    Waygu beef bacon package (empty)
    Penni S.

Waygu beef called me here. We were driving through the area and I really wanted to sample something from Joseph Decius. We weren't dressed for the restaurant so we stopped at the Emporium before closing time. We selected pepperoni and Waygu beef bacon from the cooler. There was a cut of meat (can't recall the name) that we selected but didn't purchase when it rang up @$80. Waygu beef is expensive but I would have appreciated a price tag on the packaging instead of waiting for the cashier to ring it in. The quality of the items that we purchased was excellent. I am trying to convince my husband to ditch his cargo shorts for a few hours so we can try the restaurant.

Had an amazing time celebrating my friend's birthday last night! The food and drinks were delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect. They made the night feel extra special--highly recommend!

I've been sitting on this review for a while trying to decide what I need to say for the typical Yelp reader. Joseph Decuis has a reputation for high quality food and a special dinning experience. They don't disappoint in that regard. JD is a special place to visit if you have a special occasion - you can't go wrong if you want a unique/over the top experience. You can tell by the pictures that JD pays attention to all the fine details. The facility is beautiful, quaint, clean, comfortable and welcoming. It's easy to rest and relax in this atmosphere if you are looking for a fine dinning experience. JD has open facilities that can accommodate larger groups. The staff is very friendly, professional and welcoming. They are very attentive to all your needs. We had a large party. JD made sure that there was plenty of help to meet every member of or parties needs. The bar service is high quality. The wines and liquors presented are a very high quality. The presentation affirms the quality there in. The menu is very creative. I had the King Salmon with popcorn accents. Who would think of having flavored popcorn with salmon? Of course...all dishes will have a fresh taste and use high quality ingredients. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Now not all dishes will appeal to everyone. And they will not WOW everyone's tastes. However, the dishes are well crafted and presented. And...portions are moderately small. Now the question most people ask...is it worth the cost? JD usually has a moderately priced menu to keep the cost around $60 a person. Otherwise...dinner will typically be $100+ per person. You have to decide if you valve this type of dinning experience and whether it will satisfy your tastes. Personally I love a unique dinning on occasion. And I'm willing to pay that price for the experience.

I took our Mississinewa Valley Corvette Club to Joseph Decius for lunch. The Emporium was warm and inviting. Our host and manager Dennis seated us, and then decided to move us down the block to their nighttime location, because he thought our group of 15 would be more comfortable in a larger setting. Wow! It was very nice! Dennis and the staff went above and beyond serving us. Several ordered their specialty hamburger (wagyu beef), salads, Rueben's and the delicious lentil soup. We enjoyed each other's company around this huge beautiful table while enjoying the delicious food. I would love to return for an evening meal experience in the summer, as they have a beautiful garden patio.

Acquired taste! All grass fed nothing like store bought. WAY healthier for you. So if it's something you can get used to, I HIGHLY recommend it!! Plus it's a food experience like very little other food places offer (it's no Applebees)! Try it you will feel good after for many of reasons...

WOW!!! This is by far one of the best places I have eaten. The BEST steak I have had. My husband and I always try local places and many from Yelp. So we have had some yummy food. I highly recommend this place. You will pay a little more. But the food is worth it. Their Wagyu comes from their farm that is near by. The atmosphere is also super unique. Will definitely be a return customer. If I could give more stars I would. LOVED IT!!!!! Wagyu Steak was amazing. Crab Pasta was so tasty.

The Wagyu Beef 'stroganoff'- not much Wagyu to be found!

