Got more than I expected out of this farm to table. There were a variety of ways to try the Wagyu besides spending $50 on a steak. Wonderful vegetable forward dishes with perfectly cooked vegetables. We sat outside and had a wonderful evening with great service, great food, and a great atmosphere. The spinach soup was amazing and several of the dishes were creative and had flavors that surprised me. read more

We have been taking advantage of the creative Quarantine Cuisine offered by Joseph Decuis. Each week brings a varied menu with 3-4 dinners served family style. You place an order ahead of time then pick up the ready-to-reheat dinner at a specified time. They will even bring it out to your car and place in trunk or backseat. For example, we are looking forward to the Wagyu lasagna we are having tomorrow night served with cheesy garlic bread and salad. Several times we have ordered an item for dinner, then ordered the lasagna to freeze. Thaw in fridge, heat up for dinner one night the following week! Other favorites we've had are the wagyu stew and mangalitsa pork chops. (Wow!) Thanks to JD for offering this great menu option while restaurants have been closed. read more

This hidden gem was worth the drive to visit. I loved all the dishes on the tasting menu, none disappointed. Wine pairings were also good, especially for the price point. I'm sure people come for the wagyu, but all the vegetarian dishes were excellent too. read more

Small plates were very good. However, menu is misleading, and food is over-priced compared to up-scale restaurants in Chicago and Indianapolis. Service was friendly, but slow. Our dining experience took over two and a half hours! The Mangalista Chop was nothing but pure fat, and tasted smoked or cured, very salty (which was not noted in the menu.) The Halibut entree was very bland and paired with a soured sauce. The Wagyu filet way very tasty, but only 5 ounces for $90! Definitely not worth the price. read more

I've eaten at this restaurant many times. The wagyu, pork, and almost all of the vegetables are from Joseph Decuis Farm, which uses organic practices. The wagyu is truly excellent, and the new chef has introduced a seasonally rotating menu to include the scrumptious vegetables from the farm. They even have shabu shabu, a Japanese meal I've seen at only a handful of restaurants in the U.S. Highly recommended! read more

My husband and I ate there for the first time recently. It had been recommended by a wealthy friend so I knew to expect high prices but wow! I did not expect prices that high! Just a warning that if you are watching your pennies you should be careful what you order! However, if you want to try the best food in the entire state of Indiana, possible the entire world, I say give this place a try. Atmosphere: We had an early reservation and chose to sit in the Conservatory. It had a beautiful view but it was a little chilly since it was mid-November, the overhead fans were on, and we were the only customers for awhile. The wait staff was very friendly. The atmosphere was closer to eating at home with family, in a really fancy dining room, then in a high end restaurant. Oh, there is a dress code: business casual, nobody in there had on jeans. Food: It's hard to describe it was so good. To start there was 3 different types of warm bread. Next came my Caesar salad with duck confit. A salad is a salad but this surpassed anything I had tried before. The main course seemed to take awhile but it also was delicious. I ordered the wagyu filet and my husband ordered the wagyu strip steak. These steaks literally melted in our mouths. I'm a very picky meat eater (I tend to order vegetarian) and if I bite into ANYTHING that doesn't feel right I will spit it out. I didn't spit out anything. I ate every bite and wished for more. The only negative is that the cuts were rather small, about 5oz I think. Dessert: Chocolate bourbon pecan cake. It had just the right mix of flavors. I could taste the bourbon but it wasn't overwhelming. Delicious. Price: Appetizer $20. Salad $10. Dessert $10. Wagyu filet $85. Wagyu strip steak $75. Wowzers expensive! I'd like to go back but I'd probably get the 50/50 cut. My teacher salary just can't handle a $250 (with tip) dinner very often! Oh, in case you were wondering, the menu doesn't have prices for the cuts of meat. That's why I was so surprised at the final bill. read more

