I've been to a few boathouse locations. I really enjoyed the midlo location! I went with a friend who has a 1 year old and all the staff were sooooo sweet! Especially with my friends baby! Sometimes bringing babies to fancy restaurants, the staff tends to not like that. My friends child is super well behaved and our staff was great. The ambiance is so gorgeous and it's close to some water if I remember! The parking and how to get to it can be a little confusing but relatively easy to figure out. The food was delicious! I made a reservation at The Boathouse at Sunday Park for my partner's birthday and specifically included a note asking them to help make it a special experience. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had. We arrived early and were told we had to wait because tables were being cleaned, despite there being several visibly open tables. Once we were finally seated, our table still hadn't been cleaned and someone had to come wipe it down afterward, which made the wait even more frustrating. No one acknowledged the birthday at all, which honestly makes me question why they even ask about special occasions during the reservation process. The food was also very disappointing, especially the fried oysters and steamed mussels, which had a strong odor that smelled like a dirty sink. I also ordered a diet soda that was completely flat. Between the food quality and drinks, the experience just kept getting worse. On top of that, the service was slow and inattentive throughout. Overall, the experience felt unorganized, unwelcoming, and far below expectations. Will not be returning. read more

Beautiful experience at The Boathouse at Sunday Park! We had such a wonderful time dining here. Our server, Jamie Cole, was warm, attentive, and made us feel perfectly taken care of. We started with the focaccia bread, which was soft, flavorful, and the perfect beginning to our meal. I had the clam chowder, which was rich and comforting, while my friend enjoyed a fresh Caesar salad. For entrées, I ordered the rockfish, and it was absolutely amazing -- perfectly cooked, served over a risotto cake with charred tomatoes and a delicious green sauce (I don't know the name, but it tied everything together beautifully). My friend had the seafood combination -- crab cake, scallops, shrimp, broccolini, and Yukon gold mashed potatoes -- and everything was cooked to perfection. Outdoor seating is a great option, but we chose indoor seating on this beautiful 95+ June day. We were promptly seated at a cozy booth inside. The server warmly congratulated us on our anniversary and let us know that the couple across from us were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. We shared greetings and congratulations with the young couple. Our first choice of wine was not available and our server gave his recommendation for a Boathouse signature red Zinfandel. Although technically reds don't pair with our choices of apps or entrees we most often choose a bold red. The zin went well with our beautifully presented Rockefeller Roasted Oysters and entrees. The oysters were large and succulent. We both ordered from the Chef's Summer Feature menu. My wife chose the broiled seafood combination. Each seafood feature was perfectly seasoned, tender and cooked perfectly. She enjoyed what she couldn't finish the following day. I chose the Double Cut Bourbon Brined Tomahawk Pork Chop. A good thick cut is the only way to enjoy a great pork chop. Exquisitely seasoned, tender and cooked just enough, served with a peach chutney and matchstick fries, one couldn't ask for a better entree. Our server was a memorable part of our experience. I ordered an Old-Fashioned, but my cup was off-puttingly dirty on the outside, almost as if it had crusted sugar. It was a bit disappointing, especially when you're looking forward to enjoying a drink. I also tried the grilled Atlantic salmon, which, while colorful, was a bit dry, and the potatoes on the side didn't quite hit the mark. However, the crab artichoke dip appetizer truly saved the day--it was absolutely delicious and a highlight of the meal. I'm down visiting a friend who brought us here, and a we walk in to a busy restaurant but empty bar. Sit down and are immediately greeted by the Bartender, Chris, and told that he's training two new people today. He provides a few recommendations and we start with an orange crush. Now I'm a former bar manager from Maryland (our official state cocktail) so I'm judgey as hell with crushes. PERFECTION. I was pleasantly surprised it had freshly squeezed OJ and a splash of sprite, something everyone fails at. Went to the berry mojito next, which one of the trainees did and I could drink these all day (well, you know ) We split some fried Zucchini with ranch, and Dear Lord they were a perfect pair with the cocktails. He was very professional, patient and friendly. He checked on us several times to see if we needed anything and if we did, he delivered it right away. Ohhhhh my goodness. This is definitely the spot. We had a Ladies Only night here and reserved one of the heated igloos. They look cold from the outside looking in but they were so warm and cozy inside. We could see the reservoir from our table, and enjoyed being outside but staying warm. They even had cushions on the seats and cozy throws for us to cover our laps with! They had candles and pretty decor inside with a heater as well. The lamp overhead made a huge difference and kept us warm and the igloo even had a ventilation window in case we got hot (we didn't!). The door is a zippered door with the guests and servers having to unzip and zip to get in or out and