I really enjoyed my visit to City Egg! The breakfast was fresh and really good. I only give City Egg three stars right now because the service was not really friendly overall from everyone. I would also say probably because of the order of how they cooked my food, the eggs, and meat were hot but my hashbrowns were cold... I still ate them because I was hungry and they were good as well. Will I go back and try City Egg again? Absolutely because the food, prices, and atmosphere is definitely worth it. You can sit outside and have a small view of the water or you can sit inside and see the city life in action. It's worth trying out for yourself if you haven't already. Cinnamon French toast was excellent. There's no real service here as it's all kiosks and counter. Basically, you have zero interaction with staff. But that keeps it fast. Clean dinning room and nice spot right on the river. Good stuff. read more

The pancakes were flavorful and fluffy, the Wisconsin scrambled was good but the Uncle Moose left a lot to be desired. The over easy eggs were undercooked. I had very high hopes of this breakfast & lunch joint. It was very clean, with nice bathrooms and simple self ordering & nice screens when your order is ready. On the drive back from Columbus, I had to leave earlier than I would have liked to and had to get home early. I was going to stop for lunch in Toledo, but it ended up being breakfast instead. I had to find a restaurant to eat at on the fly, and I decided on City Egg. Pulling up, the place is downtown and I parked on the street. Surprisingly, it wasn't as busy as I had expected. I didn't see to many people inside and none of them were sitting down. Lots of carryout orders going on here! I asked if dine in was available, and fortunately, yes it was. They are pretty automated here, and you order via computer screen when you arrive. They have 3 different portals available and a paper menu to look at before hand like I did to make a decision a bit quicker so you don't hold up the line. (not that there was a line here, but if there was, I'd still read it!) I loved their options and went with the Portobello omelet with toast and an orange juice. You have the option to pay cash or card, and I chose cash. It said to see cashier. There was one lady working the other side of the counter and a few seconds later, she asked who was Amy. LOL. I said me! She took my cash and gave me my change, and that was that. They have a big TV screen overhead that shows where your foods in line at. It even says when it's ready. They also call out your name to ensure you are aware. About 10 good minutes passed and my food was ready. The screen told me so, and so did the hostess/counter lady. I was impressed with how nice it looked along with a great taste as well. Food was very filling and I really enjoyed my breakfast here. It was fun to watch everyone place their order and watch as the food came out. I am glad I got to stop here and eat, and I don't understand why some folks are put off by this place? It's not terribly expensive but not dirt cheap either. Prices are on point and I was satisified here with everything after I was done. The food was reasonably priced. You can purchase an entire meal for under $15. City egg is like a chic restaurant. You walk in and grab a menu, order and pay at the kiosk. After this, while your order is preparing, they have a tv screen which shows the status of your order. While waiting you can pick up your utensils and condiments. Once your food is ready they call you to come grab your order. I ordered an egg white omelet and I thought the cheese would be inside the omelet, but they laid it on top of the omelet and it was too much cheese. The hash browns were enjoyable and the fruit and the juice were delicious. I would try this place again. The service was quick. The food was good- nothing epic but decent. We went on July 4th. First off, the food was great! The issue was technology. The restaurant has 3 self-serve kiosks but only 2 work. However, they won't close it nor tell the customers until they fail transactions enough to ask the counter why it's not working. Also, if you go with a group, make sure all meals are are one order, or you will wait 10-15 minutes between each order. We learned the hard way today. I think they have a good thing going but need at least 1 more cook instead of 5 drink pourers, and to figure out how to streamline to go orders as well. This place is perfect. We are in town for the weekend, visiting York Museum, and botanical garden, and thought this sounded promising. The space is sunny and bright, the dishes are tasty, and the coffee is great. (Get the dark roast.) but would really sense this place apart is the excellent ordering system. You look at a menu board to choose your dish, then do your own data entry, kiosk, so you can easily customize your dish in a few minutes, they call your name and you pick up your breakfast on the calendar. super quick, super easy, I wish more places did this. I will admit, I am not a fan of