I've been to Bagger Dave's multiple times. I've never been a big fan. They fit a certain food fare that isn't Italian or Chinese in this area. They have a large facility and provide a large menu of decent food and at a value price. I've never been all that impressed by the service here. Tonight was over the top. I have NEVER walked out of a restaurant until tonight. The hostess seated us at a table one the MIDDLE of the dining room. There were lots of tables that surrounded us with active waitresses. We sat for 10 minutes with no one stopping to get us going. We flagged down a waitress and asked her to send a waitress our way. Five minutes later....no waitress. We then stopped the hostess and asked for a waitress. She went back to the waitress team that was just standing talking to each other outside the kitchen. You could tell she said something as they all looked our direction. After 5 more minutes of not a single waitress stepping up to serve us...we walked out. I'm not sure I will ever come back!

Bagger Dave's has changed their menu loads of times since my last review. It seems they now have pizza. I've not tried it because the whole reason to go to Bagger Dave's is the burgers. Fries are a close second, but the burgers are what shine here. Gone are the Build Your Own papers and pencils (you can still order a build your own burger but it's all verbal). I admit I go for the Bacon Barbecue Burger every time. Newly allowed to eat gluten, I can't express how good the grilled brioche bun is. Heaven. The portion of fries that comes with the burgers has decreased, which is a little sad. On this most recent visit, there were highs and not-so-highs. We got seated immediately (around 5:30 on a Friday), which is much better than the 1.5-2 hour wait we would have faced down the street closer to Lima Road. The service was prompt and the food was delicious. I ordered an Aperol Spritz which was on the weak side and rather small for $10. My daughter got the Tavern Margarita that tasted mostly like mixer. $5.55 was an appropriate price I guess. Also I ordered a side of Mayo which never arrived. Oh well. I usually dip my fries in it, but the Santa Fe Chipotle was so excellent I didn't need it. Anyway. Will I go back? Definitely! But I will skip the cocktails and focus on the real reason I'm there.

Cheese crisp bacon burger with fries for take out

We are staying in a hotel nearby and got Bagger Dave's takeout for dinner. I'm going to preface this by saying, I know take out is not the ideal presentation and the food could be a bit better sitting in the restaurant. That being said, my family of four found our dinner to be not bad, but not amazing. We had a great American cheeseburger, pretty standard cheeseburger. Crispy cheese bacon burger, good concept, I bet it is better at the restaurant when the cheese crisp is super fresh. Both burgers needed a bit more seasoning. Fish and chips was good. Blue cheese burger was good. Turkey black bean chili was not bad but was lacking that flavor melding that comes from cooking all day. The fries were good but really needed salt. The homemade ranch was amazing. Take out service was quick and well done. Online ordering was easy.

Great American burger. 9.95 on tuesdays!

Stopped in for the 9.95 great American burger on Tuesdays. Excellent burger, service, atmosphere. An enjoyable lunch for a Tuesday. I tried the home made Cole slaw. It was a burger for lunch at a burger joint. Not bad but nothing special. I personally would not get ithe slaw again.

Bagger Dave's ads kept popping up on social media, and since it had been a very long time since we had gone and it looked as tho they had some new burgers, we opted to go there for lunch. We were the second table to be seated after opening, so the place was pretty empty. The music wasn't loud at all, but as we sat there, we noticed that the employees were certainly having a great time talking to each other. Loudly. Then the music continued to get louder until it was hard to communicate at times. Our server came and took our drink orders. We perused the menu for the new burgers we saw, but the menu seemed the same to us. For a restaurant who has "burgers" as their main draw, 8 variations (two of which have the same ingredients save for the cheese being different) seems limited to me. I admit I'm a burger snob, so I love to see a lot of options on the menu. So... I went with the one I have had each time we've visited. The BBQ Bacon Burger. Spouse did the same. We substituted onion rings for the fries (upcharge:$2.95), instead of having onion rings for the appetizer: $6.95. Our server left, then came back and asked if we wanted the onion rings brought out before the burger since it is considered an appetizer... We were a little confused. We told her we ordered them as a side, but she insisted that they were still considered an appetizer even tho we ordered them as a side. We asked if they were brought out as an appetizer, would we be getting fries with the burger? She said no. The onion rings are the side. Shaking our heads to ourselves, we told her we wanted them with the burger. The server was kind, but I do think some extra training might help her. We ordered the burgers medium and substituted chipotle bbq for the regular bbq that normally comes on the burger. Our meals came, and the onion rings were very tasty. I wouldn't put them in the same league as Red Robin, but they were good. Our burgers were cooked to order and also had a lot of taste... except... where was the bbq sauce?? Not a hint of bbq sauce anywhere. Was a bit disappointing. Overall, the meal was pretty good, but it will be a long while before we go back.

