Went to check out the new place in town for dinner. Waitress was very nice but could not answer questions about the menu. I had the fish and chips which was salmon, a bit under cooked in the middle and had a strong fishy taste do to the grey under skin layer not being trimmed off. Fries were good and had a good serving size. My brother had the mushroom burger which had good flavor but maybe a little strong on the garlic. Burger came medium rare and was too mushy for him to be able to finish. At this point we spoke to the manager about the burger and he said that all their burgers came that way and that was that. No offer to make it up to us or any interest in listening to us. Said that no one else had complained but based on the review by Ray H. we were not alone in this opinion. Very nice staff, always made sure we we're doing okay. The menu looked quite promising as Springfield is limited for dinner places. We we're split on the food. The Ernie Kent and the club sandwiches we're quite good. The BLSDT was okay and the Sloppy Pig couldn't be eaten, way too heavy on the horseradish.....couldn't taste anything but horseradish. That sandwich ruined the Cajun fries, which I'm sure would've been good otherwise. Will probably try again but more cautious about what I order. read more

I went to Chow for lunch. Not impressed the burgers they were no better than the last restaurant that was there. The tables had a tacky look to them cloth napkins and with paper covers and burlap table cloths. The food was under cooked and the fries were small and skinny.The meat did not seem to have any flavor. The only difference from the former restaurant is that the cost went way higher. I would not recommend to any one. One nice thing is the waiter was very nice I would recommend him for a better place. read more

I challenge you to find a more perfectly cooked piece of salmon the Eugene/Springfield area. Sure, the bacon, burgers, and fried pickles are deliciously exceptional, but it is the unexpected menu items where moe's truly shines. The salmon is downright delectable. The Brie Apple bacon Mac and cheese will forever alter if you consider ordering mac and cheese elsewhere. And the ratatouille? Let's just say now I know what Disney had in mind when they features this dish in the aptly named movie. This place is a can't miss- but come hungry and don't count calories. read more

Took beautiful bride to Chow for an "I'm too tired and hot to cook" dinner. Bride had a BAB sandwich...Brie, Apple, and Bacon on grilled bread with Swiss cheese. She showed all the signs of mouth rapture. I got a bite... darn tasty. I had the Onion Burger. Wow...seared with garlic and onions, onion jam, and deep fried onions, with a smear of mustard... the burger was rare (as ordered), the deep fried onions were fantastic, as was the onion jam. Mints did not diminish the "strong food eaten" quotient. I also had the Parmesan Garlic Fries. Those alone are worth the trip here. While tempted to indulge in the bread pudding... I decided against... because I was way too stuffed. I look forward to a cold and rainy night for bread pudding and coffee with strong stuff in it from the bar under the same roof. While I'm still somewhat dazed by too much to eat- I still give 'em 5 stars. And Bekka was a heck of a waitress... and also worth the trip. read more

Just joined six of my closest friends for lunch at Chow. Three of us had the chicken salad, two had cobb salad, one Greek salad, and I had the chef salad. Everyone raved about the salad except for the woman who had Greek salad. It was way too spicy for her but the chef came out and said he would replace it with one that wasn't so spicy. The server was great. She was attentive and when she didn't know the answer to a couple things she made sure to go find out. She boxed up our left overs for us, which is always a nice touch. The ambiance was weird. There was one florescent light shining down on us in an otherwise dark room. None of the decor really went together. Their claim to fame bacon was good, if you like your bacon sweet. My son loved his Mac and cheese. My Monte Cristo and my husband's fries had too many flavor combinations that did not go together at all. Every sauce that I tasted was trying too hard and not succeeding. If we return we will take the server's advice and try a burger. Glad to see Springfield has some dining options. read more

Usually the food is amazing. I called in an order and went to pick it up. Got there, granted, I was on the phone (my apologies) and she asked if i was here to pick up an order. I said yes. She got it together, I paid and was on my way. I got home and realized it was wrong. So I called and they told me the break in communication was that I said yes when she asked if i was there to pick up an order. That was it. No offer to make it again. No offer to refund even some money. Nothing. It is too bad that the service is so terrible. Because the food is amazing. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in on Sunday after being out of the country for a couple of weeks... We were craving a good ol' burger sooo bad, and after eating one here, we were so happy we came to Chow. We found it on Yelp as we do not live in Eugene. It was easy to get to from the freeway. The burgers were unique and amazing. We kept looking at the menu after we ordered because it was so interesting.... Literally everything made our mouths water. The Bloody Mary was unique and delicious. I had the bacon cheeseburger on crack, and it was amazing!! Also the Mac and cheese alone would be worth going back for. Can't remember what burger the boyfriend got but he LOVED it. Good food alone doesn't sell it for me. Service is huge, as I am a waitress, I can be critical of how others do... Our waitress was outstanding. Very nice, attentive, and on top of her game. We live a few hours away but when we come back through the area we will definitely be stopping here again. Chow is a great place for lunch! I go there for lunch as many times as possible, and I am delighted by the service and food. My server, a lady named Chelsea, sat me down as quick as possible, and struck up a short conversation. I ordered the Ruthy Melt and a Pepsi. Chelsea's first priority was getting me my drink, and the second is getting me my food. I think I got my sandwich within 15 minutes of ordering. I loved the Ruthy Melt, with the Swiss and the mushrooms and the perfectly cooked beef. 15/10, want to live there. read more

