I live right around the corner from this restaurant and do t know why it took me so long to check it out, but I'm so glad I did! I've been there twice, and I love it. They have amazing specialty cocktails...I do t usually have a cocktail, but I did here, and I'm glad I did. I've tried their pimento cheese app, the Brussels sprouts, and the buratta, and all were delicious! I had the shrimp tacos, which were also quite tasty. I highly recommend the truffle fries as well--amazing!! My son tried the steak and was very happy with it, too. It definitely has a good vibe, with a nice bar area, plenty of tables indoors, plus a few tables outside. The service was excellent both times I went. I was looking for somewhere new to go out on Saturday night for a drink and read great reviews for Social52, so we decided to give it a shot. The decor was nice, the bartenders served us quickly, and although it was crowded, we were able to find a table to sit. I had a margarita, which was a bit on the bitter side, but was good overall and I thought it was unique that they used black salt on the rim. My boyfriend had a beer and the ghost pepper wings. The prices were pretty average (which is to say overpriced, but so is every bar on the weekend). My boyfriend was disappointed that the wings weren't very spicy for being "ghost pepper", but the overall taste was good and they were very crisp with juicy chicken inside. I'd say the only true downside was that the high ceilings made it very loud, so it was difficult to have a conversation seated across from one another. read more

In my earlier 20s, I often lamented in reviews (and I mean often) that I was typically overlooked for drink orders at bars. That wasn't the case here. I walked up to the bar, made eye contact with a bartender, and immediately ordered the High Fashion gin cocktail. While he was fixing that, the other bartender asked if I had been helped yet. How nice is that?? I thought it was great. The drink was also nice. I probably didn't have any business ordering gin after drinking for several hours prior, but from what I remember, it was well-balanced with a nice citrus flavor. But I could be totally off. While the bar area was busy, there were some seats away from it that were a bit quieter. As in, I could hear my friends without screaming. Always a plus. read more

Bottom line up front: A clean and cute establishment with pretty standard service and overpriced food that is just okay. Seems like they are trying too hard to be an upscale eatery for college kids and even then they miss the mark. I will give kudos to our server who constantly checked on us and kept the drinks coming. This place has a really great happy hour and a variety of drinks. Now on to the most important part in my eyes: the food. The firecracker shrimp was listed as a "shareable" but only included a few pieces. The truffle fries I had were good, but some were overcooked a little. A friend ordered a Cesar salad as an entree which looked more like a side order, and another friend ordered shrimp tacos in which she did not enjoy. F*cking amazing. My girlfriend and I visited Social 52 late last summer, and I've been meaning to write this review. Our server, Brooke, was really great -- but we were completely blown away by the food. We dine all over and have been to well-regarded restaurants in New York City, London and San Sebastián, among others. I like to think we know food, and I used to work in the restaurant industry. So when I say we were blown away at Social 52, I don't say it lightly. It's not that the dishes were overly complex or intricately inventive; there were no savory foams or dishes plated to look like a rain forest or something. They weren't even fancy. It's the fact that each dish was made to perfection for what it was. Take my wedge salad, for example -- a really simple dish that's hard to screw up but manages to be ho-hum at most places. Here, the iceberg wedge was served very chilled (as it should be) and the bacon was perfectly cooked. Our oven baked meatballs were among the best we've ever had, and I've tried polpette all over Italy, from Turin to Brindisi. The bruschetta was solid, too -- again, a dish that's hard to screw up but is rarely perfect. My girlfriend said her burger was incredible, and it totally was. My point is that everything was on point -- and that's rare. You're bound to run into something that doesn't quite reach level ten anywhere you go. You might find the greatest seared scallops on earth at some place in Bilbao, but that same restaurant might serve bread that's not fresh or a salad that lacks oomph. Maybe we got lucky, or maybe we just ordered the right things, but every single dish we ate that night at Social 52 was made to perfection. I walked back to the kitchen after our meal to thank the cook, and seriously, at this point I wouldn't have been surprised to find Ferran Adria or Thomas Keller at the saute station. I'm exaggerating, but this was just a really good meal. And who did I find? Two completely unassuming young dudes. Like the kind of guys I might have smoked a joint and played Halo with twenty years ago. They were super nice, and super stoked that we enjoyed the meal, and I left laughing to myself at the thought that I've eaten on four continents (and often paid too much money for the privilege) and one of the most on-point and well-executed meals I've ever had was cooked by these two random dudes in Richmond, Virginia, quietly doing their thing in a little kitchen, raising the bar for their competition, and just absolutely killing it when it comes to their craft. read more

