    Bruschetta
    Dale B.

Chops is still an outstanding place for a casual dinner or a special occasion. It has been a while since I visited last. I was impressed with the styling of the decor and comfortable seating. There is lots of beautiful wood and colors that welcome you. The large booth we sat in was soft and incredibly comfortable. The host and waiter were very friendly and professional. Steve, our waiter, was outstanding. He knew his menu and had great suggestions. We started with a wine selection. The house Sauvignon Blanc was excellent. The wine glasses were large and very pretty. They seemed to glow with the lighting in the restaurant. The table bread is a tasty sour dough. The crust is slightly crunchy with a very soft interior. The butter is straight up creamy butter without seasoning. We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer. The tomato and greens were very fresh. The balsamic vinegar was crisp with a nice bite. The bread was well toasted...very crunchy. Perhaps too crunchy for my taste. So crunchy that you couldn't cut it with a fork. Crunchy enough that the veggies fell off with each bite. My wife started with the tomato crab bisque soup - outstanding!! The soup was very creamy and had a smooth crab taste. The tomato sauce was very mild and gave way to the seafood base. There were chunks of crab in the soup. Excellent starter! My Caesar salad was very fresh. The fresh Parmesan was delicious. The dressing was mild and lightly applied. The croutons were very crunchy like the bruschetta. I loved the anchovies as they had a fresh, non fishy and low salt taste. The seafood manicotti was fabulous! The shell was tender and stuffed with lots of crab and shrimp. The filling was delicious with a mild seafood taste. The red sauce is where you pick up the ricotta taste with a hint of tomato. I had the chicken Alfredo bow tie pasta. The pasta was cooked perfectly...soft and firmly cuttable. The chicken was cut into small pieces, moist and had a bit of a grill char taste. The mushrooms and sweet onions were an excellent accent. The sauce was thin in consistency but had a nice Alfredo taste. The Alfredo didn't over power the dish like you would get with a traditional fettuccine Alfredo dish. Give Chops a try soon if you haven't been here in a while or ever. You won't be disappointed in the food, service or complete dinning experience!

    Sea bass with risotto

This was a fantastic dinner, and I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again. I was hesitant to order the sea bass special since it was $65, but sea bass is one of my favorites, so I decided to splurge. It was perfectly cooked, and so delicious. My only minor criticisms would be that they went a bit overboard with the micro greens (no biggie, they're easy enough to take off), and the risotto was a little congealed (think of the consistency of cold mac & cheese), but it still tasted great. Service was amazing as well. Our server and the guy at the host stand were friendly and genuinely cared about giving us a wonderful evening.

The dining room is small and elegant. Wait staff was well heeled and knowledgeable. The goat cheese croutons on the chop salad is a total must: creamy, lemony goat cheese pairs fantastically with the greens. Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection (medium). I was skeptical about the mashed potatoes (wouldn't a baked potato be better?) but these were packed with flavor: bacon, cheese, green onions- like the center of a loaded baked potato. Crème Brûlée was a bit tough but passable. Overall my date and I were wowed by our experience at Chops. I don't give five stars unless the meal is truly excellent and surpasses expectations. Chops did it for us tonight. Bravo!

It was my wife's birthday and my wife picked Chop's to have her celebration dinner. We arrived at 5p when they opened and was seated immediately. The entire staff were clad in facemask and they were constantly cleaning areas that were compromised My wife orders the French onion soup, which she said she loved. She decided on the Filet and grilled Scallops and I opted for the Chicken Marsala. I have to admit, the chicken II was served was the most moist and tender I had ever had. It comes on a "semi" hunter style and the Marsala sauce was light and not over powering. My wife's Filet and Scallops we cooked to perfection the way she likes and was very flavorful. Our server, Jennifer, was extremely pleasant and when she found out it was my wife's birthday, she offered a free desert and packed it to go for us. All in all, a great experience and we will be returning.