I Already know what im ordering when i go back! I got the special which was a 5 cheese mac and cheese with bacon.. peppers, i tasted some chipolata in their. very good. my fiance got a hell finch burger a double Decker with amazing flavor and spiced fries. Also got fried zucchini and their version of chicken wings for appetizers with a couple of oak shire beers. Delicious! Been to Chow a couple times now, I had to double-check to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke. I came in first on a Thursday evening, and the dining room was empty when I arrived. I ordered a Black and Bleu burger with parmesan garlic fries. The bun is a house-made, sort of a ciabatta style bread, and it was very nice (not too bready, but substantial enough to support the burger). The burger was well-seasoned with cajun spices, topped with arugula and bleu cheese, and cooked perfectly medium-rare. On my second visit, I had the Big Mamma, a towering monster burger with two patties, ham, sugar encrusted bacon, an over-easy egg, a few cheeses, etc. It was otherworldly. The service on both occasions was very good (prompt, friendly, polite, and HELPFUL). I love burgers, probably to the point of it being a problem. They're my favorite food...and once upon a time I went to culinary school and worked as a chef in pdx, so I make the following assertion with utmost gravity: to wit, Chow's burger is matched only by the Bourbon and Bull in Redding, California (which is a veritable diamond in the rough!). It is head and shoulders above any other burger I've had in Oregon (lived in pdx for 6 years, and Eugene for 5), and ties with the best burger I've ever had. The only caveat I have with raving about the burger is that people have different tastes, and so undoubtedly some will read my review, come to a different conclusion, and be let down. Different strokes.... The ambiance at chow isn't off-putting, but it also is not great. If improvement is to be done with this establishment, this should be the focal area. Some barriers to break up the room would be nice, as well as a false ceiling, different lighting, acoustical treatment, etc. I don't know, I'm a chef, not an architect. Hire somebody talented to figure that out. Next time, I might have to try something other than a burger, because I now am of the opinion that Chow's chef knows exactly what he wants to do, and is a master of his craft. But, if you haven't tried Chow's fare, you should give them a chance to impress. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful lunch there yesterday. We were from out of town and the next time we are in Eugene/Springfield we will for certain stop in. The food was hot and fresh. My boyfriend and I are new to Springfield, and Chow has already become our favorite place to eat. The staff is wonderful, but Leanne is our favorite. Sweetest waitress ever. The food is the stuff you drool over on Diner's, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I've tried a few of their dishes so far, and they've all been fantastic. Their burgers are their specialty, but their cream-based chicken noodle soup is THE BEST CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP I'VE EVER HAD. I know they try to source as much as they can locally, which is an added bonus. Honestly, this is much better than any restaurant I've tried in Eugene, so it's worth coming over for. This is one of those places that I'm excited to introduce guests to. read more

A bit of Eugene...in Springfield. That's not a bad thing; just a thing. Their menu has lots of interesting versions of old favorites (grilled cheese sandwich, burgers, salads). I probably would have given Chow a 3.5 rating if that were an option, just because I truly didn't LOVE my food. But I can see how others would. The menu items were just too overwhelming for me, too much of a good thing, if you know what I mean. One thing for sure, you had better LOVE blue cheese & horseradish because nearly everything has one or both incorporated. Including the ranch, I believe. Yikes. That really should not be called ranch. I realize not everyone's down with the Hidden Valley sort but at some point (theirs) it stops being ranch. ;) I didn't like any of the 3 dressings that I've tried. BUT I loved their brown sugar bacon & garlic parmesan fries. And my husband enjoyed his cob salad with blue cheese. I plan to go back and try something new but ALWAYS with the sauce on the side. The owner brought out my daughters mac n cheese himself! The food was good as well, burgers were awesome! Food......GREAT! The fact that it took over an hour and twenty minutes to get two burgers........ Not so great. I am reasonable , but a couple who came in 1/2 after my lady and I started chatting with someone who came out of the kitchen, There two burgers were served in under twenty minutes , and still 20 minutes before ours. I'll give em another shot , I'll just make sure I have a d d so I can drink more than 2 beers while waiting. read more

