Moved down last May and have been here a few times now. I try to give businesses my business as I'm new to the area. Love the vibe. Irish and Steelers are the way to go. My son and nephew loved the boneless wings and my gf liked her chicken Ceasar wrap. I had asked for a burger with bacon and cheese. Unfortunately, I'll never order that again. I didn't even get half way through. The taste was awful. Now, we did come in at 9:50 on a Saturday night and the kitchen closes at 10:30, but to serve up a burger so God awful is beyond me. No worries. Paid the $68 dollar tab and left $20 cash for our waitress who was fine. I'll be back, but will stay away from the grizzled flavored burgers for sure. It is a neighborhood spot, but that's fine, we live in the neighborhood. lol. I just won't go for food that late anymore, but we were starving. read more

Stopped by O'Toole's for the first time and walked into a packed house that only got busier as the night went on. Clearly, a neighborhood favorite. A well executed plate of nachos: crisp base, melted cheese, and portioned for communal snacking. The crab dip, though, tasted like tinned fish under a blanket of melty cheese. Wings were fine. This place seems to thrive on its regulars and a lively atmosphere. Glad I tried it, but I don't need a second round. read more

I got Wednesday special steak sirloin, sweet potatoes,Mac and cheese. They said they are out of sweet potatoes then switched over for onion rings because waiter was said that's the best. Non of those foods had any taste. Steak was 2 out of 10 no taste, onion ring was onion speared from crust sauce they bring was so extremely salty. Mac and cheese cheese was smooshed. My not kitchen knowledge son does better job. No ketchup was in ketchup container. Waiter was sweeping floors instead of refilling our water. Experience 1-2 out of 10. They lost my business. My stomach wasn't right after I ate too but forgot to call store if anyone get sick. My sons food was steak but different sides. He got uneasy with his stomach too. Why they do this for us? We discovered this place on a whim while scoping out the area, and we're so glad we did! Service: 10/10 Food: 10/10 It's very rare that we go to a restaurant where everything from start to finish is amazing -- but this place nailed it. We tried the Philly cheesesteak, O'Toole's spaghetti, Reuben, and crab dip... and every single dish was a hit. Flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. This is a sports bar with 6 screens and a large bar. It is very clean and modern in decor, but we found it very noisy. They have a surprisingly broad menu, and everyone in our party of 16 commented on how much they enjoyed their meal. Unfortunately, we had a terrible waiter (Keith?) who repeatedly mixed up orders and forgot to serve items that were ordered. At the end, he had to each person individually what they got, because he didn't know. Since we were a large group, a 20% tip was automatically added to the bill, but he certainly didn't earn it. read more

A nice restaurant with ample parking that is much more than your typical Irish Pub. They have a very large and complete bar, but the food is really good and goes well beyond "bar food". They have many fine meal choices that taste like homemade...meatloaf, liver & onions, ground sirloin, a long list of hot sandwiches, etc., etc. A great place to socialize. Owner only acknowledged 2 tables (Rude). Not good customer service to only chat with people you know. This is my first and last time in this place . The staff is friendly, the owner needs to take a lesson from them. The food is adequate and the drinks are good- got a house margarita and it's on point. Cleanliness- floors needed to be swept. Employees wear what ever they want it appears. One young male at the host desk was wearing micro shorts (way too small for his tall frame). Overall I do not recommend this place until the owner learns what customer service is about. Advice to owner: The restaurant/pub is a business not a playground for you to socialize with select friends. It might be a casual place, I don't think the owner should be in shorts either. Delicious, quick to get food out, doesn't cost an arm & a leg, family (kid) friendly, & service was excellent! They even offered to cook a chicken breast separately for our baby who has a severe food allergy. Checked all of our boxes. Will definitely be back if we're in the area. Always has great service and very welcoming staff. I like how dark the interior is and all of the booths/seats are very comfortable. It can be loud but if you know the right times to go it can be almost empty and nice and quiet. They often do live music (which I tend to avoid because I'm sensitive to loudness) but its a fun time. I take all my favorite people here. The BEST wings ever, by the way, and the homemade ranch is absolutely divine, I get some every time I'm there. read more

