My bf has been here many times. I've only been here once before and both times we had a good time. Good food good music and good service. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were very friendly and attentive even though the bar was full. I didn't go back into the back room but was told there is corn hole and line dancing. There is also an outside bar and patio that quite a few were enjoying despite the awful humidity from the rain that day. The bathrooms were fairly clean. Not the best but useable and well stocked. read more

"The Ranch" has become my "go to" place when I want a place to write yet enjoy the company of others. The staff knows me know and the girls working the bar are kind, friendly and efficient. Its become a "haven" for me during the day. The regulars are an interesting group some quite notable. You have a pilot for Philip Morris who may pop in on occasion , two well known "movers and shakers" who will remain nameless, sailors and pilots who travel far and wide seeing and living part time in places most people can only dream of. Also as Rugby season begins you have a large contingent of Rugby fans and players who hail from South Africa, big and brawney, good looking well mannered wuth a happy and boisterous attitude that livens the room and makes one smile. You can find these " young bucks" in GAR most Saturday mornings watching their game. You want good food with healthy options? Go to The Great American Ranch. It won't disappoint! read more

ur server was excellent.l; but, our food was inexcusable and horrible! Don't go for Brunch!! 1. Steaks were ordered Medium; and, ALL steaks were well done. 2. Pancakes were cold; and, sent back to the kitchen to be microwaved. 3. Bacon was undercooked and not eaten. 4. Home fries were gummy - gross. I will not visit this restaurant for a long time. Hopefully, they will invest in a qualified cook for Sunday brunch. read more

Great American Ranch - I only ate the omlette, which was cooked properly. Get sandwich and fries...not...breakfast food. - American Near Me - Midlothian, Virginia

I have never written a review of a regardless of how bad the food or the service was. I passed by the GAR often but never have the time to stop in. On July 2 I entered the bar around 5ishI took a seat on one of the high tables right towards the entrance. Next to me was a family of five with a special need person sitting in the aisle. The waiter, a young man in his late 30s early 40s wearing a black Argentina style, cowboy hat. He handled the families order, kneel down and spoke to the special need person got up to leave, never acknowledging me. He returned with the food sometimes later with another waiter and still did not acknowledge me. He went to the and brought out some napkins and still did not acknowledge me . there was a tall man bar a gray shirt with short who caught my eye, but just turned and wiped off the bar and disappeared back into the back. There was a DJ there at the . After about 20 minutes, I decided to leave. I have in Virginia for 10 years. And this was the first time I was disappointed with the lack of hospitality. I was on my way to a religious meeting, so I was well dressed. No hoodie. And yes, I am a mature, black man. I don't have a comment about the food because I was never served. read more

The food here is really good. The portion size is more than enough to fill you up. The service is perfect. The ambiance is western. It is a bar for both the younger and older crowd, inside it is a chill environment. The bartender I met is very friendly. The Bison Burger is phenomenal! It was cooked to perfection and pretty big. The photos are below. If you go between 3pm and 6pm it is happy hour Mon-Fri. There are a lot of items half priced during this time. read more

So much fun! We were heading to GAR for a friend's surprise birthday party. I am not a bar kind of person, but I am all about my friends so was happy to go. This is a bar with two different sections. One is a western bar complete with a mechanical bull. We were in the band section with a band playing 90s music. It was so much fun! We danced a ton and had adult beverages that were expertly crafted. The bartenders were totally professional. If I was a bat person? I'd be here every weekend What a fun place. read more

It's a really good bar with decent bar food. The beers are cold but It can be a hit or miss at times...typically the service is great but the kitchen can be slow. They have an outdoor area and outdoor bar seating. Family friendly before 8p. read more

I wanted to update this- the GAR location in mechanicsville blows the midlothian location out of the water! The mechanicsville location isn't on yelp that I can find, but go here instead! I always go to see the band "Riptide and the Southern Rock Mafia band" (who are incredible) and the waitstaff on a busy Saturday night is excellent and very attentive in the saloon! I always enjoy coming here when they play. read more

