OK, so since my last review in '23, we have been back to Chuy's but weren't as 'thrilled' as we normally have been in the past. So, on a very recent visit with visiting family from Mississippi we came to Chuy's. The chips and salsa were still amazing and plentiful. The chicka chicka boom boom was as good as I remember but my partner's flour tortillas on his chicken fajita tacos was very substandard. The tortilla he had looked thick and NOT like when they used to make them in house. Looked like something you'd buy in a grocery store. It just didn't have the flair and taste and consistency of a typical Tex-Mex flour tortilla you see all over Austin. But the worst thing was the margaritas. We each had 3 house margaritas on happy hour. I don't know if it's HH limits on how much tequila is used but, in the past, after 2 house ritas, after I got home I was out like a light and happy about it. After 3 ritas, nothing. So that clinches it for us, there is a Mexican restaurant down the street that has HH ritas for the same price were you can actually taste the tequila. The whole evening wasn't a bust, our visitors really enjoyed the food since where they live there isn't much in the way of Mexican food. The cute little waitperson was fantastic, running this way/that way, and keeping tabs on us even when it really got busy later. All in all it was OK, but we won't be going back for the ritas unless we're willing to pay regular price to be able to taste the tequila read more

Came here for lunch recently and overall had a good experience. Chuys is always good for some Americanized Mexican food. Only complaint, and I wasn't even mad about it, but they did accidentally give me cheese enchiladas instead of chicken. They replaced it and remade them very quickly and they were pretty good. My friend jokingly suggested we come here when we weren't sure where to go eat, and we first laughed about it then decided that Chuy's sounded really good. Because it's such a basic Austin staple that everyone goes to, we didn't really think highly of it when thinking about where to eat, but we had a great time dining here. The food is very solid Tex-Mex that never blows us away but hits the spot. The chips they give are great. I got the creamy green chile chicken enchilada, which was pretty good, and it's a new menu item. It was quite spicy for me, but I have a low spice tolerance. My wife and I have come to an agreement that if we cannot make our minds on where to eat, we then default to Chuy's. Their food is always fabulous , there's one usually located close to where we happen to be, and we know we will have a good meal there. I appreciate that they offer veggie options and in the past, have very much enjoyed their meat options, not mention their creamy jalapeno sauce is out of this world. The food here was very good. Everything was so fresh. Our waiter was very attentive. He gave us great customer service despite working multiple tables. This seems like a very busy place with both indoor and outdoor seating. The music isn't so loud that you can't enjoy talking with the people at your table. I accidentally deleted the pictures of the food we had. We got the combination chicken and steak fajitas for two and our friend got the grilled chicken salad. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. I ordered a Comida Deluxe and got a frozen strawberry marg, and it was very filling for the price. The taste is pretty standard, guac is good. I also love that they give chips and salsa prior to your meal for free, and their service is great. Otherwise, the flavor is a little lacking, but I would give 4.5 stars if I could. read more

We haven't been here in quite a while so it was time for a visit. We decided to beat the happy hour crowd and the place was fairly empty on this Wed. We put in our drink order first, which of course usually consists of margaritas. If you're not in the mood for one of those or their other mixed drinks, keep in mind, they don't have hardly anything in the way of craft beer, and the wine selection is just as poor. They do serve complementary chips and salsa, and they even include a ranch dip as well. The salsa makes it or breaks it for me. Theirs is made in a pico de gallo style but it wasn't hot or spicy at all and was watery......meh. No jalapeños were included with our meal either. We got the chicken fajitas and the beef fajita enchiladas and they were more than filling. They always give you more refried beans and rice than you actually ever need so we had leftovers. When it comes time to settle up the bill by credit card, they do not have a handheld device, but instead will risk it away to another location. On both arriving and departing, I noticed the building was showing some age and there were layers of dust closer to the ceiling and the bathroom itself was just a little too cozy. Chuy's is not only my favorite casual Tex-Mex chain in Austin, but this location in particular has been good to us since we moved into a nearby apartment complex. Parking, getting seated at a table, and interacting with their servers has always felt so effortless; everyone is very laid-back and makes you feel at-home. Their food is always consistent, comes in large portions, and remains inexpensive despite the rising cost of living in this city. Our regular rotation of favorite menu items include their queso with tortilla chips, mexi-cobb salad with cilantro vinaigrette, chimichanga with deluxe tomatillo sauce, and chicken flautas. I would like to commend the wait staff for all of the time and attention they gave our table of 15 women. They joined multiple patio tables together and truly made the night festive, special, and memorable. On my end of the table, our server, Elijah J, was personable, welcoming, energetic, enthusiastic, and capable. He seemed to be a new server there, but his warm and engaging personality more than made up for his speed. The waitress argued with my colleague about the price for a side of sour cream and it was just absurd...as if she was the one paying for it. A few years ago was a much bigger fan. I still really enjoy their Mexican martinis and the food is pretty yummy. I was really disappointed. They got rid of their amazing happy hour with the nacho trunk. And the last time I went to service was just meh. The waiter just about seemed like he was annoyed to have us there. On top of that, it was my friends birthday. I brought a gift that was sitting there on the table told my friend happy birthday in front of the waiter.