I love Chop's! Whenever I'm back home, I try to stop in for at least some crab cakes and a martini. The tomato crab bisque is also one of my favs! This night I went, they had a coffee crusted NY Strip as a special and it was truly amazing. Our waitress was lovely, and gave great recommendations throughout the night and they accommodated us being late for our reservation. Great place!

Signature salad and chicken tortilla soup

As anyone who follows me knows, i hate giving bad reviews. So please understand that we didn't have anything that one might consider to be a staple meal at Chops, so I will update this review if i eat here again. I'll start by saying that the staff was great. Attentive and professional. And the French martini was on point. That being said, the misses ordered the crispy goat cheese salad while I ordered the "Chop's signature salad" and soup of the day, which was chicken tortilla. The soup was on point. The bread they put on the table was pretty good, but the salads ? How do I say this without sounding mean or pompous? The "goat chees croutons" were the best part of the salads. On the menu, they looked great, but on the plate, not so much. I'm no Gordon Ramsey, but what they reminded me of was a salad that I made for dinner on Monday and kept in the fridge until Wednesday. Wet, soggy, and bland. The "signature salad " was supposed to come with some kind of ranch dressing, which one might assume to be a creamy dressing. As you can see in the picture, it was apparently the very rare and elusive "transparent" ranch that so few chefs are able to master. Both looked like they were scooped out of a big plastic tray with a bowl and plopped on the plate, dressed with a few pieces of fresh ingredients to give the appearance on a freshly made salad. I understand that salads are probably not their claim to fame, but in a restaurant that is at the higher end of the local price scale, you expect a salad that is made fresh to order and tastes that way. Frankly, I've had better salads at diners and takeout places.

Well when you go to a place named Chops you know what you are going to get, lol. Prime rib with au jus was cooked to perfection. It was served with mashed potatoes and house veggies. Waitress recommended the Chop Signature salad. It was delightful and had lettuce of course along with crumbled bleu cheese, carrots, tomatoes, bacon and egg. It was set off with a lovely peppercorn ranch dressing along with cucumbers and onions. Could not get enough, it was that good. Hubby had the crispy goat cheese salad made of mixed greens, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, balsamic vinaigrette topped with breaded goat cheese crotons. Hubby devoured the salad so it was definitely good. Service was quick and everyone had masks and gloves. Heard soft music with enjoyable lightning and out of this world martini. The raspberry lemon drop was superb and I had 2. Saw a couple on a date, and tables were well spaced. Take a trip, the food is great

The lunch bento box is straight up hits: a California roll, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, rice and your choice of teriyaki'd protein (chicken, salmon, beef, shrimp or basa, a type of catfish). I chose salmon, which was cooked perfectly. The salmon was placed on top of the rice, so the rice kind of soaked up the teriyaki sauce and made it nice and delicious. My bento lunch came with a cup of miso soup, and it was so nourishing and briny, like only miso soup can be. So yeah. I didn't taste any of the sushi here at Umi, unless you count a California roll, which I don't. But they have lots of different types of rolls, nigiri and hand rolls. Umi also has a large menu of sake. So large, that I thought I would be remiss to not get sake to go with my lunch. The menu made me do it! So I got the chiku bai Nigori sake, and it was so smooth. Sake is served in a small pitcher with a small ceramic cup. I wasn't sure if the sake pitcher was supposed to be shared, but there was only one cup, and there was only one me, so I went for it. A sake buzz during lunch ... how extravagant. I visited for a late lunch, around 1:30 p.m., and I was the only person in the whole place. I got the full attention of the very nice server, who had 20 pens in her apron ("For when it gets busy and it's only me," she said, because I asked her why she has 20 pens in her apron.) The restaurant is tastefully decorated on the inside.