I went for brunch so it was a little busy, but since BRUNCH just opened down the block there wasn't a wait. Our server Adam was friendly, seemed to be 1 or 2 of the waiters working while we were there. So while the service wasn't super quick, it wasn't horribly slow either. The service was slow, only one sever, so I can could forgive that if what I wanted from the menu was available- took 5-10 minutes to learn my preference was not Available. The food felt very commercial- edamame was on point, but the crispy rice balls were massive (not a bad thing) but I felt like the description for it was not what I expected. I loved the "old" Social 52, and the newly renovated Fan favorite is Social 52 to the 10th power. I love that the bar is separated from the restaurant. You can still get that bar vibe, but if you want a quieter meal, you can grab a booth or table. The layout is spacious and comfortable with the tables not too close together (one of my restaurant pet peeves). We were led to a roomy booth, with nice lighting and a nifty wooden table. We commented on the cool mix of brick and wood dividing the bar area and the main dining area. The relaxing vibe, with a bit of a buzz, made us feel welcome and enthused. We were greeted by a pleasant server, Jules, who brought us bottles of chilled water. My friend ordered a Nitro, and it was good! He gave me a sip, it was smooth and Velvety, and reminded me of Guinness' cousin. The beer menu had a good variety of thoughtfully chosen selections. The cocktail and wine list was interesting too. We decided on a meal of apps and sides! Good idea! We were able to taste several different menu items, all of which rocked! The Fried Green Tomatoes blew our minds, with the pimento cheese and relish embellishments! The cast iron Mac n cheese was a gooey, cheesy mound of delight, the flaming Cheetos took this dish to the edge! The fried devil eggs were a creative twist on this classic picnic fare, served with a sriracha sauce and sprinkled with the fair dust of the food community... baaaccccon! Bippity, boppity BACON! (Jim Gaffigan nod). Then there were the Steak Frites, crispy thin fries topped with juicy, tender steak... amazing! We also ordered the grilled romaine wedged salad, which was presented in a creamy pool of dressing, topped with tomato, pickled onion, cheese and yep, more bacon! We all oohed, and mmmmm'ed while we enjoyed all the small plates! There was plenty of food to satisfy our hunger and we will most definitely be back to try more appetizers, entrées and sides! We didn't opt for dessert, which is a good thing because they only served one item, a crème brûlée. I might have had pie if they offered it! Our server was attentive yet not intrusive. The place was aesthetically pleasing and the prices matched our expectations. The parking can sometimes be a hassle in the Fan, but not this Friday night! We got spots on the same block! 2.5/5 I was pretty disappointed with my brunch experience here. Food-wise, everything came out correctly. My friend and I both ordered the Steak and Eggs. He wanted his steak medium rare while I wanted mine medium well; when we got the plates, you could tell the steaks were cooked correctly. Unfortunately, the flavors in the dish were nothing special. I expected more; in fact, no one at the table was particularly enamored by their dish. The atmosphere and style of the restaurant were great. I really appreciated that they were able to accommodate a party of nine. Their website stated that you had to call for something like this, and when I did it was an easy process. My least favorite part of the experience was the Mimosa pitchers. They were incredibly iced/watered down. The empty pitcher shows how much ice they added to our first order. The pitcher without ice shows much liquid they really add in a standard order. Keep in mind, I ordered that pitcher specifically with no ice. (I'm well aware it wouldn't be filled as high without costing more, but is that really a serving?) I probably won't be back. But, you should try it and see for yourself! read more

So I had dinner here with my son yesterday just to sample the food as I am contemplating having an event here. I spoke with the partner a few times this week but want a surprise visit so no one had time to prep for my arrival. I got lucky and found a parking spot on the street. So glad my friend and I checked out this popular spot a couple of weekend ago. The layout has the bar to the left and the tables to the right. I heard they just remodeled, and from my perspective, the layout looked great. The place was busy, but we were lucky to grab 2 open seats at the bar. Not too much to review except for the service, as we didn't get food. My wife and I were bouncing around Richmond and stumbled on this place. Almost empty when we walked in but we were about 30 minutes early for Saturday Happy Hour and the start of the Chiefs-Texans game. Ordered 2 Old-Fashioneds made with their infused bourbon and then smoked. My wife had the standard simple syrup and I substituted with maple syrup. Both were excellent. We took our time to enjoy our drinks before ordering and our server, Riley, was very accommodating. She explained to me what they do to infuse their bourbon and was an absolutely great server. We ended up ordering a plate of nachos and a plate of catfish nuggets to share. The nachos were outstanding. Not just a heap of nachos and then cheese and toppings added on top. Everything was layered. The flavors mixed well and lots of chicken. The catfish bites (more like strips) were out of this world!! Hot, crunchy, great flavor and a great sauce drizzled on top and on the side. The restaurant soon drew a crowd for the football game and it seemed like a friendly crowd. We were probably about the oldest in the place but that is getting to be the norm for us as we enjoy places like this. Again, Riley was a fantastic server. The decor was cute and I felt comfortable here. Our waitress was nice and genuine. I ordered the chicken and waffles. I was a bit hesitant because it mentions "cheddar" in the waffle and that made me nervous. The food came out quickly and tasted really good. The chicken was perfect. Seasoned, tender and juicy. I added the home fries to my order. They were a bit underwhelming but not bad. I would definitely order the chicken and waffles again. Me and some friends ate here for brunch today and waited at our table for forever before we finally had to flag a server down to get some water. The table beside us sat down after us and got their order taken almost immediately.
