I have been loving the food at mellow mushroom midlo! While there are a lot of pizza places in the area, mellow mushroom stands out for me as a great place for both vegetarians and carnivores alike. I love that I can add tempeh to any of the pizzas to add vegetarian protein. Their thin crust is to die for and is consistently good! My absolute favorite it's on the menu is the tempeh hoagie. It's a unique sandwich, tasty, a great size, and is packed with lots of great ingredients. I am craving another right now the ambiance inside is laid back and funky although sometimes the pick up service is not the best. We had a woman that was very rude about us arriving early for our pick up order even though we had a text message that stated our food was ready. Holy shiitake pizza is usually always good. However this visit at this location we waited over 45 minutes only to get cold pizzas. Finally after over an hour of waiting for 2 small pizzas, the manager Esteban brought us new pizzas and explained that the cold ones were somehow overlooked and not brought out to our table. The red sangria is better than the white. I would've ordered another drink while we waited but they were just too busy for me to order one. Not a great experience this time around. This was our first time eating at mellow mushroom. The pizza was amazing - the only thing I'd advise if you get any half/half speciality pizzas. Keep in mind that the ingredients cook differently. We got half speciality and half cheese. The speciality crust was a lot softer than the other half. The wings were great - I wish I would have asked them to cook a little harder. But they were still great. The burger wasn't the greatest. But not sure what to expect from a pizza spot. My son thoroughly enjoyed the philly cheesesteak. That is a thumbs up. I had an absolutely stellar experience at this spot last week! The pizza was really delicious -- I had a small pie with vegan cheese, spinach, mushrooms, and their really wonderful tempeh (at a pizza place?? YES PLEASE!) The atmosphere was perfectly funky, casual, and welcoming, too! I think the thing that I was especially happy about was the service. Our waiter knew the menu in and out, and was careful to make sure that my vegan needs were met. And then again, a member of the kitchen staff came out to the table before they made my pizza to confirm that I needed everything to be vegan. Really above and beyond at this place! That tempeh, though, I'm not sure how it was seasoned but it was just delicious! A really great addition to the menu and and wonderful experience overall. I'm not sure what happened but our waitress made us wait 5-10 minutes "to let our server catch up". They only had one on duty at lunch time??? Oh well. My wife and i met up with our kids at this restaurant - and we were pleasantly surprised that not only was the pizza very good (considering it isn't a NY pizzeria in NY) but the service was excellent. They seated us when our party was all present, 5 adults and three kids, one an infant - and we had no cause to complain at any point during our meal. We ordered a selection of pizzas in addition to other meals, sides and drinks and we were served very well. My favorite was the Mighty Meaty, which comes with Pepperoni, Italian sausage, ground beef, honey ham and applewood-smoked bacon on top of Mellow red sauce and mozzarella. We dine/takeout at/from this spot all the time. I prefer it to the Carytown location, in that there's a lot more space and a ton of convenient parking. This space is great for entertaining - small parties are welcomed (even little ones) and the pizza is pretty consistently good. The customer service has been consistently pleasant, and if you come often enough the staff tends to remember you. I'd say about 65% of the time my order is done exactly right and to my liking. Most instances, if I speak up, the problem is rectified; but beware, on a busy pizza night (Friday, Saturday, Game days, for instance) it can be a big challenge to get things fixed. If you want delicious pizza, lots a toppings variety, and a cool, trendy atmosphere, go for it! No better local pizza on this side of town at all. read more

We've been to this restaurant four times now; it's one of our "once a year" restaurant things. The wait staff has always been quite good, the seating is ok but y'all might want to check the somewhat over sized chairs around a few tables! After we were seated at our last visit, we both seemed to slowly sink down in these cloth reading chairs - a bit far, actually. Nothing like eating your lunch with your knees in your nostrils! Lol! We once again split the bruschetta appetizer before our lunch, which is absolutely delicious, by the way. :*) Next, our pizza arrived; I cannot recall the menu name, so let's call it a version of a "meat lovers" pizza. It was good, too, but we both have one issue with the pizza here- the crust. Don't get me wrong... The taste of said crust is quite good! For the price we paid, the one item that actually elevates is your pizza IS the crust - but, for lords sake! To us, the way the pizza is made is 2/3 sauce and toppings, and 1/3 crust! I guess we fill a tad "cheated". To us, the crust should be maybe 1/2" - not the almost 2"...It's like a personal pan pizza in the washed in a sea of crust. ‍ I know it may be that this is some pizza recipe slash country of origin 'thingy' going on, but it's irritating. We hope that we can find something another entree on your menu next