When I originally heard there was a Chuy's opening in my hometown, I really didn't think there was any way that it could compare to my favorite Barton Springs Rd. location from college. I mean, it's in the burbs! I was wrong, it's almost just as good as the original (because let's face it, everything's better in Austin :-P) just with a different crowd. Expect a wait, especially on the weekends, but that's the case everywhere in Katy (btw, why are there like 50 billion people living out there now??). Don't answer that, I work at Hwy 6 so I guess if I had a family, I'd be out there too...anyway, I digress... Lunch has always been a breeze here with my coworkers. Plenty of my favorite creamy jalapeno ranch salsa and pretty solid service. Deluxe tomatillo enchiladas are my go-to, but I also love the Chuychanga with the deluxe tomatillo sauce and the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas (how could you not with a name like that?!). Anyway, if you're out west in the burbs, Chuy's is definitely a solid choice for lunch, dinner, or just a few margaritas. read more

One of my favorite Tex-mex spots is Chuys. Tried this location for the first time. It was crowded during lunch hour. Everything seemed the same. Friends did mention something was different about the salsa but we couldnt quite pinpoint what it was other than the slight flavor diff. I ordered the Elvis Presley combo which comes with 3 enchiladas (cheese, ground beef, and chicken) with chili con queso on a large chip and a hard taco but I substituted the taco for guacamole. Two of our three stars are for Reagan, our server. That lady rocks -- so much so that I told the manager how awesome she was before we left. The remaining star is for the hot-from-the-fryer-chips and the green sauce. My fiance could slather himself in that green sauce and be a happy man, JUST. SAYIN. We had the fajitas for 2. Cons: - total lack of seasoning (i.e. no salt whatsoever) - far too much burn from spicy pepper - totally uneven cook (some pieces were over the top beyond well done and some were rare) For this price (and at half the decibels) we could have had a better dinner in about 1,000 restaurants. I realize that this review is for this location; however, just to set the tone, I have been going to Chuy's in various locations for 10 years. My first visit was in 1992 in the original one (Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX) and was very excited when they opened this one close to home. This one, being the only one on the far west side of the Houston metro area, can get very crowded at popular eating times. This can lead to less than a stellar experience, but the staff does everything it can to make your visit enjoyable. When the place is full, it can get a bit noisy, which also does little to add to the dining experience but, the food and prices make up for it. I have see other reviews of Chuy's mentioning that it is over priced, I find that hard to believe and one that compared it negatively in relation to Taco Cabana! The wife and I go to this location fairly often, normally the bill is less than $27 for the two of us including appetizers before tip. We always leave with a to-go box because the portions are too big for my wife to finish. Granted we normally don't drink alcohol when we go, so that keeps the cost down, but when I have had a drink there, it is excellent and reasonably priced. read more

My Families favorite! Order: We order the fajita's, nacho, deluxe chicken enchilada, and the chicken quesadilla pretty much every time. The Scoop: We have taken out of town families here twice and both loved this place and the food. We even went back a couple days later! I am now a diabetic so typically get fajitas but before that I loved the Chicken Chueychunga. My mom and mother-in-law love this as well. Likes: The food, atmosphere, tortillas, just about everything. Meh: Wait Staff- Sometimes they are awesome, other times not so much. Not bad but not great. I think this is typical for restaurants in general but I have to be honest. Dislikes: Nothing, maybe the fact that I can't eat the Tres Leches Cake. First, I want to start off with, I've always been a fan of Chuy's. There have been a few off times that I wasn't super impressed - but that's any place in reality. Service is always great the food is fantastic, especially the Taco Salad w/ Fajita Beef topped with the ever famous creamy jalapeno sauce. I usually get at least 1 Texas Martini... they are the bomb dot com!!! My little girl loves it, my husband loves it because it's good and easy on the wallet and I am always up for not cooking when the chance comes up! LOL. Oh! And you can't forget the bar area has the trunk open during happy hour for *FREE* queso & ground beef for self service. Also, pick your times like any other busy restaurant, don't be silly and show up at dinner time with everyone else or you'll be waiting for a bit. I worked at Chuys at different locations for about 5 years. I first worked at the Shenandoah location, then the River Oaks and Westchase locations. I am not at all saying this because I am partial or have anything to gain as I no longer work there and have not for a few years, but Chuys is absolutely the best tex-mex you will eat! It is also the most clean restaurant I have ever worked. Twice a year, we have deep cleaning inspections from the owners and corporate managers that come down to personally inspect each restaurant and that's on top of the health department inspections. Every night the restaurant is totally cleaned by each server and employee. We are not allowed to leave or check out until the restaurant is perfect. When I would close the bar, I would be there for hours doing all the side work that had to be done before I could leave. As far as the food, they have such a diverse menu and their corporate kitchen manager that creates most of the menu is so talented! There are so many things you can order that aren't on the menu. For instance: the green chile cheese fries are to die for! Their chicka chicka boom boom is delish and their burritos, shrimp tacos and Cobb salad are all amazing! I saw a review saying their margaritas are expensive but most restaurants charge upwards of $9/$10 for a comparable margarita. I'd say $6 isn't bad. The best part about Chuys is the decor and not because it's loud and obnoxious, but because it tells a story. A really awesome story. The mil pescado (thousand fish) located in each bar are actually hand carved by a local man in Mexico and the business he received from Chuys actually sent his kids to college. There are many more but next time you're there, ask your server. When I first started working there, it was still privately owned and operated and we were all a great big Texas family. Things have changed for sure, but the food, cleanliness and story haven't. Long story short, go eat some great food! And take advantage of the free nacho car mon- fri 4-7. :) read more

