Food was great, highly recommend the tater tots! Service was quick and responsive, but the drink menu did not have prices on it, which was a bit disappointing. So we requested a specific table, made it clear we did NOT care about how long the wait was. We waited 45 minutes for "our" table then watched a birthday party get sat at the table we just waited for. When I inquired, I was told they "didn't know" there was a larger party ahead of us. The hostesses.....didn't know......there was a table ahead of us. So...... They sat a party of 4 (not everyone was there until 35 minutes after their party was seated) at the table we just waited 40 minutes for and didn't bother to come tell us. The manager admittedly misspoke several times as did the hostess. We come to an agreement then waited ANOTHER 45 minutes before we get sat. So we are at separate tables (which we didn't want) and now we have seperate servers.... Ok great.... One tables server shows up almost immediately the other shows up 15 minutes later. We get a round on the house for the "misunderstanding" with the initial seating. We all order. I order a salad with an extra breadstick. 30 minutes later, Everything comes out except my salad. Of course something else goes wrong. Apparently, my salad was given to another table. So ANOTHER 20 minutes goes by, everyone was about finished with their food, and my salad shows up, chicken very well done and no extra breadstick. I ask for a box, reminding the server about the extra breadstick, because everyone else is done eating and we are all absolutely DONE being there (6:15-9:45). 15 minutes later, there is a problem with our bill. Just ours. Not anyone else's. Just ours. The second table with us has already checked out. No one acknowledges that the entire experience was At this point, wtf else Could go wrong. Seriously. No one acknowledges all of the bullshit that has happened with the lack of service for 20 minutes, the "policies" that only apply to certain people and the continued lack of accountability. We tried to come together as a family to honor my mother and remember her last day on this earth. We tried to be patient and wait for the perfect table, we tried to stay positive and "roll with it" Ultimately, this was the WORST experience I have ever had here and I've been coming here since late 2002. Very disappointed. If the seating were the only issue, I wouldn't even say anything. Mistakes happen AND they made it right. However, the continued "mistakes" and lack of awareness by the staff make the entire experience disheartening. The LEAST you could do, is your job and it seems that was difficult. I appreciate what the manager said and did to make the seating "mistakes" correct. It ended there. I can't review my food because I never got the chance to eat it. read more

I had an amazing late lunch/ early dinner with the young people I know. We talked, ate, drank, enjoyed each other's company. The Deck is a comfortable outside dining experience. The food is good, a solid experience. Our server was cordial and efficient. Our drink glasses stayed full and our table clear, I like that. I had the roasted chicken sandwich which was amazing. The Deck! Beautiful evening to dine outside, gaze over the river, people watch and enjoy some simply tasty food! Expect a wait...no matter what time you go!! The Beer Garden is a nice place to hang out while you wait. Though the seats are all wood and low to the ground. The Philly Steak and cheese was piled high with tender and moist beef. Not a lot of seasoning to the meat. The au jus provided some enhanced beef flavoring. The bun was relatively soft while maintaining a toughness that made it nice to dip without falling apart. I thought the sandwich would come with more peppers and ooze with cheese, but it did not. The Mac & cheese was just kinda there. It didn't do much to ramp up the tastes. The noodles were very soft - almost squishy. There was a mild amount of sauce to the noodles. I would prefer more...enough that you would want to dip the bread in the leftover sauce. The cheddar cheese that laid on top didn't stick to the noddles...it just peaked off. My wife loved her Burrito Americana sandwich. Lots of moist chicken and fresh fillings. Overall there are plenty of simple and diverse things on this menu! The Deck had plenty of help to move people along. Though they didn't push you out. Great place to visit and sit outside. There was a little mix up with our server (it took a while for anyone to come over) but we weren't in any hurry. Do not go here for fear of your life. I followed the confusing sign to the bathroom and when it led nowhere I went through the nearest gate - and was swarmed by one - then about 15 cops. Cuffed and detained while my family tried to explain that I was just going to the bathroom in the restaurant I was eating at. I've been a Halls customer for at least 50 years, since my grandparents took me there as a kid for special occasions. Many of the officers that came out of the woodwork were unhinged and power hungry - several even blatantly lied - and I cannot believe this restaurant would ever invite them onto the property to essentially attack average paying customers. I'm a boring 52 year old writer and have eaten here since I can remember and now I, and all of my family, are "banned for life." The state of the world is beyond recognition now and this is a symptom of all the abuses of power. For your own safety - DO NOT come to any Halls property. read more