True foodie's take note and GO... don't walk but RUN to Roanoke for perfection in food. I have had the pleasure to eat at Joseph Decuis numerous times and have not had a bad experience. Visit one was for a romantic dinner with my husband about 5 years ago. I have picture's I will share. Sit in the courtyard if you can. We had the pleasure of hearing a wonderful guitarist playing outside that night by the name of George Ogg, he recently passed away and it is a shame, he was very talented and made our evening all the more special. Hopefully when you experience Joseph Decuis you will have someone as talented to enhance your evening. Upon arrival we were presented with customized menu's that wished us "Happy Anniversary" The food was amazing. I had the wagyu fillet and I will confess happily it was worth every penny, I still remember after all this time how good it was! On this trip my husband was so impressed with the meal that he ordered every dessert on the menu... He just could not decide on one. The wine list is so extensive that it is hard to believe that this restaurant is in small town USA! There is really something for everyone at every price point so don't be intimidated, and don't be shy to ask for the wine steward if you have questions. Our next trip involved 2 other couples and lots of that wine I mentioned above, we were a bit obnoxious I am sorry to admit, but still treated with complete tolerance and respect. I enjoyed sea bass on this visit and it was perfectly prepared with a macadamia nut crust and risotto. Everyone at our table raved about the food. Other visits have been just as lovely. The menu is seasonal and is really a true farm to fork experience. They do keep the website up to date unlike many restaurants, so check it out. The first 2 visits we stayed at the bed and breakfast that the restaurant owns as we knew we would be drinking more than normal due to celebrating. Upon check in we were showed the kitchen and offered complementary soda's etc. We also had a platter of cheeses, veggies and fruits presented to us both times. The first time it was in our room. The next visit it was in the main living area, this was due to our party reserving the entire B&B. The B&B is very affordable and lovely, you are welcomed to take you own cocktails if you plan on drinking before dinner as the B&B does not have a liquor license. This is a road trip worth taking! read more

I had very high hopes about the dining experience I would enjoy at Joseph Decuis. My husband and I went there to celebrate our first anniversary. Upon arrival we were promptly seated and the waiter took our drink order. We ordered the wagyu tartare and seafood cocktail special. The tartare was a bit underwhelming in flavor, portion size and cost of $18. The seafood cocktail was very good. On to the entrees I ordered one of the specials of the evening, slow-braised chuck roast with cauliflower mash. The meat was very tender and tasty however the cauliflower was not a 'mash' at all, just small florets hiding under the beef. One of the reasons I did not order one of the main wagyu cuts available was the preparation just didn't appeal much to me. The accompaniments to other dishes on the menu just sounded more appealing. My husband had the wagyu strip approx. 5 oz. It was very tasty of course and pricey as one might expect. We had Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Cake for dessert. That was my favorite dish of the evening. I imagine if we were to return and tried the Chef's tasting during the week we might have a meal I would consider to be exceptional but that just wasn't the case this visit. Overall I suppose I was just a bit let down considering the rave reviews I have read about this restaurant. It was good but not great for the amount of money we spent on our meal. read more

We checked this place out while visiting my family in Indiana. It's by far the prettiest restaurant I've been to out there. The food is insanely fresh, and the dishes are well planned out. There is a huge wine selection and the martini list looks great. My appetizer was surprisingly spicy - so much so that I think it was a mistake. The waitress said it was ponzu, but I've never had ponzu that was spicy. It was a tomato ceviche that said nothing about heat in the description. The waitress also put in the wrong order for me - I asked for short ribs and I ended up with a fillet mignon. It was still really good, but it wasn't what I wanted. All in all, it was a delicious and elegant meal. The charcuterie appetizer was something truly different - house cured meats that were packed with flavor. Dessert was also really decadent and different. Warning: your GPS may fritz out trying to find this place, so bring a backup printout! read more

Well I finally made it to Joseph Decuis and it was everything I had hoped it would be. Stunning atmosphere, cool open kitchen concept. Wonderful food. The collard greens that came with my duck were honestly the best I have ever had anywhere. The Wagyu was on point, and they even carried Travellers Grapefruit Shandy, which shock the shit out of me. I noticed another Yelper was disappointed with there service here. I on the other hand was not. My service was first class. No this place is not cheap, but dammit it was worth every penny. read more

