5/26 This is not my first time here; my first time was when they first opened. I do see improvement since the first time I ate here, but I will get back to that. Walking in I was properly greeted and seated immediately. This place looks like a large cafeteria with a lot of windows. The server came over and I requested hot tea with lemon and honey. He came back with all that I asked for except for the main ingredient...The TEA BAG. From that point it just did not feel right, instead of getting up and leaving, I asked for another waiter. Another waiter turned this entire experience around. I ordered a vegetable omelet which came with home fries and toast. I did not like the home fries in the past because they were organic, no fluff, no extra, just straight up cubed potatoes. The changes made this meal well worth the trip. The homes fries have onions and peppers, a big plus for me, so the home fries did not disappoint. The omelet consisted of broccoli, onions, and mushroom. I was offered hot sauce to spruce up the taste and give it a kick. I do believe and always will believe that the server can make or break the experience. I now have BLD on the list of places to go. Came across this diner in my search for some early morning breakfast. I can say I left BLD Diner pleasantly surprised. It's only a 10 min drive from co-op city area via highway. They have onsite parking . I was greeted upon arrival by the hostess and immediately seated. They have a mixture of booth and tables. The diner looked clean. I saw a waiter bus the table after someone left. They cleaned the tables, chairs, and swept the floor. I find that some places forget to sweep after customers and I hate to step on food so I was glad to see that being done. My server was kind and attentive throughout my visit. I ordered the country skillet with soft scrambled eggs and pancakes. The country skillet is delicious. Crisp home fries, assortment of veggies alongside bite sized pieces of bacon. The eggs were exactly how I like them. Most diners overcook them even when asking for soft scrambled. I would definitely recommend this dish. Unfortunately I didn't like the pancakes. The texture seemed off, almost gritty like and I couldn't get past it. So I took one star off for that. Both dishes were large portions and could be split easily by two people. This is now my new favorite dinner in the New Rochelle/Larchmont area. I ordered their Santa Fe skillet with over easy eggs and my first impression was that their breakfast potatoes were perfect and satisfying. I usually skip the potatoes as they come out soft and mushy but this was the first time I had them properly crispy and it was absolutely delightful. I thought it was a generously portioned plate , I ended up taking home leftovers. 10/10 would come back just for the potatoes. read more

I ordered a plain Cheeseburger. Their smallest & cheapest offering is their "Half-Pound All American burger" that costs $18. I ordered it Medium-Rare as I always do with Diners & takeout. What I received made fast food burgers look like a 4 course meal. Obviously, how you order it doesn't matter because I received a Burger that was barely 1/4" thick that was burnt on the outside & overly Well-Done. This was their version of Med-Rare, which should be lightly seared on the outside & mostly pink on the inside. To say it was Dry would be generous. If this burger started out at 1/2 lbs, most of it must have been fat considering the thin, hard, dry hockey puck that I was served. The omelette was burned. Eggs shouldn't be brown when they are cooked. The coffee was also weak. Ordered in and everything was inedible. The pepperoni on the fries was old and tasted like actual garbage. The honey mustard that came with the chicken fingers like melted butter. Absolutely no flavor. The chicken soup had pieces of chicken that were old and moldy looking. What better way to kill time on a rainy Saturday than having breakfast at a diner? BLD most certainly has a following, as at 10:00a.m. there was a 20 min wait. Being smaller than most diners this was no surprise. No worries, less than 15 mins later we were seated. My obligatory Corned Beef was pulled rather than the customary commercial Hash. The title clearly said pulled, but I still wanted to try. Appreciative of the flavors, but not a fan of shredded/pulled type meats...looking at you Ropa Vieja! Anyway, my eggs were perfectly poached, and all else hit the spot. The Mediterranean Eggs served with toasted Ciabatta was a hit. Salad was dressed just so and made for a "I'll have this again" type meal. In place of Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice there was Tropicana. No thanks. A disappointment as Fresh Squeezed was what we hoped for. Not a deal breaker. The staff here are very hardworking and attentive. I've had some not so great experiences since my last review. Management has always done their best to make it better but because of some back to back issues, I likely won't frequent them. We've ordered food for pick-up and eaten at their small tables out front, having had really good meals. One time we ordered some food and went to a park with a blanket to just enjoy the outdoors and had a great time with great food. I had been ordering their avo toast with salmon and egg for some time and a few times, I received less than quality preparation. One time they packaged completely burnt toasts and I hacld to call and complain because they were inedible. They made it right and I was able to get do overs but one of the toasts had a hair in the packaging, under the avo toast. I again called to complain and they made it right but eventually I just began making my own avo toasts because they're very easy to prepare. For the most part, their food is usually prepared well and tastes good but because of the inconsistencies I've experienced, I'm not in a rush to go back any time soon. read more

