Looking for a big space with cheap food and decent food? This is the place for you. The food is decent but the prices and portions are great. Most likely you will never have to wait to go here since there is so many space. The service was super fast once we order even though it took a while for them to first come to check in on us.

This restaurant is closing in on 700 reviews and you will find it on the southbound feeder of I35 just before the 38th St. exit. When viewed from the street, the restaurant looks a lot smaller than it actually is. If you come at a busy time, they do have an overflow area to sit at and they will hand you a buzzer to let you know when you are to be seated. There's tons of seating here so they can accommodate large groups. I came here with a group of 18 people for lunch and they were able to seat us all together (we made a reservation). This place is super popular and there can easily be about 100 people inside for lunch. This is a business that has been around for over 40 years and at this location since 2011. One metric I gauge how good Tex-Mex is, is how good or bad or chips and salsa are. I really like their salsa because it is served chilled, but you can feel the heat by the first bite. Chips are good, but pretty average. Our waitress kept the chips and salsa full and dropped off plenty of napkins. The one thing that became apparently obvious when all the entres were being dropped off, was that it is quite clear you get a lot on the plate for your money. Normally, TexMex gets an acceptable three star rating from me and the refried beans and rice here are nothing special. However, the service, price and food bumps it to 4 stars. They have the right formula working for them here, decent food, price, and service keeps their customers coming back. The informative photos included spell out the rest.

Classic old Tex-mex. Sunday brunch was very busy. Serve breakfast and lunch at 11:00. Our party of six had enchiladas, tacos, migas. Everyone was happy. Service was good especially considering how busy they were. Ambience was loud and lively old Austin Tex-Mex.

Service was very friendly and food was yummmm!!! Be prepared they give you a lot of food! We could have easily split a 2 taco dinner!! I loved their chips and salsa! Salsa has a good kick to it!

Good puffy tacos. I also had a cheese enchilada. It was okay, but didn't have that tex-Mex flair. The chips and salsa was good. The waitress took our order quickly, and the food came out pretty fast. It was lunchtime. I would go back, but not for the enchiladas.

We haven't been here in forever. The place is still bustling during the noon hours. It appears that they are a little short staffed because our wait person has been moving around very quickly. My hubby and I both ordered the Village tacos without rice and beans. We love the thick homemade corn tortillas that are used for these tacos. They are hearty enough to hold the filling which in our case consisted of shredded chicken, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. The salsa had a nice spicy kick to it. The more you eat, the more you want.

I came here for the Puffy Tacos based on Yelp reviews. They are in the menu as VILLAGE TACOS. So I decided that I would order the 3 enchilada lunch special with a puffy taco on the side to check them out. I sat at the bar and the menu, chips, and tea were quickly served. The food was excellent! Also, the manager came around checking on patrons.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites.