I have been to Joseph Decuis several times but not for a couple of years. I had great memories of the food, love the location and atmosphere and really wanted to go back. I finally had a chance to go again and I made a reservation for myself and a good friend as a holiday/birthday celebration. We both had checked out the menu on the website and were excited. Firstly, I will say that the service was impeccable. Our servers were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to the perfect level. We were seated in the large room which I had never been in before. It was quite chilly despite the fact that it was quite mild outside. When were handed our menus, we were a little surprised. The website said that the menu for December was posted but the menu in the actual restaurant was missing several of entrees and appetizers that were on the web version. This meant that there were only five entrees to choose from, three of which featured the famous Wagyu beef. As I can't eat scallops, I pretty much had to choose between chicken and beef. My friend ordered the Wagyu strip steak which was listed as 'market price'. I decided to try the 'stroganoff' as I liked the trimmings it came with. We also ordered a bottle of wine. In the meantime, we tried the charcuterie tray which was very tasty and well put together thought the nuts were a little bland and added very little to the plate. When the food arrived, it was very pretty. There was, however, not too much on the Strip Steak plate. The meat was sliced already and sat atop a few vegetables and potato. My stroganoff looked hearty. When we dug in, I discovered I like the flavor of the dish but the textures were a little...mushy. The turnips were pressed into cylinders that were a little play-doh like. The wagyu itself was completely wasted by this preparation. It was braised and being as tender as it it, it basically dissolved and became just a beefy pile of mush rather than having any texture or bit to it. It was a spicy dish- which our server had warned me about- but not too spicy. It was seasoned well...it was just not as appealing to eat as I'd like. The Wagyu on the steak plate that my friend had was tasty and well cooked. By the time the check came, the meal racked up to about $250 which was not unexpected or unreasonable. However, the steak my friend ordered was $90 on it's own which, while nice, did not compare to any of the many fine-dining steakhouses I've been to before. The wine I had ordered was not *exactly* the wine that we go though it was a good choice and only $10 more than the one we had wanted. Overall, while I have fond memories of Joseph Decuis, I'm a little sad that they have gone 'all-in' on their Wagyu to the detriment of having a full-rounded menu. While I understand it's the Wagyu that has put them on the map, it's not a diverse menu and offers little for those that don't want beef. I had my first sweetbreads there as well as a duck dish, excellent pasta and some top-tier gumbo in the past. It's a shame that they've done away with their variety and have chose to focus solely on the very expensive steak. I likely won't go back again and will save that type of expense for restaurants when I travel to New York or Chicago. I've had far better meals for that type of price and didn't feel so much that I'd been a little ripped-off.

We recently moved to Indiana from San Diego and wanted to find a place to celebrate our 31st anniversary. High end steakhouses are our tradition, so we figured we'd give this place a try. I'll start with the star of the show, the Wagyu. Now, we've eaten steak at the super fancy places all over the US, so we have unusually high expectations. At first glance, it looks like any other basic steak house plate of steak. The plating was a bit dated with the steak sliced and sauced sitting on a layer of sautéed veggies, sitting on a pile of mashed potatoes, so I wasn't expecting what happened next. Holy guacamole! The second you put a bite in your mouth, you know you're experiencing something special. The flavor punches you on every taste bud while being one of the most tender cuts I've ever had! It was cooked to pure perfection and you can feel the love in every bite. I will dream of this Wagyu for the rest of my life and it is the standard by which all future steaks will be judged. I actually think I won't ever be able to order a steak from anywhere else ever again as I'll just be disappointed!! I read some other reviews that complain about the portion size and price and all I can say is they're out of their minds! This is not a steakhouse where you get a piece of poorly cooked, chewy beef that covers the entire plate and gives you leftovers to make three more full meals. It's a high end steakhouse that cares more about quality than quantity and the portions are enough to fill you up unless you're a teenage boy going through a growth spurt. As for the price, we paid less for our full meal (2 appetizers, 4 alcoholic drinks, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts) here than what we paid for just entrees for for the last 10 years! Like I said above, we also had apps and desserts. The charcuterie platter was good and had a decent selection of meats and cheeses. The portion size for the apps are larger than the pictures show. We'd made a good dent in them by the time I remembered to take pictures! The appetizer star was the steak, potato, and egg. It sounds weird, but it was sweet, salty, creamy, crunchy magic and we'd absolutely get it again. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake (it was okay but nothing special) and the cranberry Italian meringue tart which we both agreed was something special. The tart cranberry cream with the sweet meringue, topped with candied cranberries in a buttery tart shell was the perfect end to our meal. Our service was good and they were attentive without hovering, which was a real plus. The drinks were clearly made by a true professional as they were perfectly balanced and delicious. On our way out, we had the honor of meeting the owners/farmers. They're off their rockers for sticking this place in Indiana and not LA, New York, or Chicago where they'd be instant millionaires, but I'm so glad they did! It's a family owned and run farm to table business and you can tell they've poured their hearts and souls into making it a success. If you've read this far, you know by now that we'll definitely be back and I'm not going to wait until our next anniversary!! No word of a lie, I don't care where in the world we live, I will fly here just to have this steak again. If you're smart, you'll become a regular, too!!