Southside is in dire need of a unique dining establishment that doesn't attract saloon style debauchery, unfortunately, things aren't looking too good for GAR. There are many positive things about the place that just need to become the focus of the restaurant. The staff is great! They are personable and attentive. They are accommodating to order changes and very polite and genuinely apologetic for a slow kitchen. The food was good and they have a good craft beer selection. They have a nice happy hour as well, so I think they'll be around for a little while for specials alone. The place hyped up the food and drinks, and has potential to bring in a crowd that appreciates craft cocktails and good food. Unfortunately your experience is much more of a theme place that will most likely end up like a South beach or Daisy Dukes (quick sandwiches and buckets of BudLight). From the forced uniform of cowboys/cowgirls and the "Howdy y'all" when you walk in the door, the theme may ultimately be the downfall of the place. read more

There is minimal oversight in the kitchen, evidenced by the following four examples: 1. Biscuits with sausage gravy tasted good, but was ruined by biting down on a hard seed, looked like it was from an orange. Thanks guys! 2. Eggs had shell cooked into the egg itself. 3. Corned beef hash was basically frozen "Potatoes O'Brian" (cubes of potato /w peppers and onions) with cubes of bland and firm meatstuff. Dish had to have been created by a guy who obviously hates corned beef hash or has no earthly idea what the heck it's supposed to taste like. "Homemade" my foot. Adding a frozen bag of potatoes, peppers, and onions to a weird meat thing is lazy. Worse, the dish is mostly potatoes. You guys must he making a killing, offsetting your food cost. Photo attached. 4. Cheese grits had a fly. Photo attached. Right on top. Still boxed and served. Frankly, it's a bummer. CHECK PLEASE! read more

Went with hubby to checkout their new location. The place was empty except a few people at the bar...should've been our first clue? Anyways when the waitress finally made her way over to take our drink order it took another 10 mins to get the drinks. We ordered and that took a half hour! Once we finally received the burnt mess and ate around all of the crunchy we couldn't wait to get out of there! I never experienced such an incompetent restaurant in my life! So don't go! But if you like long waits and burnt food this is your kinda joint! read more

Great American Ranch. Sorry, not so great. Heard good things about the place and decided to try it out on a Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. The place wasn't busy, probably about fifteen people in there all congregating around the bar. Plenty of empty booths. I noticed two employees working the bar, I know they noticed my wife and I but never acknowledged us standing waiting to be seated. Once seated we were handed the rather limited brunch menu and was told a server would be out to take our order. It took a few minutes for her to come over and take our drink order, disappear for a few more minutes before returning to actually take the order. I ordered what had to be a loaded omelet with a side of potatoes. I added two sausage patties to the order. Wife ordered a burger, well done with lettuce, tomato, mayo and cheese on the side. Hers came with fries. With only small group of people there and all of them already eating I thought this was a good sign, it should take only twenty minutes or so to get our food. First wrong assumption. Food came out about 45 minutes of waiting. I know this because I watched a football game on a monitor above my wifes head. Waitress never came to check on us to check our drinks. Then the food came out. A hot mess would be an understatement. My wife's burger was greasy . In fact the paper in the basket was floating in it. Nothing on the side and onions melted into the cheese. Onions were not asked for. The bun must have been soaked butter as well. Wife could not eat it. My omelet looked as if it was cooked on the griddle with the burger and the potatoes were nasty. The waitress came off with a shocked look when she noticed my wife picking apart the burger. "That is not what I told him to make!" she remarked as she took the burger away. She did take the burger of the ticket but made several remarks that "it wasn't her fault". First visit and the last visit. Not going back. Not recommending it. Save your money. read more

