Ruth's Chris is easily one of my favorite steakhouses in Richmond. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but unlike some upscale restaurants, I actually feel like the quality matches the price. I don't always order steak here because their stuffed chicken is so good. It's one of my favorite dishes on the menu. I'm also a huge fan of the mac and cheese, and honestly, I've yet to order anything that disappointed me. If you do go for a steak, it's usually seasoned well, flavorful, and cooked correctly. The drinks are another reason I keep coming back. Their bartenders know what they're doing, and every cocktail I've tried has been excellent. At this point, I'm officially becoming a regular. One of my favorite times to visit is during happy hour. The prices are more affordable, and I'll usually order a Caesar salad, mac and cheese, and a cocktail. It's one of the best happy hour spots if you're looking for a more upscale experience without paying full dinner prices. The atmosphere is exactly what I want from a steakhouse. It has the feel of a classic luxury hotel with warm lighting, comfortable seating, and enough space between the tables that you don't feel like you're dining with the people next to you. The service is consistently excellent, the location is convenient, and the overall experience always feels polished. Overall, I'd give Ruth's Chris a 9.5/10. Great food, great drinks, excellent service, and an atmosphere that keeps me coming back. It's one of the few restaurants in Richmond where I know I'm going to leave happy every time. read more

Loved the ambiance of this location of Ruth's Chris! Was very excited for the experience at this location compared to others, as it's in an old plantation home. Very intimate setting, and hostess was welcoming. Service, however, was extremely disappointing. We were greeted initially, but as the night went on, the service went downhill. My husband asked for lemons for his water a total of 4 times, and we finally received them AFTER we had finished our meal. His water glass also remained empty for 3/4 of our meal, after asking for a refill twice. It still took 10 minutes to get him water. I had a Coke - never was asked if I wanted a refill. Food was disappointing. I ordered the filet cooked medium, and it came back black and blue. My husband ordered the cowboy ribeye cooked medium rare +, and it came back almost raw. We both sent them back, and had to repeat this process over again, as mine was still black and blue. They cooked my same filet 3 times, so it came back nearly in pieces and the outside was completely charred. Very disappointed in management also. We have dined at many nice steak houses, and even several Ruth's Chris locations, and we have never experienced this terrible of service. We are always down to pay extra for a nice meal -- we would never ask for anything to be comped. But a fresh steak after having to send it back twice would've been appreciated. We eventually decided on no dessert, we just wanted to leave. So we ask for the check, and it took at least 20 minutes to receive that. Meanwhile, our server is serving drinks to several surrounding tables. This was overall a terrible experience. We will not be returning. This is my first review on yelp, as I and my husband are not ones to complain about restaurants. But seeing we just spent a pretty penny for VERY disappointing service and food, wanted to save someone else the trouble. read more

Let me start by saying this place definitely lived up to it's price tag. We were greated almost immediately and the ambiance of this place felt very warm. It definitely had that Valentines feel because most of the staff had on some kind of red. The service was immaculate, the people filling up the water never let me go below glass half fulf. Our waitress was very informative with answering our questions. You could hear my chicken before you could see it so I knew that being cold would have never been an issue. My partner and I were celebrating an anniversary and decided to give Ruth's Chris a try. Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted and shown to our table. The restaurant was nice and spacious, and there was something playing on the piano in the room. Our waiters were very attentive and helpful throughout the whole dinner. We ordered: - Calamari: this was very good, the Thai chili sauce that accompanied the dish was delicious! - Cowboy Ribeye: this was ok, it was cooked perfectly to our preference but lacked flavor - Sizzling crab cakes: this was also just ok, they had a lot of lump crab meat in there but also lacked flavor - Mashed potatoes: this was very disappointing, there was no flavor to it at all and the potatoes were very running. The texture was as if they used instant potato mix and added too much water - mushrooms: this was okay, pretty standard - bread: this was provided to the table and was fine - the bread also lacked flavor The service was amazing, we were checked on very often but not too often that our conversation was disrupted. I ate at Ruth Chris tonight and it was terrible. I requested for my steak to