Norman Rockwell would've loved this place

We drove right past this place...it's worth turning around for!! It looks like it's part of an auto service station. Very homey and friendly. Everybody in the place seemed to know each other (except us, of course--not many New Yorkers in this place). Great, basic food at phenomenal prices. Cup of homemade soup for 1.95? Yes please! Seven varieties every day. Add corn bread for 50¢. (That's so rare I had to Google where to find the ¢ icon!) Homemade pie or apple dumpling for 2.95. Burgers, chicken, grilled cheese, chili, meatloaf, salad, breakfast standards, etc. Not romantic, not upscale, not hip...just a place where everybody knows your name, circa 1964.

    Breakfast served all day!!

Came here on a groupon and was excited to see the old Bar stools at the counter. We knew we'd sit there! The menu is a good size with lots of daily menu choices, pie choices and whatever they may have on hand that day. It was fun to look over. The food is prepared as ordered and that is awesome. I had the clam chowder and it was thick and had plenty of clams cut some were rubbery and had to be spit out. The kids meals are pretty small so if you have older kids I'd suggest ordering off the regular menu. The cornbread muffins were good and warm and tasty with butter melted into them. The home cooked food was great and I'd def go back. One thing I didn't like is our clothes smelling like grease when we left but that just means that you're in a great spot to it!! Def go and have a meal, enjoy friendly knowledgeable staff and great prices. It'll be one of your favorite palaces to eat!!

My husband got the Joanna's Skillet with over easy eggs and a side of pancakes, while I got the same thing but scrambled eggs. I think it might be better with over easy eggs, just because it gives you a little sauce to coat your skillet in. I don't know how they get their skillets to be so tasty, but it's fantastic and a must get when you're here. Pancakes are nice and fluffy, good amount of butter, and plenty of syrup. I think the price is around $15, but the menu is extensive, and way too much to post pictures. I do want to try the chorizo skillet and (maybe if I feel wild one day) the crepes. But it's really, really hard to not get the skillet. The food is always good here. Service was fantastic and always friendly. The place was cutely decorated with Christmas decorations. For the price, this is the best spot for breakfast/lunch.

Boy, were we impressed! The service was so quick & friendly that I even got excited about being there. The restaurant is well-lit, unlike other local diners, which was nice. Our server remembered the sugar-free syrup I ordered, which went a long way for me. My eggs were so fluffy and the bacon was plentiful & substantial. I haven't had such good bacon & eggs in a long time. My waffle was standard, but still worth the trip. Our server even thought to bring butter without me asking, also delightful. My fiancé LOVED the country skillet. He prefers filling meals & he only got through half of the dish! That's saying a lot because he got a lot of food, delivering real value! Our server was friendly & did an excellent job with taking care of us. We cannot wait to come back to Joanna's for breakfast or brunch again!

As someone who has managed restaurants for most of my life I tend to notice things some don't. Even on a snowy day the parking lot was clean. No litter. No trash in the bushes. We were created by a friendly well dressed young man when we entered. We were shown to our table and he chatted with us genuinely while he was seating us. Our server, Kim, showed up soon after. She immediately got us our drinks. Jill got hot tea and as a bonus Kim brought the coffee cup full of hot water and a hot tea pot. That way, once her cup was done steeping, she could put the tea bag in the pot to steep. I asked for some help between two dishes and she gave great advice. She is genuinely the warmest and nicest server I've ever had. They should clone her. The food arrived very quickly for how busy the restaurant was. I can't imagine what their food cost is, because the portions are ginormous. The food was delicious. Kim continued to interact and charm us throughout the meal without being intrusive. At some point a young man came out of the back who I assume was the owner. He was interacting with the guests, running silverware to the front, chatting up the regulars and shaking hands and sincerely thanking people for coming in. At one point he repositioned a table that had been moved when the guests got up. He noticed it wasnt perfectly level and immediately addressed that issue to correct it. 13 out of 10. Highly recommend!!!

