This is a hidden gem for good and affordable Filipino food…read more Though it might look like a plain little restaurant, when you walk in, you are greeted by such friendly people who are always so helpful and sweet when you have questions, especially if you don't know what certain dishes are. The restaurant is cantina style so you order what you want and they pack it for you. I go there specifically for their "breakfast all day" deal, which includes garlic fried rice, 2 eggs, and your choice of protein/dish, along with a bottle of water for - guess how much?! - $11 cash or you could pay with a credit card with the additional 3% credit card fee. But you get sooooo much food! I couldn't finish everything, so I had to take the rest home. I usually get the longsilog, which is a sweet and savory sausage. Soooo good! When I went this time, I decided to try their tapsilog (marinated beef which is also sweet and savory) and that was delicious, too. My mouth is watering thinking about the meal I had there. Next time, I do also want to try the daingsilog, which is the dried fish. I love Filipino dried fish but not the fish afterwards when I cook it at home, so this is a good place to get this if you want it. If you love Filipino food or want to try Filipino food, this is definitely the place. Again, super sweet people who work there and all their customers are super nice, too. This is the place that everyone seems to stop by for a quick and filling and delicious meal either to take home or eat there. It got pretty busy after I sat down to eat. There are other Filipino restaurants in Bergenfield but I personally like this place because it's simple, authentic, home-cooked food, and it's cantina style, so it's not overpriced. There are sit down Filipino restaurants but they are more expensive with different but they do have more extensive menus. So, it's up to you what kind of dining experience you want. Things to know before you go: -They do have other proteins/dishes other than what is on the menu, so definitely ask if they have anything else they would recommend. -Don't forget to get some vinegar from the big jug to dip your protein in. Elevates the umami of your food! They have condiment cups at the counter for you to get your vinegar to eat there or to take home. -When you order, they simply give you the food and you have to grab your own utensils and napkins which are at the counter. -I also got some Shanghai lumpia, too, and they are 50 cents each. Theirs are really good! -They also have bubble tea. -Seating is limited, so if you are a big group, it might not be possible for everyone to sit, so plan accordingly. Maybe get it to go and eat at someone's house or the park?

It was our first time trying Filipino food and wasn't sure what to order. The owner/chef was so sweet and gave us recommendations. We tried the tapsilog which came with rice and the smoked fish with noodles and veggies. She also recommended we take the vinegar sauce on the side and we really enjoyed that too! There are a few tables here but mostly a quick lunch or takeout restaurant. We will be back to try other dishes soon!

I didn't like it or hate it. It was unremarkable. * Kare-Kare: It didn't taste like traditional Kare-Kare. It looked like Kare-Kare with more of an orange tint, but it lacked the peanut flavor. I could barely taste even a hint of peanut. I wondered if this was how it was made in a different province. In any case, I was very disappointed. * BBQ Pork Skewers: Cooked well with good flavor. * White Rice: Included. It was Filipino white rice cooked in a rice cooker. How does one rate this? I felt it was hit or miss. Some of the dishes were good, some underwhelming. I might try other dishes in the future.

The crispy pata was perfect, and the sinigang was so sour -- a great soup for the cold weather we had. We were so full but were glad we said yes to dessert. The cassava cake was served warm, it was probably one of the best ones we've had. From the moment we stepped in, we were made to feel like we were home! We also found out that the lady who served us is from the same province as us. I always appreciate when they're accommodating to our kids -- she asked us what our son wanted to watch and she played some Blippi on YouTube so we could eat in peace since no one else was dining there that evening. Also, I wanted to add that their restrooms were immaculately clean! It's always a great bonus.

The service is not as friendly as I remember from the Elmwood Park days, but the food still makes up for it. I'll always stay loyal to Mama Fina's. It is very casual. - Pork Sisig (5/5): some of the best Sisig I've had. The pork belly is SO crispy even after we were almost done eating! The sauce wasn't too overpowering and heavy. Loved the fresh zing of the red onions. The spicy one is the way to go. - Garlic Fried Rice (4.5/5): I could eat this on its own. So good. The rice was a bit mushy but otherwise great taste - Kare-kare (4/5): a soupier variation of the peanut based sauce I've tried. The oxtail chunks were tender, but all sliced really thin and very few pieces of each. Also lacking a bit in the green beans and okra- flavor was good though. I like the Sisig the best. Only a bit bummed by the high price and small portion sizes