My friend and I came here for drinks on a Friday night. After we had a few drinks (and shown our ID to the bartender) we were hanging out, listening to the band and chatting. While standing there drinking drinks purchased for us by a guy at the bar we were approached by an employee. He asked to see our ID's which we willingly handed over. He took both of our ID's and walked away. A few minutes later he came back and asked us to follow him. My friend and I (aged 25 & 29) went with him. He lead us outside into an alley where two other men were standing there flanking the alley. Immediately we were both alarmed and asked what was going on and why we were brought outside. The man shown a flashlight on us and began inspecting us while the other two guys just stood there watching. Three grown men taking two borderline drunk females outside like this was unsettling to say the least. Luckily one of the female bartenders watched us get taken outside and followed behind us. She confronted the man and asked why they were doing this to us. Thankfully he gave back our ID's and let us go back inside but if the bartender hadn't come out I honestly don't know what would've happened. I'm very grateful for her and I have some real reservations about those men's intentions. It was beyond inappropriate and frankly terrifying. If you plan on drinking here make sure you keep your guard up! read more

It's a fun enough place in South Richmond/Midlothian, but the whole closing down at 9 pm thing is a little ridiculous. Also the two different bars are not connected, so if you start a tab at one you have to pay separately at the other bar. The mechanical bull is not functioning at this time due to covid. Outdoors always smoking but not indoors. The vibe seems to be somewhat country. Mask use was not super strictly enforced. read more

Cheap food, cheap beer. It's obvious they don't take care of their draft beer system. All their drafts are flat. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because they're cheap. But, you get what you pay for! Service is AWFUL. Servers do not check on their tables nearly enough. Obviously understaffed at times, but even when staffed, not at all helpful or attentive. Won't be back. read more

A pretty laid back atmosphere. Waiter was very nice and attentive. I went with a group of friends , first time there. I ordered mozzarella sticks which were super yummy, really enjoyed those and would go back to order them again. Half rack ribs was good and tender. Someone got the dry rub chicken wings but it didn't have much flavor, it was juicy but just not much flavor. Chicken tenders are huge, looks like they use chicken breasts which is awesome especially for the price however everyone's tenders came out a little burnt or tasted a little burnt. I enjoyed my food though. My friend said usually the tenders are pretty good, so maybe it was just an off day. read more

This visit was a bust. Disclaimer: We came at 2pm on a Sunday. Turns out they serve brunch till 3pm on Sundays. That being said, this review is based on these factors. I should have paid more attention to the 3 stars average of this place. I would have saved myself the disappointment. We came because it was recommended by a friend. Atmosphere: Large space, two bars, and Country decor. Wait staff wearing boots, jeans, plaid, and cowboy hats. Service: Was average. She did hook my son up with chocolate milk. Slow! Don't you just love it when you've been waiting a while for your food and your server comes to ask "Everything still going alright?". No, we're just sitting here waiting. What else can we do? - I thought to myself. Menu was limited and my wife, daughter, and son all ordered the Great American Breakfast ($14) and I had the Brunch Burger. Their breakfast include the following. 3 eggs, potatoes, 2 hotcakes, sausage or bacon, & biscuit. The ladies ordered eggs scrambled and my sons over easy. They each only got 2 eggs worth. Everything they got was cold on the plate. Funny part...they all had "hotcakes" and the server brought out one small condiment cup of syrup for them to share. My wife loved that...lol. My burger was decent. Cooked to the correct temp, but nothing special. Egg, bacon, cheese, & burger. That is all. The bun was good. Fries were hot and tasty. Overall: Totally not worth the money or time there. Very disappointed. I recommend 86ing the brunch altogether. We will likely not be back. Good luck to them, I don't see a future. read more

Always heard the advertisement on the radio, so I had such high hopes for this place! Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. It was average to say the least. We had kids in our party so we went on a Monday when their website advertises "movie night" not sure if they just do not update their website and they do not do that on Monday's anymore or if they just didn't do it with us. Asked the waiter for certain drinks I've seen others post on here and was told they no longer make those. This place wasn't extremely terrible just definitely not what I thought it would be. read more