Lucky Moose (DuPont & Coldwater Roads) - big menu, seeming less flavors that I would expect…read more I have visited the Lucky Moose three times in the last 5 months. I have not posted as I have been collectively evaluating their products. The Lucky Moose is located in a strip mall on the south side of DuPont road across from Kroger. Most times there is plenty of lot parking. Though this can be a challenge on busy dine out nights when Ziano's, Cebolla 's and the Moose are busy. At times Lucky's has had a good 30 minute wait. I think this is less likely since Union Social opened up the street. The Moose has a very large and diverse menu. There is something for everyone. The service always seems to be friendly. The restaurant is fairly large with a smaller bar area. I personally find the booths, that seat four, to be somewhat small. This can be uncomfortable if you have have four adult diners. On this visit we started with the fried veggie basket. This, like other appetizers I've ordered here recently, seem to come out deeply fried and tough in texture. The inside veggies were soft and fresh. The pieces weren't very big. The breading was thick and slightly oily to taste. Overall, you don't get much flavor to go along with the thick, hard and a bit oily breading. My wife had the fish tacos. She said they tasted fresh. No fishy taste. She noted that the tacos lacked seasoning that would help distinguish this Lucky Moose product. This characterization is somewhat typical of other entrees I had here. The Lucky Moose has a good variety of selections that can be made into a pizza or flat bread (see attached picture). This option was about $16. The menu says it takes about 29 1/2 minutes to make. The waitress said to plan on 40 minutes - just be aware, which was okay with me! This pizza is a "deeper" dish pizza. I'm not sure I would call it true deep dish as that implies a style with certain expectations. This was really just a really thick pizza served in a deep dish style pan. The crust tasted like a biscuit. I'm not sure if that is unique to this more southern BBQ style dish or if all pizzas have this type of biscuit crust. I was really expecting a more traditional pizza style dough taste. The worst part of the crust was that it came out REALLY hard when eaten hot and fresh. This was so hard that I had toncutbitbwith a knife. This was very different as left overs which I will explain later. The sauce was a very mild BBQ flavor. It had a moderate amount of sweetness and very little spiciness. Not bad. The down side here is that the sauce dominated the chicken and cheese taste when served fresh and really hot - but not that way as left overs. The hot BBQ sauce was so prevalent that I couldn't detect any smoked chicken flavors. The mozzarella cheese flavors got buried in the hot temperature BBQ sauce also. Overall, I was not pleased with my dinning selection. However, this somewhat changed when it became leftovers. Cold Pizza Test - I normally save some pizza to eat for breakfast. My preference is to eat it without being reheated. However, this is a deeper dish product. So I microwaved the pizza, that had been refrigerated for about 32 hours, for 45 seconds. During this time the BBQ sauce "soaked" into the crust and really softened it up. The sauce took a back seat to the chicken and cheese. I could now detect a nice Smokey flavor in the moist chicken. The mozzarella now thickened and provided that nice bed of cheese that you'd expect on a pizza. The 45 second reheated product was very tasty. A softer crust and mild BBQ flavors that enhanced the chicken and cheese. I believe the dramatic difference was due to the overly hot temperature by which the original pizza was cooked. Just my opinion. You visit and make your decision.

We could have done this at fast food, received better quality food and drinks, for half the price. I don't know why anyone goes here. So first, the service was fine, but it goes downhill after ordering. I asked if they had a milkshake menu, but apparently corporate decided to get rid of the milkshake menu and make all the waiters recite the menu over and over again. How stupid is that? Reese's, Salted Honey Cinnamon, Strawberry - $7 - The best one was strawberry, and that's not saying much. Every milkshake was so watery that we were drinking flavored milk more than ice cream. The waitress even got my milkshake on my shoes. She apologizes about how watery it is, but that's it. She even says she'll bring over more napkins (cause it was dripping all down our cups too), but she forgot to come back with the napkins a few times, so it took a long time to get more napkins. At least they got rid of paper straws, cause at one point a few years ago, you couldn't even suck up the milkshake through the paper straws cause the paper straws disintegrated. Back then, I asked for a spoon, and they said they didn't have any. Now, back to today, the straws are plastic again, but I couldn't even suck up at Reese's cups cause they don't fit through the straw. At least this time I had a fork. What a disaster. Don't get milkshakes here. 0/5 stars. "Tavern" Style Pizza Hot Honey - $17.50 - The flavor was good, but it was a soft crust pizza, definitely not tavern style at all. 3/5 stars. All of the burgers are small, like Culver's small, and you're paying 3x the price. The fries are soggy and needed salt. Train Wreck Burger - $18 - This was mine, and it was just ok, but probably better than the other two. 3/5 stars. Mushroom Swiss Burger - $16 - This one the meat tasted worse than mine. I don't know why there's different ground beef patties? 1/5 stars. Stacked Patty Melt - $16.50 - Husband got this one, and he didn't like it. He said the bread tasted stale. 1/5 stars. Just don't go here. You wanna spend about $100 for 3 people to eat? What a waste of money. Small portions, overpriced, terrible quality. Oh, and some tables are sticky, even after the hostess cleans them.