We had dinner here, with 15 people. I called early in the day to reserve the spot and was pleased when we arrived to see the table was, in fact, ready. This isn't always the case in many places on a Friday night. It started getting a lot busier once we were about ready. I had the steamed shrimp and was happy with my choice. From what I could tell, everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The waitress was friendly, the kitchen was efficient and the prices are decent. Went to O'Tooles to try their patty melt sandwich and homemade onion rings. Both were excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Hubby had a meatball sub and his was excellent also. Meatballs were great size and totally awesome. We will be going back. Service was great too. read more

About noon Sunday, managed to get ahead of the rush. Quick service and friendly. Had a brown ale which was good. Fish & chips ... tough. The actual fish was ok, the batter was like leather, not at all light and flaky as other places. A little surprised they didn't offer vinegar as a condiment. Came in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Nice lively atmosphere. Had a lot of typical bar foods as well as Irish dishes. We had lunch so didn't want to go nuts with the order. We had a few different apps and shared them all. If I get a chance to go back I'd probably get some of the Irish dinners that they had. I really enjoyed the wings. There were a few different choices for sauces. My daughter got the Mac and cheese and it was good. Not straight from a box stuff. She doesn't like the Kraft so this seemed good. We did have a few drinks. Probably would be cool to chill at the bar get a drink and watch some tv some night. read more

Consistently good food and service! This is one of our normal "lunch spots" when we come back to RVA. We have eaten both at the bar and at a table, service is always good (but the bartender there is super efficient and nice!) Absolutely horrible. Maybe we came too late one evening, but the mashed potatoes with my sausage were absolutely disgusting. You would think that an Irish restaurant could deal with a potato, but no. The waitress asked me to hang onto my plate and she brought a bowl with a load of mashed potatoes in it, but you know the next ones weren't just cold...they were refrigerator cold. Evidently the restaurant must've thought that the potato crowd had gone home for the evening and stored what they could in the refrigerator, but it was a cold night and I was looking forward to those mashed potatoes and figured they would be the best I'd ever eaten. Surprise - there's nothing worse than cold mashed potatoes with congealed brown gravy on top of them. My daughter thought that I was losing it, but when she tried a forked sample from the bowl, she was shocked that they didn't even come up to room temperature. I've been to O'Tooles twice now. The first time was on Tuesday October 15th (their second day open) and then again three days later on Oct. 18th for happy hour and appetizers. I'm happy to say I was most pleased both times. I was fully prepared to wait over an hour for food and have service on par with the DMV, Post Office, Subway, Comcast, BW3, Kabana Rooftop, etc. Well lucky us our service was excellent! On our first night we all had dinner and it was perfectly fine. It wasn't blowing any wind up my skirt and frankly I don't need it to. I'm looking for a new watering hole and I think I may have found it. So let's get something out of the way. That salad photo I uploaded. HAVE MERCY O'Toole's! Please don't bring me a hot mess of a salad like this again. I'm going to let it slide this time but let's show a little professionalism. Tell Brady in the back to make his Dad proud and show some Midlothian pride! Poor life choices and Gen Z apathy shouldn't reflect your work. The inside of your car, probably your Mom's champagne color Honda Odyssey hand me down might look like a gym locker but you can compensate for that with how you put lettuce on a plate. I want you to stand back, and say: "Yes, that looks good. My Dad doesn't think I'll graduate high school but my mom loves me and I will show them both what's up! I'll plate a salad like a boss!" ATTA BOY BRADY! Getting back to the review the food was fine. Wifey Pooh had the Shepard's pie, I had a corned beef sandwich, and my boy had fish with broccoli. We chased it down with some cold beers and the rest is history. Your mileage may vary on the food and after I put this spot on the Yelp MAP I'll let my fellow yelpers critique the food. Skipping ahead to the following Friday and that night was an entirely different story. We needed an emergency happy hour for our dear friend who was unhappy at work. She reached out to us for support and we were honor bound to perform our civic duty. We had cold beers, ciders, Purple Hooters, Jameson shots, two appetizers, Kamikaze shots, and made a gracious exit before things really got going. We took the party back to Casa de Angel and blasted Lizzo on my Klipsh speakers complete with HUE party light effects. That Friday night was one for the books! Eight of us, including three children, went to dinner at O'Toole's in Midlothian to celebrate my birthday two Sunday evenings ago. They were obviously very short-staffed, as our server was trying her best to keep up with all of the tables assigned to her. It took more than 20 minutes to place our order. House salads came out after an additional 15-20 minutes, but one person in our party never got his soup until AFTER entrees were served. When questioned about It, the young man who brought out the food said he was "not the right person to talk to about It," but he did not offer any solution. One of the kids meals did not arrive until 15 minutes AFTER all of the other entrees were served. No one liked their food EXCEPT for one child who enjoyed her macaroni and cheese. The biggest misses were that the fish in the fish and chips entree was one huge piece of dry white fish with no flavor. The shepherd's pie was as dry as a bone and had been microwaved to the point of no return and was completely inedible. Our water glasses were never refilled and only part of our group was asked if we wanted additional drinks. We had to wait at least 15 minutes after we were all done picking at our food for our check. When I went to ask for a manager, I spoke to Lacy. She offered to take the Shepard's Pie and the one kid's meal that arrived very late off the bill. That was appropriate and appreciated, but if she ever wanted any of us to return, she should have offered more compensation as the food was fairly disgusting and the service quite poor. I went home disappointed and hungry on my birthday. read more

