We really wanted to love this place. It has all the ingredients we love in a restaurant.- live music, cozy vibe, walkable from my daughter's home, unique menu. But it just didn't hit right. The ricotta gnocchi was too tender, and the sauce had so many flavors fighting to be the star, but they didn't play nice together. I literally couldn't eat it. The mussels were okay, sauce had good flavor. Seemed it would've been more appropriate to have a smaller portion as an appetizer though, was an odd entree. The saddest part of the night for me was the bread pudding. Bread pudding is my favorite comfort dessert. The bread pudding itself was OK. But the dark caramel sauce was beyond dark, it was burnt. We found everyone at the restaurant to be very kind, including our server, but she lacked the basics of good service. Our tablecloth was dirty, noticed it right as we sat down, set the stage for how service was. As a former fine dining server it is a pet peeve to see servers doing their side work We were her only table and had to wait while she polished silverware while sitting at the bar. Another fantastic dinning experience at Chance Bar! Chance really does dinner well. Everything from the personal service and touch to excellent food to an eclectic atmosphere. It really is a must try if you are looking g for a dinning experience. The facility is small and parking out back can be a challenge. Making reservations is easy on their website. I would encourage this as it is nice to have and be able to relax. The team here is great. Addie greeted us and quickly got us to our table. She was friendly, all smiles and quick to make sure our water glasses were refilled. Chelsea was our waitress. She made us feel right at home and welcomed. She made sure to follow up regularly with us and was very friendly. Corey, one of the owners and chefs, came out to meet us. You could tell that he was genuinely glad we were there and wanted to make sure we were satisfied with the cook. The atmosphere is very quaint. The dining area is small but overly packed or loud. The white table coverings and dim lights were nice. There was soft jazz music overhead and an interesting collection of local art work on the wall. I was surprised that Chance didn't have much drink service outside of beer and wine. There is a bar predominantly places in the restaurant but no liquor items to serve. The wine list was moderately large and had a couple items that would appeal to dry red wine drinkers. One of the things I like about Chance is the selection of small plate shareables. You can make a meal out of a couple or accent an entree as an appetizer. We like to get several of these to sample. We started with the beer bread. The comes with two large slices of bread. The bread is served room temperature. This leads you to conclude, at first bite, that the bread is a bit dry and stale. The bread is thick and dense. It does has a drier taste but it isn't dry. There is a good beer flavoring present. The honey butter was fun. The butter chunk was thicker and hard. The honey was drizzled over the top with possibly a little cinnamon accent. You had to work a little to get the ratio and spread you want. The beer battered mushrooms are still good. The medium sized mushroom is covered in a thick and crispy batter. There is a slight beer taste in each large mushroom. The mild horseradish dipping sauce was a nice compliment. We also ordered the rib tips. This is a small dish that is packed with lots of flavor. The crispy garlic chips were unique and tasty. The garlic is overpowering and crisp tastes slightly burnt. The honey BBQ sauce is delicious - mop it off the plate delicious! The sauce is thick and sweet. It has a slightly strong BBQ spice flavor. The jalapeño rings are well cooked and soaked up the BBQ glaze nicely. While tasty the jalapeño rings were slightly spicy to taste. We did order the ricotta gnocchi again. It was delicious the first time we ordered it. It was outstanding again. The gnocchi is freshly made and soft but slightly firm to cut. The ricotta gives the dish a slight cheese flavor. The tomato based sauce is smooth and moderately thick. The sightly sweet Italian seasoned sauce was a perfect covering for the gnocchi! read more

What a great spot!! We were visiting from out of town, and were looking for a new resturaunt to celebrate our 3 year anniversary together. One person recommended Chance Bar, so we made a reservation. While we were out to grab a drink for happy hour, our bartender said Chance Bar is in her top 2 favorite places in Fort Wayne. She gave us a few recommendations that got us even more excited to go! The atmosphere is so cozy and makes you want to stay a while. Our servers were so sweet, and helpful! They offered great menu suggestions. We couldn't make up our minds on what to get, so we shared a few different plates. We started with the beer bread- OH MY GOSH! So good!!! We then moved on to the Rib Tips! My mouth is still watering just thinking about them. We then shared the Spagehtti- so light and garlicky! Absolutely amazing. We ended with a flourless chocolate cake and the chef sent out his panna cotta. The chocolate cake was rich and smooth, and a bit tart with the orange marmalade. The panna cotta was light and buttery. Both were so good. We took our left overs to go, and are pumped for our taste buds to enjoy them tomorrow. We chose Chance Bar for dinner this Saturday with friends. Loved the atmosphere, which still holds reminders of when this building housed one of our favs, Hartley's, but now with an updated attitude! We were warmly welcomed by the host and immediately ushered to our reserved linen covered table. Our server was FABULOUS! Friendly but not intrusive, knowledgeable re: the menu, efficient, attentive, and patient with any questions we asked. Can't say enough about the wonderful job she did! Our table shared appetizers including the Hungarian Mushroom Soup with paprika, garlic, and parsley (pictured). Yum! Husband had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken "Sammy", Korean-inspired and with an apple slaw (pictured). One of our friends had the German-Style Mac-n-cheese (pictured). And two of us had the Wood Farms double bacon cheeseburger, mine without the