We went at 5 pm on a weeknight and were the only guests outside of one other person. The service was wonderful. She made great recommendations and helped us decide based on our time constraints. She was attentive and gave us a lot of information about the food, live music, DJ and art for sale on all the walls. We weren't super hungry, so we tried the flatbread - sooo good. I will be back because the whole menu, including the drinks, sound wonderful. They offered zero spirit, GL and other substitutions if needed which is nice. The atmosphere has a moody, darker hang out vibe to it. I loved it and can't wait to bring some friends and family back! She recommended reservations on the weekends, especially on "First Fridays" as that's when they do events and an art crawl on Broadway when the weather is nice. We parked on the street in front of the building so I'm not sure if there is a parking lot. They do have outdoor seating as well in the front of the building. I remember when this location was a food co-op waaaaaaay back in the day. They did a great job transforming it into a relaxing bar and restaurant. Upon entrance, I was dazzled by the Abstract. I honestly wasn't prepared for an automatic sliding door, and anyone who witnessed me coming in could clearly tell. But then you're presented with this shiny chandelier, illuminating this wide chamber, and hovering over a smooth, curved bar. The sides of this huge dining space are lined with dining tables, and walls lined with artwork, making the name quite appropriate. Subtle haloes of light dot the ceiling, and the color palette of the place (besides that big ol' chandelier) is dark, cool, and easy on the eyes. I took a seat at the main bar and was served within minutes. I enjoyed some light pop, rap, and classic rock tunes bumping in the background while I sipped on a delightful Smoked Apple Reserve. Every sip was a punch of sweetness, followed by an air of smokiness, and just a splash of herby aftertaste. It was however, not the kind of drink you could chug, so I sipped slowly throughout my meal. I'll have to come back for the appetizers, as I hear they're the star of the show, but neither the flatbreads nor the traditional bar-fare excited me. Thanks to Yelp though, I learned of the Blueberry and Brie Grilled Cheese, which I'd initially dismissed due to my dislike of Brie - the cheese and her portrayal of Captain Marvel, let's be honest. But I gave it a chance and ~woah~ it was something else. First of all, it's a perfectly cooked grilled cheese, with a flaky, crunchy exterior and addictingly cheesy inside, however I was ~taken aback~ by the flavor. I think I honestly had a Ratatouille moment, where that flavor of berry compote transported me to my childhood, chowing down on blueberry pancakes on Friday morning before school. At the same time, it doesn't dominate the flavor profile - it adds a subtle and satisfying sweetness to the creamy richness of the melted Brie, and it does it oh so well. The plentiful pieces of proscuitto provided some palatable protein, while also being a contrast in flavor and feel to the Berry and Brie. The fries were a little heavy on the straight potato flavor and not so much on seasoning and salt, but some garlic aioli did the trick there. The service was superb and the atmosphere was nothing like I've experienced in this city. My friends and I just decided to order apps to share since we would be having dinner in a few hours. We sat at the large bar which was gorgeous. I loved all the artwork that was hung around the restaurant. We decided to get the fried avocado, deviled eggs and the hush puppies . All three appetizers had beautiful presentation and were delicious. I think my favorite was the hush puppies. I ordered the Espresso Negroni. Never had an espresso drink with Aperol in it. It had a very unique flavor but I liked it. You could really taste the Aperol. Overall, really enjoyed the food, drink and atmosphere. And would recommend to anyone who is visiting Ft. Wayne. We LOVE this restaurant. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is exactly what you want--classy, intimate, and genuinely welcoming. The music fits the space perfectly, and the volume is just right for creating a great vibe while still being able to have an easy conversation (which is rarer than it should be). The food is outstanding. We've tried several appetizers and six different entrées, and every single one was incredibly delicious. The quality is clearly top-tier, and it's obvious the chef is operating at a very high level. The cocktail menu is creative and fun--you'll want to try everything. The ones we've had have all been excellent. Service is just as impressive. The staff knows exactly how to read the table--attentive without being overbearing, polished but still warm. This place really delivers across the board. We've already been back multiple times with different guests, and it's been consistently great. This place checked a lot of boxes: great ambience with the darker lighting and lounge areas, the bar was very cool, food was good and my margarita was delicious, and our service was excellent. They take reservations and I highly suggest you make one if you are going. We didn't and they were booked. It probably is the only negative I can say - even the bar stools were reserved, but a lot of them were still open the whole time we were there. I wish the bar was open seating. The staff was very accommodating though and they let us sit at the back bar area. We went on a Saturday night and they had live music. Another unique experience in Fort Wayne! You will find The Abstract downtown in an old building. The building isn't too hard to find as the signage is good. Though it blends nicely into the community. The is public parking around the corner or you can find a street spot. The patio looks inviting on a warm summers evening. You would have a great street view to enjoy. The exterior and interior retained the original brick facade. The front door is found by walking right through the patio. The second bar, located right by the door is a little confusing. Once inside you will find a beautiful renovation job. The brick and wood are very attractive. The bar