Very disappointed with this restaurant. My husband and I received a gift card for this establishment and decided to drive the two hours for the chef's tasting on a Friday evening. The chef's tasting is seven courses for $110 per person and while each course was good, I wouldn't say it was worth even a fraction of the cost. The service was great and all of the wait staff were very attentive to our needs. At the end of our meal the hostess asked if we had a few minutes to tour the property. She showed us around the house and grounds and gave details on each new spot. It was an elegant touch to end the evening. We start the two hour trek home and almost immediately our stomachs start to grumble. Assuming it's due to overeating, we shake it off until we get home and both of us proceed to get violently ill all night long. What are the chances we both get extremely ill at exactly the same time after both eating the exact same dish just hours beforehand? Anyway, morning hits and we still feel awful. We are not typically ones to call a restaurant and complain, but for that price point we thought it was fair. My husband called and left a message (as a side note, he was also trying to be kind and alert them that something that was served in the chef's tasting was obviously expired and to hopefully fix it before the next dinner) and received a call back a few hours later. The woman proceeded to imply that food poisoning does not take place that quickly and that she did not receive any other complaints about food poisoning from the previous evening's customers, so it could not have been from their establishment. She did not apologize for our discomfort nor ask if there was anything they could do to ensure we would be returning customers. We used a gift card for the meal so it's not as if we were calling for our money back, but to be told that we were lying was unacceptable. The food poisoning was 110% from their restaurant and their hostess was inconsiderate and beyond rude. We will never be back (paying or otherwise) and have told everyone we know not to bother. I would not waste your money at this pretentious restaurant. You can make better steaks on your grill. read more

I must say first that our food was fabulous - We had a Waygu Carbonnade, which was a beer braised chuck - kinda like the best pot roast in the world. The seafood gumbo was the best I've ever had. Coming from me, that says alot because I LOVE gumbo and get a cup whenever possible. The Shrimp and Grits appetizer was perfect - fresh, sweet and firm shrimp with creamy cheese grits. The reason I gave four stars rather than five was the inattentive service. Our server was helpful and pleasant but just never checked on us. There was a 45-minute wait from the time we finished our appetizers until our entrees came. No one ever stopped by to explain the delay or even check on us. Similarly, after the entrees finally arrived, no one checked to see if we needed anything or our orders were correct. Fortunately, the food was perfect so there was no issue (except for the delay). We will still make the two-hour drive to go back to this gem in Northern Indiana (yes, it's that good). read more

An amazing find in the middle of no-where Indiana! If you are looking for an amazing food experience in Northern Indiana, similar to what you can find in a big city, then you just need to head to the small town of Roanoke. This place offers fresh food that is seasoned and cooked to perfection. The service is excellent. The only reason it doesn't get five stars from me, is I wasn't a fan of the atmosphere. This might just be the room we sat in, as I hear they have an amazing patio. This is an extremely laid back atmosphere, where you will see people in jeans and t-shirts sitting at tables with white linens, waiters in tuxedos and elegantly prepared dishes. All in all I think this place could compete with some of the upscale restaurants I have been to in places like Chicago and Boston and hold its own. read more

I heard great things about this restaurant but was sorely disappointed with the service and the food (ramen was so salty). We waited for an hour to get our appetizer and another 40 minutes for our entrees. We hardy saw our server but we could see her entertain other guest really well. Really made us feel unwelcome. Regardless of who you are, service shouldn't be judging guests because we may look younger clientele and that should not ever happen because a paying customer deserves good service. Finally to top it off, when one of us got the ramen soup, it was inedible because it was extremely salty. I hope this never happen to anybody else, this is not a cheap place and I expected equal quality service! Only good comment I have is that the wagyu steak and apps were great. read more

