Black Canyon has a great casual but classy upscale ambiance. Warm welcoming greetings by hosts as you enter. Tasteful decor, albeit the bar, patio (seasonal, of course), or main dining area. Choice of booth or table seating. Can be a bit noisy, when tables of patrons forget they're not the only guests in the room, but not to the level that drowns out your own table conversation. Service is usually impeccable and Kiersten (our server the past 2 visits) exemplifies that: knowledgeable, attentive but not intrusive, kind, efficient, pleasant. Hubby had the not-your-ordinary wedge salad as a starter (pictured). Bacon, tomato, bleu cheese crumbles, hard boiled egg, and a creamy balsamic dressing. Very tasty! Me, always a sucker for good French onion soup (pictured), which I always order with no bread or croutons. Broth has authentic rich flavor with just the right amount of simmered onions. The only thing that might have made it even better would have been the use of Gruyere (or Swiss, instead of what seemed to be mozzarella) for the cheesy melt topping the delicious soup. Our chosen entrees tonight were the cashew crusted Mahi Mahi (pictured) served with orzo and fresh green beans, and the seared tuna (pictured) served on an umami blend of Napa cabbage and broccoli lightly dressed in sesame ginger, just-right heat, and peanuts. Black Canyon (Dupont & Lima Roads) - consistently good dinning experience Black Canyon is located on the very east end of the strip mall located near the Dupont & Lima road intersection. It can be found across the parking lot from Buffalo Wild Wings. There is always plenty of parking near the door. The restaurant is large with an inviting & modernly decorated bar and dinning area. The team here is very friendly and professional. They never disappoint. Making reservations on line is easy. I would definitely recommend reservations! On this night we were seated in the indoor-outdoor dining area. This area is more open, well lit and less intimate than the man dinning area. There were two large groups (12 and eight) seated in this area - nice for larger gatherings. You have a nice view of the lit outdoor fire place. BC has a very large menu. There is something for everyone. Overall BC is rather pricey but not as expensive as some. We started with our favorite corn bread appetizer. It's a simple 2-3 person dish. The bread is more like a southern cake than a traditional corn bread. The inside is soft, sweet and moist. The whipped butter is fluffy, smooth and makes a delicious accent to the corn bread. My wife ordered the southwest grilled chicken salad. She said the chicken was perfectly grilled and moist. The lettuce and fixings were very fresh. The dressing was very light and had a hidden cayenne pepper kick. The salad seemed to grow as you got to the bottom of the bowl - lol. My house salad was also very fresh. Plenty of side items to accent the lettuce. The buttermilk ranch dressing is somewhat unique. It has a smooth and light buttermilk texture without a strong buttermilk flavor. There are hints of ranch dressing flavors. Nicely done! I ordered the BC meatloaf. This was a mountain of deliciously blended types of meats, onions, peppers & spices. You could pick up the short rib, brisket, bacon and ground chuck flavors. The collection was moist, nicely spiced & seasoned and delicious! There was plenty of fresh and perfectly steamed broccoli - nice crisp. The Mac & cheese side was done to perfection! Nicely cooked noodles along with a very smooth & creamy white cheese sauce. From the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be a great experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff made me feel welcome right away. The food was absolutely delicious across the board. The drinks were perfectly balanced and complemented the meal beautifully. The steak was the star of the night--bursting with flavor, cooked exactly medium rare as I requested, and seasoned to perfection. Each bite was tender and juicy, and the vegetables served alongside were cooked just right, bringing out their natural flavors without being overdone. I also have to rave about the cornbread. It was out of this world--soft, buttery, and melted in my mouth. Honestly, it's the best cornbread I've ever had, and it alone is worth coming back for. I went out of town for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. We had one of the best meals I had in a while. Everything was amazing. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I have wanted to try grilled oysters and they were delicious. We had pasta with shrimp and streak. I was not asked how I liked my streak cooked or what salad dressing I wanted. One perfect spot for a great dinner with friends or your significant other. The ambience and atmosphere is great. The hostess and servers are always friendly and welcoming. I debating on making this review for awhile, cause it's going to be harsh, but here we go. The food is not great. Most of the time it's just average. For the prices, I expected this place to be much better. Cherry Old Fashion - Husband loved this and ordered two of them. 5/5 stars. Clam Chowder - $4 Cup and $6 Bowl - It's ok. It didn't have a whole lot of seafood or taste. It's very bland. 2/5 stars. New Orleans Gumbo - $4 Cup and $6 Bowl - I expected to get a punch of flavor, and it was just as bland as the clam chowder. Holy disappointment. 