have no charring and unfortunately had to send it back. The manager Cicily Bodiford was horrible. She came to my table being extremely rude and very disrespectful. She stated you have sent your steak back before and I explained I've been coming here weekly for over 8 years and yes if charred I do. I explained to her I've sent my steak back 3 times in time period. Unfortunately twice with her. This is the first thing she said when approaching my table. I was shocked. She stated perhaps we can't cook your steak for you. While I was speaking she cut me off and continued to try to discourage me from ever returning. She was better as a hostess and her promotion to a manager with no problem solving skills makes her terrible at her position. When asked who was the GM, she stated they wasn't here and then stated she didn't who that would be. She offer no other resources of a complaint but herself when she was the one I need to speak to someone about. Hi, our reservation was booked under Ezra Bethea. When we arrived, we were greeted very well and the service overall was great. I do want to be honest I was a little impatient at first because our food took almost an hour, which I understand may have been due to a party. I also came specifically for the lamb chops, and the first order was overcooked. However, I couldn't stay upset because the service was truly immaculate. My server was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive the entire time. I also want to give a special thank you to the manager who was on duty tonight. The dining area was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Ruth's Chris is ultimate in fine dining at historic Belgrade Plantation. Service was meticulous, professional and friendly with unbeatable attention to detail. All of the appetizers and entrees were perfectly prepared and presented. Desserts were decadent and delicious. I was shocked and disappointed that Ruth's Chris apparently does not value a dress code for their customers. Our party was nicely dressed (coats and ties) other parties were nicely dressed in buttoned down shirts and dresses. A couple other groups were in T-shirts. Although I'm sure they were perfectly nice people, it bugged me enough to deduct a star. I hope that the management can tighten up and resolve this issue. We're regular Ruth's Chris diners and decided to visit this location for its historic setting. The former plantation house is beautiful and I would have loved to look around more. It is at the end of a strip mall, but that just means that the parking is convenient. (No need to valet!) Food was top notch quality, but the service left just a little to be desired. We had a party of 7 and everyone in our group thought it was fantastic. I apologize for the late review but this was for a visit in October. This was also our 3rd time for our October visit at this location. Always, always fantastic service, and a beautiful location. We have dined in the main dining room several times and that is a completely different and even more amazing experience. The servers carry trays balanced on one hand above their heads with four or five entree's on them. I'm talking a round tray that has to be at least 3 feet in diameter. My wife and I have gone to Ruth's Chris to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc. for the past 20+ years. We have not been disappointed until last night. For my birthday celebration, I decided to forget the high price and ordered a $72 medium-rare ribeye steak. After 45 minutes, it arrived sizzling in butter. I took one bite and found it was cooked medium-well and quite tough. I sent it back to the grill jockey to 'uncook' it. A half hour later, they returned with another steak cooked medium and also tough. I ate less than half of it and took the rest home. It might work in a beef stew with root vegetables. As usual, there were pretty paintings, and everything was spotlessly clean. The servers were prompt and attentive. They covered for their semi-skilled assistants. The pianist struggled to entertain on a piano that was very badly out of tune. Fortunately, he took a break while we had the tiny bite of cheesecake termed dessert. Alas. Me and my wife love the ambiance of Ruth Cris. It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Very romantic setting. This was the first year since me and my wife have been married that we have not eaten at Flemings for our anniversary. The food at RC is amazing. My steak was cooked almost perfectly (not quite mediumrare in the middle, but close to it, needed 40 more seconds on the grill). The taste was amazing. My wife loved the crab cakes and the stuffed chicken. The fries at RC were amazing, and the cheesecake was great! Our cocktails were delicious. RC had a great wine and champagne selection. They need to put cherries on that cheesecake to make it perfect. The service was great until! This particular day, my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary with my sister and her husband. At the end of the night, there were two checks for a party of four. Two people on each check, for some strange reason Ruth Cris