one great thing of coming here. Food was just as good as I remembered. Enjoyed the liempo and the bulalo, but for the price you pay they were skimpy on veggies. BF loved the chicken bbq.. and the sisig was okay for me. Not the kind of sisig I really want, made of pork jowl and ears. Service was friendly and attentive. But, the price of food from 3 years ago, nearly doubled. Expensive for Filipino food, but that's the cost you pay for not going to queens looking for street parking.

Chicken Inasal
Dan S.

Not bad. This was my second visit, the first one was a complete disappointment. I guess they found their groove. The BBQ portion was generous and flavor was not bad. They served the meat with delicious sweet vinegar!! The sweetness from the BBQ was perfectly balanced by the asim from the suka. I wish they seared the meat some more. It was also a bit rubbery. It seemed like my serving was reheated so it was a bit dry too. Chicken Inasal was very flavorful and that portion was also generous. It was served with perfectly balanced toyo and calamansi sawsaw. I had the passionfruit drink which was very expensive and tasted like it was poured from a bottle they bought at HMart. Service was attentive. Parking was free, easy, and convenient.

Ube Halo Halo

Service was friendly, and the food came out fresh and tasty. We tried the Laing today which was great. The pork sisig is consistently fantastic, and the Halo Halo is huge, so definitely bring a friend to share. Not a huge amount of seating space, but they have long tables for larger parties. The bathroom is incredibly clean. Would definitely return to try more things from the menu.

Ant R.

Fantastic service here - and quite unique! Filipino food? Very interesting blend of culinary disciplines. Pretty sure I had the "Adobong" which is apparently the "Filipino National Dish." It sounded serious, so I ordered it, and it seriously packed a Pacquiao punch.

I like the food at this place. My friends and I went for lunch and had the bilao, fried bangus with egg and garlic rice, longganiza with egg and garlic rice, ukoy, fresh home made wrapper lumpia, and their latest Pandan halo halo. The service is good and all servers are polite. Bathroom is also very clean. What a wonderful bright space to eat. They are now open for lunch! Eating here is like eating at home away from home.

Food: 3/5 Decent Filipino establishment in Yonkers. We ordered an hour before closing and they unfortunately ran out of sisig AND rice. Bummer. We ordered the lechon, bilao ni ate for 2 and they gave us a complimentary pancit because they ran out of rice. Overall, the food wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst. The lechon wasn't very crispy and the lumpia was a bit dry. If you're craving Filipino food, this place would satisfy your craving. Service: 3.5/5 The guys working here were friendly. They said they tried calling us to inform us that they ran out of sisig but we didn't receive any calls. Upon arrival, we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for our food. It took long.. Ambiance: 3.5/5 Cute little establishment. There's two family sized tables with a divide in the middle. If you're craving Filipino food, I'd recommend maybe dining in instead of ordering for take out.

Ask the Community - Hapag Filipino Cuisine

If I order the Sisig for take out, will they cook the egg before they package it? Thank you

I suggest you call them directly. When we ordered it the eggs were runny. I'm assuming that's the dish. Sorry I can't help more.

I recently stopped by Karenderya in Nyack looking for some good Asian comfort food, and it definitely hit the spot. Known for delicious, made-from-scratch dishes, they were flavorful, fresh, and clearly cooked with care. The menu offers a wonderful introduction to Filipino cuisine, with hearty, satisfying dishes that feel comforting, taste scrumptious, and speaking for myself - as I rarely go to Filipino eateries due to my location, unique. The cashier/waitress was attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout my visit. While the atmosphere is fairly simple and not really the reason to come here, the focus is clearly on the food, and that's where Karenderya shines. This is an excellent option for takeout, and many of the dishes would be perfect to bring to a potluck or family gathering. Despite Nyack's often challenging parking situation, I found parking easy enough nearby, which was a pleasant surprise. Service can be slow when crowded, be forwarned. If you're looking for authentic, delicious Filipino-inspired food and don't need a fancy dining room, Karenderya is absolutely worth a visit.