2/5 stars. Ribeye Steak with Rice Pilaf and Black Beans - Market Price but it cost us $45 - The ribeye steak wasn't good at all. It ate dry and the flavor wasn't there. I loved the attempt at rice pilaf and black beans, cause I haven't seen that on a menu before, but it wasn't executed well. The components were just okay, but I felt like I could get this at a cheap diner and the quality would be the same. 2/5 stars. New York Strip with Fries - Market Price but it cost us $50 - I found it interesting that a New York Strip cost $5 more than a ribeye, and I figured out why, cause it tasted better than my ribeye. Granted, I still thought it wasn't that fantastic, but it was better than mine. Fries were good. 3/5 stars. Lobster Mac and Cheese - $18 - This is by far the best thing at the restaurant. This saved the review from being 2 stars and changed it to 3. The mac and cheese was good, the lobster was good, everything about this dish was tasty. This is a must get. 5/5 stars. The service was ok. She was supposed to check with the chef about my mustard allergy for one of the dishes, but didn't remember, and I switched to a steak anyways to be cautious. Ambiance is nice for a date night. It's very mood lighting and romantic. If you're going to try this place out, here are my recommendations. If you want soup, get a small cup. My friends took me here while I was in town. Super good food and service. Our server(s) were amazing. They had switch about half way through our meal. The food was absolutely delicious. Worth the wait when we arrived. We got the bang bang shrimp. I love that the breading stayed crispy. I do wish the sauce was a bit more spicy, but the flavor was good overall. I ordered the lobster Mac & Cheese as my entree. It's a huge portion. And it's very creamy and delicious. It has a good amount of lobster. I'd personally like more breadcrumbs but overall I'd recommend it and order it again when I come to visit. My friend got the prime dip and the meat is so tender and juicy. It melts in your mouth. His wife got the filet and shrimp Cajun pasta, it was good. My only thing is that the shrimp come with the tails on so you have to remove those. There were 15 of us there for lunch today. They were expecting us. We were greeted and seated timely. Water and menus were already on the table and seats were not crammed together. Our server immediately began drink orders. All the good things continued! Our food was great, no mistakes, no mix-ups, no bill issues, we were checked on but not bugged, and our server was outstanding. Highly recommend Black Canyon. This restaurant was very busy on a Saturday around 430. I was a little disappointed in their beer/cider selection. I think the food was good but overpriced for what it was. I wanted the short rib stroganoff but they had already sold out of it. I opted for the Brussel and berry salad as a fallback. The apple cider vinegar dressing was very watery, I wish it was a bit thicker. There were a good amount of berries and nuts on it and the chicken was cooked well. We also got spinach and artichoke dip for the table and that was good. The service was spotty as they were very busy. First time at BC... We've been by it a bunch since moving to FW and wanted to give it a try. All-in-all, good but not exceptional. While the food was very good, the service was "meh" (at best) which torpedoed the overall experience. We stopped in at 11:30 for lunch on a Friday... They weren't overly busy, but steady. We weren't really greeted by the hostesses (kind of weird), but we were sat immediately at a nice booth. The inside of BC is cool and very "country modern" (hence the name); they also have a really nice outdoor seating area with a fire place. Our server was pleasant, but not really friendly... Kind of had the quintessential "RBF look", didn't introduce herself, looked annoyed/disinterested (maybe she was just having a bad day), and not attentive - I would have expected more from a restaurant on the higher end of the FW food spectrum. Aside from the service, our food was solid though... The burger itself was excellent (although we weren't big fans of the brioche bun they used) and my home supervisor's prime rib sandwich was also very good. The one annoying part about the food was we couldn't substitute the fries for a salad or different vegetable side... We had to add a salad to the order vs. being able to substitute (I don't know why restaurants do that?). Nonetheless , BC was alright... Fairly priced for the food quality, but the service was subpar - We probably won't go back, as we very much prefer Baker Street and their service is always superior. read more

How the mighty have fallen. It's very sad, this restaurant used to be in the top 3 for my wife and I. We go most Wednesday evenings as our daughter has class near the restaurant. I've been watching the slow decline for 6+ months. Tonight was the final straw. We were seated at 630pm. Ordered apps & drinks. As per usual bar drinks took longer than they should. They arrived only moments before the apps. Luckily, we were joined by friends we haven't seen in months so we weren't watching the clock. But at 750 we realize our entrees haven't arrived. 2 salads and a cheeseburger. General Manager comes over to apologize, we say we understand, but we have to leave by 820 to pick up our daughter. Entrees arrive at 815....25 minutes later!!!, I eat what I can in 5 minutes. Our "discount" is $19 on a $130 tab. I will not return. GM handled everything VERY poorly. read more