I saw several articles about Joseph Decuis and planned our annual Superbowl trip around a visit there. Roanoke is a charming little town filled with antique shops. The Joseph Decuis Emporium stocks meats and wines and it is a good thing they were closed on Sunday after our dining experience as I am sure we would have spent a bunch of cash there. Since we drove 150 miles to go to the restaurant I made sure we had a reservation. We were promptly seated in the vault room. It was dark, quiet, clubby and comfortable. Dining was an unhurried affair. Our waitress/sommelier was accommodating and helpful. I asked for help with the wine selection. The list is extensive and 11 pages long. Wines range in price from $30 to $300. She was not put out by my request for a full-bodied red around $40 and we settled on a Chilean for $45. Good choice. Mom and I shared the Duck Liver Pate. It arrived on crispy bread with a cranberry and chocolate (Yes! Chocolate!) compote on top. There were 3 large pieces and it was incredible. We also shared the Steak Tartar. It had a chopped, coddled egg on top as well as pickled mushrooms. Also incredible. We could have happily completed dinner with a third appetizer but did have entrées. Flank Steak and Duck Breast were both sauced well. The steak came with green rice, which did not appeal to me, but Mom liked it. The duck came with an onion-potato mix. Excellent all around. We really did try to choose a dessert but just couldn't do it. Dinner with 1 cocktail and a bottle of wine came to $168 plus tip. Joseph Decuis was an outstanding experience and we plan to return on an annual basis. It's better than watching some stupid game. Unless the Bears are playing. read more

Possibly the finest (and as far as I know, the only five-star) restaurant in the region! They are a "Farm to Fork" restaurant ~ they raise their own Kobe beef, eggs, vegetable, and herbs on their own farm, as well as locally sourcing other meats. That is a win in my book. My husband and I went here on our anniversary several months ago. Made our reservations and mentioned it was our anniversary, and were pleasantly surprised when we got to our table to discover custom paper menus with our names and "Happy Anniversary" printed on them! The Artisinal Cheese Plate was a lovely starter. My chicken dish was outstanding, and my husband said that his salmon was the BEST he'd ever had in his life. We split the Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Cake for dessert ~ amazing! Their wine list is enormous! I tried one of the recommended red wines (now of course I don't remember what it was) and my husband had a bourbon cocktail. I'm not a fan of bourbon but I tried his drink and I have to say it was REALLY good. Service and staff were very friendly, attentive, and helpful. What a wonderful anniversary dinner! Unfortunately, Joseph Decuis will probably remain a special-occasion-only place for us, because it is QUITE pricey! read more

The service is friendly, but quite slow. From the time we sat down, it took half an hour to have our order taken, another half hour to get our appetizers, easily 45 minutes from then until the arrival of our entrees, and yet another half hour until dessert. The waitstaff was more or less invisible when they weren't actually bringing food to the table, resulting in quite a few empty glasses. The bread and appetizer (morels) were fantastic, as was dessert (creme brulee). The coffee was very good and obviously fresh, but served lukewarm. The entree (lobster carbonara) was disappointing. It was far too heavily seasoned, drowning out the lobster with red pepper and literally painful amounts of salt. The pasta was also severely undercooked - "al dente" does not mean chewy. (To be fair, I was the only one in my group to order this dish, and everyone else seemed to enjoy their food thoroughly.) Pleasant company and beautiful atmosphere made it a nice evening, but all in all I felt the restaurant didn't live up to its hype - or prices. read more

Visited Joseph Decuis Emporium while in town for a business meeting! I was told that it was the only 5 star restaurant in the area! We stopped in for a casual lunch. It was a great hamburger venue, and I loved the local foods like honey, bbq sauce, cheese and even ketchup that the store displayed for purchase! I love supporting local businesses! I ordered the Wagyu burger and it was awesome!! They boast burgers "grilled to perfection". Now, don't get it twisted - the cafe is not five star! You pick up your own food, and bus your own table, and get your own drinks! Definitely worth visiting and learning about Wagyu beef aka kobe beef and teh way that it is raised, right here in Indiana! read more