Went for lunch on a Thursday. The service was friendly and not slow. The restaurant was pretty clean. I like the family crests hung around the restaurant. The food was just ok. Hubs had a wrap and onion rings. He said the onion rings were good and the wrap was fine. I had a blt and shoestring fries. The bacon on my blt was BURNT. It made the entire sandwich taste burned. The shoestring fries were good though. Both hubby and I thought our pickles tasted funny so only took one bite. Overall was disappointed that a blt was ruined and pretty inedible, that's a basic sandwich. read more

My wife without our neighbor went to O'Toole's on Saturday - Oct 17th for the first time - she came home raving about the food. She had gotten the Irish egg rolls (2 orders), homemade onion rings, Reuben (she picked that up for me as I was working) and the Rachel (Turkey, Cole slaw, 1000 island and swiss on grilled rye. They really enjoyed the food and the waitress was very nice. Social distancing was maintained with mask until you got to your table (then mask could come off) - the wait staff kept their mask on. Well we went back Sunday and we picked up a Brunch Special - Hash Browns, eggs, toast, and I got a side order of bacon - delicious (had a great taste). My wife picked up the Ultimate Pub Nachos and they were a very large size with plenty of toppings (so much so she couldn't finish them, and neither could I after finishing off mine). My daughter got the Chicken Club with onion rings - the sandwich was a nice size and very tasty (I finished off the last few bites of the sandwich - it was a very good sandwich). I had visited the O'Toole's on Forest Hill and enjoyed my meals and so glad they opened one on this side of town. Great service and food was perfect. Had bangers and mash, Danny boy sandwich, and Irish egg rolls. All were very good and seemed to be made from scratch.Egg rolls were huge and easily enough for a table of 4. Come hungry or ready to take home half of your plate! my husband and I just left O'Tooles . when I was starting to take my first bite if my dinner I noticed a bug crawling around on my plate. I immediately pushed my plate to the edge and waited on our server. I brought this to the attention of our server and told him I did not want another plate. ( I lost my appetite..). the restaurant charged us for a meal I did not eat. I was appalled. While the service was good, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

Recently came here with a couple guys I golf with for a beer and lunch. Several months ago I voiced a complaint about the 3% charge for use of a charge card but was given a ration of a crap excuse why the charge was added. Apparently my complaint resonated with other customers for a variety of reasons because the sur charge has been removed as it should have been long before now. As stated before certain things are simply a cost of being in business and credit costs are one of them. I resent businesses unloading legitimate expenses on to customers and I see more people feel as I do. Thank you customers for your voice and boycotts have spoken. We've been here twice and luckily had good service both times. I agree with some of the other posts that the wait staff and new space lack the personality of the original location. On our second visit we asked the hostess if we could put a high chair in the spot of a regular chair so our son wasn't out in the busy aisle. She just looked at us, shrugged, and said "there's nowhere to move it." Then walked away. We chalked it up to the fact that they were slammed on a Sunday afternoon. The children's chicken tenders and fries are always a huge portion. My go to is the club sandwich and onion rings. So good. My husband loves the Danny Boy but on our last visit got the bleu cheese burger and raved about it for the rest of the week. It's not as warm and cozy as the Forest Hill restaurant but it's closer to us so we'll keep coming back. read more