I got a raspberry lemon drop and my husband got a mango martini (blanking on the name). Both martinis were tasty and strong. I liked his better than my raspberry lemon drop. After seeing so many great social media posts from Black Canyon, I decided it would be the perfect place to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. My husband made reservations elsewhere as a surprise, but I convinced him to change them to BC. Mistake #1. I should have stayed with the original plan. When making the reservation, we let them know it was a special occasion that we were celebrating. Although the main part of the restaurant wasn't filled (at all), we were seated in the enclosed room off the patio. This room had three very large, very loud parties. So loud that not only could we not hear each other talk we could not hear the server talk either. Mistake #2. Not really the atmosphere you want for a party of two celebrating a special evening. Not only is this room loud, but it has a very distinct odor of dirty carpets similar to what you would find in an old IHOP. And, worst of all....the flies. Lots of them. Sitting on every plate of food that touched our table. GROSS. We're bringing this to the attention of the server. Her response was only "well we're next to the patio." Note to BC: your pest-control provider can help you with this. The chairs in this room are not only uncomfortable, but the upholstery is rubbing off and tearing off. Not conducive for an upscale establishment. This is what I would expect at IHOP. Our food was Cold. Heavily sauced. And unimpressive, especially after the flies swarmed in. Mistake #3. My lemon drop martini tasted like Minute Maid lemonade with no vodka. Ick. Mistake #4. And finally, when our dessert was served, our server let us know that the person doing the desserts was NEW and she really should've put more than a tablespoon of ice cream on top of the brownie, however, she told us if we wanted more to let her know. She could order and charge us for an additional scoop of ice cream. Are you kidding me? Really? Mistake #5. Upon leaving, my husband commented that this establishment was really on the level as a Longhorn Steakhouse. Agreed. And now, officially off our list. read more

I came here last week with my girlfriend and loved it! Perri was an amazing server and she treated us SO well! She was so knowledgeable and kind and didn't have to fit us In but she did! So thankful and glad! And the food was CRAZY good. The sirloin was cooked perfectly and you can taste the wood smoke. The Mac and cheese was soo good I asked perri to sneak me some more and she politely denied me.. All in all we had an amazing time and this is now my new spot whenever I'm in town. I'll try to focus on the two things that really matter: The Food: Black Canyon serves steaks, sandwiches, and other American offerings. Their menu is relatively small, which is a good thing (Cheesecake Factory, are you listening to that?). Their steaks are cooked over a wood-fired grill, which seems to be a growing trend. I had the Filet and Shrimp pasta, which was very good. I'd give it four out of five stars. The filet was tender and cooked properly to order. The Service: For the first time in several weeks, this was a restaurant where I didn't feel like we were getting ignored and forgotten, and they didn't treat us like we were a nuisance. We were a party of six, waiting for a table outside. After 15 minutes of waiting, the hostess informed us that it just started raining outside, so they promptly seated us at an indoor table for six. I was the only one out of five at the table who liked my food. Meatloaf...it was delicious. My poor hubby ordered the ribeye for his bday meal, and said it was the worst ribeye he has ever had at a restaurant. I hardly ever write reviews, mainly due to my experience in the service industry. No one wants to cook on the evening before Thanksgiving, so we made reservations at Black Canyon for a family meal instead. What a great decision! We started with the cornbread and the onion dip - both were fantastic and didn't last long on our table. For my entree, I enjoyed the filet mignon tacos. They were accompanied by beans and rice and the entire plate was generously portioned. A very spicy sauce came on the side, and it was a great compliment to the tacos. Others at the table had the ribeye and loved it, the meatloaf was another favorite and one of us had the southwest egg rolls as an entree that hit the spot. Food is always good here and they always seem to have specials available. Something you don't get with chain restaurants. Great seasoned steaks and good portion sizes on sides. Kids can also find items they like. There are few items that keep bringing me back to them. Cocktail and wine selection is pretty good and they can make to order. Service is top notch, but expect a wait if you don't have reservations on weekends and even some weekdays. We were told 40 minute wait with many empty tables, so perhaps they have too many greeters and not enough wait staff. Ambiance is pretty dark with spotlights on table. Carpet seems damp with odd smell. Occasional gnat seems to be common when we have gone. They likely need to replace their carpeting and do a good cleaning. If they upped their ambience game, they could have a home run. read more