the service is amazing!! Xavi was our waitstaff and she was attentive, cheery, and so happy to answer any questions we had. She even showed us a second hidden page of our menus! We thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, the coziness, the food (oh my god it was delicious!!), but most of all, the company. We made reservations after receiving recommendations for a romantic spot with good, fresh seafood for our wedding anniversary. Upon arrival, I was excited to see the beautiful scenery; however that excited quickly passed when we were seated upstairs, it felt like we were no longer in the same restaurant. I mentioned to the waitress this is our 1st visit to Richmond and this place and we came for the atmosphere as well as the food, but she did not seem to care, nor offer us a new table either inside downstairs or outside, even though tables were available. upstairs area is unmatched very disappointing with no views. I could have dined at the bar. My food was quite basic. I ordered a seafood combo with seared scallops and requested fries and broccolini as my sides. I asked the waiter if that was okay to substitute, but I was surprised to find I was charged for it. As a customer, I believe it's important to be informed about such things. I dont mind paying for top tier food and services, but this was not that. . I took no pic of my seafood plate as there wasn't anything to photograph, so unlike the dishes i saw about 2 few years ago on yelp. The best dishes was the truffle fries and Rockefeller oysters then the rest of the meal was downhill the entrée was not served hot but as I arrived very hungry i didn't wish to send back for an even longer wait. The crab cake was filled with lump meat, but it lacked a wow factor. Seems the dish was missing something....a remoulade, or butter sauce, lemon or something to pair the seafood with. Not just scallops, shrimp, and crabcaked tossed on a plate. (please work on plating your dishes) My scallops where just cooked there was no sear, for anyone who loves scallops in order to get a great sear you must not place then in the pan until the scallops are completly dry. I didn't get the broccolini either! The waiter brought out my veggies AFTER I was done eating...i had told him i no longer needed them before he brung them... lol I'm done. My biggest disappointment was sitting inside upstairs with a view of nothing but walls, partition blocking a wedding party and the staff working the wedding party. This was not worth the $130 I spent. I still left a good tip and thanked the staff as much husband was happy with his crabcake sandwich bit not with the chips that appeared overcooked. I'll rate this spot 3 out of 5. Maybe if I could have seen the scenery, or hot good I'd rate it a 3.5. I'm being generous with this rating because the waiter apologized that the kitchen was backed up because of the wedding party. But that shouldn't be the standard when there's a wedding party. With such a beautiful atmosphere it creates high expectation of getting top tier food; and service: beautiful plated meals and that is NOT at all what we received. The two glasses of complimentary champagne for our anniversary was nice, which also sets you up to prepare for a great experience. I hate to admit or be one of those people. But the truth is sometimes difficult. And I like to give it to the places that I have been to. This place has gone significantly downhill. I have been multiple times I have gone to this place before it was the boathouse and privately owned from the branner mill area, the original owners were great. Then, it switched hands a few times anyway. A long story short is this place is pretty much a dumpster fire understaffed. Overworked, the food is absolutely horrible. Tastes kind of reheated in a way. Maybe a microwave type of situation going on? Think bags of seafood thrown in a microwave. Their brunch is pretty decent, though. I will give them that French coffee is okay from the French press rather But you get em on the weekend, and their service is extremely slow.And usually the bar is scattered with half eaten food from plates that the service folks pile up my wife and I love the view.Of course, one of the selling points but very rarely go there.Dealing with slow service, bad food, poor drinks expensive and this is an odd one, but there's lots of steam headsets on the deck.Usually from the messiness that it's just someplace we try to avoid.I have many other places that I would promote and I have said good things about in the area.So check out the other reviews read more

Went to The Boathouse at Sunday Park for my daughter's birthday and we had a wonderful time and great food thanks to Ricky the bartender who ended up serving us. He took really good care of us. For beverages coffee, which comes in a press pot and is really good, Moscow mules, orange crush and a whisky special, I think an old fashioned. We ordered a variety of appetizers to share including mussels, peel and eat shrimp, oysters and hush puppies and everything was great. The broth with the mussels was amazing and we all kept dipping the charred bread and the hush puppies in it. Entrees were a mix of the broiled platter, fish and chips, fried shrimp, pizza and of course truffle fries. We had so much food and ended up bringing some home. Since it was a birthday celebration we were required to have dessert. A pizzooki, bread pudding, which was amazing and Ricky brought an extra birthday dessert. Bread pudding was amazing. The salmon was dry and a very small portion. Nowhere near worth the money. This follows a recent poor meal at the Rockets landing location in Richmond.
