After moving to the area, we wanted to try Claire's, and we (my husband and I are very very picky/particular/selective) will be back! There were a few folks in front of us waiting to be seated, it was a busy Sunday around 1 PM, and we were pleased to learn breakfast is served all day (Sundays they're open 7 am - 9 pm) but also there is pretty much something for everyone (salads, fresh roasted turkey dinner, teriyaki chicken, lasagne, and a whole lot more). My husband had the Monte Cristo and thought it was amazing (served with a thick slice of ripe canteloupe and a small cup of orange sherbet). It's made with the turkey they roast there daily, and they had the BEST strawberry freezer jam either of us had ever experienced. I had the turkey sandwich on whole wheat, which was a very nutty/oaty wheat bread (YAY!), side of potato salad. Turkey was slightly on the dry side but still delicious. We both had coffee, and our total was $26 including a generous tip. There were locals who eat there all the time and also some in or out of town ferry traffic as well and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. They were busy, service was good, not great, but still good. Coffee refills came promptly. 4.00 old coffee, 2.29 tartar sauce, 1.00 for pie to go. Half a French dip sandwich 15.99. They need to warn you that you need to take out a small loan to eat there. The waitress was nice but while reviewing the bill she yelled out " I only work here". I've been going there with my family for years but it's a end of an era. Never again. Strangely I had never been here. But I recently meet some friends for lunch who choose this place based solely on their love of the monte cristo. I must admit although not my favorite type of restaurant, I was pleasantly suprised. Menu had a lot of variety. The inside was large, with a full lounge area which I had never noticed from the street. I had a salad, which was pretty tasty. Best of all though was the service, we got tons of refills and attention from the wait staff. I'll probably be back, seems like a place my boyfriend will enjoy. read more

*sigh* I was really hoping to find a new breakfast spot but this turned out to be a huge disappointment. The scrambled eggs were like rubber (a la camp as a kid), I ended up with the skin from the top of a hollandaise that had sat too long, the poached egg was far too underdone and the bacon was cold and flavorless (I actually asked if it was turkey bacon). I'm a little divided on this place. We ordered the halibut fish & chips, the pan fried oysters, and spaghetti with meat balls. The fried items were well done, fresh and crispy. But the toast, was kind of burnt, and the spaghetti was so-so. Claire's is a diner, not an upscale establishment, so I'm rating it compared to other diners. Service was quick and friendly. read more

I'm weird in that I love to be adventurous with my choices of food, but I also crave "old people" dishes sometimes as well. Claire's is where I go when I want my consistently good yet slightly bland food fix. Their breakfasts are good, especially if you love spicy Italian fennel sausage. Give that a try if you can handle a little heat in the morning. Over the years I've probably had most of the breakfast items on the menu and they've all been consistently good, but not great. The lunch and dinner menu items are just what you'd expect from a home town restaurant that caters to the older crowd, but is definitely a cut above Denny's. The prices are reasonable and the drinks you get in the bar will put hair on your chest. I'd normally give Claire's three stars, but I've been going there since I was about five years old so I don't have the heart to give it anything less than four. If consistently good (but not great) and slightly bland is what you're looking for, Claire's is where you need to go. read more

While occasionally passing through the Edmond's downtown area, I've always wondered about Claire's, since it's been around for a long while. Well, after Sunday brunch, apparently nothing special. The menu was full of the usual breakfast staples you'd see anywhere else so nothing here that would set them apart. Unfortunately our waiter was slow with service, though she wasn't slammed, she was quick to refill coffee at our neighboring tables, however not ours =( We were seated before 10:30am and didn't get our check to leave until past noon! My bf's country fried steak was not at all crispy yet chewy & rubbery, and the gravy was the worst we've both every tasted when on the menu, it state's the country gravy is "homemade & special" to claire's. Yuck! The omelet I had was simple, diced ham & bell peppers but was rather greasy. We were very disappointed with food and service, at least now we know! This is a great local diner. We mostly come for breakfast, and they have a full bar if you are in the mood for a Bloody Mary. The servers are really friendly, the prices are fair, and there is ample seating and parking. The food is standard American diner, but it is well-made and they serve the full menu all the time in case you want a burger or salad for breakfast. read more

Yes, I will write this review in several places. Been here many times. Today, I drove 25 minutes and struggled to get a parking place (as usual). There was a waiting list and I was added to it behind 3 parties who got sat fairly fast. When it came to my turn I was last on the waitlist and waited patiently, but when the next guests showed up, they were seated promptly before me, then another couple came in - same thing WTF? When I questioned the seating hostess I was offered a seat at the bar (which on this occasion I didn't want) So I left to take my business elsewhere. Shame on you, I won't be back. read more

I've been going to Claire's for many years. Previously I always liked the food and service. Today was a bad experience in that the service was lousy. The waitress, if I can call her that, brought my breakfast and that was the last I saw of her until I was done eating and even then I had to raise my arm and yell when I saw her in the distance. A few minutes passed and she finally showed up with my check!! Never once did she come by to ask if I needed anything else, if I needed a refill of coffee, or anything else on the menu. There were only a handful of people in there so she wasn't overly busy with other customers. Don't know what rock management found her under, but she shouldn't be in a restaurant. Next time I'll go Macdonald's where the service is non existent, but still better than this. read more