I've had a chance to visit 2x over the course of 10days. I can honestly say they have one of the best burgers I've ever had. It's tender, meaty, juicy, and full of flavor. The burger is so big, it's almost shareable, but I don't do that. It comes packed with lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo( yuck- I ask that if be left off), ketchup, and mustard. The vegetables are crisp and clean, no ugly spots, and add a touch of flare to the burger. I was pleased both times. The fries are ok, not the best, but ok. The atmosphere is clean and almost quaint. Due to Covid19, they appear to have social distance guidelines for tables arranged. They have a friendly and efficient staff. Well worth a try.

Meh! 2.5 stars out of 5...ans I'm only being kind because of the delicious burger. Otherwise...1 and done. Service was ok, but Our server was also the bartender and therefore had double duty and not able to provide us with the attention that we would have gotten with a dedicated server. .. however she did prevail and provide adequate service...but nothing special. The atmosphere in the place is blah! Not exciting or visually exciting, just a large dead space decorated with old time pictures and painted dark brown; Boring and depressing! Then there was the request for for fresh forks and spoons as we began to eat our burgers. In lieu of actual silverware, which we had when we began our guests. Anything less than that indicates that management is not capable of running the operation. -

The salmon was jerk, salmon, and the whole thing was a delicious repast. We had a appetizer of a couple bowls of their homemade chips. Unlike many places that don't salt them. These were salted just the right amount not too salty and I can't say anything bad about it. Our server was terrific and his name was Alex and the place is shaping up. I guess they just took it over from someplace else. The walls are a little bit bare needs a little more decoration and the ceiling is bare, but the chairs are very comfortable so it's an easy five star.

Charlie's is also good for larger groups...and kids! Charlie's place is a large facility with lots of seating. The hosts are friendly. Making an on line reservation is easy. They always seem to have plenty of staff to serve and make you feel comfortable. Kudos to the team for developing a more attractive and welcoming lobby area! Sunday afternoon is brunch. They have a different menu than a normal lunch or dinner menu. Those menus are usually large and full of great choices. The brunch menu is much narrower and dominated by breakfast items. There are some non breakfast items...but not many. My wife had the breakfast tacos. She really liked the egg and bacon mixture. The sour cream and salsa sauces blended the tastes nicely. The Cobb salad was very fresh and tasty. There were lots of side ingredients such as egg, avocado, bacon, blue cheese, tomato and cucumber. The grilled chicken was plentiful and moist. Just enough grilled and seasoned taste to blend right in with the ingredients. The home made honey mustard dressing was consistent with what you would expect from honey mustard.