visit. Besides that, we enjoyed the visit! On 051423, Mother's Day, we arrived after 1900. We asked for seating in the patio for 2. First of all the restaurant was very empty. At the patio, only 3 other tables were occupied. We waited for someone to take our order. One server came out asking if we had ordered a soup. Of course not. We waited a bit and noticed a waitress attending a couple seated opposite us. A bus girl was cleaning tables. After 10 minutes I started my stopwatch. At 10 minutes no one had come to take our orders, but the bus girl came out a few times to clean and the waitress checked om the couple and never once looked at us. The manager did not make rounds. I was hungry and my wife was feeling pressure in her chest from this bad experience so we left without talking. No one came after us to see what was wrong. After going to Mission BBQ, a much better restaurant that supports veterans and eating, we finally called the restaurant to file a complaint with the manager. We will be talking to the owner soon. I usually visit the MM in Carytown, and this was my first time visiting this specific location. I met up with a friend who is a new mother and she brought her baby girl. The service we received was spectacular. Our waitress, Itzy, was attentive, caring, and friendly. She really went above and beyond to make sure my friend and I had a good experience, even throughout some of the mishaps in the kitchen. We ordered a small pizza, large pizza, wings, and pretzel bites. They made a mistake and made the pizza that was supposed to be a small a large (a great mistake to make haha) and still only charged us for the small, which was nice and the right thing to do. Additionally, somehow the large pizza we ordered didn't get processed, so they forgot about that part of our order. As a result, we received that pizza late, but they apologized and gave it to us on the house. The pizza, wings, and pretzel bites were good but I was really blown away by the customer service and the fact that they recovered extremely well from the mistakes they made. For a change of pace the Mrs and I came here to sit at the Bar of a bit and have some calzones. We've had them before- and they are good. Oddly enough neither of us ordered one. We arrived during happy hour. The bar area is nice and was about a 3rd filled. By the time we left it was packed. And for matter the entire restaurant was packed.. the pizzas were flying out fast and furious. The beers were half off during happy hour and their appetizers specials. We got the spinach artichoke cheese dip and the pretzel bites. The portion of the bites was enough for a few people. I actually had more than I should and it filled me up. The cheese dip was spot on. It was on the lukewarm side when we got it. But it was replaced- no cost- with a screaming hot one. The dip and bites pretty much filled us both up. So, she got a half portion of Thai chili wings which resulted in multiple "yums" and I ordered a medium Pepperoni so I could have a slice and take the rest home. The crust is light with the right amount of chew. Plenty of cheese, pepperoni tasted like pepperoni should. We each had a slice for lunch the next day and she said "this is really good pizza." I thank Mellow Mushroom for bringing something new to the area's pizza game. The "fast food pizza" companies (Papa Johns, Dominos, etc) can't hold a light to Mellow Mushroom. The local Italian restaurants might offer a decent takeout pizza pie but even if they all joined forces they could never compete with the quality and diversity of ingredients and delicious creativity used to design MM's specialty pizzas. My favorite is to go with a group of 3-4 and get two medium or large pies because at that point we can do 2 half-half pizzas and try a total of 4 of the special pies from the menu. I love sampling the various red sauce and white pizzas and have yet to make any bad decisions when ordering. MM is entirely where it's at when it comes to good, quality pizza in 2022. read more

Tonite we went to Mellow Mushroom and had the worst experience both from Service and food quality. I had the chicken wings. They were horrible. It tasted like they had gotten cold and had been warmed up from another day. It also came with carrots and celery sticks. The carrots were fresh but the celery had brown edges where they had been cut previously and started to turn brown. They were not fresh at all. We did not finish our food. We also had the Pacific Rim pizza which was very delicious and fresh. Our server was not attentive at all and I had to waive him down for refills and more napkins. So disappointed in the food! I had hoped that a place that did primarily pizza would have done it better. Maybe it was that the ingredients were a little too trendy, but the dough was too thick and the toppings too "meh". We had some wings to start. They were served room temperature and served on a plate that made the portion look far too small. Not to mention the plates are plastic, so you feel a little like you're at a Pizza Hut. Don't get me wrong, I like a Pizza Hut, just not prepared for that vibe. The small Greek salad stole the show for me. Fresh and delicious! They have some sort of house dressing I got on the side that was too heavy (thick like a dip, not dressing) that I decided not to use. I stuck with the balsamic, which was great! We had a wonderful visit last month but when we decided to visit last night, the attentiveness and hospitality will be hard to match.