This is a very nice restaurant with an excellent reputation, but as a Yelper from way back I feel obligated to leave this two-star review, and here's why. We purchased a $150 gift certificate for my elderly parents to celebrate a wedding anniversary. At the time we weren't living in Fort Wayne, so I handled this transaction over the phone, and after some wrangling we got it all worked out. So we were very excited that they were finally going to go to the legendary Joseph Decuis. They had told us about this fabulous place nearby for a long time, but as Depression generation Americans they were simply too budget-conscious to pull the trigger on such a luxury. So we got the opportunity to do it for them. Awesome, right? Well, not so much. My father, with his adventurous palette, went for the raw oysters and the next day it hit. And when I say "it" most you probably know what I mean. Coming out both ends, etc. Turns out my father had come down with a norovirus, which are sometimes (rarely, but it happens) associated with raw oysters. This was a grueling run - we got the play-by-play via email and phone - especially for an elderly person, because noroviruses last longer than your typical, run-of-the-mill bout with food poisoning. And you wanna know the worst part? Perhaps not, but I feel compelled to tell you anyway... Noroviruses are contagious. They're like a cross between food poisoning and the flu, which meant my mother came down with it too! What is it they say, no good deed goes unpunished? Indeed. We felt terrible, obviously. Now, can any of us be absolutely one hundred percent certain that the norovirus in question had come from the oysters at Joseph Decuis? Not a hundred percent, obviously. Then again, a rash of cancers around a toxic waste site can't necessarily be proven either, but reasonable juries still draw obvious conclusions based on the evidence. Raw oysters are well known culprits in these fairly common viruses, the latency period was spot on, my parents hadn't eaten out anywhere else around the time that it happened, the familiar symptoms played out right on cue, and my father is a retired physician who experienced this firsthand, in all its gruesome glory, and he feels absolutely CERTAIN that the oysters from Joseph Decuis were the undeniable culprit. So if the shoe fits... Bottom line, I feel obligated to at least share this story with others who might be contemplating visiting this restaurant. I'm not saying you shouldn't go - just bare this experience in mind when you do, that's all. You might wanna think twice before ordering the shellfish. I won't leave a one star review, because they obviously did not intend for this to happen. I'm sure they take great pride in their restaurant, judging from the other reviews. But since it DID happen, unfortunately, two stars is somewhat magnanimous in my humble opinion. read more

My fiancé Liz and I visited for Valentine's weekend from a couple states away. We had one of the most memorable weekends ever! We stayed at The Inn bed and breakfast that is also the same owners as restaurant and farm. Everyone was so welcoming and accommodating from the second we got to town. This was a meal to behold. We each had the Chef's tasting 4 course. We started with the oyster ceviche that was fantastic. The fried tiger prawns were perfectly fried and the green tomato tartar with fresh dill was pleasant as well. The gumbo was rich and hearty. The salad was fresh as well as the dressing. The wagyu steak was of course rich and buttery as well as cooked to perfection! The scallops were seared just rite and melted like butter in your mouth! The cranberry cobbler was excellent and had a great crust. We had a nice bottle of wine as well. Our server Melody was friendly and attentive. She also gave us a tour of the place after our meal, which was a nice touch. I can't say enough about Chef Marcus and his whole team! He came out to check each table and made sure everyone was happy, of course we were! Chef does a dynamite job here as does the rest of his team! This is coming from both Liz and i, who are in the industry. Alice also gave us the great farm tour since we stayed at the bed and breakfast. It was very informative and she had some great stories. Seeing the wagyu cattle and mangalica pigs was nice as well. Jeana took good care of us at The Inn and The Emporium had the best wagyu burger of all time, so juicy! This was well worth the trip and we can't wait to come back. We are already planning another visit. We highly recommend Joseph Decuis and thank you to Alice, Chef, Jeana, and the entire team! Well Done! Omar and Liz read more