My husband went there for lunch last week and he loved it so much we went there the same night for dinner. The service was great. I had the Altman and he had the Big Mama. He loves their burgers! Fair warning, the onion jam has quite a kick to it! I had to scrape mine off, but didn't mind because the rest of the burger was worth it. The burgers are cooked to medium, so if you don't like your burgers pink be sure to let them know. Their meat is ground fresh daily and normally I wouldn't eat a medium burger, but it tasted so good and the quality of the meat made the burger! The chef came out and talked to us a couple of times to say hello and the owner checked on us, too. I won't be surprised if this place is booked every night in the near future. This will be a regular date night place for us. The whiskey bread pudding was AMAZING! I wasn't a fan of the vanilla cheesecake though. I still give it 5 stars. read more

I got a bunch of food delivered to me from this company using delivered dish. Their Mac 'n Cheese was pretty awesome but the many other dishes I bought were insanely over flavored. It was like eating straight garlic and herbs. Mind you, this is coming from someone who likes to dump half a bottle of garlic powder in my pasta. We moved to Springfield recently and have been keeping an eye on when the renovations at Chow would be done so we could try it out. Last night we had out of town friends visiting so it was the perfect opportunity. Before I get into minutiae I first want to say that the food was incredible and very reasonably priced for the portions which are pretty big. Our waiter was courteous and totally on top of things, although it was a busy night and the food took a while to arrive. My husband had one of the many Mac and cheese entrees and I had a "sloppy pig" burger. He also had an arugula salad. Those were all amazing, but we should have skipped the tots appetizer, believe me, you don't need it. I forget what our guests ordered but they were very happy. My main issue that takes Chow from 5 stars to 4, was that it is really noisy in the restaurant making it difficult to hear our guests across the table. Unable to easily chat, the wait for food probably seemed longer than it really was. Chow was offering free drinks and a raffle to celebrate the reopening but honestly even though the guy announcing it was yelling, we could not really understand what he was saying which indicates that the acoustics in the building are just really bad. I hope they can do something to address the noise, because we would love to go back. In the mean time, I'm hoping they do food to go. One last thing I would be remiss if I didn't mention is that you should not step foot in here if you are on a strict diet. There are some great looking salads and lesser caloric options on the menu but it would take super human powers to pick one of those IMHO. read more

So the wait staff was great. I had a Bloody Mary and the everything special burger, I like pickles in my bloody Mary's, so I asked for a pickle. Not to much of an ask I would think. When the waiter came back from the kitchen he said the cook would only be willing to give me said pickle if I paid $7.50 for the intire fried pickle app. I've worked in the hospitality industry for sometime now and never have I heard of such an outlandish requirement......dude it's a pickle, you should serve them with your burger anyways you...dare I say it Cheapskate. What's a girl gotta do to get a damn pickle? Pay $7.50?! Anyway the burger was okay,the bacon on it was amazing... as for the Bloody. I love spicy but maybe a little to heavy on the liquid smoke, it's really easy to over due liquid smoke. At this point I don't think I will be going back as there are other places to get a good burger in Springfield that don't charge the price of a strong cocktail for something that's served as a garnish. My husband and I went to Chow for lunch yesterday, around 1:30pm. There was only one other table when we were there. We were greeted promptly. Our server was amazing! She was extremely knowledgeable about how everything was prepared and what came on each menu item. The wait time for the food was a little long for the restaurant being empty, but wasn't more than 15 minutes. My husband had one of the lunch specials, which was a brie, apple, bacon burger. He said it was very tasty, but awkward to eat and pretty messy. One note, the menu did not state whether fries or a side item came with the burgers. I had the club, which has lemon poached chicken, coke boiled ham and brown sugar bacon on grilled bread. I got the fries with truffle salt. The fries were greasy and had too much truffle salt. A little of that goes a long way. The sandwich had a tomato remoulade, which made the sandwich very drippy and soggy. Plus, too much of a good thing is just too much. So many flavors going on that I would much rather have had just the chicken on a sandwich. The pricing was pretty high (over $13 for the burger special, $10.50 for my sandwich) and I didn't feel it was worth it. Especially as I starting feeling nauseous as soon as we left and my husband wasn't feeling well either. Neither of us could eat dinner because of it. We probably won't be back. read more