We came here in June for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Because of the shutdown, we missed coming back the year before. It was nice that they're still here. It's a sweet little town with charm and quaint streets. We took a walk around town after dinner just to enjoy the views. The restaurant is in an old bank so inside it has a great atmosphere. Art and decor is lovely. We started with morels which were in a tasty sauce which we shared. They have wonderful drinks and wine, too. Their menu is fresh and changing but Wagyu beef is a mainstay. We decided to have salads and they have something for anyone with unusual but tasty combinations. Then we ordered their Wagyu beef filets, which they raise locally. It's a treat. They advertise their farm-to-table local sources of food and they aim to please. We also added more morels as they only come around once a year. For dessert we had a dish our server recommended and we shared it as usually we're too full to have any. It was a special night and they treated us well. You can book a room at their town inn or the farm inn to make it even more special. We have done this in the past. They have a farm you can tour or if you get there early, you can visit their Emporium next door, which has lunch, items to buy, etc.

    Amazing wagyu strip. Just amazing!

I had been wanting to try this place for a very long time. Decided to go on our 19th year Anniversary. The food and atmosphere was top notch all the way. They even gave us a personalized menu! We both got the wagyu strip. Had an amazing sauce and was so tender. Literally melted in my mouth. We also had a corn soup that we ate too quick to get a picture. Once again, pretty amazing. My wife got the cherry pie and I got the peach cobbler. The desserts were not my favorite - they just had some tastes that I was not used to. I felt like there were some spices that just did not go well with a classic cherry pie or cobbler. Overall a great experience and would recommend if you are looking for something very special.

If you are looking for an amazing dining experience at the only fork-to-table Wagyu beef restaurant in the States, you can't go wrong at Joseph Decuis! The owners of Joseph Decuis have thought about and refined everything when it comes to a fine dining experience. The unassuming location near a blinking stoplight downtown Roanoke drastically changes once you open the door. The restaurant is beautiful inside and after the friendly greeters, you'll pass by the front of the kitchen were you can often find chefs carefully assembling the latest meal. I've never sat at one of the tables, as I typically travel alone for business, but know that one can eat a full meal at the bar as well. The wine list is carefully crafted and rotates as much as the seasonal menu. The table is meticulously arranged and if you're ordering Wagyu, the server will let you pick from a variety of knives fashioned from antler horn handles. I will agree with other Yelpers that the price and portion size are not proportional to other American restaurants, however, the quality and presentation of the food is exceptional. That being said, however, there are a few dishes I would caution diners: WAGYU - If you're going to try the beef, and I definitely would at least once, know that for $70+ you will only get a 5 or 6 oz portion. This will seem underwhelming for the price you pay, so unless you're my mother-in-law who doesn't eat a lot, make sure you get an appetizer or have a bite to eat before you arrive. CHARCUTERIE - Joseph Decuis is extremely proud of their meat and produce. There is no better showcase for this than the charcuterie and cheese board. The waitstaff will describe the meats and cheeses upon arrival and one will note many of them made in house. While their handcrafted preserved Wagyu meats and cheeses are decent, I've had many boards that are way better than this. NOTE: One of these visits I'm going to pony up and drop the $110 for a six course, chef tasting menu (with an optional $40 for accompanying wine). Considering how amazing the food is, I just have to try this (although it would be cheaper with more people). I'll update my review after that happens. ***My Recommendation*** Grab a glass of wine, choose an appetizer (the gumbo is spot on), and get a non-Wagyu main course. You will not only be smiling when you leave the restaurant, your pocketbook won't feel as light as other Yelp reviewers. ;-)

