We went here for lunch on a Wednesday. The big beer hall style tables and benches were all cleaned and organized, and we were greeted immediately. You can order at the counter or by scanning a QR code from the tables. It was our first time, so we had some questions, which the server patiently answered. He was just delightful- friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the drinks they had on tap. Food was brought to the table as quickly as possible- they cook to order, and we had burgers, a chicken sandwich, and schnitzel platters. The burger people complained a bit about the buns being so big and making it hard to eat, but they were happy with the sandwiches overall. The chips that came with were delicious- not at all greasy, and nicely salted. The schnitzel comes with two sides. One had a salad and fries, the other coleslaw and warm German potato salad. The fries were hot, crispy, and properly seasoned, and the coleslaw and side salad were pretty standard. The potato salad stole the show- warm, baconey, and vinegar forward. Just excellent. The schnitzels were tender and nicely breaded, exactly right. The gravy on the side was peppery, but nothing special. The only disappointment was the bottled horseradish mustard on the table, which had no horseradish or mustard flavor. I wish they had a German mustard or even a spicy deli mustard on the table. Drinks- they have lots of beer, cider, and wine choices on tap, but for non alcoholic and soft drinks only cans or bottles of Boylans. I really appreciated that they have self serve ice water. I wish they had a couple nonalcoholic beers or ciders on tap. Overall, this is a fun restaurant. The pork shanks they were preparing for the evening special looked spectacular, so next time we'll come in the evening! read more

Decisions decisions! There are so many great things on the menu! I couldn't decide between the go-to schnitzel sandwich with German potato salad or another sandwich. So...I got two! Food is usually really good. Ended up waiting over an hour for one appetizer and a sausage on a bun. Wasn't really that busy. Only two people in front of us when we ordered with a handful of tables sat. They refunded us the money but was repeatedly told "another 5-10" minutes numerous times: even after the refund they said an ADDITIONAL 10 minutes were needed (ended up taking another 20). People around us also mentioned they had been waiting a while for their food. I've noticed this a lot recently when going: great food but can take a long time even for a simple order. Had we known it would've taken this long we would have left but nothing was mentioned about them being backed up. After finally getting our food over an hour later, the order was wrong and out of frustration we left. Not a great experience. read more

I've been here quite a few times. Normally settling on the Fancy Nancy or Schnitzel. Well worth stopping by on Sunday to get the $11 Schnitzel Platter with 2 sides. Cucumber Salad and the Sauerkraut are also always a hit. German Potato salad is also good but to igjt it was a bit oily. read more

I was looking for someplace new to have a drink and I decided to stop in today. I was able to try a few samples, which helped me decide on the Paulaner Lager. I ordered a giant pretzel to go with my beer. The pretzel was huge and came with some German mustard which went well with it. The service was good, the workers were friendly, and the beer was nice and cold. My only complaint was the price of the pretzel--at $9, it was almost the same price as a burger. My husband and I went on a Wednesday around lunch after visiting the Richmond Zoo. There were a few customers. After speaking with the staff, I was told they get busy on Wednesday Polish Days and Sunday $5 schnitzel days. The Schnitzel Sandwich was so yummy. Think chick fil a but with pork tenderloin and a more robust potato roll. Their cole slaw was very peppery and not laden with mayo. I'd say it's more of a vinegar base but didn't have the sour flavor of vinegar. We shared the giant pretzel which lived up to its name. The cheese dip was good as was the spicy ketchup with horseradish. One small comment: I think they need a larger bowl for their side salad. There were lots of beer choices, local and international. I would have loved to have been able to sit and try a few more. Especially since the beers were served with a frosty mug. Nothing like a truly cold beer. The decor allows for lots of interaction with others in the German Style. They have very large square tables with benches and long tables with benches. Another comment: some of us old folks need back support which we found on benches up against the wall. Maybe some bar stools with backs?? The staff were very nice. We enjoyed our Monday lunch here. Each item we ordered was perfectly tasty and everything your tastebuds for German food would crave. My wife and I are big fans of this place. It's one of the few German themed places in the area. They have Snitzel, all types of wurst, yummy pretzels and lots of beer options. We always start with their beer pretzel with beer cheese and are never disappointed. It's huge and so tasty. Then I go for either the brats or snitzel. The brat is so good and has beer cheese on it that makes it so awesome. For the kiddos you can get chicken tenders and fries which are just as good as anything else. The staff are nice and very helpful. One complaint would be that there's nothing really to do here. No TVs, no sort of activity on the tables. It's great for a group or some one on one time but not really a place for a Sunday sports evening. read more

I can't wait to go back! I stumbled upon Fest when we were driving to the Zoo. I made a mental note that we should try it and I'm so glad we did. We met friends for lunch and were greeted upon arrival. We could order at the table or at the counter. The QR codes made it very easy to see the extensive menu. There was so much to choose from. We started with the giant pretzel and cheese sauce. It was really good. It seemed to be a little buttery and garlicky. Very yummy! I got the beer cheese burger and fries for lunch which was also very good! Only thing I would change would be the mixed greens to regular iceberg lettuce. I stopped in for lunch with my partner and after sampling a few things on tap and agonizing over the menu, I settled on a deliciously tart radler an absolutely magical Hunter (with duck and bacon sausage, beet chutney, and goat cheese), and the apple salad to share. I have to preface this review that I got a sandwich for takeout. Overall it was pretty good with marinated and well seasoned grilled chicken and homemade chips. The staff was friendly and they left the to-go box cracked open in the bag to prevent everything getting soggy from the heat of the cooked chicken, which I appreciated. Even with that courtesy the spring mix lettuce in top didn't travel as well as I would hoped. I also had added a side of ranch hoping that in a place that made homemade chips they also had homemade ranch. I was disappointed to find that it was bottle. By far the worst experience. Ordered the Philly Burger: a beef burger with fries and chicken Caesar salad. 1. Called in order, was given a pick up time. Arrived during the expected time order wasn't ready. They prepared it has we waited. (It wasn't packed in there). 2. Our food was HORRIBLE. My beef burger, tasted like spicy SAUSAGE. My up charged fries were not edible, they were cold and hard. After consuming the sausage burger (3 bites) I was sick to my stomach. Needless to say I've had a rough night.