We really like Chuy's. It's solid Tex-Mex at a reasonable price. We go there as much as we do any restaurant in the Katy area. However...., I have to complain about the Chuy's pick up service. Chuy's service is always prompt when we do the sit down thing, but for some reason the Chuy's Management has not figured out how to do the pick up thing. Last time I was there I was told 30 minutes but it was almost an hour. And everyone at the pick up area was grumbling. If Chuy's plans to continue to offer this service then they need to staff it appropriately. I will say that the lady's who are staffing it try very hard and are very nice. This last time after standing there for 20 minutes one of the bartenders offered me some chips and water. But it's the same every time we do this. I just wait and wait..... read more

We where seated right away, took our drinks, and we order our plates before 5:30pm. Unfortunately we didn't receive our order until 6:35pm. The waitress apologize and our food was comped, however, our baby by then was fuzzy and minutes away from giving those beautiful cries all people love. Well we had to pack it to go. I was tired after a long day at work and wanted a nice decent dinner. I ended up shoving what I could down and what I did was delicious as always. The waitress, server and manager were nice so I couldn't stay mad. I would have been pissed if the manager would have just offered a free dessert. Yet, he comped the whole meal. Being a frequent patron of the River Oaks location for over 20 years we'd been waiting to try this new Katy location since it's opening but, it was always totally packed. Finally we found ourselves hungry a little after 3pm recently and decided to head to Chuy's & give this place a shot. We figured the service & food would be top notch being that there were probably a total of 5 tables in the entire restaurant being tended to. Boy oh boy, were we wrong! We were seated by a seemingly nice hostess however, 15 minutes later not a server in sight. My husband finally had to go hunt one down. Apparently several were seated in a back table & didn't even know we had been seated. The server comes to take our drink orders & ends up bringing the wrong drinks. Seriously? He laughs & says he has a lot on his mind & then re-takes our drink order. Mildly agitated we're ready to also order. We gave him the benefit of the doubt but, by this point we're 25 minutes in & still no chips, salsa or drinks. C'mon, we're hungry! He finally comes back with the 2 margaritas which were only half correct. We had actually ordered salted rims but, unfortunately they were saltless. Guess my blood pressure will thank him later. He finally brought out red salsa & chips. But no joke, the salsa was the consistency & temperature of a slushee, not worth touching. We then requested the jalapeño salsa which I don't understand why he didn't bring out to begin with but, it too was ice cold. We didn't quite understand. The salsas are one of the great perks of going to Chuy's I guess they missed the memo about serving the salsas at room temp. Oh well, I ordered a ckn fajita salad & my husband ordered tacos al carbon with ckn fajitas. Needless to say the ckn on the salad was served cold & the tacos were warm at best. We asked to speak to a manager but were told he was in a meeting. So we paid the check and vowed to never return. Stay clear from this Chuy's in Katy. My best friend was about to turn 30 and we decided to have a surprise birthday dinner at Chuys. They don't officially take reservations, however, management had our reservation of 25 on their radar. I changed the reservation when I got to Chuys to 20 and when they sat us, a few more people arrived. The Chuys team quickly found us another table and were very kind about it! The waiter that we had, Andrew was outstanding!!!! He took our last names down and called us by name throughout dinner. He was super friendly, incredibly attentive and shook the hands of other guests in the restaurant as they were leaving. Andrew is AMAZING at what he does and I was so impressed. Horrible!!!!! We had a waitress and a guy in training, even between the two of then our drink were only refilled after my husband went and hunted down a tea pitcher! The waiter (not the trainee) DUMPED food on my six year old daughter. No manager even came by... then to top it off they charged us 20% GRATUITY becuase we had 6 people (not 8 which is standard). When my husband confrontated the manager about the fact that after they spilled food on our child, we didn't feel a tip was appropiate. The manager litterally shrugged and said they were in a great location and not that concerned about us telling everyone about them. Our effeminate waiter with a bandaid on his face was sitting down at a table having a personal conversation with some friends. He finally came over (forced) and took our drink order. Then he "traded" us for another waitress. We said nothing rude to him, he was just mad that we complained at the hostess stand. When we finally got our food we had to wait for forks and napkins. Good food for the Katy area. The westheimer location is a popular place to eat and drink... The Katy location does not disappoint either. The place was jammed packed, so be ready to wait for a table. The bar area was nice, the staff was very attentive and friendly. We had a big party so the wait was a little long, but nothing beer and magaritas can't fix. Once we did get a table the food and drinks were great! Highly recommend this and the other locations if you want a great time with friends and some seriously good Mexican food!! read more

