Delicious food, fun funky atmosphere and great local beer on tap. Awesome service, definitely recommended!

Solbird is a real treat! The atmosphere is casual, the service always welcoming and efficient. The menu is uniquely varied, from Guacamole, Shrimp Ceviche, Korean Beef sliders (also work as a meal), and a wonderful Mexican Caesar Salad (a fav of ours) as starters; to 4 different quesadillas, 9 different tacos, 6 different burritos, 2 rice bowls, and 4 different papas fritas, aka fries with toppings. We've never had anything we didn't love! This most recent visit, we started with the Mexican Caesar and Chips with guacamole. Yum! Hubby had the Saturdays Night Special Burrito made with pork carnitas, Arroz verde, queso, avocado crema and tomatillo salsa on a grilled flour tortilla. Excellent! He could not finish it because it was so substantial... I usually go for tacos, and the Texican is my absolute go-to! SO flavorful! Also had the pork carnitas taco, neither of which could I finish. Love that all tacos can be wrapped in lettuce instead of tortillas if one prefers! Totally forgot pics until we packaged our leftovers (which hubby happily enjoyed the next day), so that's the only pic you get, unfortunately! Oh, MAN, do I wish there was a restaurant like Solbird Kitchen & Tap closer to home. On a recent visit to Fort Wayne my wife and I were trying to figure out where to have dinner. Our son-in-law asked "Have you tried Solbird? They have amazing tacos!". Wellll...that's all that took! The decor at Solbird is nicely done. It's not bright and flashy. It's not overdone. It's not obnoxious. There's enough to give the place some ambiance without being overwhelming. It's dignified and suits the establishment. Solbird has a combination tables: bar seating, high tops, and regular height table. We're always high top sitters. Oh, and can we talk about these chairs? At least the tall chairs? Those things are HEAVY! If I'd have known they were that heavy I'd have eaten Cheerios® for breakfast. Our server was a very delightful young lady named Soleil (yes, like the actress Soleil Moon Frye). She was amazingly fun and just....cool. I'm not going to lie. My son-in-law mentioned the Mexican Poutine and that's all it took to get me in the door. My wifey was interested in the Korean tacos. Our food was delivered hot -- VERY hot -- and accurate, and I couldn't get the Mexican Poutine in my belly! It was 100% delicious in a way that I did not see coming, and I'm guessing that was the Chorizo. It made it AWESOME. The staff (all women as far as we saw) were all friendly, helpful, and always busy cleaning and stocking. The overhead music was 80s and 90s and was at a perfect level and not overwhelmingly loud. It gave the restaurant an upbeat, fun vibe. There's a sign on the door that says that no one under 21 is allowed to enter. I don't if that's an absolute, or that you can't eat here if you have kids under 21. No matter, I don't object to a restaurant having a rule like that. It's not an altogether bad thing to have adults-only establishments. Yea, if there was a Solbird close to home I'd be there every night...which makes it a good thing that it's about 4 hours away. :) read more

The restaurant is cute wasn't crowded at all when I came in for lunch. Sat at the bar and the server came very quick to bring water and a menu. Tried the Korean beef tacos and ancho fries. Everything was amazing but I just didn't personally care for the dipping sauce for the fries. Was too sweet? Would definitely eat here again. read more

Stopped by for chips and guac. I thought both were very good. The chips are thick and seasoned. The guac was fresh and tasty. We've been multiple times and I like that it is a scratch kitchen. My husband enjoys the death by burrito. The service was pretty good. The only thing I would suggest is you request were you sit if there is space, because the table get close to other groups. read more

I've been called a lot of things in my life, but trendy is not one of them. I supposed that may be why I give this place only two stars. We are like oil and water. We don't mix. This place is more of a bar than a restaurant. They have a long bench seat with tables, so you're sitting close to other diners. Might as well call them family. There are a few small tables and chairs. If you sit near the front, you are subjected to whatever weather might be outside. The worst is the blast of cold air during the winter. If you sit toward the back, you get the view of the kitchen along with the noise and also too close to the bathrooms. Not while I'm trying to eat. Thanks. If you're used to free basket of chips and salsa, look somewhere else. That will be $8 here. If you're into how your food is plated, this might be for you. Me, I'm into eating. The good was excellent,but the waiter/bar tender was very, very rude. Myself and 3 sisters, all in our 70's were treated as if our questions were the most bothersome questions he's ever had to answer. We ditched our reservation across town and showed up with 40 minutes before closing Saturday night and I'm glad we did, because this place is our new "go-to" - fantastic staff, great food and drinks. It's a whole vibe, and I'm here for it. read more

Not this visit but normally get the ceviche which is the best in Ft Wayne! Went for savor Fort Wayne and it was a great deal. We loved talking to JoJo I think was his name? He was great. The portions are large and ingredients so fresh! Sangria is great price and delicious. Churro waffle is a must. Often get tacos when we go but it was good to change it up. Small restaurant so probably good to make reservations. Sit in the back in the winter to avoid the cold from the door opening. read more