Lucky Moose (DuPont & Coldwater Roads) - big menu, seeming less flavors that I would expect…read more I have visited the Lucky Moose three times in the last 5 months. I have not posted as I have been collectively evaluating their products. The Lucky Moose is located in a strip mall on the south side of DuPont road across from Kroger. Most times there is plenty of lot parking. Though this can be a challenge on busy dine out nights when Ziano's, Cebolla 's and the Moose are busy. At times Lucky's has had a good 30 minute wait. I think this is less likely since Union Social opened up the street. The Moose has a very large and diverse menu. There is something for everyone. The service always seems to be friendly. The restaurant is fairly large with a smaller bar area. I personally find the booths, that seat four, to be somewhat small. This can be uncomfortable if you have have four adult diners. On this visit we started with the fried veggie basket. This, like other appetizers I've ordered here recently, seem to come out deeply fried and tough in texture. The inside veggies were soft and fresh. The pieces weren't very big. The breading was thick and slightly oily to taste. Overall, you don't get much flavor to go along with the thick, hard and a bit oily breading. My wife had the fish tacos. She said they tasted fresh. No fishy taste. She noted that the tacos lacked seasoning that would help distinguish this Lucky Moose product. This characterization is somewhat typical of other entrees I had here. The Lucky Moose has a good variety of selections that can be made into a pizza or flat bread (see attached picture). This option was about $16. The menu says it takes about 29 1/2 minutes to make. The waitress said to plan on 40 minutes - just be aware, which was okay with me! This pizza is a "deeper" dish pizza. I'm not sure I would call it true deep dish as that implies a style with certain expectations. This was really just a really thick pizza served in a deep dish style pan. The crust tasted like a biscuit. I'm not sure if that is unique to this more southern BBQ style dish or if all pizzas have this type of biscuit crust. I was really expecting a more traditional pizza style dough taste. The worst part of the crust was that it came out REALLY hard when eaten hot and fresh. This was so hard that I had toncutbitbwith a knife. This was very different as left overs which I will explain later. The sauce was a very mild BBQ flavor. It had a moderate amount of sweetness and very little spiciness. Not bad. The down side here is that the sauce dominated the chicken and cheese taste when served fresh and really hot - but not that way as left overs. The hot BBQ sauce was so prevalent that I couldn't detect any smoked chicken flavors. The mozzarella cheese flavors got buried in the hot temperature BBQ sauce also. Overall, I was not pleased with my dinning selection. However, this somewhat changed when it became leftovers. Cold Pizza Test - I normally save some pizza to eat for breakfast. My preference is to eat it without being reheated. However, this is a deeper dish product. So I microwaved the pizza, that had been refrigerated for about 32 hours, for 45 seconds. During this time the BBQ sauce "soaked" into the crust and really softened it up. The sauce took a back seat to the chicken and cheese. I could now detect a nice Smokey flavor in the moist chicken. The mozzarella now thickened and provided that nice bed of cheese that you'd expect on a pizza. The 45 second reheated product was very tasty. A softer crust and mild BBQ flavors that enhanced the chicken and cheese. I believe the dramatic difference was due to the overly hot temperature by which the original pizza was cooked. Just my opinion. You visit and make your decision.

The team here is very friendly and professional. They never disappoint. Making reservations on line is easy. I would definitely recommend reservations! On this night we were seated in the indoor-outdoor dining area. This area is more open, well lit and less intimate than the man dinning area. There were two large groups (12 and eight) seated in this area - nice for larger gatherings. You have a nice view of the lit outdoor fire place. BC has a very large menu. There is something for everyone. Overall BC is rather pricey but not as expensive as some. We started with our favorite corn bread appetizer. It's a simple 2-3 person dish. The bread is more like a southern cake than a traditional corn bread. The inside is soft, sweet and moist. The whipped butter is fluffy, smooth and makes a delicious accent to the corn bread. My wife ordered the southwest grilled chicken salad. She said the chicken was perfectly grilled and moist. The lettuce and fixings were very fresh. The dressing was very light and had a hidden cayenne pepper kick. The salad seemed to grow as you got to the bottom of the bowl - lol. My house salad was also very fresh. Plenty of side items to accent the lettuce. The buttermilk ranch dressing is somewhat unique. It has a smooth and light buttermilk texture without a strong buttermilk flavor. There are hints of ranch dressing flavors. Nicely done! I ordered the BC meatloaf. This was a mountain of deliciously blended types of meats, onions, peppers & spices. You could pick up the short rib, brisket, bacon and ground chuck flavors. The collection was moist, nicely spiced & seasoned and delicious! There was plenty of fresh and perfectly steamed broccoli - nice crisp. The Mac & cheese side was done to perfection! Nicely cooked noodles along with a very smooth & creamy white cheese sauce. It was so delicious that I had to scrap the sauce from the bottom of the dish. Overall, Black Canyon is an outstanding place to dine. You always feel special whether it's a special occasion or just dinner out. Time in and time out...food & service are outstanding!!

Decent BBQ joint on North end of town…read more.. Dropped by Lucille's for the first time on Friday for a work lunch with the crew... Been meaning/wanting to try for a while, but have never got around to it. Ok experience, but there's some areas of attention needed. Pros: Friendly/quick service, outstanding brisket, excellent bbq sauces (I particularly liked the vinegar and spicy sauces), and large portions. Cons: Over-priced, average at best sides, extremely smoky in dining room, and dirty/run down restaurant. Overall our experience was good, but the smoke in the dining room was a real problem that actually had my eyes burning/watering while we were eating (it literally looked like an AARP Club Catholic Church bingo event, it was that smoky inside the restaurant), the food is stupid expensive ($35 lunch, one person), and the sides just weren't good (bland coleslaw and broccoli salad). The restaurant also needs a facelift and desperate deep clean... It had that dirty, grimy, sticky feel on the floors and tables (presumably from all the smoke in the dining room). I still consider Shigs n' Pit to be the far and wide the best BBQ in town, but Lucille's has the potential to be really good if they can make some adjustments, improvements, and clean the place up.