Well my experience here was luke warm the food was excellent but service...terrible. I think the size of our group was too large...for one server...which brings me to management who was nonexistent because they should have corrected the situation by realizing she was drowning....but the food did I say it was amazing. Alright my breakdown: Food- excellent and of value...portion, quality, and quantity were exactly on point...4 Star. The loss of a star is because it took an hour for the arrive. I had the bronchitis burger which was super tasty! My wife had the steak and eggs both were great but the grits weren't great. Service - friendly buy not attentive. Again likely due to the size of our group. I basically serviced my table for drinks and silverware. 3 star Management- you were told a group of 15-20 was coming. You chose a small room for 10 then gave us 1 server...setting them up for failure...I was going with 2 star but as I write this you get 1 star. Your failure caused your people to fail. You could have given ya the salon area and at least one more server but probably 2. I'll likely return but definitely take more control in reservations or just got as a couple. The food really was excellent...I had the breakfast burger. read more

Used to love coming to this place on the weekends, great atmosphere, good food and drinks but in the last year especially this summer 21' there are an abundance of underage individuals especially girls that have been ruining it for me. So I checked this place out from a friend's recommendation and I actually really like it! I'm not a typical country girl and this place is straight up COUNTRY. All the servers were cowboy hats and boots and there is even a bull to ride! Also they have 99 cent mimosas on Sundays so be sure to get in before 3 if that's what you're into. I ordered corned beef hash and it was....different. Very strange. Nothing I've ever seen before. It was like chunks of potatoes and corned beef. I sent it back. That's the only truly negative thing I have to say about this place. Everything else was great! read more

Great service and really good food! Husband got the 32oz steak and it was cooked to perfection. The Mac and cheeses eggs rolls are AMAZING!! Would definitely recommend. Few weeks later: I did have a 5 star rating however, I have been here three more times since then. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately I have been disappointed my last 3 visits. This place is much more of a bar than a family restaurant. They don't answer the phone for call in to-go orders, you walk in with a kid and they tell you to order your to go order at the bar, they sit families with kids next to the bar(which there is one on both sides of the place). One lady told me "you have to walk around to see which side has less drunks". Manager and most staff are super nice. There is just no place for families with kids. Really don't want to come back. I might try again in a few months to be sure... read more

We've been here quite a few time since they opened. Generally we stay over in the saloon area. It's much chiller and less "restauranty." The bar keeps are also wonderful. Very personable, always call you by your name, and willing to create you a custom flavorful drink! We've only had the food here a few times. The Mac and cheese egg rolls are THE BEST!! They are so good!! We've also enjoyed the pretzels with beer cheese. Our first venture here we did have the chicken and waffle biscuit. It was yummy but the biscuit waffle was super dry. I think it it were a regular waffle that would be flyin off the shelf. All in all this is our favorite new hang out spot in Midlo. read more

I'm not really sure how this place has even 3 stars. We showed up for the kids movie Monday at 5pm. Well the movie didn't start until 5:30, then 20mins into the movie they turned it off and put a different movie on. There were 7 tables in the movie area and one waitress (each table had at least 6-8 people) so good luck trying to flag her down if you needed something. The food that came out of the kitchen was so bad, the Cubano sandwich was pulled pork on sandwich bread soaked in butter, the caprese flatbread was drenched in balsamic. Honestly the best thing we ordered was the kids nuggets and fries. So if you're coming for the movie experience for the kids I'd suggest you eat before you come, because this seriously was the worst food I've had in a long time. read more

I would like to let everyone know that this place is amazing! They put together a brunch buffet for my mother's 70th Birthday that was just amazing....and just for our party of 25! They knocked it out of the park and the space was perfect for all the kids in the dam to play and be entertained while the adults talked! It could not have been more perfect! The chef did an amazing job, we were all so impressed! I would use them again in a heartbeat! We decided to go on kids movie night. HUGE mistake. The ENTIRE waitstaff must have been new except for one waitress. Our server could not even bring my husband a beer, we had to get the manager after 20 minutes. The place looks awesome, and was not extremely busy. There were some there who were doing basically nothing. It seemed like all the manager was doing was putting out fires since everyone was complaining. After an hour we asked for our check since NO food had arrived. We were told the food would be packed for us to take home free of charge. It was "meh".