We ended up ordering a take out dinner for Valentines Day pretty much at the last minute. (Another restaurant lost our reservation ). Wish I had taken a picture of the take out package because it was beautiful! They provided everything we needed for dinner including a meat thermometer, cloth napkins, and silverware- with a very nice steak knife. This worked out perfectly as I wasn't excited about cooking from scratch. We just needed to heat everything up - and all the food came in reusable, high quality glass containers. The food was delicious - he even had seconds on the creamed spinach-which he typically hates. There was so much food we even had leftovers. Thank you for making our Valentine's Day special. read more

Anyone giving this place less than a 5 star rating is out of their mind. The wagyu strip steak was a level above any steak I have experienced in my life. People may complain about the cost but this is the only farm in the United States to be able to claim full blood wagyu. The meat melts in your mouth and bursts with flavor. You are paying for this quality and for the lack of availability of course. A wonderful once in awhile treat I will definitely come back for. read more

Went here with my dad and it did not disappoint! The staff was so friendly and helpful with the menu. I got the strawberry rhubarb margarita and it was absolutely delicious!! My dad got the gumbo for an appetizer and it was absolutely amazing. I got the beet salad and you could tell it was so fresh. For dinner we both got the ribeye and it cut like butter!! For dessert I got the earl grey creme brûlée and my dad got the limoncello and mocha ice cream. I think if I were to go back again, I would skip on dessert. I don't think the dessert lived up to the other two courses. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely go back for a special occasion! read more

OMG! I have eaten at Joseph Decuis a few times over the years, and recently my husband took me there for Valentine's Day. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. So fresh and wonderful! Even the garden salad was memorable (and I typically am not wowed by most salads.) They recently had their long time chef move on to start his own thing, which is fine, but I must say not to worry, the food is as good as ever!!! The bartender Shawn knows her stuff too and crafts things like barrel aged Negronis. Their wine cellar is superb as well. They never cease to amaze me. And when it comes to service, they are the best and so friendly :)! It is always a special (and healthy) event eating at Joseph Decuis. Pete and Alice do it up right! If you want a unique experience I highly reccomend. I like sitting down in the bar/lounge area best. read more

Hidden gem! Always a pleasant surprise with great food, great ambiance and amazing wine list for those who are selective.

We had a prix fixe dinner last week expecting a culinary experience featuring Wagyu beef. What we received was an overpriced array of vegetable dishes and a corn bread dessert surrounding, of all things, an over-smoked brisket on a pita bread. This for $100 per person! My son smoked a $10/lb Kroger brisket the day before which put any food this restaurant put in front of us to shame. The "Wagyu" beef was served with a sharp knife (probably the first hint of poor quality) which wouldn't even dent the pita it was served on. (We guessed that was inedible). Nothing about the experience hinted at "French" (well, maybe in Ft. Wayne this is as 'French' as it gets) and we unanimously agreed that this was the most expensive and disappointing prix fixe dinner any of us had ever experienced. We suspect that the owner is selling his 'good' Wagyu to other buyers and relegating the throw-away cuts for his restaurant to disguise as 'fancy meatloaf' and "Shawarma Brisket." If you want fresh, delicious healthy food, visit the Parker Grace Tea Room around the corner (lunch only), Their food puts Joseph Decuis' to shame. read more