is large and prominent and inviting. It's well lit and a buzz with activity. The inside is small so get a reservation. The bar seats about 20 people - where you will be seated without a reservation. The causal and table seating will accommodate about 50 diners. The menu is not very big. Most items are $15-20 per entree. Most are simple in nature without many really unique items. The cocktail menu has a lot of creativity and is hard to resist. The table service is beautiful. The wall hanging art work is abstract in nature but very fun! My wife had the Berry Breeze. Very tasty and fresh. Lovely berry taste ! I had the Smoked Apple Reserve based on the recommendation. Apparently the smoke machine was down. However the South Bend made Cinnamon Whiskey was delicious! We started with the onion pedals. The pedal had a decent slice of onion in the thick breading. The breading seemed over cooked as it was dark, oily and very crunchy. While it didn't have an attractive appearance...it had a nice crunch while a moist onion pudge and a slightly spicy seasoning. The deviled egg flight was unique but not really very creative. There were three flavors of stuffing. One was sprinkled with smoked paprika - which isn't very gourmet. Another was sprinkled with bagel seasoning. I found these add-ons to be hard, very salty and not very appetizing. The list was a bit more creative with bacon, chive and cheese sprinkles. This was okay but not very gourmetish. My wife and went with the flatbreads. She had the margarita while I had the Italian sausage. The bread was moderately thick and cooked to a slight crisp. The bread looks like it was over cooked due to black marks - which were okay. The pizza sauce was a bit sweet and had a tomato zing. I liked the taste of the Italian sausage however I wished there was more sausage on the flatbread. Overall we had a good dinning experience. The facility is beautifully remodeled. The staff was joyful and glad we were there. The cocktails and food fit together to make this evening very enjoyable! read more

Came here Saturday for our date night and sat at the beautiful bar! The decor and local artists painting were neat to see throughout the place. My husband said he felt so "hip" being in there. I had the margarita. It was good. A bit strong but I didn't complain! Bartenders and hostess was very nice. Great service. Hubby ordered bbq burger. I got the loaded ceasar. Not a crumb left on my hubbys plate! The salad looked so nice. It just had too much dressing. I still was able to eat a decent amount. Let me start off by saying that this place is gorgeous inside! It's dark and plush, giving a speakeasy vibe. The cocktail options were fun, but I settled on a NA option that I was big a fan of. As for the food, it was mediocre. The cheeseburger looked plain and dry, the buffalo chicken flatbread was void of color and looked like it needed to cook for 10 more minutes, and the side of veggies was basically just a cup of salt. The best things at the table were the Brie grilled cheese and the chicken sandwich. Service could've been better as well - our waitress, in the off chance we saw her, seemed like she'd rather be anywhere but there. Oh my goodness. We stopped just to see and I'm so glad we did. We had the deviled egg flight and hummus. Both very good. But the grilled cheese and veggies were absolutely phenomenal. We also had the peach salad with honey dressing. Perfect. I was too full for dessert but we will be back. Bree was our server and braved the chilly air to let us sit on the patio. The Abstract has a super cool vibe. We sat on the front patio which was really loud with all the traffic. The inside would have been a better seating choice. The food and drinks were pretty darn good. The only exception was an average smash burger. Not much flavor or substance to it. The blueberry and Brie grilled cheese was top notch. Oh Abstract, you are exactly that! From the unaccommodating staff and owner to the ridiculous amount of paintings for sale on your walls. First off, our round of drinks were not as they should have been. Three different people from our table reported the issue and were met with "idk what is wrong with them, because I made them right." The next person that mentioned something was met with another unaccommodating response from the server/bartender herself, stating, "no we can't take them off the bill or take them back." The third person that brought it up, the bartender finally said I'll bring it up to my manager. I guess after asking three times the result was a new round. Next, we came in for the first time during Savor! You know, the time of year where establishments should probably be more hospitable than not to garner repeat business. The regular menu items come with a side but that little statement is missing from their savor menu. We all assumed that the side was still included until the mains came to the table. At which point we all asked where are the fries? We brought this to the attention of management (owner) who refused to just put us back on regular menu pricing to forgo a dessert and opt for the side instead. That suggestion was met with, no, but I can get you some fries for $5. After much deliberation, some choice words explaining our experience thus far, I was told that he will prepare my tab and I could get out. This owner is oblivious and is certainly not up to the task of operating an establish if you can't understand that you would have 6 happy first time customers if you would have just fried up a buck worth of potatoes. All in all, service is dismal, lack of experience and hospitality. The food is mediocre with an aioli coming out looking like jam, the flight of devil eggs is nothing to write home about. The farmhouse burger is a pile of ingredients and unrefined just for an excuse to charge $20 bucks for a burger. The chicken sandwhich....just go to your fave quick serve place to get your fix. Fried avocado, is literally fried avocado with some pickled onion and that jam like aioli. If I still have you at this point, just let this be the next restaurant down town to die. It was so outstanding I sent my compliments to the chef. She was kind enough to come out and say hello.
