Small little dinner on the North Side of Auburn that serves up some awesome breakfast and dinner specials on Friday evening. Great food and prices in small town setting.

Good gracious French Toast!! Sorry I had already eaten one before the pic.

Very nice small dinner! We were here for breakfast and we had a great one. Reminds me of home. Everyone around the table passing this and that, while reaching over nearly absurd serving sizes. So nice to see this! Flavors are good as well! Drop in for down home favorites!

Wrap, pie, Buffalo chips

I went in for lunch today. We had buffalo chicken wrap, the ham club wrap and the grilled cheese/soup combo. The soup is homemade. It's awesome. It was a sausage cabbage soup. This is not my first time having it here. But this is the only place I have had that soup. It is fresh and very very filling. So full of veggies and sausage. The buffalo chicken was good with grilled chicken and fresh fresh veggies. It's not out of the ordinary but it is a really good buffalo chicken wrap. I was leery of the ham wrap because ham bunches up is usually not good. But this is thinly sliced and very tender and fresh ham. I would eat this wrap again. In the picture you can see the grilled cheese. It is super thick bread. If you like grilled cheese and bread you will love this. We had two pieces of homemade pie. Butterscotch and lemon. Some of the lemon is in the picture. I ate the butterscotch too fast to take a picture!!!! The lemon has an awesome crust and zippy tang and tart lemon filling that is not out of a can. I have never had bad pie here. The gentleman next to me had peach and he crushed that as well! Go here expecting good stuff. I have always had a good experience with the people, the servers, the owner and the food.

Fantastic local mostly breakfast place. Quaint 50's style diner with a gathering bar stool type wrap around table and great all around conversations had by all. The food was made quickly and tasted great as well. The server was very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend this place and will certainly be back.

Fish dinner.

Came to this little dinner on recommendation from friends. The place is small and tight, the service is somewhat slow and unresponsive, not terrible but noticeable. The place is clean but not immaculate. Having hit on some of the negatives, I gave it 4 stars because the positives far outweigh the negatives. The staff was warm and friendly, they were all family and friends working together which gave the place a homey feel. The food, while not great was very good. I had the fish with tater tots and chili. The fish was somewhat bland to me but my wife loved it. It was a cornmeal breading, light and flaky. The tots were tots, it's hard to mess up tots. The chili was good, very meaty, almost too meaty. Like I stated before, good but shy of great. They also had homemade bread which i saw being served to another table in the form of sandwiches and their deserts looked very tasty. Overall the place was a joy for a small dinner and I will definitely be coming back.

Great breakfast, reasonably priced. A small place with a big friendly feeling, we'll be back the next time we're in the area.