Last night my wife, a friend, and I all tried JD for the first time. We drove about 2 hours from Indianapolis. The short version: the food was an absolutely delightful experience, although the service falls short when compared with the caliber of the food and décor. We will definitely go back. The long version: I called one week in advance and made the reservation for 7pm on Saturday. Since we arrived about 20 minutes early, we stopped at the JD Emporium and bought some wine. I asked the ladies at the emporium whether we could bring the wine next door and pay corkage, and while they were unsure they called next door to the restaurant to ask; the answer was "no", which was a little disappointing. When making the reservation a week prior, I told the polite young lady on the other end of the call that the three of us would order the chef's tasting menu. When we arrived at the restaurant, I told the hostess again that we all would have the tasting menu as she was taking us to the table. From there, it was at least 10-20 minutes before any wait staff approached us. We had just driven 2 hours and felt tired and very hungry, and my wife had a migraine starting in. (My wife thought it was 20 minutes, and I thought it was at least 10. The point is, when you're hungry and tired you do not like feeling ignored, and time seems to move along MUCH more slowly!) Finally, a female server approached. I was hoping she'd begin by explaining a little about the cuisine or tonight's menu or at least welcome us or acknowledge that we'd been ignored for longer than we should have been. Instead, we recievd an expressionless and dispassionate, "What do you want to drink?". I told her that we all wanted to the chef's menu and asked if she could tell us what was on the menu so that I could pick some wine from the wine list. Her response was something like, "I have no idea. Let me go find out". After I had told the restaurant twice that we wanted the chef's menu, the server's not knowing what was on the menu made me nervous and certainly did not inspire any confidence about the food to come. (The food ended up being pretty fantastic, but I was not expecting it at this point in the meal.) I ordered the wine pairing with my meal, which was an extra $30, and got way more than my money's worth. The servers pour what appears to be a complete 4.5-ounce glass of wine with each course (except for the dessert wine). By the end of the meal, I was a little tipsy from all that wine. I was expecting 2-ounce pours and would have been content with that. Here was the chef's tasting menu: First Course - garden tomato ceviche with white sardines, manchego, red onion, and greens with a vinaigrette. The flavors were harmonious and delicious together. The dressing had a dash of jalapeno that really sparked the flavor in the sardine and the cheese. Paired with a Hogue dry Riesling from Washington. Second Course - the foie gras (an extra $28 from the menu). Delicious, with a blueberry reduction sauce and served over something like glazed French toast. The problem was the temperature - mine was lukewarm. The second problem was the server thought we had only ordered one instead of two, so my friend's did not arrive for about 7-10 minutes later and after I had finished mine. He happily devoured it (and it was his first time trying foie gras) and said it was nice and hot. Also, the server did not ask if I wanted any wine with my foie gras, and I had none because I had finished all but a few drops of my Riesling from the first course. Foie gras is one of those rich foods that just BEGS for wine with it. I would have gladly paid for a Sauternes or a dessert wine, but she didn't offer anything either before or after bringing the gras out. Third Course - tempura squash blossom over a sand ball (sp?) aioli. This was the most interesting thing on the menu, but temperature was again a problem as mine came out hardly warm. Still, good balance with the fried veggie and spicy aioli. Fourth course - monkfish filet with spinach fettucine and morel mushrooms. The fish was hot, meaty, and tasty, and the morels were wonderful. Fifth course - sweetbreads with asparagus tips and morel mushrooms. This was good, although not my favorite of the night. I was thrilled to get more morels though. Paired perfectly with A to Z Pinot Noir. Sixth Course - Wagyu beef skirt steak. The beef was sublime. Seventh Course - dessert. It was some sort of rich caramel custard, paired with a 20-year Fonseca port. The bottom line, it felt like 5-star ambience and 5-star food being delivered by 2 or 3-star service. It pains me to give Joseph Decuis only 3 stars. This was not my first time at the restaurant but definitely my last. When spending a couple hundred dollars on a meal I expect exceptional service and top notch food and unfortunately that was not the case on this occasion. Our waitress was the caliber of a waitress that you may find a chain restaurant. She never shared her name and gave us about 2 seconds to look over the menu before asking what we wanted to drink. We barely had time to sit down. We were celebrating our anniversary, which they were aware of and kindly made us custom menus, and chose to sit in the dining area that is connected to the kitchen. It was supposed to be an intimate and quiet table. Apparently the kitchen was having a bad night because on several occasions the wait staff and the kitchen staff were arguing back and forth. At one point a waiter asked the head chef to split a bowl of soup for a table and he told them to tell the table that they don't do that. Really? We then ordered the morel mushroom appetizer and avocado soup, which the busboy brought to our table. Literally before I could even try the appetizer our waitress asked how the food was and clearly we hadn't even eaten it yet. The avocado soup was so-so but the morels were out of this world the best mushrooms I have ever had. For dinner we ordered the ribeye which is there locally raised Wagyu beef. I ordered a lobster and pasta dish that featured homemade pasta in a spicy sauce. It was recommended by our server. Another server delivered our meal to our table. My husband's ribeye was $55 and the portion was that of which a small child would be eating. Also a little too heavily seasoned with a cut of beef that fine it doesn't need to any seasonings in my opinion, but it was cooked to perfection. Now on to my dinner, the pasta was so chewy that it was beyond al dente. Then I had a large shell from the improperly cleaned and lobster claw that I bit into and could have damaged a tooth if I had bit harder. Also my lobster had hot and cold spots in the meal which led me to believe that the pasta had been reheated in the microwave. It then took about 15 minutes for our original waitress to come back to our table to check on our food at that time I let her know about the lobster shell. She offered to have the kitchen make a new one but I didn't feel like eating my meal by myself while my husband was almost done with his. Then the head waitress came to our table, who I thought was quite meak and unprofessional and offered a free dessert or drink with an apology about the lobster. Seriously, this is a five star restaurant in this is the best you can do? Again we've eaten here before and had a wonderful time but this night was just an off night. I try to keep my expectations in check based on the price point of a restaurant and therefore I expected perfection and didn't get, it not even close. My husband and I were so disappointed our experience that we left and didn't even consider dessert that night. read more

