As a vegetarian I really can't review most of the food here. There are only three vegetarian options and I'm allergic to all but one (the bean and cheese burrito). I do really like the bean and cheese burrito here though. The refried beans aren't too spicy and the tortillas are excellent. What made me want to leave a review was how great this place was to my sister-in-law with Celiac. There aren't really a ton of options here for someone allergic to gluten, but the wait staff and management were really helpful in finding those options. Our waitress went back to the kitchen to find out which salad dressings were safe to eat my sister-in-law didn't get sick. read more

Overpriced, too gimmicky, and the Tex-mex sauce was gross. It was slathered all over my plate. I said I didn't like it, and instead of replacing the meal with a different sauce, they simply brought another sauce. There was no way I could eat half my meal because of the sauce. Tonight, my family went to Chuy's for the first time. Lots of hype over this new place and had to check it out. There were 8 of us and our waitress (Sarah) was fantastic and attentive eventhough the place was crazy busy and we were more demanding than usual with 3 kids and 2 grandparents. Chips came out nice and warm, salsa is very spicy (lots of diced jalapenos) but good in small doses. The decor was cool, chairs a bit uncomfortable and the place was really loud....but I'm there for the food. Well, I was expecting something fantastic - I was hoping for a different take on the typical Mexican restaurant. What a disappointment Chuy's turned out to be. Rather than ramble on about better restaurants around town, I'll just explain my experience here. I had the veggie combo (veggie burrito, chile relleno, green chile rice, refried beans), wife had the chicken enchilada and chalupa. My wife didn't have much to say about her meal and picked through most of it and said it lacked flavor. My dish looked like it went through a flame thrower. My plate had burned sauce covering the burrito - it was literally black and stuck to the plate. The insides of the burrito was just brown goop, an occasional onion - the whole thing just didn't taste good or have any flavor. I love chile rellenos and have had many different takes on it. The chile was stuffed with cheese of course but dipped in some kind of tasteless batter and deep fried. After scraping off the burnt crust, I could see the chef had seared the chile and that should have been fine.....could have done without the deep fryer. It just looked like Mr. Hanky on the plate, staring at me...I ignored him and had the rice which was good but not enough and beans were well beans....all the while Mr. Hanky staring at me. The chile relleno was just unappetizing. and was the sole reason I got the veggie combo. I'll stick to the local Mexican restaurants, run by families (not corporations) instead. read more

If there was a no rating I would give them a no freaking rating my meat was uncooked the waitress was taking the order with his hands in his pocket and the the prices for the food is not even worth it. Enjoyed a quick lunch with a friend. We arrived around 1:30 on a Friday. We were seated immediately. The service here was prompt and efficient. Everyone was friendly and made sure we were enjoying our experience. We ordered the tortilla soup, Chicken Fajaita's and the combo including tacos, enchilada and chalupa. The free chips and salsa were excellent! We asked for more and our take out was enough for an additional meal. Did not have room for dessert. We will be back and definitely will try the happy hour. I've always enjoyed somewhere that provides free chips and salsa! The salsa is pretty spicy, which is a plus. There's a decent happy hour with drink specials and free signature sauces for the chips. There's a nice selection of Mexican beers with full bar. The Elvis Presley memorial combo was excellent by itself, but was a little better when adding their hatch green chile sauce. We love chuy's. Everything is fresh. The tortillas are made in house, as are the chips and salsa. The rotisserie chicken is the bomb! They have a bunch of sauces to choose from and you can have it as spicy (or not) as you want. My favorites are the tomatillo and the creamy jalapeño. I haven't had anything yet that wasn't awesome. The atmosphere is quirky and fun and the servers are super nice. In fact, I love the place so much I'll forgive it for being a chain. read more

So I like the place but I have to be in the mood for it, the variety of sauces are great. But the menu there is so minimal - there queso is the best I've had !! Most of the time the service is decent. The last time we were there the girl we had openly admitted she didn't know we were her table and kept walking past us.. Really? The have delicious refried beans - the margaritas there are the smallest things ever. My husband ordered a 12$ margarita and when she brought it I asked him where's the rest ... I teeter between 3 and 4 stars. The food is good, the salsa is delish and the house marg is perfection. On our first visit our server, Alex, knocked out socks off. We told him we were new and he brought over a "special request" sauce and even did a sauce sampling. He brought over every single sauce they have and described them, knew what entrees they were each in and made dinner recommendations based on which ones we loved. All for FREE! This was a PHENOMENAL way to make meal suggestions! Sadly on later visits our other servers knew nothing about the 'daily sauce' as salsa and don't seem to know much about the menu. At least not enough to describe a basic enchilada. We will keep coming here because the food is AMAZING but the service leaves so much to be desired I don't even try with the wait staff or hostesses anymore. Restrooms are clean and well stocked, the dining room is clean and feels fairly open. Patio seating is available and we can't wait to try it. The food isn't greasy, tastes fresh and the portions are large and everything is in the $9-14 range. I really like coming in Wednesdays for the stuffed avocado! HOW COULD I FORGET!?! This is more Tex-mex than Mexican. It definitely has the chain feel. However I have found my favorite dish there... #6 combo. The salsa is downright weird when compared to other salsas but I like it. The nachos are also pretty good- best I've had in Richmond. read more

The food was outstanding. Sadly, the server rushed us throughout the meal, even offering dessert menus to my colleagues while I was still finishing my meal. I will try an evening other than a Friday, but the evident push to turn tables was extremely annoying and was a huge turn off. Music was TOO LOUD. I have never been disappointed with this place. Happy hour is great with free chips and dip. The servers have all been very friendly. Great place to take kids. Really enjoyed it here. A large family of 9 dinner. On a Friday and we were sat pretty quickly. Out waitress was great, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Food is great after a few days in DC and nyc, this felt very inexpensive. Loved the decor and stmosphere. read more

For a chain they are always consistently great. Love the one in Charlotte and Midlothian one is just as good. Great kids menu and even have virgin daiquiri's for my 6 year old. The kids love the palm tree dining room. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is my favorite. read more

I don't even know where to begin. The food is spicy and very salty. We order the guacamole and it tasted rotten. The white sauce was to salty. The rice was over seasoned and gross. I just love this place. The facility is decorated with a cool collection of things like hubcaps and pics of dogs. Free chips and salsa. You can get several other flavors as well. The father agave margarita was perfect. We sat at the bar and the waiter was friendly and attentative. I got the build an anchalada and the tortilla soup. The soup was very fresh. Not thrilled with my recent visit to Chuy's. The waiter was good, talkative, maybe a little too talkative, and very attentive. However, before we even opened the menus he was asking if we knew what we wanted to order. The food came out fairly quickly, but mine was not warm. The waiter also brought the check before we had finished eating, which I find extremely rude. We ended up staying for about 2 hours. I felt bad taking up the table, but the restaurant was not busy. The burrito was good, salsa and chips were "Taco Bell" equivalent. The people they hire are very young, more into joking around than serving the tables, and one employee I know personally (and have a restraining order against) so I'm not sure that they hire the best people, or just don't so background checks. The superstar was tres leches which was obviously made in house....I would go again just for dessert!