The Deck in Fort Wayne, IN is such a fun spot -- whether you're a local or just visiting, it's definitely worth checking out! We came with a big group to celebrate some friends getting married, and even though it was my first time, I was genuinely impressed. Expect it to be busy (and for good reason!) -- the lively atmosphere and riverside setting make it a popular hangout. I didn't get a chance to try the food, but the drink menu was solid! I would give it 5 stars for the service and location along the river, however the fish tacos I had were a maybe 1 to 1.5 star, so an overall 3. Instead of a nice piece of fish in the taco, what I got were over spiced fish crumbles. In other words a small piece of fish that was scrambled into bits and spread thinly into the taco. And kind of greasy as well, so keep some tums on hand. You get 3 tacos on bland flour tortillas. Instead of some kind of sauce you might usually associate with fish tacos. these were served with salsa verde, green salsa, probably out of a can. The grated cheese also was straight out of a gordons food service bag I'm guessing. They were one of the cheaper things on the menu for $12. Really you generally go to the Deck for the outside ambience, but if you like fish tacos, don't bother trying these. read more

The Deck has become a Fort Wayne summertime classic! Tasty food (the salads are all immense AND delicious; the sandwiches and apps are tasty and abundant) and solid, reasonably priced cocktails. We had a bit of trouble finding it but basically it's behind Takoka and the Gas House on E. superior St. We arrived around 1:30 and was told we'd have a 25 minute wait. It's only outside seating but it was mostly cloudy and we had no problem sitting on the waiting benches. They also offer free water for those who wait. We got seated in like 15 to 20 minutes and our waitress came promptly. We put in our drink orders and then ordered the artichoke cheese dip for an appetizer. It was delicious and came with just the right amount of corn tortilla's. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich with tots, which was enormous! He said it was just as delicious as it looked. I ordered the Philly Steak sandwich, which comes with a side of au jus (they don't tell you that on the menu) and it was one of the best I've ever had. Personally, I'd like to see it with a bit more cheese. The roll it is on is light and airy and really compliments this kind of sandwich. I ordered a side of Pit Beans to go with it and they were both unique and yummy! All different kinds of beans, some ground meat and a bit of sweetness. The music in the background is not too loud and this is definitely a family friendly place. Because it's only outside seating it's probably only open a few months a year, but so worth the trip and the wait! They also have an outdoor bar and a beer garden. read more

The service was excellent, the appetizers were right on spot. The cocktails were well made. My mistake was ordering the fried chicken, not what I expected at all. They were not pieces of chicken but large patties, and it appeared as though they had taken different pieces of chicken and put them in the patties. Not good. Not what I expected. Everything else was perfect. The only thing I didn't like were the dogs in the dining area. Sure it was outside but when a dog scratches and then shakes the hair flies. This was my first time at The Deck and everything was awesome! I ordered The Danwhich and added a beef patty to it. The sandwich was delicious! 10/10. Also the tater tots are amazing! Crunchy and light. My girlfriend got the Reuben sandwich. She says it was very tasty and salty! The service was amazing and very quick! We went on a Sunday at 12pm and it was adequately busy. Sorry I found the food lacking. I had a brisket sandwich and the meet was dry. The fries were average like you can get at any fast food place. My husband had the salmon, it was over cooked. He also had the sweet potato soufflé which was too sweet. So all in all very average food for $48.00. I hate going out to eat anymore the food is way over priced and sub par. read more

Apparently the Don Hall restaurants on the river are the place to go in Fort Wayne. There about a half dozen of them that skate a massive parking lot. The Deck is the outdoor-only restaurant overlooking the river. It is such a nice place to spend an evening having some drinks and food. read more

They have a great eat staff and there several comfortable dinning areas. Split level upper deck, along the railing, in the garden area and around the bar with the most outstanding landscaping. Great outdoor dinner. Fun menu with good service. Had to wait 30 minutes on a Saturday at three in the afternoon so plan accordingly.

Average review simply because the servers need training. My wife ordered the seared tuna salad. Loved it!!! Generous portions and very nicely cooked and presented. I ordered the filet mignon which was ok, but when I complained that the asparagus was inedible the waitress disappeared and then came back with the bill and said I wasn't charged EXTRA for it so I should be good. I regret paying $34 for my meal when I saw a beef salad that cost $15 that looked immensely better. I'd go back, especially during nice weather for the great view and the food.
