Schnitzel Sandwich
Don S.

I've lived in Germany for over 14 years and my Mother was German. The food at Fest equals some of that same German food I had growing up and while serving in the military overseas. The schnitzel sandwich is so flavorful. The potato salad is so authentic tasting. And you have got to try the giant Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese and mustard. Great selection of German beers. The service is outstanding, and the staff is super friendly! And the restaurant reminds me of the old Oktoberfest days in Munich with its long tables. If you can't afford to fly to Germany for Oktoberfest, this is the closet place to it!

Great beer cheese burgers, and chips. Dill pickle reminded me of the ones my mom used to make (yes it was yummy ) Service was awesome, and the ambiance is perfect for a relaxed place to eat after work. Will be back! Thank you Fest Midlothian!

I was looking for someplace new to have a drink and I decided to stop in today. I was able to try a few samples, which helped me decide on the Paulaner Lager. I ordered a giant pretzel to go with my beer. The pretzel was huge and came with some German mustard which went well with it. The service was good, the workers were friendly, and the beer was nice and cold. My only complaint was the price of the pretzel--at $9, it was almost the same price as a burger. There was a good assortment of beers to choose from. It's definitely worth revisiting when I'm in the area.

The food is great and the service is always friendly and good. We love the patio and having dinner out there!

Left to right: Giant pretzel, side salad, schnitzel sandwich and Fest Cole slaw. 2 cold beers

My husband and I went on a Wednesday around lunch after visiting the Richmond Zoo. There were a few customers. After speaking with the staff, I was told they get busy on Wednesday Polish Days and Sunday $5 schnitzel days. The Schnitzel Sandwich was so yummy. Think chick fil a but with pork tenderloin and a more robust potato roll. Their cole slaw was very peppery and not laden with mayo. I'd say it's more of a vinegar base but didn't have the sour flavor of vinegar. We shared the giant pretzel which lived up to its name. The cheese dip was good as was the spicy ketchup with horseradish. One small comment: I think they need a larger bowl for their side salad. There were lots of beer choices, local and international. I would have loved to have been able to sit and try a few more. Especially since the beers were served with a frosty mug. Nothing like a truly cold beer. The decor allows for lots of interaction with others in the German Style. They have very large square tables with benches and long tables with benches. Another comment: some of us old folks need back support which we found on benches up against the wall. Maybe some bar stools with backs?? The staff were very nice. The food was yummy and the beer selection was great. I'd be a regular if I didn't live 45 minutes away.

We enjoyed our Monday lunch here. Each item we ordered was perfectly tasty and everything your tastebuds for German food would crave. We ordered the Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese, sausage sampler, the Texan and a side of sauerkraut and potato salad. I recommend them all! Paired with a lovely light beer that the cashier recommended with a sample. The restaurant is styled as I would imagine Oktoberfest here would be a 10/10. Thank you for a great lunch with my family :)

I had an excellent, generous, gracious meal at the Bavarian Chef this afternoon for my birthday…read more I'm still groaning! The food was fabulous and we got the full complement of sides--whipped potatoes, green beans, creamed corn, spaetzle, carrots and apples, potato dumplings, zucchini, braised red cabbage, German potato salad, maybe more (my belly's so full, I'm not remembering well...)--rye rolls, red pepper soup with crab, trout with almonds (yum!). We had a very nice dry German Riesling and. German Pinot Noir. The five of us shared a piece of the amazing German chocolate cake. Our server, Nick, was very pleasant, efficient and professional--good at his job and possessing a beautiful, warm smile. I had an Asbach Sidecar that was very well made. I see a negative review from a couple of months ago (~February 2026-ish?) that sounds like it was written about another restaurant, not the delightful Bavarian Chef I know and love. The writer of that poor review seems to have been enjoying the sound of her own writing (which leans toward the overly dramatic and away from anything like an honest review) more than trying to express anything real about the Bavarian Chef. She seems to have an ax of some kind to grind, as she could find not one nice, decent thing to say. I disagree with her with every well-seasoned, perfectly cooked vegetable and flavorful rye roll digesting in my belly right now. The Bavarian Chef is a treat. You'd be a fool to miss it!

All three of us were completely underwhelmed, Nothing was terrible, but nothing wowed us, and for the price we wanted wow. We started with drinks and the bread. The cottage cheese/butter mixture was yummy, but the rolls were overdone and dry inside. I only ate half of mine. The house white wine was lovely and my son had a very creative and interesting cocktail. The gem lettuce salad was wonderful. - the highlight of the evening. Tender lettuce, fresh herbs, green goddess dressing. The spring peas with wasabi butter were quite good as well. Then things went downhill. The spaetzle dish was a huge disappointment. The pasta was mushy, and we could barely taste the raclette. The charred broccolini on top was great, but that's not why you order spaetzle. We told the server that we didn't care for the dish, but she didn't ask for further details. The white asparagus has a strange vinegar flavor, but was rescued by the lovely sauce. We all ordered the chicken schnitzel. I'm still scratching my head over what the chef was trying to accomplish. The schnitzel itself was tender and perfectly cooked. The few bites I had without sauce were quite good. But the chicken was drenched in an overwhelming sauce (romesco?) although I think the menu said it was a Thai sauce. Whatever it was, it didn't go with the schnitzel at all. The endive on top of the schnitzel was delicious, however. Also, the menu said the dish had currywurst in it. None of us could taste even a hint of it. Portions are modest, and we could have eaten dessert, but none of us wanted to be expensively disappointed even further, so we called it a night.

On entry is a cute but spacious Bavarian themed eatery, some high tops a small bar and plenty of booths and tables. We chose a cozy corner. Service was attentive and friendly, unsweet tea nicely brewed. We chose a cheese plate appetizer, followed by rouladin for one of us, which was devoured. The other of us chose a nicely breaded Weiner schnitzel. Sides of potato dumplings, sauerkraut and red cabbage were great compliments. The dessert choices were plentiful and the apple German cheesecake was suggested. It came with a side of caramel and was just the right compliment to the end of our meal. Total was under $70 plus gratuity for 2 drinks, an appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert. The environs are very casual and give off a Bavarian blue, white and yellow themed vibe.