Hungry Farmer 1/2 lb Wagyu Burger (quarantine menu)
    Melody C.

The first thing I noticed when I picked up my order was that it smelled amazing, the Wagyu beef filled my car up with a subtle, rich and sweet aroma different from regular beef that really built up my anticipation. The burger was a little smoky, the bun was heavily buttered and salty, and the patty was so juicy that when you bite down the salty and fatty juice threatens to dribble down your chin. I also ordered their stir-fry and added Wagyu. The sweet and savory vegetables and sweetness of the beef compliments each other, and the pepper adds a nice kick to round it out. I found the beef in the stir-fry to be on the dry side, but it still tasted amazing. The quarantine menu is different from the regular menu and is more affordable, so if you've always wanted to try some Wagyu beef but found it pricey, now is the time. You won't regret it!

Spoke + Ivy (west Main Street, FW) - another locally unique dinning experience that deserves a try…read more Spoke + Ivy is located on west Main Street - across the parking lot from Redwood Inn restaurant, if that helps. This restaurant is set in an old building that used to house a pharmacy. It retains the character of the building via the hardwood interiors, tall ceilings, large window views of the street and concrete/industrial ceilings. The interior is nicely decorated with inviting green, brown wood and black accent colors. Table settings were very attractive as well. You can park in the small side lot or on the street. Reservations are easily made on line. The team is very friendly and welcoming. All set the stage for a fun and relaxing dinner experience. Spoke + Ivy has a very small food and specialty cocktail menu. This is the second time we have been here. Each time we found the food to be delicious and the cocktails are uniquely designed. Here is a run down on the food items we ordered: -Focaccia Bread: a mildly sweet, dense/firm bread, slightly airy with a touch of herbs to accent. It is cut into blocks so it is easier to share. The vodka sauce is thin in consistency with a smooth Italian seasoned tomato appeal. Both make for a deliciously simple starter. -Lobster Roll Rangoon: decided to give this a try. It comes out as one large Rangoon - not individual pieces. This means that you must awkwardly cut this shareable into pieces. The slightly crispy & oily wrapper is similar to most crab Rangoon pieces. It has a nice crisp. The inside has shredded pieces of lobster. It was not filled with creme cheese sauce like traditional rangoons - just plain. The green lemon parsley sauce was simply outstanding! It's very fresh, moderately thick and has a slightly tart taste. This added "the sauce" to what the inside of the Rangoon was lacking. -Milanese: nicely breaded chicken that was very moist. The breading is slightly sweet. The fresh bed of arugula salad is a nice add -Prime Rib Pho: this sounded really interesting. It's a smaller/healthier dish. The medium rare prime rib was sliced thin and tender. There wasn't many pieces of prime rib in this dish. The add-ins were fresh and much like you would expect from a Pho dish - just not as much volume. The broth has a chili oil base that gives it a spicier flavor. Overall we really enjoy this relaxed atmosphere and character of the building. The delicious food and cocktails are excellent.

We were seated in a very awkward corner table for two where the tables were really close together. Since it was our Valentine's celebration, I would have been uncomfortable with the tables next to us having people at them because it didn't give you any privacy or space for private conversation. We did not get drinks or appetizers. Our meals were very good (salmon and chicken). The server was good but didn't refill my water and that' a big deal to me. Also, it's supposed to be an upscale place and they were out of paper towels in the bathroom. I feel like that is just basic service they should check on regularly.