decided to add automatic gratuity for our check with two people on it. My co workers and I wanted somewhere nice and fancy to go to on a Saturday night. We decided to dine at Ruth Chris for dinner, our first time at this restaurant. Location was easy to find. The place was neat and nice and the atmosphere was great. We were a little late but was greeted nicely and was seated right away. The service was good and food was good, food was not cheap at all but amazing. I had chicken and they had steaks, they were cooked right and tasted good. Sides were good and drinks were good. I know Ruth's Chris Steak House is a chain with over 100 restaurants across the country. However this review is for the Midlothian location on Huguenot Rd. My wife made reservations for December 22nd, 2021 two days before my 42nd birthday. Who doesn't want a steak dinner for their winter birthday? The Midlothian location is inside the old Belgrade Plantation mansion. It was used as a hospital and now it's used for the best steak house in Midlothian. You need to remember that in December of 2021 the COVID19 PANDEMIC was happily raging on with stupid variants (Omicron), mask mandates, staff shortages, low morale, supply chain issues, etc. I was nervous if I'm being honest. My expectations for good food and good service were set pretty low. Pandemic fatigue is very real and food service workers are well within their right to feel some type of way. This is where the automatic gratuity comes in to save the day! At least that's my take on it, when hard working food service workers are guaranteed anywhere from 15% to 18% gratuity workers *might* be just feel more valued and incentivized. I'm happy to say this was the case for my birthday dinner. The service was First Class all the way. The food was even more decadent. Dare I say this steak may have taken the #1 spot in my travels? I had my usual ribeye, my wife and son had the filet, and we all shared the divine lobster macaroni and cheese. We also drank a lovely bottle of red wine (Hedges Family CMS 2017) and topped it off with dessert. My birthday was exquisite and the steaks melted in your mouth. Not a great food experience. 4 of the 5 steaks were overcooked (ordered medium-rare, they came out well done, no pink), and one steak received the wrong topping (asked for the 3oz lump crabmeat on special but received crab cake). The service was good, martinis were good. I've had good meals at Ruth's Chris when I went 10+ years ago, but have been going to local steakhouse, "Buckheads" for the past decade and have had nothing but excellent meals there. Decided to surprise my boyfriend with a Thursday just because date. He's not a fan of steak so I wanted to catch their happy hour so we could order burgers. Their happy hour is limited to the bar area only which is a real bummer especially during covid with limited seating. We were able to make it during a time where there was room for us. I ordered a $14 pomegranate martini and the waitress checked my id. A few minutes later a man comes over and says "hi I'm the manager let me see your id" which was very weird. He stares at my licensee and bends it several times. He asked me my date of birth and then says they've had an influx of fake ids. Then he asked me to take off my mask so he could see me face. After he was done bending my very real ID, he decides that I passed his inspection. While I understand it's important to not serve alcohol to minors he was very rude in his approach. He could have started with a "hey we've had a few fake ids lately, do you mind if I take a look at your ID". The waitress was much nicer than he was so maybe he could take some customer service lessons from the staff members. The entire interaction with him was very unpleasant. We ordered the spicy shrimp which is the best thing ive tried here, highly recommend. The burger and fries were fine. This will be my last time dining here. So my son decided to pick me up from work and have dinner on him. We ended up here.......total shock! My kids are not shy to finer things but this made my hear smile. He is truly a sweet young man. I come often to Ruth Chris and enjoy the food, wine and interactions with guest/staff. This visit the food selections were made flavorful and timely. However, my salmon was a little under cooked compared to my last visit. But the crab cakes made up for it tremendously. Howver,the greeter at the door made a comment of did he get into Harvard is that what brings you in today. Now, I Might be a little sensitive at the comment. But I had to advise her no but he is a college graduate the completed college 2 years early. To which he worked hard for and now he is gainfully employed within a few months of graduating. I went for a special occasion and they did not disappoint. From the service to the ambience, to the food to the privacy, it was just mmmmmuah perfect. Their prices are high, yes, but it's a local place that makes you feel special and exclusive with their level of service. They're a hidden gem, and offers you a great experience without seeming pretentious. They have a cute lobby in which you can