I came here after a hike on Saturday to meet up with the Millennial Chum for a late lunch/early dinner. It had been a while since my last trip to Nyack (honestly it might have been their Halloween pet costume contest a few years ago, when a Mandalorian-inspired outfit won instead of the much-deserved Marty McFly from Back to the Future, but it is what it is), and wasn't looking forward to the parking situation on a nice weekend afternoon. That turned out not to be an issue because Karenderya is in the "rougher" part of town, such as it is, a few blocks from the main downtown area closer to 287. Not bad, but a little more blue collar. And more parking spots! I liked the vibe inside. Kind of quiet and understated, with a spiffy little bar to the side and a lot of old school wooden chairs/tables. We were probably a very strange sight - I was trying not to look like too much of a mess after being on the trails all day, and my chum was the exact opposite, classy perfection after a bridal or baby shower. To their credit, no one here batted an eye and they let us sit at a table of our choosing. We opted for a window seat and kept an eye out for the pooches. I knew going in that the one item I had to order was the lumpia from the apps section, which is pretty much the only Filipino food I'm familiar with. I used to work with a Filipino who'd make these for an annual event, and they were delicious, basically an edgy spring roll that has pork and seasoning in them. Super tasty, and these were exactly like I remembered them - a real highlight. It came with a sweet chili sauce that perfectly complemented the savory rolls. I decided to also get the crispy potatoes with calamansi bagoong aioli; another banger. Again, the apps rock. Even if you're not that comfortable with edgier, ethnic food, these are the perfect balance of unique but also safe and mainstream in a lot of ways. The entree was a tougher call for me but I went with the Fried Crispy Chicken, the rice bowl version. Eh. I think my biggest issue was that it's pretty dry - there's a soy sauce accompaniment but it's not one of my favorites (that's arguably on me, right?). As a result, even though the chicken itself was packed with some flavor, overall this could have used something else. This also comes up with katsu chicken for me - I really only like it if it's got the curry too. Lesson learned. I did bring a lot of it home and enjoyed it significantly more when I was able to rescue it with some of my BBQ sauce. We weren't in a rush so I wasn't paying particularly close attention to it, but the service seemed fine. Maybe it took a little longer to order but that might just be my perception because I was pretty famished post-hike. Everyone we interacted with was very nice; again, I think you give bonus points given that I probably looked like a wild animal and yet was treated like a human. This may not be at the very top of my list in the area, but there was enough here to justify a return trip for sure. And it was nice to avoid the chaos of the downtown area and quickly get in and out of this tourist trap.

The restaurant is cantina style so you order what you want and they pack it for you. I go there specifically for their "breakfast all day" deal, which includes garlic fried rice, 2 eggs, and your choice of protein/dish, along with a bottle of water for - guess how much?! - $11 cash or you could pay with a credit card with the additional 3% credit card fee. But you get sooooo much food! I couldn't finish everything, so I had to take the rest home. I usually get the longsilog, which is a sweet and savory sausage. Soooo good! When I went this time, I decided to try their tapsilog (marinated beef which is also sweet and savory) and that was delicious, too. My mouth is watering thinking about the meal I had there. Next time, I do also want to try the daingsilog, which is the dried fish. I love Filipino dried fish but not the fish afterwards when I cook it at home, so this is a good place to get this if you want it. If you love Filipino food or want to try Filipino food, this is definitely the place. Again, super sweet people who work there and all their customers are super nice, too. This is the place that everyone seems to stop by for a quick and filling and delicious meal either to take home or eat there. It got pretty busy after I sat down to eat. There are other Filipino restaurants in Bergenfield but I personally like this place because it's simple, authentic, home-cooked food, and it's cantina style, so it's not overpriced. There are sit down Filipino restaurants but they are more expensive with different but they do have more extensive menus. So, it's up to you what kind of dining experience you want. Things to know before you go: -They do have other proteins/dishes other than what is on the menu, so definitely ask if they have anything else they would recommend. -Don't forget to get some vinegar from the big jug to dip your protein in. Elevates the umami of your food! They have condiment cups at the counter for you to get your vinegar to eat there or to take home. -When you order, they simply give you the food and you have to grab your own utensils and napkins which are at the counter. -I also got some Shanghai lumpia, too, and they are 50 cents each. Theirs are really good! -They also have bubble tea. -Seating is limited, so if you are a big group, it might not be possible for everyone to sit, so plan accordingly. Maybe get it to go and eat at someone's house or the park?