Mimi's Retreat (Auburn, on the square) - dinning "retreat" during the Auburn Fair…read more Here is another one of our family traditions. We enjoy going to the Auburn Free Fall Fair. Looking at the 4-H animals, walking through the commercial tent, getting donuts, people watching and taking in the food vendor sights/smells are part of that experience. We also like to grab a bite to eat while there. However, I'm just not interested in fighting the lines to get an expensive corn dog, sirloin tip and/or fish sandwich....and then having no where to sit, relax and eat our selections. Enter Mimi's Retreat! Mimi's Retreat is small community bar that is located on the south side of the square - so they are right in the middle of the action! They are always open during the fair and tend to have fewer customers than normal. This makes them a great choice to duck into to get a good meal, at a pretty good price and sit & relax away from the crowds. Mimi's has been a part of the Auburn scene for as long as I can remember. They are best described as a community bar. They have some TV's for sports viewing. The attractive looking bar will seat about 10 people. There are less than modern tables to seat about another 40 patrons. Mimi's is set in an old building. They have stayed true to the older feel in terms of wood work, brick and vintage feel. The decor mainly features bar modern day product signs and some historic Auburn pictures. The kitchen is easily viewed as you walk in the door. The place is rather comfortable and inviting. The staff here is welcoming and friendly. Mimi's service may not be the most attentive when the bar is busy - just be aware. The menu is pretty simple and moderately priced. They have the typical bar food with a few add-ons that give them a little boarder touch including non-bar food daily specials. I can't speak for bar service. It seems like they hustle the best they can. Food tends to come out at a decent pace - depending on the crowd. Mimi's is definitely a no-frills kind of place as the non-alcohol drinks are served in a Toby Keith style red Solo cup. Now onto the food. We started with the sweet potato fries. The fries are thin and fried to a moderate crisp - like you would expect, not mushy. The fry has a nice bold sweet potato taste. They aren't very oily. The real treat is the homemade Hawaiian pineapple dipping sauce. It is smooth, thick and sweet. You literally can taste the refreshing Hawaiian flavors which really bring out the bolder sweet potato taste. Definitely a must try! The blacken chicken Caesar wrap is very tasty. The chicken is very moist and nicely grilled. The mild tasting Caesar dressing is applied in moderation and helps pull all the flavors together. Note: this $8 item doesn't come with a side, that is extra. The Cole slaw is homemade and outstanding. It includes white and purple cabbage. Onions, carrots and red peppers are apart of this fresh tasting side. The Cole slaw is mayo based. However, the mayo is very lightly applied and it has a hint of vinegar flavoring - the best of both style Cole slaws. The fish dinner has seven medium pieces for $14.99. It comes with French fries and one side. The French fries were a lot like the sweet potato fries in terms of cut, firmness and oiliness - fairly good. The fish pieces tasted fresh-ish. No fishy or frozen tastes. The meat was soft, tender and slightly flaky. The breading is rather thin. It is also rather plain to taste - unlike a Fish of Stroh type fillet. The tarter sauce has a heavier mayo taste with a mild amount of pickle/tartar flavoring. It definitely isn't sweet or heavier on relish like I like it. Overall...Mimi's makes a good place to pick up a meal regardless of the time of year. Give them a try sometime when you are in Auburn.

Our server was friendly and took our orders promptly. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich, I ordered the breaded tenderloin, and we shared fries. The sandwiches were good, but the fries were a bit disappointing--very small portion for nearly $5 extra. They were thin, McDonald's-style fries. The bar wasn't busy during our visit, with only a couple tables occupied at a time. Staff seemed to know most guests personally, greeting them with hugs. The music was loud, which may be fun for some, but felt a little overwhelming to us. The biggest issue was the restrooms, which had a very strong odor that made the experience unpleasant. Overall, the food itself was decent, but the portion sizes, loud atmosphere, and restroom cleanliness kept it from being a great visit.

My husband got the Joanna's Skillet with over easy eggs and a side of pancakes, while I got the same thing but scrambled eggs. I think it might be better with over easy eggs, just because it gives you a little sauce to coat your skillet in. I don't know how they get their skillets to be so tasty, but it's fantastic and a must get when you're here. Pancakes are nice and fluffy, good amount of butter, and plenty of syrup. I think the price is around $15, but the menu is extensive, and way too much to post pictures. I do want to try the chorizo skillet and (maybe if I feel wild one day) the crepes. But it's really, really hard to not get the skillet. The food is always good here. Service was fantastic and always friendly. The place was cutely decorated with Christmas decorations. For the price, this is the best spot for breakfast/lunch.

The service was so quick & friendly that I even got excited about being there. The restaurant is well-lit, unlike other local diners, which was nice. Our server remembered the sugar-free syrup I ordered, which went a long way for me. My eggs were so fluffy and the bacon was plentiful & substantial. I haven't had such good bacon & eggs in a long time. My waffle was standard, but still worth the trip. Our server even thought to bring butter without me asking, also delightful. My fiancé LOVED the country skillet. He prefers filling meals & he only got through half of the dish! That's saying a lot because he got a lot of food, delivering real value! Our server was friendly & did an excellent job with taking care of us. We cannot wait to come back to Joanna's for breakfast or brunch again!