This is a friendly place tucked away in downtown Edmonds. Walking in is sort of like coming home to the sixties diner of yesteryear. Service can sometimes be a bit slow but since we come with friends after events in which we are looking for a place to visit and catch up, that's perfect!! The bar is a small but adequate space in which You can go with Just a couple people or a large group of around ten.This is a place that would be great for anyone from a lone diner, family, or large group event. The dining area is spacious, has tons of natural light, and has a multitude of seating for large groups too. I saw that they have call ahead and take out food last time as well! The service is pretty good, breakfast, lunch, and dinner is always homemade And feels like down home cooking. We have been going to Claire's for over 30 years. We have always enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere, until last weekend. I cannot begin to explain how disappointing the entire experience was. The portions were ridiculously small. My husband's four-egg avocado omelet looked like it was MAYBE two eggs and they charged $16.98 for it. My daughter's fettucine alfredo was barely one-cup of food. My sandwich was good, although our server forgot my side salad until I was halfway done with my meal. We ordered an appetizer, which she also forgot, and then brought out right before we were finished eating. I requested a refill on my soda and never got it. We let the server know that it was our daughter's birthday and that we would like dessert. Apparently, they don't do anything special for birthdays, anymore. All in all, we spent way too much money for what we received. Average food, horrible service, very small servings. I am sad to say we have no intention of ever returning. read more

Amazing little restaurant!! my boyfriend and I came to seattle from out of state, the food here was absolutely amazing and all the staff were super friendly and nice! we love how this place is actually open for breakfast times rather then basically all other "breakfast" places that open at like 10 on the weekdays. Me and my husband go to Claire's all the time. It's a huge restaurant, so we're never having to wait (even on the busy days). The food is affordable and tasty and the drinks are nice and strong. There's an award up front that says "Best Comfort Food", and that about sums it up. Nothing hugely surprising about the food here, you'll get exactly what you think you'll get. Had the fried clams, and they tasted just like how I imagined them to. Easy, basic, diner food. Wish I had ordered a slice of pie, but they were a notch too expensive. I love this place! Very clean, nice quiet restaurant with very reasonably priced food. I recently ate in their lounge area and paid $4 bucks for their chicken sliders! Their coffee is delicious, and the staff is so friendly. This is what I wish every local diner was like. Plus it's a mere skip and a hop from the beach! Of course, I go during off-peak times, which helps in almost any restaurant; better service, no waiting, the staff are not as stressed out, and the food is always better. Fortunately this is one of the few places open beyond 6pm in little ol' Edmonds. It's nice to be able to eat something if you're not one of those folks who goes to bed at 8pm. read more

Good enough service. Solid 3. Exactly what you would expect from an American regular diner. Not too homey, but the food was delicious and the menu is seriously enormous, though a little hard to navigate as it looks more like a resume. They have a vast choice of appetizers, seafood, sandwiches, omelets, pasta, dessert... You name it. I had a steak and margarita. Hubby has nachos. For appetizer price his nachos were a meal. Lots of yummy toppings and the guac was delicious. His came with salsa, sour cream and guac on the side automatically and mine came with small side of green beans, choice of potato and soup or salad. The bacon was overcooked, the poached eggs were cooked hard, the hollandaise was bland and flavorless, and the tomato was low quality and underripe. They actually cook their turkey..you know..a whole turkey in the oven every day ..same with all their food..their soup, etc...it is comfort food..not greasy but solild home cooked food..we eat here frequently as it is a dependable experience. Sometimes the service is a tad slow but they are very friendly..my SO is your worst client when it come to ordering..could I have extra cranberry sauce..more of this..less of that etc...they always accommodate very grasciously ..without the rolling of the eyes! I was with a large group on Labor Day. It wasn't very crowded. It was my first visit and my assumptions about the service were based on previous reviews, so I didn't complain about not getting my food, for over an hour. I was forgotten until I got the waiter's attention and asked for an appetizer. I suppose I could have said something when he came around and asked if everyone was alright, but I saw other people in the group that didn't have food so I just assumed there would be another round of food coming to the table. The new updated lounge is absolutely beautiful. The mixology drinks are a great addition to the menu. I was able to take in some Karaoke in the lounge, the speakers on the ceiling make the acoustics pretty amazing. Claire's is conveniently located uphill from the ferry and one of the best scuba diving sites in the Pacific Northwest, so I've eaten here more than a dozen times. I rarely eat breakfast, so at whatever hour I stop in - morning, afternoon or evening - I am very likely to ask for something from the breakfast menu...and I've not been disappointed. The service has been consistently friendly and as prompt as conditions and staffing permitted. The coffee is Farmer Brothers, and it doesn't compete with premium coffees but it isn't toxic waste. I've been here alone, with my wife, and with 11 other divers. On all occasions, I've had no reason for complaint. Briefly, I have to wonder what some reviewers expect of this place. read more

I live in Seattle but make the trek to Edmonds often to walk by the water with my True Love. I've walked by Claire's numerous times but have never eaten there. I'm glad I stopped last night for dinner! I am a fan of diner food and am tired of Seattle food pretentiousness! Give me a big platter with lots of mashed potatoes and gravy and I'm in Heaven!
