After a bit of a Google search, I settled on SOLBIRD Kitchen & Tap at 1824 W. Dupont Rd. I arrived right at 4:00 p.m. and initially had the restaurant to myself, which always makes me a little nervous. My concerns quickly disappeared, though, as others began filtering in. My waiter, Derek, was amazing. He was friendly and outgoing and immediately made me feel welcomed. His enthusiasm for the food was evident as he explained the menu and answered my questions. I started with a blueberry-pineapple margarita, a combination I don't think I've ever had before. It had a nice tartness that really brought out both flavors, although it is definitely on the sweeter side. While I waited, Derek brought me a sample of their homemade tortilla chips with house seasoning. The chips were fresh and crisp, but the seasoning was what really got my attention. I swear I detected a hint of mango that made me feel as though I should be sitting on a Caribbean beach instead of along Dupont Road. I ordered the Texican and Korean Beef tacos. The Texican had a wonderful Tex-Mex flavor with just enough heat without leaving one scalded. The Korean Beef was phenomenal, with marinated beef, quick kimchi, cilantro and green onion on a soft homemade corn tortilla. I'm sure the look of satisfaction was apparent to everyone seated near me. I honestly couldn't tell you which taco I enjoyed more. The restaurant was bright, fresh, clean and inviting. Between the terrific food and Derek's outstanding service, I'm very glad my Google search led me to SOLBIRD. If you enjoy getting away from the familiar chains and trying someplace a little different, give them a try. I know I'll be back.

The batter was very thin, flakey and a touch oily. It has a nice seasoning to go along with the chipotle sauce. Definitely worth a try if you like onion rings. The crust is a hand tossed style and baked to a soft crispy crust. It has a slightly sweet flavor with a mild flour taste. The sauce was not very prominent to the flavor - mild tomato sauce taste. The sauce was hidden by the pile of fresh toppings. There was a nice amount of delicious mozzarella cheese to hold the toppings together and give it a moist pizza flavor. Cold Pizza Test - the pizza was still soft and moist 24 hours later. It seems like the ingredients "marinated" and enhance the Italian flavors. The mozzarella cheese flavors tended to "pop" more. The rice was flavorful but the beans were very salty. There are many vegetarian options here, more than most Mexican restaurants. The patio is large and beautiful. There were many people taking advantage of this warm and sunny early spring afternoon dining on the patio. The patio features approximately 20 tables, including several larger tables. Although I took my order to go this time I will plan to return with a group of friends to enjoy dining on the patio.