explore their history - it's actually pretty cool - and they have a bar in which you can hang out for a but. ThinkMorton's but brighter, more airy, and much more fun with ample parking. I'd recommend their food, especially their steaks,but I also have a soft spot for a good brulee. I thought they would distribute things evenly. The second time I visited, my steak was overcooked. I wasn't a fan and only enjoyed my casserole and mac and cheese. The ambiance and decor were very nice. It is pretty dark inside, but they do have outdoor seating. They also have more personal seating inside that has a lot more window lighting. Overall, I would say this place is more of an experience than just the food. If you come just for the food (specifically the steak), you could have a hit or miss based on the cook. The staff has been awesome each time I visit. Even when I was given a complete (beyond done) steak (I ordered medium), the waiter was willing to have another cooked for me. I politely declined because I don't like to waste food and enjoyed the rest of my food. Now don't get me wrong, I know a good steak and I am more than willing to pay for one. For that reason, if I don't already know, I ask the staff if their offerings of steaks are wet aged or dry aged (and for how long), prime or choice, grass fed or corn fed. But we just didn't feel like we received a good enough value to return. It's disappointing. We really enjoy and feel like we receive a much better value from other restaurants in town. Our favorite is Flemings, and a close second of Hondos. [We also liked Morton's (when they were in town) and several other local and chain steak houses] Both are in the same general price, but it's just a better value. I have been to Ruth Chris numerous times & it just keeps getting better. We ordered fried oysters appetizer & had steak, lobster, crab cakes as main entree with 2 ala carte sides -asparagus & potatoes au gratin. Everything was perfect. I was a little skeptical about spending the extra money to add the lobster tail but it was well worth it, best I've ever had. Service was also exceptional!! When arriving to our table the hostess realized they put happy anniversary confetti on our table instead of happy birthday (we thought nothing of it) but she came back and switched the confetti for the appropriate occasion. Our server was great also he gave us great recommendations & was not pushy when we declined dessert, but for the occasion he did give us complimentary cake and icecream. Firstly, the environment was welcoming from the moment we stepped foot into the establishment. The hostesses were smiling and friendly upon entry, and we seated ourselves momentarily by the fireplace in anticipation of our table being ready. The ambiance was elegant and classy, yet warm and inviting. Our server, Kailey, was incredibly precious: She was personable, charming, informative, elaborative, and attentive, and contributed significantly to what was undoubtedly a positive first-time experience - we couldn't have been more pleased with her level of service, and would not hesitate to request her on subsequent visits. For our appetizer, we ordered the barbecued shrimp, which was PERFECTLY cooked and sinfully delicious: It was succulent and indulgent, and the sauce added a buttery sweetness with a subtle hint of barbecue - easily my favorite menu item, hands down. The Caesar salad preceded my entree and, while fresh, was underwhelming at best. The lettuce was fresh and crispy, and the cherry tomatoes were equally fresh and juicy. The cheese was strong in flavor, which was especially appreciated, and the croutons were light and crunchy with a buttery, garlic flavor. However, the dressing left much to be desired, as it was relatively light in comparison to others. Overall, the Caesar salad as a whole was virtually flavorless, and my least favorite menu item, as a result. My entree item, the 11 oz filet, was PERFECTLY and BEAUTIFULLY cooked to the desired medium rare. It had a mild, but noticeably 'beefy' flavor, and was satisfyingly tender. The seasonings penetrated beautifully, creating a layered flavor profile that was simple, yet captivating in anticipation of the next bite - 10 out of 10 recommend. As for the sides, the garlic mashed potatoes were fresh and buttery with a garlic flavor that was noticeable, but not overpowering. The creamed spinach, however, while creamy and smooth was under-seasoned and, much like the Caesar salad, was virtually flavorless, as a result. The chocolate sin cake was a pleasant conclusion to our dining experience, as it was densely chocolaty with a 'coffee' undertone. The raspberry sauce was especially sweet, but paired well with the boldness of the chocolate, and the texture was effortlessly creamy with a 'melt-in-your-mouth' feel that christened each bite just as, if not more delicious than the one prior. While I do feel as though some of the menu items were a bit overpriced for the quality, regarding the experience as a whole, I would definitely recommend Ruth's Chris Steak House - my first visit will most likely be far from my last. read more