It's a small place but the food is very good. So far we have tried the tacos and the bowls. Both of them were delicious, not greasy, fresh and with flavor. Service is good, they have several options for beers, they have an outdoor seating area so you can enjoy the nice weather when available . I like this place, but I don't LOVE it. Food is good and Taco Tuesdays are pretty reasonable. I like that it's locally owned and the recipes are interesting and innovative. What problems I have experienced are not overwhelmingly horrible, but they could improve and otherwise great establishment. Problems: Small, close seating. It gets pretty loud when it's full. The tall chairs are not comfortable at all, but the wall-attached booths are. Service is _odd_ I guess? It never feels like things are going smoothly. The music, again, is a little annoying. It's too loud most of the time, and the selections don't really fit. Mostly songs you wish you could have forgotten when they stopped being played on the radio. Cocktails are expensive. Greatness: The food! Great flavors! I wish there were more of the chips! Locality. It's close by, and easy to get to. I want this place to do well. Just a few changes could really help! read more

You had me at inspired by Roy Choi. Just kidding, but not really. I first came across the Sol Kitchen Food Truck at the YLNI's Farmers' Market. I lived in San Diego for 5 years prior to moving to Fort Wayne. Since then I've been on the search for good tacos. After having tried a couple tacos from the food truck, I visited Solbird. This place is amazing. Good food, good local beer, and good vibes. My favorite tacos include the chicken tinga, pork carnitas, and Korean beef. On my most recent visit Jerry, the owner, was having a photo shoot to capture life during the pandemic. I chatted with Jerry about his inspiration - Roy Choi - and told him how much I loved his tacos. Solbird definitely has the best tacos in Fort Wayne. After photos were taken of el Californio burrito (it has french fries!) Jerry gave it to me. I really appreciate his passion for his business and bring people together through food. He also told me he designed the bar to be a place for people to meet. Even with social distancing, Solbird is still a place to socialize and meet new friends. read more

Great location, but I was not expecting this place to be so tiny inside! Very small limited menu. Was shocked that they didn't have Mexican beer or regular beer on the menu, just IPA draft beer. My 3 little tacos with mediocre meat alone was $18.00. The thai shrimp burrito was overpowered and saugy from too much peanut sauce. The black mole fries were good, but they should have put fries on one side & meat on the other side because the fries got saugy. Probably won't go back but the staff were super friendly. read more

Sol Bird is one of the best restaurants in Fort Wayne! Brunch is our favorite. I always order the back of the house tacos at brunch. I could eat two servings they are so good. My husband enjoys the death by brunch burrito. They have a ton of fun drinks and we enjoy the mimosa flight. We also come sometimes for dinner and have enjoyed everything we have ordered. The staff is fun and friendly. The space is small and compact, so there is often a wait and it is not ideal for those with mobility issues. We did just hear that they are no longer going to be doing brunch which is extremely sad. read more

Tasted like it had vodka, even though they don't serve hard alcohol. I dont know how they work their magic with wine. Delicious! If you are looking for a traditional mexican restaurant this is not it, but they do bring their heritage into the dishes. It's also nice because no kids!!! Amazing! I've been calling this style of "New Age Mexican". I ordered the shrimp, pesto and goats cheese quesadilla. It was absolutely AMAZING! Nothing at all what I expected and the more I ate the more it just made sense. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, there was just enough goats cheese and other cheese blended together, and the pesto was no just slopped in it but just enough to tie the dish together. Absolutely wonderful experience. Service was wonderful too. Only weird thing was I heard mention of another server coming out to help soon and that person never made an appearance. read more

Our server, Liz, showed the perfect amount of attentiveness, making sure we had what we needed but not disruptive to our meal and conversation. We had the carne asada burrito and the chicken rice bowl. Both were very fresh and delicious! We also had the pineapple and the caramel apple mimosas - again, both delicious and refreshing! So I've been here twice now and I just love the fun menu and atmosphere. Heck, they have a cool painting of Jim Morrison on the wall. :) 21 and up. They don't have a liquor license, but they wine, make margaritas with wine, mimosas, and specialty brews. Their menu has delicious vegan options (just ask your server, they know which ones to point you to.) The only drawback is that the high ceilings and concrete floors cause the sound to bounce around and it's a little bit hard to hear the other person, but not too bad. Prices are fair. Thought we try it out for lunch and was not disappointed. Smelled so good when we came in that I couldn't wait to dig in or I would have taken pictures. The service by Oliver was attentive, informative and helpful. At least a dozen brewski's available, Nancy sampled two and settled on Bills Bitter. And she loved it no "bitter beer face" here thank you very much . I got the Korean Pork Sliders while Nancy got the Chicken & Black quesadilla.