I was told they have 1 team that all works Wed-Sun (closed Mon and Tues). The bartender was really nice and honest about advice on the menu. I had questions about the sashimi salad and appreciated his opinion on it. When I asked how the crab rangoons were, I could tell he genuinely thought they were a good item to order - and they did not disappoint! The picture only shows 4 rangoons because I already ate 3, so the fact it comes with 7 is a great deal. I also ordered the chirashi since I love sashimi, and I was told I was given a few extra pieces. 2 salmon, 2 tuna, 3 yellowtail, 2 scallop, 2 unagi, 2 octopus (or squid?), 2 imitation crab, some salmon roe, and 2 lobster tail chunks; seasoned sushi rice on the bottom. This was a very filling meal. It's a dimly lit restaurant with a calm ambiance. I saved this place to come back to when I'm in the area again for work.

As a seafood lover, I was sold just based on the name alone The building itself is pretty cool. We were told it dates back to the 1880s and is the 2nd oldest building in Indiana behind some other one in Indianapolis. You can definitely feel the history when you walk in. The place is small, with only about 14 tables, and everything is packed in pretty tight, but that's part of what gives it character. The old bar immediately grabbed my attention and looked like it hadn't changed much in over a century We started with the Parmesan baked oysters, which were outstanding and surprisingly fresh for being in the Midwest The homemade clam chowder was loaded with clams and flavor. It was so good it didn't need anything added to it. We also ordered a couple of smoked Old Fashioneds that were a great way to start the night I wanted sea bass, but they were out, so I went with the walleye fish and chips. It's honestly hard for me to pass up fish and chips when they're on a menu, I'm glad I did. The fish was well-seasoned and on point My wife went with a seafood combo that included seafood au gratin, bay scallops, shrimp, crab, applewood bacon risotto, and baked in a lobster creamy sauce Being in Fort Wayne for just one night, this ended up being a great find. The food was excellent, the service was friendly (Shoutout Lindsay) and the whole place had a nostalgic feel that made the experience even better If you're passing through and in the mood for seafood or live locally, I'd definitely recommend checking it out!

Big Eyed Fish on Wells Street - when you have a craving for Fish & Stroh style fish and tarter…read moresauce Yes, I know that I could go to Stroh to get this old time flavor. However, Big Eyed Fish is pretty good fish in its own right, local...and flavored like the taste I remember from the past. We visited the Big Eyed Fish location on Well's street. They have an express shop located on Huegenard Road and another dine in location at Leo Crossing. This location has been in service since 2003. It has a nice diner feel with super friendly service. You can find parking on the street or in the lot behind the store. The inside is rather large and works well for parties up to about 8 diners. There is a small bar and TV's if that is your thing. They also have a big and varied menu including breakfast items. Here is a run down of the food items: -Fried Fish: the white fish fillet is thin and fried with a thin breading. The fish is moist and tender. It will flake apart with a fork or by hand. The breading has a slight amount of seasoning and isn't very oily to taste. It has a taste similar to the Fish & Stroh style if you are familiar with that. The fillets are not very filling. For an extra $3...I went with the all you can eat option. Delicious fish! -Tarter Sauce: I love tarter sauce. In fact I might order fish to go with my tarter sauce - lol. This mayo based sauce is reasonably thick, somewhat sweet and has a hint of pickle flavoring. It's creamy and makes a perfect complement to the fried fish flavor. -Baked Beans: this side really surprised me. The bean is small and contained hamburger pieces. The sauce had a slight BBQ flavor but not enough to classify it as a BBQ baked bean dish. The meat flavor was a nice add to the smooth tomato spiced sauce. Delicious!! -Cole Slaw: I kind of use KFC as the standard for Cole Slaw. This is very similar. The slaw pieces are cut very small with only one kind of slaw. Seemingly no additives - just slaw. The sauce is mayo based, a bit more sweet along with a hint of vinegar. I loved this side too! -Hush Puppies: these balls are pretty small in diameter. The inside is very modista and sweet with that southern style corn bread taste. The outside is thicker, a bit oily to taste and has a mild corn bread taste/texture. These are probably some of the best hush puppies I've had in my southern raised life.

This is merely a statement: if your children are misbehaving and screaming and banging things on the table while other people are trying to eat their dinner, then perhaps the best option is to remove the children from the restaurant. It's always surprising to me when parents are selfish and subject everyone else in the vicinity around them to the poor behavior of their children.