Chuy's! Tex mex can come on a chain and I will still love it, what can I say? I have been to the original though and this one does not disappoint. The queso is fabulous, the chips are hot, thin, and crispy, and the food is all delicious. My only qualm is that they really have no true hot sauces. I asked for the hottest sauce to pour on my food and they brought me back the hatch green chilli sauce..not even close to hot at all! And while the creamy jalapeño still tasted just as delicious as ever, everything else we ordered was just off. We've never had any issues EVER. But for some reason today we had a bad experience. We walked in and were told to by the hostess to wait because something was wrong with the computer. In a Not very nice tone by the way. So we stand to the side and wait. 5 families walked in who were not on the list and were seated right away. 3 other families walked in and were put on a list. At this point I got a feeling we were being skipped. Still we didn't day anything. One of the servers saw us standing and asked of we were on the list already. I told him we were told to wait because of the computer issue but I assumed we were on the list since the hostess told us to wait, she never called us back up there. Plus we were only about 1 foot away where she was standing. Well we were never put on that list. I am not one to be quick to judge or take stuff personal but I'd say we were skipped because we're hispanic. All other families were white. When the server told us we were "overlooked" I looked at her and asked if we were skipped and why? Never in a bad tone, she said her head was somewhere else. Mind you she made eye contact with us several times. She just stormed outside after I asked. Not a way to react to a situation like this. read more

We stopped here this evening for something to eat and, as usual, everything was just right. The staff is always friendly and attentive. I had a couple of beers and my wife had a Pina colada. Then my wife ordered the beef fajitas. The meat was tender and the veggies were cooked perfectly. It was billed as fajitas for one. I remember liking Chuy's a lot about 15 years ago (river oaks location). I haven't had it up until I came to the Katy location. I think I will need to make a few more visits here to experience the fullness and to reconnect with what I loved before. The waitress was very good. What I liked about her is that she wasn't overly giddy as if she's just trying to get a good tip BUT she was naturally personable and to the point. She had an attitude of "this is me" but it worked for her because she was naturally good. What ever recipe they use to prepare that creamy jalapeño sauce that I had with my chips, must have come directly from ABOVE ! It was delish... For my meal I had a burrito and it was just ok. Next time I will try their enchiladas as that's usually my entree I use to test the restaurant by. I feel if a Mexican restaurant can't pull off enchiladas then HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM. My husband and I ate here with our friends from Colorado. It was an early Sunday at 5:00 p.m. and we met in the bar. Our waitress was very nice and efficient. I had a coronarita and my husband ordered a dressed Corona in a bottle. Let me tell you that you could have pickled something with as much salt that came on his beer. He had to scrape some off it was so bad. We had chips and salsa, and as all the other reviews state, the creamy jalapeno is DELISH! I ordered the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and boy was it SPICY! I love spice but it was a bit too spicy for me. It tasted good and made my husband wish he had ordered the Boom Boom sauce for his burrito. My husband's burrito was just ground beef and beans - no onions, very little cheese and was just bland. Would we come back? If someone else we know wanted to meet up there we would, otherwise there are other places to eat Tex-Mex. read more

I just love this location so much! I go with my friend probably once every two weeks and we are never disappointed. Laura and Jewelz (I believe) are awesome. They have been our favorite servers, their customer service is ridiculously good and they are so personable.