City Egg's parent company Scramblers. So when I heard they were opening up one of their new fast-casual concept restaurants downtown, I was apprehensive. Based on the fact that Scramblers has been around for a while, and it was opening week at this new City Egg location, I figured they would be working with their A game. And sadly, I think they are. Placing an order online, I was impressed that it gave a 10-minute turn-around! I jumped in my car and headed down to the new Promedica Parking lot. Finding a free parking spot on Water street, I ended up in the restaurant 10 minutes after placing my order. As I entered, I was impressed and surprised with the build out. It looks nothing like the suburban vibed Scramblers and instead offers a clean, industrial bright and shiny aesthetic with all of the staff standing behind the counter. My order was sitting in a bag, I grabbed it and was off. By the time I got back home, it was right around 20 minutes from the time of order. The Fiesta Chicken salad looked like it had been sitting out for hours. The romaine was brown on the edges and limp. The omelette was hot but lacked any seasoning. The hashbrowns while crispy as ordered, were dry and cold on the inside, once again with zero seasoning. The toast suffered from being slightly steamed in the container, but also seemed to not be toasted at all. Just coldish limp sweet wheat bread with barely a pass of butter. It's a great spot for meetings and with all of the suburbanites working downtown these days, I am sure this spot will win people over, but it's not for me. I've lived in downtown for two years and frequently came by to pick food up or sat on the patio and ate. My dog and I were always welcomed and I loved that about this place. The food is good, the drinks are nice, and it's walking distance from my apartment. I've seen MANY people with dogs in this restaurant. Imagine my surprise when I hear, yelled from the back doorway, "IS THAT A SERVICE ANIMAL?" I explained to Tray, the manager, that I had been in her many times and been told by the other managers that it was fine that my dog was in here. He yelled again that, and I'm paraphrasing, he thinks things have changed and I need to leave. I am still speechless that I was treated so unprofessionally. I understand that policies can change, however I find it incredibly unprofessional that he would not only yell across the restaurant and demand to know if my dog is a service dog (she is, which is beside the point) and then continue to yell, from across the restaurant at me about it, in front of other patrons. This is a small cafe in a Downtown area surrounded by apartments that are pet friendly. If you are going to enforce this policy I suggest you put a sign on the door and have a conversation with Tray about how to handle this in the future. For a restaurant that has a tag line "Start Fresh" my experience wasn't anything but that...paying almost 10 dollars for avocado toast and what I received was toast with black, not fresh, avocado. I can't understand how this place has 3.5 stars. It was excellent. Simple with good tech to order, yes it is a little more expensive than you might think but they don't hound you for a tip for a fast casual concept. The inside was clean, bright, and enjoyable and the food was delicious with huge portions. The other reviews are pretty much spot on. The place is cute, the food is pretty good, and it's pretty clear the employees wish they were anywhere else. The fruit bowl was kind of disappointing. It's nothing like the picture in the menu. I get that precut fruit is expensive but there wasn't much to it. There were 5 grapes in there too, but you can't see them In the picture. On site ordering is a breeze with the ordering kiosks. Online ordering is available as well. City Egg is affiliated with the wonderful "Scrambler Marie" chain of breakfast/brunch restaurants, so they know how to do breakfast right! They offer some interesting fresh juice drinks that I intend on sampling during future visits. They do offer somewhat limited hours (6:30 am to 3:00 pm). I came here on a Saturday morning with my fiancée and we loved it! We've heard about this place and we were out and about close to Downtown so we decided to try it out. Parking is hard to find unless it's the weekend because you can park for free on meters. You order yourself on their touch screen computers and it's very easy and customizable. They have many options to choose from but we went with some vanilla lattes, a western omelette , and a scrambled egg and pancake combo with fruit (as shown in the picture). My iced vanilla latte was actually really good and my western omelette was one of the better ones I've had. The toast they have is so thick and amazing. My fiancée's pancakes were so good and they were also crunchy which is very unique. The service was good even though we ordered ourselves. They helped us with the menu and they called out our food for us and told us to enjoy and have a good day. We had no complaints for this place at all.