Sweet Smoked Pork Steak with BBQ sauce (Lucille's BBQ, north Lima Road) - tried something…read moredifferent, good value and very tasty I prefer Lucille's BBQ plate selections as I feel they give me good value. A select smoked meat with two sides for $14-16. This gives you a good all around taste of Lucille's offerings. On this trip I selected the sweet smoked pork steak with Mac & Cheese and Wilson baked beans. The entree was $14. The pork steak was a thinly cut piece of pork - maybe 3/4 inch thick. The steak definitely had hints of smokey and grilled flavors. The meat was tender, no pink color and moist. It was easily cut when warm, not as easy as it cooled. This is a large flat piece of meat so it took time to cut into pieces and savor. The BBQ sauce was sweet with no real spicy after taste kick. Glad I tried this selection. I really like the Mac & Cheese as it is very creamy and has a nice cheese flavor. The sauce has some jalapeño pieces - so expect a little heat and kick. The Wilson baked beans are also a bit spicy. There are small pieces of brisket embedded in the sweet savory BBQ bean sauce. Lucille's has a nice selection of other delicious sides for you to try. Lucille's does a nice job with smoked BBQ meats. Make the trip north to the corner of Lima and Wallen Roads. It's worth a try!

Laycoff's Tavern (near Granite City/Target, North Clinton St) - iconic place with good pizza…read more Laycoff's is a fun little place to frequent. It doesn't seat a lot of people. So...you might have to wait for a table. Unfortunately there isn't space for a nice waiting area. So you might stand up in the small bar area while you wait. It's okay. Things move fast. Enjoy the people watching opportunity. The team here is very friendly and welcoming in an odd way. They really are glad to serve you. Lots of smiles and friendly smiles. They are efficiently-friendly. They all move and talk fast. They are hustling to serve - not avoid. They will take a moment to get to relate...but not much more than a moment. The service is very good! The Sullivan family is very nice as well. Laycoff's is known for sausage rolls and a community bar environment. My wife loves her sausage roll. Full of tasty cheese surrounded by a light, fluffy and soft dough. The American sausage blended in with the cheese nicely. The menu has a small number of specialty pizzas (only six) along with build-your-own option. The prices are pretty comparable to other bars. On this occasion I got a 16" Everything pizza for $20. A 16 inch pizza was a LOT of delicious pizza. The pizza crust is thin. It is thin enough that almost every bit has a slight crunch. However, it was also soft enough to satisfy the less than crunchy crowd. The crust doesn't have much distinct flavor or seasoning. Just a nice thin crust. The pizza sauce was also hard to distinguish. The pizza is so full of toppings and cheese that you really don't see the sauce. The sauce that was they are blended well with the American sausage base. Now the best part - the fresh toppings! Laycoff's uses the Pizza King approach by using finely chopped toppings. The base of the Everything pizza is a finely ground American sausage. The base of the pizza so completely covered with sausage on the Everything choice. The sausage doesn't have much spice or flair as it is American style instead of Italian. The pepperoni is very thin. The fresh and slightly crunchy onions and peppers are chopped into small pieces. Even the green and black olives seemed to be smaller. The whole pizza was coated in delicious tasting mozzarella cheese. As I mentioned the 16 inch pizza is a large pizza. Laycoff's cuts the pizza into large pieces as well. This pizza could easily feed 3-4 people. Cold Pizza Test - I always want to try the pizza the next morning, cold, and for breakfast. This pizza was outstanding cold and as a left over. The coldness causes the mozzarella cheese taste to really come forward. The saltiness of the olives gets bolder. The bed of sausage and cover of cheese really help keep the pizza moist. The crust stayed a bit soft with a slight crunch. Overall, I really liked the pizza. It wasn't outstanding. However, it was really good at a good value. Dinning at Laycoff's has a sense of memorabilia and nostalgia. Be patient and enjoy the environment.

All of the signage and decor had thick layers of dust. We also had an extremely long weight. I almost wish we would've just left.
