As I walked into the restaurant the first thing that caught my eye was all the decorations on the wall and ceiling. I walked up to the hostess and she immediately greeted me with a big smile. When I sat down to wait for my table, someone came up to me and asked if I wanted something to drink. I only had to wait about fifteen minutes for my table. As the host took my to my table I noticed we had to weave in between tables because they were so close. Never did I see an empty table that still had food still on it.
Once I was seated and had my menu, my waiter immediately came up to me and asked what I would like to drink and if I wanted an appetizer. I ordered a small queso. The menu as well as the table were clean. But, I was sitting so close to other tables that I felt as if I was listening in on their dinner conversations. As I was flipping through the menu, I noticed Chuy's had a fair amount of choices for entrees but not so many that it makes you feel as if you are reading a novel. Also I noticed that there were no prices that stood out to me as very expensive.
The waiter came back with my drink fairly quickly and asked if I needed more time to look at the menu. My order of queso came out and was still very warm. The queso was creamy and tasted like real cheese not just some fake stuff they put in a bowl and warmed up. People came regularly throughout the dinner to give me refills on my water and chips. As I was spending more time looking at the menu I noticed all the paintings they had hanging up that was dealing with spanish culture. All the decorations seemed to be clean. The waiter then came back and took our order. He didn't get annoyed when we asked to take off certain items from our food.
Then I went to the bathroom. When I walked in the first thing that hit me was that it smelled like flowers rather than sewage. While the stalls were pretty clean, there were quite a few scraps of paper on the floor that I thought could have been picked up. I waited about twenty minutes for our food to come out. Each one of our dishes came out at the same time and they were all hot. I opened the packet with our utensils in it and the utensils were clean. The food was appetizing to the eye however, the presentation of the food was nothing to spectacular.
The food tasted great and all of my meat was cooked properly as well as the beans and rice. I ordered a taco salad and got a whole taco shell bowl of food for $9.99. The price, to me, is inexpensive compared to the quality and the amount of food you get. All of the parts of the salad were organized into separate piles with the lettuce on the bottom. Our waiter came and checked in on us periodically throughout our meal asking if he could bring us anything. He didn't come too often either. After we were finished eating our waiter came and asked if we were in the mood for dessert. Because I had a huge plate of food, sadly I had to decline. He then asked if he could take our plates for us. He then came back with three separate checks one for all of us, and then took the checks. When he returned with the checks, he walked away after dropping them off, and didn't hover when we were writing our tip. As we were ready to leave he said thank you for coming. We then had to try and weave ourselves through the maze of close tables to find the door and leave. Both of the hosts said thank you as well.
Overall I really enjoyed my time at Chuy's. They offer a whole experience with their atmosphere, food, and the attitudes of their employers. I had a positive experience and thought the food was some of the best Mexican food I have had. Everything was to my liking, but I do think they could try and separate the tables a bit more so you don't feel as if you are sitting in on strangers conversations. read more