Friends of mine said this was their go-to diner, so I gave it a shot. Service was attentive, and the food was great. Came here during the pandemic and dined in when it was able to open up. Food is consistent and delicious. There's ample parking in the back and the wait times are reasonable. They take your number and you wait in your car about 10 minutes for them to call you in. Service is fast and all the servers are attentive and help one another. Our server had his hands full so another server from another section helped him out and took our orders. Great teamwork to help out customers! In the past we had takeout. Our usual orders were the: - black jack wrap - 3 scrambled eggs with black beans, scallions and jack cheese served with potatoes and chili - 3 eggs over easy w/ bacon The one time we dined in we had: - Philly cheese steak panini - with garlic spread, onions, peppers, mozzarella cheese and cajun spice - 2 eggs over easy and ham with potatoes - oatmeal (this was a generous portion - they they only serve it until a certain time - I think 2?) We had a fantastic time at BLD! We are diner lovers who decided to come in on a whim looking for food off I95, and found our new favorite diner in the NY/CT area! Easy to park. Loved the marble tables, big booths and classic diner feel without it being kitschy. Our server Antonio was so kind and made our time all the more enjoyable. The food!!! - perfect diner coffee refilled frequently to stay hot and didn't need any sprucing up to make it drinkable! 5/5 - cornmeal based pancakes were crispy, fluffy, flavorful, and a beautiful color! 5/5! - breakfast potatoes were banging! flavorful, crispy outside and tender inside! 5/5! - bacon cheddar omelette with jalapeño - excellent. next time we'll amp it up with some extra cheese and bacon! 4.7/5! - breakfast quesadilla wrap (without bacon) - perfect balance between cheese and egg, I'd ask for a little extra jalapeño + tomato if I got it again. 4.5/5! We visited this establishment with our twin toddlers in anticipation of a yummy lunch. There was only one party ahead of us and upon check in the host informed us it would be a 15-20 minute wait, no problem. While we were waiting the kids needed to go to the bathroom so I took them while my husband remained at the front. The diner called while I was in the bathroom with the kids but I couldn't pick up as I was managing two four year olds in a diner bathroom, plus my husband was seated directly in front of the host so I knew he'd get our table when our name was called. When the kids and I came out of the bathroom (maybe a minute after the diner called) I was surprised to see my husband there still waiting, I thought they'd take him to our table. I asked the host "isn't our table ready?" He said, you didn't pick up the phone so we went to the next person on the list. My husband was sitting right in front of the host and there were only two other parties waiting in the restaurant! Why not say my name out loud? Even if he somehow didn't remember that my husband was previously waiting with a woman and two kids just audibly saying my name would have sufficed. We left immediately and had a great lunch at 179 Bar & Grill, where we had a great meal and excellent service. I look forward to returning to 179 and am grateful that the lack of attentiveness at BLD led us to a new favorite. read more

I am so fit to be tired with the service here ! The food is good the service sucks ! This is 2 nd time I drive there at a late hour 9:30 because my family wanted something to eat . I order take out I order 2 things and the server out loud repeats and what bread they can put it on ... she says whole wheat , she said white toast I says please make sure there's mayo she says ok yea you want mayo ? Then I say now I must get 1 more thing I'll get the quesadillas chicken done . These people set up my bag I'm home open the bag for 4 people to eat and there's 2 quesadillas with french fries in the bag . I'm so confused , I obviously at 10 pm am not driving back nor at this point can I order from anyone who delivers. I cannot believe I went back this is the second time, because they don't deliver did I get not everything I ordered ???? What a mess never again . Was craving a solid meal late one night and looked up the best diner we could find. BLD delivered with a delicious meal. I ordered the short rib eggs benedict (a fairly inventive take on a staple brunch item). The egg was slightly runny and the short rib was tender and flavorful; a perfect balance with the crispy muffin the proteins rested on. We also ordered a beef souvlaki which was solid. This was my first time here. It is a nice diner, on a smaller then normal diner. Usually diners have a very overwhelming menu, and atmosphere. This was nice and quiet. Service was excellent. Was in the area and needin' some feedin' and a parking spot. Located on the east side of Route 1, this diner seemed to be the perfect location. Took a counter seat - built in entertainment... Diner fare nowadays tends to be same old same old, but there were a couple of pleasant surprises in store for me here. First, taters were deep fried cubes, laced with veggies and seasoned lightly but tastily. The rye bread was a pair of thick healthy grain slices - so much better than average. Cool classic diner in the middle of town. I honestly didn't have high expectations since I have never heard of this place but went in nonetheless. I was pleasantly surprised. I think this is one of the better diner experiences I have had. It is a clean restaurant with friendly service and plenty of room. They also have ample parking in the back which is also an added plus. The food was also spot on. The mediterean chopped salad was a good portion and pretty good. I stopped by this diner for the first time. I had basic breakfast food. I usually place a high score based on coffee and this place has good coffee. The food was pretty good a little pricey for what I had. The is a big parking lot in the back which is nice. Bumping this up to a 4 - great experience here tonight. BLD isn't large, but it's clean and has an inviting color scheme. I decided to go with a salad tonight and chose the "5 Shades of Green" - which was a chopped salad containing granny smith apples, avocado, pistachios, golden raisins, cucumber, and gorgonzola. The salad was dressed nicely and served with four pita slices. Overall very tasty - and I commend the BLD for being innovative with their salads, all the others on the menu sounded equally as good.