Fried carrot pakora was delicious! Highly recommend trying. The radish dish was ok, has a strange aftertaste but the fried capers were good. The pastas were both flavorful with homemade noodles. We went during happy hour, which is a great deal. A bit expensive if you don't go during happy hour. The beet spice cake was warm, flavorful and the syrup on top you could drink! Our server was very friendly and accommodating. Can get quite cold in there as the main doors opens directly into the space. Love the idea of the community table too.

I guess I'll skip to the end when I got my check, and was completely shocked to learn that I had a fantastic meal and an excellently made spritz, plus dessert, for a shockingly low price. I even double-checked the check, to make sure they didn't accidentally leave something off. No! How could it be? It turns out that I was visiting Rune during happy hour, which is Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 6 p.m. This could be why my bill was so agreeable. So, if you're looking for a great meal for a great price, visit during happy hour. So, the spritz. Literally every table ordered the spritz while I was there, including me. It was a great choice, and it looked especially pretty and ombre in a glass with ice. Like any good spritz, it had just enough alcohol to make things sparkle a little, but was also refreshing and hydrating. I made a note in my phone to remember that the bartender used words like "vegetal" and "herbaceous" when talking about some of the cocktails to the people sitting at the bar. I love a good vegetal, herbaceous drink, and it made me want to order another cocktail. Instead, I ordered the green spaghetti from the happy hour menu, which is a paired down menu, but has a lot of the items from the regular menu. The spaghetti was bright green from a pesto made from ramps, nori butter and parmesan, and there were also bits of clams throughout. It was rich and buttery! Ramps are one of those things that I have to get when I see them on a menu during the spring. They're only around for a short time, so they're precious. For dessert, I went with the pot de creme, which was flavored with pho spices (cinnamon, anise, coriander, cardamom, fennel, etc.) and had peanuts and chocolate on the bottom. Holy fudgy bottom! This was the smoothest, most balanced dessert I've eaten in a long time. Smooth, but with the occasional peanut here and there to make things interesting. The service was excellent. I was dining by myself, so I got seated at a cozy little table, lit with a candle, that was off to the side but also in the center of everything, so I could people watch, which is one of my favorite things to do. I wanted for nothing the entire time, but was also left the eff alone. It was perfect. It was one of the best dining experiences I've had that I can remember.

As a…read morebusiness traveler I am looking for great restaurants that are not chains and provide a feel for the town I'm in. This restaurant was recommended to me by two people. One who travels frequently for business and the other who is in town frequently with their family. Both recommended Tolon as a wonderful place to sit down and have an excellent meal. I'm happy they did. I walked in the door and was warmly greeted by the hostess and asked to sit at the bar. The bartender greeted me immediately when I sat down and grabbed a bottle of water and the stainless steel cup for the water and poured me a drink. She provided me with the menu and the cocktail menu and gave me space in time to make my decisions. I went with a glass of Malbec, and the deviled eggs as a starter. My main course was another small plate: the beef short rib with polenta cake. The deviled eggs were phenomenal and had a unique flavor and we're just right sized for one. The beef short rib dish was excellent and maybe a little more than I could handle it once after the deviled eggs. Every person that brought food to me or that chatted with me while I sat at the bar was kind and welcoming.

I mean, when eight people eat together and not one person complains, that's almost unheard of. Fast forward a year, and I found myself back at Tolon with four of the same people from that first visit. We started with the deviled eggs, which were everything you want them to be -- perfectly balanced flavors and a pristine presentation. The first time, we all ordered different entrées. This time, though, we all went for the steak. For a year, I've been telling anyone who will listen that Tolon has the best steak in Indiana. But after that first bite, it hit me -- this isn't just the best steak in Indiana... it might be the best in the country. Don't sleep on this hidden gem. Tolon delivers every single time.