Our experience touring the farm, meeting the owner, the cafe, and the cuts we purchased was fantastic. Well worth a mini road trip to check out the wagyu! We gushed the whole way home. Next time, I would definitely like to stay a night in their bed and breakfast out in the country. The farm grounds are breathtaking and the perfect place to relax and enjoy a day away. read more

All I can say is wow! This is one of the best restaurants I've experienced. "Farm to fork" all fresh ingredients and the Wagyu filet...INCREDIBLE! The foie gras is sensational, best I've tasted. The wine list is not what you would expect in a small town....probably the best list in Indiana. Make the trip to this restaurant, it's worth it. read more

Fact: This is the best restaurant in the Fort Wayne area. My only grievance is that the menu does not seem to change that often. However, upon a recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they have finally added some new options. I would literally kill you for a platter of their new sliders. read more

I dined there recently for my birthday. I have to admit that it wasn't a mind blowing experience. Maybe my expectations were to high, but I had multiple people recommend Joseph Decuis. I was greeted and seated promptly. The hostess who sat us wished me a happy birthday. My menu was also printed with happy birthday. Our server was not overly attentive. I didn't notice that he didn't acknowledge my birthday but my husband did. It's took some time to receive our drink order. Our salads arrived before our crab cake appetizer. We went with the wagyu filet. It was good. It came with asparagus and a stacked potato side. We also ordered coffee and Lemon cake. Everything was good, but I wouldn't say exceptional. I would say for the price our experience was fair. A different hostess wished a happy birthday on the way out. Our dining experience was pleasant but somewhat lack luster. read more

My wife and I went up to Joseph Decuis just for some midweek fun. It was truly a breath of fresh air. The food and the ambiance was amazing. I highly recommend the charcuterie board. Nothing beats house cured meats! After that, we both had the tomato bisque with fresh goat cheese. Delicious and fresh. For entrees, I had seared duck breast over assorted vegetables and it was very tasty. My wife had a salmon with beets and she was equally as pleased. Thank you chef Butts and staff for an excellent evening. read more

Yes, It is my 23rd anniversary with my husband. Was told I was getting a menu with our names on it and all it said was '"happy anniversary". I was also told that they accommodate vegans and guess what? They don't. My order was very easy for them and they totally messed it up! I told them they could bring anything and they brought things that had eggs and dairy in them! Seriously!!!!! Wow! Super insensitive to my needs. They finally bought a vegetable medley that was just sad. I am so disappointed. read more