bun, the other with bun (both pictured). Three GIANT onion rings accompanied the burgers. EVERYTHING we had was delicious. We had a beautiful and delicious experience at Chance Bar! A group of five of us went on a half-priced wine Wednesday night over the holidays. We sat in the back room which was beautifully decorated and they were playing "Die Hard" on the TV which was beyond awesome. We ordered so many amazing things, and the service was top-notch. Steak tartare: this was the best I've ever had! It was a generous portion, perfectly seasoned and so flavorful. The plating was stunning! I'll order this every time. Liver pate: I'm a liver pate junkie, and this liver pâté sent me over the moon. The texture was so creamy and the liver flavor was present without being too overpowering. The accompaniments really paired well with the richness of the liver and made for a beautiful plate. The crostini's were perfectly toasty. I love a good crostini! Rib tips: these were out of this world! If you're feeling crummy, come in for a beer or glass/bottle of wine and these rib tips will set straight. Perfectly cooked, tender yet crispy in all the right spots, and the sticky, sweet and tangy sauce should be in my bathtub! Because I want to bathe in it. Cheeseburger: it was yummy! Great quality beef. The hand-breaded onion rings were hearty yet light and airy. Fried chicken sandwich: this was dynamite! Perfectly cooked, tender chicken, crispy skin... loved the bun too! Beet salad: delectably balanced and fresh. I get this every time. Pairs well with just about anything. Blackened fish: this fish (can't remember which kind of fish) was perfectly blackened with nutty and rich roasted brussel sprouts. Overall, it was a magical dining experience. The wait staff was so friendly and on point. The wine was delicious. The ambiance was so inviting and warm, like a big hug from an old friend. My wife and I finally got a 'chance' to check out Chance. The location on Fairfield used to be Hartley's back in the day. This is a casual establishment with a local, neighborhood feel to it. The Caesar salad had an anchovi based based dressing that was good, but might not be liked by all. My wife can't turn down fresh corn chowder and it was tasty. The meatloaf sounded tasty, but they were out. Plan B was the chicken sandwich. Great flavor in every bite, but a little messy. Delicious potato "fries" on the side. My wife had the trout and loved everything about the entire dish. Filled donuts with raspberry sauce to round out the evening. Make sure you continue to support these local places! :) read more

Without the assistance of a Yelp review or two, you might look at the menu and go, "Huh?!" You might even dismiss this place with such seemingly oddball flavor fusions. And you would be grossly mistake not to try this. There are such unique ingredient combinations, and flavors not normally joined together. But, goodness gracious, the food is superb! I, my wife, and her co-worker went on a Wednesday night, when they offer half-price bottles on select (?) wines. We ordered a nice bubbly with some mushrooms, whipped feta, and charcuterie. The bruleed whipped feta was far and away the star. The contrasting flavors in the dip was fascinating, and quite delicious. Don't discount the mushrooms, though. They were fabulous! My party then ordered the gnocchi and seared trout. The gnocchi was so fresh and bright, and I highly recommend. However! The seared, crab filled trout was one of the best fish dishes I've had in quite some time! Such a complex dish that really is elevated by getting a bite of all the ingredients, which are numerous! A supreme meal! Paired with an off dry riesling and it paired wonderfully! We didn't order any cocktails, but quickly vanquished a bubbly and german white. The wine list is not extensive, but the pairing options are more than adequate and priced surprisingly well in many cases. There isn't an item on the menu that can't be paired appropriately with a quality wine. This a fabulous restaurant. Our waiter was fun, informative, engaging, and helpful with our menu questions. We live about 3 minutes from Chance Bar and we just experienced it's glory tonight for the first time! We stumbled upon it via Facebook earlier today and ordered take out for the games tonight. My husband went and grabbed it and shared these awesome pictures with me. Once Covid settles down a bit more we're certainly going to dine in! Visited Chance Bar with a 7pm reservation for a party of 6. Our waitress was rude from the beginning expressing frustration when we didn't understand the 5 course meal special. She was not attentive and gave us no explanation after 2 hours why our main courses were not yet out. When I questioned her, the response was I'm doing the best that I can. Our bill was on the upward side of 500.00 for a party of six with dinner and wine, tip. For the price the service we received was awful. Our reservation was at 7pm and we didn't have our main courses until 9:15. We needed to leave to get home to our baby sitter. We left with our food in take home containers. I had the soft shell crab (it was a special for that night) and it was perfectly fried and the sauce that came with it was phenomenal. The salad was simple but also good. Our appetizer was the deviled eggs, which are not your typical ingredients but they were also good. My youngest daughter had the Korean bbq chicken sandwich and it was delicious. My husband had the steak and ate it all. Also my oldest daughter had the ricotta gnocchi and said the sauce was not good at all, it ruined the meal itself. I wouldn't recommend that dish. All three were fantastic, but the star of the show was the sausage, a recipe the bartender Ted said was the chefs grandmothers. Caseless sausage with onions and peppers with fantastic spices. Superb. We were pretty full from the small plates so we split a main dish of the salmon, which was also very,very good. Only small complaint would be only beer and wine (but a nice selection of both), so no bourbon or mixed drinks. We sat at the bar rail and Ted (Hope I am remembering his name correctly) took great care of us, and answered all my stupid questions. He was wearing a White Sox hat , so there is that.....lol.
